HOUSE Returns Tonight…Here’s a Sneak Peek!
September 16, 2008 by Kath Skerry
The following post contains spoilers for tonight’s season premiere of HOUSE. Continue reading at your own risk.
That surly and self absorbed Doc that we know and love is back tonight as HOUSE kicks off Season 5 tonight at 8pm on Fox. With new patients come new cases but can House really worrying about a patient when he’s trying to save the only relationship that matters in his life? And no, I’m not talking about his love affair with Vicodin.
Previously on HOUSE…
After a massive bus accident left House without recollection of four hours prior to the accident, he and the team slowly put the pieces of his memory together and discovered Wilson’s girlfriend Amber was on the bus with him and was critically injured in the accident. As House and the team race to figure out how to save Amber’s life, it became morbidly apparent they could do nothing to stop the progression of her injuries and Wilson had to face the shocking realization that House was directly involved in Amber’s death, resulting in the destruction of their friendship.
“Dying Changes Everything”…
When Season 5 returns tonight, a few months have passed since Amber’s death but Wilson and House haven’t had much contact. House says he’s giving him room to grieve, but it’s really more about Wilson choosing not to reach out to his former best friend. When Wilson returns to Princeton-Plainsboro and announces he’s resigning, House isn’t exactly pleased. House, always the people person, tries to convince Wilson to stay by calling him a fool, and telling him that his pain is a cliche – clearly he’s not one with words. Wilson really isn’t interested in much of what House has to say these days. And as we all know House isn’t one to be ignored, so when he resorts to drastic measures to get Wilson’s attention, including putting patients lives at risk, things get even more heated between the two men.
[The following clips are from tonight’s episode and therefore contain spoilers…duh]
Not wanting to lose Wilson, Cuddy intervenes and tries to play couples counselor forcing the two men in a room to talk. But Wilson isn’t having it. He doesn’t blame House for Amber’s death, but he does blame himself for being friends with House in the first place – if they were even friends.
Tonight’s case is interesting enough with a business women whose hallucinations lead to a medical mystery. I guess there’s nothing new there. But with all of House’s attention going to Wilson, it’s up to Thirteen, Taub and Kutner to figure out just what is killing this patient. Oh and don’t even try to figure out what’s going on with the patient – it’s not lupus, it’s not cancer – but no pieces of the puzzle will turn you into the brilliant Dr. House tonight.
Great episode – but aren’t they all? The patient comes second to House tonight, and the patient will come second to the viewer. You’ll be so caught up in the deteriorating bromance of House and Wilson that you’ll care about little else. Keep the tissue handy because Wilson’s pain and despair is so palpable that you just might find yourself getting a little teary.
I was hoping that maybe this would be the season that I would find something, anyting redeeming about Cuddy. But two episodes in (yup, I’ve already seen next week’s ep and it’s fantastic) and I still just don’t like her. Would it kill her to act professional just one day in her life? She just irks me. Her obsession with House makes her look foolish and I just have no respect for her. [/ends Cuddy rant]
