CALIFORNICATION: Coke Dick & First Kick

Hey GMMR readers it’s Sarah back with a little review of last night’s Californication. What an episode?! Runkle made his major movie debut in Vaginatown! Moody felt his maybe baby kick for the first time!

The episode, Coke Dick & First Kick, opens with Hank scoping out the home of Lew Ashby’s long lost love and former wife, and not like Mulder would have! He’s going through the mail box, snooping around. At this point who cares if he gets labeled a stalker! It can’t get any worse than being a mouth rapist and just the fact that he’s working is great. In the last couple of episodes he’s been just sleeping around and drinking. The wallowing over Karen seems to be less extreme this time around. Maybe Chloe knocked it out of him? Or maybe his upcoming jump back into fatherhood has him preoccupied? Let’s face it Becca resembles more of a father to both her parents than Moody has. Unsuccessful at getting the 411 about Lew’s lady Hank moves on after a very funny run in with a bush and the new husband!

In this episode we finally get to see Hank and Runkle back to a moment of male bonding. When was the last time they hung out? Maybe the crazy coke and lobster binge Runkle and Marcy had.

Runkle discusses his porno nest egg while Hank laughs on and talks about his total dislike for Julian.

After returning back to his new home Hank’s feeling about the “Inner Artist”, Julian, are confirmed when he discovers him getting busy with a girl who certainly is not Sonya. Apparently Lew’s pad is the place to hook up, as well as Runkle’s. The new porno investor has to set up shop at his house since the location fell through! How else is he going to make his money back?

Another issue that arises for the Runkle’s is Marcy’s increasingly bad addiction to coke. The women just can’t seem to get enough. She’s bagging out of the office early to watch Oprah and get high, and now she’s getting her fix alongside the lead male from Vaginatown! The two are constantly making terrible decisions. Runkle is always the first to start the fire but Marcy’s contribution usually blows him out of the water! These two are definitely in for some financial trouble between the porno and the coke as well as Daisy’s little crush on Runkle. Does anyone see this connection? There’s something there! Daddy issues anyone?!

Back to the Hank and Karen saga. These two aren’t lucky at all. Hank could normally make Karen laugh. Now she’s angry and annoyed! Hank’s charm just isn’t cutting it! After Hank runs over there to show off the new proof he has on Julian and his infidelity Karen just doesn’t care and thinks Hank is a huge hypocrite. She thinks he should mind his own business when it comes to people and their possible open relationships! A mouth rapist who pays for sex?! I can see her point. But somehow with Hank and all his crazy immoral antics an open relationship in his eyes is not cool! Isn’t that always the way. Moody does some crazy things and then seems to soften the blow with a little sweet romanticism and his strong belief in monogamy!

After leaving to pick up Becca, yes he finally got the day right, our favorite novelist runs into Lew’s former wife who denies everything and anything but a mustang. This little lady isn’t falling for the likes of Hank and his charm; she’s already had her fair share with Lew and his rock star ways. Then comes Hank’s talk with Sonya who clears up the whole deal between her and Julian. The two do share an open relationship and Sonya doesn’t come off too happy about the arrangement. She believes this is her last chance for happiness and will take what she can get.

Sonya and Hank easily get along, even with Hank’s strong opinions thrown in the mix. Are these two going to hook up again? Hank finally gets to feel the baby kick right before Karen enters the room. What a strange and uncomfortable situation. Karen, obviously angry and hurt, grabs Becca and hits the road. A reunion between Hank and Karen won’t be happening for quite a while!

Back to monogamy, how weird was the Daisy and Runkle porn hook-up? Runkle has to step in for a little one minute wonder shot and his wife, the fluffer, watches it all! How much coke did she do? I understand the nest egg issue and making it back but wow! And well all this is going on we get our usual dose of a one night stand for Hank. This time it’s a Rolling Stones reporter who has been following our new little book thief, Mia.

After retreating from his room Hank runs into Lew in the hall, who also has a lady friend over. And that lady friend is none other than Mia! Hank doesn’t like this one bit and I’m guessing Lew and Hank’s relationship is going to have huge problems!
