THE OFFICE: Customer Survey
November 7, 2008 by Kath Skerry
Forget about Jim & Pam, I’m now officially in the camp of Dwight & Jim. The power couple of THE OFFICE proved that while compelling apart, they are at their best when they are together.
I laughed my ass of last night during an episode that was tight and well managed. I know that seems a rather bland commentary on my favorite show, but I think it’s true. Last night’s episode felt like a well-oiled machine and I enjoyed every last bit of it.
Let’s just jump in to the best bits from last night, because I’m pretty sure if you are reading this you don’t need a recap. If you haven’t yet watched, stop reading and jump on over to Hulu to watch. I don’t mind…just come back and share your thoughts.
Before we go much further, may I offer a few of you a hand and help you take a few steps back from the ledge. Listen, Jim and Pam will be fine. Yes, it was a pretty heavy scene when Jim overheard Pam’s friend (who wants so much more) tell her she needed to be in NYC and not in Scranton, but we all knew it was coming. Come on you had to know that this would be explored. And while I think we just got the foundation for Jim and Pam’s storyline when the show does eventually end, I don’t think Pam is going anywhere but Scranton…and hopefully soon. Don’t worry…our kids will be fine.
Keeping of the subject of the future Mr. & Mrs. Halpert. I think the world’s tiniest Bluetooth was hysterical! The way Jim used the device not only to keep in touch with Pam but also to torture Dwight was great. And coming from someone who has been missing Pam, it was nice to have her somewhat back in the office. Of course the greatest Bluetooth moment had to be one of the cutest scenes ever…Pam’s “that’s what she said”.
Check it out.
But tonight’s episode for me was all about one scene. A classic Jim and Dwight faceoff in the conference room. I was IMing with “Jim Mosby” as the time and we both were wondering just how long it must have taken for Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson and John Krasinski to get through that scene. If you look at Rainn’s face you can see him breaking a bit. So funny. I think the part that I loved the best was Michael coaching Dwight like it was a real call, and then seriously contemplating firing him…for fake dollars from a fake client. Perfection!!!
You know I love me some Kelly Kapoor and I think it was so in character that Kelly would sabotage Jim and Dwight because they missed her “America’s Got Talent” season finale party. One of these days I’m going to save up enough money to go visit Kelly Kapoor on her home planet. I bet it would be a blast!
And finally, a little more drama if you will. Nope, I’m done talking about Jim and Pam. I’m talking about the inevitable drama that’s going to come from Angela and Andy holding their wedding on Schrute Farms. Why oh why isn’t Schrute Farms real? How I would love to spend a long weekend there. Angela is playing a sick and demented game of chicken. Let’s just call this one what it it – a storyline set-up that allows Dwight to stand up and object to the wedding at the last possible moment. I mean, that’s why Angela is insisting the wedding be there, right?
My Favorite Lines…
- Darryl: I’m not a big believer in therapy but, I’ll go into my own pocket to cover his co-pay.
- Michael: Sort of a Kapoor’s List. Schindler’s List parody. That’s not appropriate.
- Michael: “Jim Halpert is smudge and arrogant.”
- Jim: Micro-gement.
- Kelly: Dwight, get out of my nook!
Pam: That’s what she said! That’s what she said! That’s what she said! - Dwight: This wedding is officially out of your hands.
Much, much more to discuss from last night, but I can’t talk about THE OFFICE when I have to get back to my own office. If you’d like to reach me today, please don’t bother to email me…from now on I communicate only via Bluetooth.
Chime in (NBC plug) with your favorite bits and moments from last night’s episode. On the whole did it work for you? how did it rank against the other episodes this season?

Thank you. I was only half watching last night, and your review gave me a reason to go back and reevaluate. Plus: Kelly the grudge holder. I love Kelly.
This was one of my favourite Office episodes EVER! It had everything I love about the Office: sweet Jim & Pam stuff, pranks between Dwight & Jim, teamwork between Dwight & Jim!, Kelly storyline, conference room scene, hope for Dwight and Angela, and tons of jokes in between. I thought it was sweet, and funny, and fast-paced. Loved the conference room scene probably the most – Michael getting all caught up in the role-playing – of course he would! It was so nice to have Pam throughout an entire episode – almost as good as having her back. Which she will be. Of course she will be. Right? Right?!!!
Pretty awesome episode, but i’m still pretty annoyed about Pam being in NYC.
Thanks for the shout out 🙂

Hey all –
I am SO sorry, but it seems some comments were lost yesterday during a back-up of GMMR. I promise they were NOT deleted on purpose. Feel free to comment again if you’d like.
99% of the time I love The Office, even if it takes a few viewings for me to appreciate the subtle beauty and humor. But Customer Survey had me laughing out loud like I haven’t done in awhile, and it was awesome! Great episode. I could watch Jim & Dwight’s fake sales call training over and over and I still laugh every time!
I loved this episode. It was definitely one of my favorites so far this season. Jim and Dwight were so funny! And I’m very excited to see how Andy and Angela having their wedding at Shrute farms turns out. Overall a very wonderful and hilarious episode.
I miss Pam 🙁 I’m so excited about the whole bluetooth scenario, I thought that was hilarious, and it seemed like she was back, though not physically.
P.S. Sales Call: BEST part of the episode!
I loved this episode right up until Michael confronted Kelly in his office and one of her excuses for lying on the surveys was her claiming “I was raped.” And then Michael calmly told her she already has used that excuse before. I was extremely put off by that one moment and it made me hate Kelly and Michael for putting up with that kind of behavior. Because any one who would joke about something as serious as that to try and get out of trouble is not a person who should hold a position in any office. Michael not firing her for her insubordination was bad enough, this just topped it. I know it is just a TV show but that is not something that should be joked about.
I agree with Amanda. I thought the joke was inappropriate and offensive. And honestly, the writing staff is smarter than that, they shouldn’t have to resort to jokes like that. I’m surprised it was allowed on air (not to mention through the various drafts). While you can imagine it is something that Kelly would have tried, it’s not something that should made light of.
I think a lot of people missed the ‘meaning’ behind the rape joke. Please, there are A LOT more rape jokes out there on TV that are WAY more offensive.
Loved it – loved every minute! And I am always so glad to see that my favorite parts are shared amung those who appreciate the Office and all of the finer parts of it… the sales call will go down in history!
Mosby! How the heck are you!? Do you remember me? (From OH, used to chat after Veronica Mars and various other shows…) Are you still in NE Ohio? I miss the GMMR chat…
I miss the GMMR chat too!
Anyway, just wanted to pop in and say that was a fantastic episode. This season just keeps getting better. Loved the Jim and Dwight stuff, and also the Jim and Pam bluetooth bit. This episode had me laughing out loud and I’ve soooo missed that. Darryl saying he’d be willing to contribute towards Michael’s therapy cracked me up.
Kevin – If you knew anyone who has been raped you would have never made so callous a comment. Rape is not a joke. That is my point.
I saw Stephen Merchant directed this episode. That could help to explain its awesomeness.
