CALIFORNICATION: Vaginatown

Another great episode of Californication last night! The episode, Vaginatown, was a mixed collection of sad, funny and insanely strange! From Hank’s encounter with a crazy celebrity chef, played by former Dawson Creek’s star Meredith Monroe, to Runkle’s investment in a porn film you just can’t help but stare like you’re watching a train wreck!
The new episode opened with Hank back in his bachelor funk complete with dreams of his once happy family. Our favorite writer is staying at Lew’s pad which can only be a recipe for disaster.
After waking with a massive hangover (on a Tuesday morning?!) Hank and Lew are seen enjoying a somewhat domestic moment in the kitchen. Lew is making breakfast with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth while watching the famous Chloe Metz on the cooking channel. He has already made a fresh pitcher of orange juice and vodka! Hank, still half asleep, looks more interested in Chloe than the food.
With a confused, uncertainty Hank expresses his hostile desire for the overzealous cooking guru. Still heartbroken over Karen, Lew decides that a sex session with the TV chef is just what Hank needs to forget the old lady!
“It’s Always Sunny” Scribes Land Fox Pilot…YES!!!

There’s not much news that can get me to smile at 6:10am on a Tuesday morning. But I just woke up and checked my email only to find in my inbox a note from my friend Sonny with the news that he and his writing partner, Patrick Walsh, have just sold a new comedy pilot to Fox. Yes!!
Patrick and Sonny are currently writers on IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA. In fact, you’re going to be hearing a bit more from Sonny and Patrick soon right here on GMMR as our “It’s Always Sunny” recapper, Philiana, recently met up with the guys in L.A.
But back to the pilot.
According to Variety, “Broke Friends” centers on an innocent Midwestern kid who relocates to New York, where he moves in with two scam artists.
“It’s an ensemble comedy about which road you take in life — the long, hard-working grind to the top, or the hedonistic joyride at the bottom.”
“Broke Friends,” came to Fox after a competitive bidding situation with NBC. Patrick Walsh and Sonny Lee (“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”) are writing, while Luke Greenfield will direct and exec produce.
Um, Sonny…a bidding war? And just to think it wasn’t long ago that you were just packing up, moving to L.A. and discussing TV tunes over at Silly Pipe Dreams.
Guess it wasn’t silly or a pipe dream after all.
Drinks on me when I’m in L.A next month…or actually on you – hot shot TV pilot writer guy.
GOSSIP GIRL’s School Yard Fashion

Clearly there are other things that I should be thinking and blogging about, but I’ve got a GOSSIP GIRL question that I’m hoping someone can answer. It’s been plaguing me for some time now. What’s the deal with the school uniforms? It seems to vary from episode-to-episode as to whether or not the kids are wearing the proper school attire. And I use the word “proper” somewhat ironically as there is nothing proper about the length of Serena’s school uniform skirt. I’m not saying she doesn’t look hot, but come on now.
But all school girl fantasies aside…aren’t school uniforms usually a mandatory thing? Doesn’t everyone have to wear them? Isn’t that the point? Why do some, like Dan and Nate, always seem to be in the school garb while others like Blair and Chuck wear whatever they like?
And since I’m asking, what’s the deal with multiple uniforms for the same school? By its very definition, shouldn’t a uniform be uniformed?
I like to think that perhaps Blair, Chuck and others have earned enough Pirate Points to get out of wearing the uniforms. Then again I also like to bring everything back to “Veronica Mars” (RIP) so there’s that.
Thoughts on the school uniform policy?

I get a lot of press releases throughout the day. Most get sent directly to the trash file, others I take note of for future posts, but today I got a press release that had me stand up and shout “Hell Yeah!”. Of course I then preceded to read the entire release and was brought down to Earth, but still….
Will Arnett and Neil Patrick Harris are teaming up together on a new project! Awesome right? Yup! Are you excited? Of course you are!
But here’s the part where I tell you that the twosome will be voice the main characters for a new video game. Wah, wah.
Hey I’ll take what I can get.

