CALIFORNICATION Recap: “Slip of the Tongue

 Talk about starting of on the wrong foot! Hank Moody and the gang returned last nightfor Californication’s sophomore year. The season opener started off with Hank’s new lifestyle in full swing; apparently he’s trying to keep the lady happy! And what better way to enter the mature realm of coupledom then by kicking things off with a vasectomy and a nicotine patch! Yes, Hank is irresistible to the ladies even while having his vas deferens sliced off! While on the table Hank manages to get hit on by the nurse.Of course.

After the minor surgery goes off without a hitch Moody and Karen end up heading back home where they end up interrupting Becca’s rock out session on Guitar Hero. The family gets into what is said to be the 73rd squabble of the week about Hank’s insistence that they “get out of dodge”. Hank wants to move the family back to New York while Karen seems to side with Becca, who wants to stay in L.A. The argument ends with doors slamming and Hank wishing he had a cigarette while holding an ice tray to his manhood. Poor Guy!

After Hank takes off to the store to get frozen veggies to ease the pain, the true test of his commitment seems to come in the form of a wild brunette, surfer girl! Hank manages to keep his cool and his stitches in place while the thieving, bikini stoner attempts to entice Moody into a romp while sucking on her patriotic Popsicle. No dice! Hank ends up leaving alone after arguing with a complete stranger who has a prolapsed rectum! Maybe Moody doesn’t have it so bad after all! Then comes what promises to be a great season for Madeline Martin’s character, Becca. Not only has their dear little daughter expanded her vocabulary she’s also taking off to pool parties at the now lonely Mia’s!

At this point Californication feels like a shadow of its former self. Where’s the Moody we know and love?! He’s actually behaving! Then finally all seems to hit the fan after the self indulgent writer and Karen join up for drinks with the crazy Runkle’s! Back to his crass self, Moody manages to run into the naked scientologist that got kicked to the curb by her gay now ex-hubby! The couples all seem to play well together even with Hank’s reference’s to sleeping with the both of them! What a gentleman!

Invited to a party up in the canyon everyone decides to go, with a little hesitation on Hank’s end! At the start of the party Hank ends up chasing after a stoned Karen who is freely mingling amongst the crowd. The two end up in a bedroom with no one around while Karen tries to coherse Hank into a little fun! Hank suddenly needs a moment of privacy to double check a possible popped stitch!

When Moody returns to the bathroom he ends up in the wrong bedroom with the lights out! Then comes TV history in the making. Hank services a women who isn’t Karen! Sounds like a horrible excuse for cheating bastard right? But it’s true Hank had no idea and on the way home tells Karen he could pick her anatomy out of a police line up! What a way to warm the heart!

After the “wrongly serviced” episode a huge fight ensues. To top the matters of Moody gets pulled over by Officer Dick! Of course in Hank’s normal fashion a barrage of insults come whirling out of his mouth upon hearing the officer’s name. How could he pass up the opportunity? All the while Karen’s anger seems to take control, throwing common sense out the window. She begins making comments about Hank’s drinking and his accidental mouth dive at the party!

In the end Hank and Officer Dick end up in a scuffle with some bad results for Hank and his boys! Don’t forget to watch Californication at its best next Sunday with Moody making new friends in the clink!
