“It’s Always Sunny” Scribes Land Fox Pilot…YES!!!
October 28, 2008 by Kath Skerry
There’s not much news that can get me to smile at 6:10am on a Tuesday morning. But I just woke up and checked my email only to find in my inbox a note from my friend Sonny with the news that he and his writing partner, Patrick Walsh, have just sold a new comedy pilot to Fox. Yes!!
Patrick and Sonny are currently writers on IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA. In fact, you’re going to be hearing a bit more from Sonny and Patrick soon right here on GMMR as our “It’s Always Sunny” recapper, Philiana, recently met up with the guys in L.A.
But back to the pilot.
According to Variety, “Broke Friends” centers on an innocent Midwestern kid who relocates to New York, where he moves in with two scam artists.
“It’s an ensemble comedy about which road you take in life — the long, hard-working grind to the top, or the hedonistic joyride at the bottom.”
“Broke Friends,” came to Fox after a competitive bidding situation with NBC. Patrick Walsh and Sonny Lee (“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”) are writing, while Luke Greenfield will direct and exec produce.
Um, Sonny…a bidding war? And just to think it wasn’t long ago that you were just packing up, moving to L.A. and discussing TV tunes over at Silly Pipe Dreams.
Guess it wasn’t silly or a pipe dream after all.
Drinks on me when I’m in L.A next month…or actually on you – hot shot TV pilot writer guy.