I have my own blog…and that’s all the reason I need to post this smokin’ hot picture of Taylor Kitsch.
Don’t get carried away. I’m still holding firm to my policy of no FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS talk until the show airs on NBC. So no FNL spoilers…despite how kickass this season has been.
What to Watch…Monday, October 27, 2008

Listen up – Fox has baseball tonight and CBS has a full night of reruns. That means that your schedule should be free enough to watch CHUCK at 8pm on NBC and then turn on the DVR and watch the episode of GOSSIP GIRL that you recorded while you were watching CHUCK. Thanks to Fox and CBS for making it that easy.
“Hey brother.” Tonight is a big night for ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT fans as Tony Hale (aka Buster Bluth) is guesting on both CHUCK and SAMANTHA WHO?. I knew both these guest spots were coming, but I didn’t think they would be on the same night. “And that’s why you don’t use a one-armed person to scare someone!”
One last thing… As I mentioned on Friday, we are doing the prep work necessary for the upcoming relaunch of GiveMeMyRemote.com. Since the backend upgrade on Friday the site has been noticeably slower. We are aware of it and working on it. I do apologize. Things will be back to normal soon. I promise.
Ok, now on to the shows…
Chuck | 8pm on NBC
Life in espionage takes its toll on Chuck, and he is forced to try to explain his unusual behavior to the Buy More efficiency expert (Tony Hale); a global terrorist comes looking for Jeff. [GMMR: I’m not sure if I could be any more excited to see Tony Hale guest on CHUCK tonight. It’s finally here! Oh and P.S. – CHUCK has been hurting in the ratings, so do me a favor and tune in already!!! ]
Gossip Girl | 8pm on The CW
Jenny makes friends with a model (Willa Holland) who encourages her to confront Eleanor Waldorf, who has been trying to “borrow” Jenny’s designs; Serena meets an artist and realizes they have instant chemistry; Blair tries to seduce Chuck. [GMMR: Fans of THE O.C. know Willa Holland as the devilish but good intentioned Caitlin Cooper. Willa is sassy so I can’t imagine she’s going to be a good influence on Little J. ]
Heroes | 9pm on NBC
Nathan and Tracy try to free themselves, Maya, and Suresh’s other test subjects; Elle returns with a surprise for Claire and her family; Angela tries to convince Sylar to save Peter.
One Tree Hill | 9pm on The CW
Lucas’ novel receives surprising interest; Jamie finds Sam and her rebelliousness charming; Nathan’s basketball comeback gains momentum.
Samantha Who? | 9:30pm on ABC
When Dr. Andy (Tony Hale) gives Samantha pills as part of a clinical trial to help people with memory loss, she regains memory fragments that remind her how bad she used to be. [GMMR: Whoa whoa whoa…Tony Hale again?]
My Own Worst Enemy | 10pm on NBC
Edward must go to Mexico and get schematics of Russia’s next-generation nuclear bomb; Tom’s wife becomes suspicious of his many business trips and hires a private investigator
Boston Legal | 1opm on ABC
Alan and Denny take a break from the office and go to a dude ranch in Utah; Shirley defends Catherine Piper (Betty White) after she sets her doctor’s office on fire for prescribing medication that almost killed her.
What will YOU be watching?

My favorite type of episode starts off at a point late in the episode’s action and flashbacks back to cover what we missed. The buildup is compelling because you want to know how the characters got to that point and the resolution is usually much quicker and satisfactory. Some of my favorite episodes of Lost and The O.C. are formatted this way. This episode of Desperate Housewives was no exception. Not only were we finding out how the characters arrived at their individual conflicts at Mrs. McCluskey’s surprise party, we also find out bits and pieces of what happened to them over the past five years.

Kevin has an awkward outing with Scotty’s conservative and disapproving parents and Justin and Rebecca’s relationship changes dramatically.
Let’s jump right on in……Rebecca shows Justin the file she found in Holly’s office on Ryan. He wants to tell Nora and she pleads to give her mom a chance to explain or come clean. Justin can’t understand why she wants to but reluctantly agrees. When Tommy bails on Holly for a winery tour Rebecca volunteers to come along as a second opinion, but we all know what her motive is.
DEXTER: Turning Biminese

Wow. I can’t even come up with a funny line to start this review of what was, I believe, the best episode of Dexter in recent memory. Let’s get started before my head explodes all over the keyboard amidst the amazingness.
This episode seemed to be an awesome hybrid of what the show used to be, format-wise, and what it’s been the past few episodes. We picked up on all of the storylines we had from last week, but also focused on a new kill for Dexter, courtesy of our favorite Miami ADA.
Prado gives Dexter the name of a black widower, a man who has killed both of his wives for the insurance money. I’ve loved where this season has gone, but it was awesome to see Dexter in killing mode again: the research, the preparation, the talking with the target before he kills them, the buildup to the kill. I hope that, now with the developments that have occurred, we’ll get to some more of that.
THE AMAZING RACE Needs to Be a Little More Amazing

I’ve been watching THE AMAZING RACE since its second season and I’m most definitely on the record as saying it’s one of my favorite reality shows. But while this season started off strong, the past few weeks have lacked the excitement and drama we’ve come to expect from THE AMAZING RACE.
I blame the editors.
Can’t you throw us a bone with your fancy shmancy editing tools and make us at least think that there is a chance that the last place team can catch up? If not, then what’s the point in watching all the way to the end?
Jim & Pam’s Engagement…What If (Updated)

Filed under Jenna Fischer, Jim Halpert, John Krasinski, Pam Beesly, The Office
Here’s an interesting YouTube assignment for those of you who possess the talent for those nifty fanvids. Can you create Jim & Pam’s engagement scene per Greg Daniel’s original vision?
In a story from today’s Washington Post, Daniels spoke of the original plan for the scene during which the viewers at home would not hear those fateful words, “Pam, will you marry me?”, but rather just see the scene play out from across the faux-Merritt Parkway.
“One of the things that we decided at the last minute was to leave the sound in; we also had one version where it’s the exact same visuals, but you weren’t able to hear their dialogue. And that’s a very poetic way of doing it. The staff was completely divided down the middle, and I lost sleep over which way to go on that.
Ultimately, I felt that Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski had done this work, and their performances deserved to be seen. It was kind of artier to remove their voices, but I felt like after this length of time, you deserve to see what was going on and hear it.”
I for one am glad that the decision was made to let the fans experience that scene. Jim and Pam earned it. John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer earned it. We the fans earned it.
But still, assuming this alternative scene doesn’t end up on the Season 5 DVD, I wonder how it would have played out. Just the sound of the rain, the passing by cars and Jim down on his knees (that’s what she said) – sorry I couldn’t hep myself (that’s what….)
In case you want to see it yet again…

Joss Whedon Blogs About DOLLHOUSE Rumors
October 26, 2008 by Kath Skerry

Have you heard about the absolute mess over at the set of Fox’s midseason show, DOLLHOUSE? The set has been shut down, the network hates it, and show creator Joss Whedon is ready to walk because the show he pitched is nothing like the show that is being shot.
All these rumors are true…except for the ones that are not.
How I love the internet or morning like these.
Joss Whedon took directly to the Web to talk to the fans and tell them the real truth behind what’s going on at DOLLHOUSE. It’s not nearly as tragic as some would want you to believe.
Here’s a little excerpt of what Joss had to say:
“What Happened When the Lights Went Out”
I thought it was time to check in with you once again, gentle viewers. Or readers. Or pictures-looker-ats (that might be viewers). Also listeners, sniffers, haberdashers, Olympic hopefuls, the elderly, the youngerdly, and the mighty state of Oregon (go Oregon-based sports franchise!) Welcome all. Welcome… to me.
What’s me up to? I’m glad me asked. Me’ve (I’m not doing that any more) been working on a little show called Dollhouse. Yes, perhaps you’ve read about how it’s blazing an untrammeled path to surefire success, with nary a hitch or a hiccup, just pure blazing blazery, comet-like and meteoresque. What’s that, you say? You’ve read other things? Dark, Yog-Sothothy rumors about shutdowns and delays? Poppycock! They’re true. But I never pass up a chance to say “poppycock”. (“Balderdash” is so ’07. Let it go.) I know there’s been a lot of concern, various fabulous hues of panic alert readiness. So here’s the skinny. Some of the names have been changed.

MAD MEN Skit on SNL

The MAD MEN skit on this week’s SNL would have been fantastic enough on its own, but then they went and added Kristin Wiig and Jason Sudekis as ‘the Two A-Holes visiting an ad agency in the 1960’s’.
You either love or loathe the two a-holes bit. I fall firmly in the camp of YAY!
Extra kudos to Elisabeth Moss and John Slattery for their cameos!
