THE OFFICE: Business Trip

November 14, 2008 by

I hate when I have crazy Fridays and I don’t have time to properly talk about THE OFFICE.  But such is the case today.  Sorry. Although I suppose today is as good a day as any not to talk about THE OFFICE in depth since last night’s ep wasn’t one of my favorites.

Whether or not you agree with me on last night’s show, I think true die hard OFFICE fans (or fans of any show for that matter) can agree that although a particular ep didn’t really hit home you can still really enjoy it. Right?  That was the case for me last night.  I didn’t find the episode particularly funny.  I’m sure I laughed but I can’t remember when (feel free to refresh my memory on some of the funny parts). It certainly didn’t have great moments like last week’s episode.  But I didn’t hate it.

I’m invested in the show enough and in the characters enough that I can appreciate and enjoy an episode which is more focused on character development than the funny.  I thought the Jim and Pam scenes were cute.  I enjoyed the Kelly and Ryan follies (until the end at least).  And I loved drunk Oscar and drunk Andy.  Hell, my heart strings were even pulled when Michael was ripping David Wallace a new one. But I missed the funny.

Give the choice I would take a laugh out loud funny episode of THE OFFICE over a plot driven ep any day.  I felt last night they missed the boat on making me laugh.  Half way through the episode I was waiting for it to be over so I could turn on 30 ROCK and just smile.

So that’s that.  My quick and dirty take on THE OFFICE.  What did YOU think of last night’s episode.  Feel free to remind me of the funny.

Going Shopping at the Buy More…Got Questions for CHUCK?

I need to get some extra drum sticks for Rock Band, some toner for my printer as well as a new case for my iPhone.  I’m going to head over to the Buy More this afternoon to grab this stuff.  Can I get anything for you while I’m there? Perhaps Chuck Bartowski? Done.

This afternoon I’m heading back over to the Warner Bros lot to visit the set of CHUCK. I don’t have the call sheet so I don’t know who is filming what while I’m there, but I can pretty much count on seeing at least Mr. Zachary Levi.

I know we have some big time CHUCK fans here at GMMR, so if you have any questions for Zachary or anyone from the cast, leave them here and I’ll do my best to get them answered.  There’s not a lot of time, so leave your question before 1:45pm EST/10:45 am PST.

Here’s something I might just have to ask the boys about..

In other CHUCK news…my apologies to CHUCK fans for not posting this week’s review in a timely matter.  It’s up for you to discuss (better late than never) here: Chuck vs. the Ex (sorry SB).

And while we are chatting, let me just say that I’ve seen the next two CHUCK episodes and they are damn good.  Some funny stuff, some heartbreaking stuff, and some half naked Zachary Levi and Yvonne Strahovski stuff.  Yup…I wouldn’t kid abou such a thing.  And because I know you will ask…no, no Captain Awesome half-naked stuff.

Ok, so yeah…send in your question and wish me luck!!

Attention All Never-Nudes: Get Your Hopes Up For Arrested Movie!!

Wow – what a fun, sexy time for Arrested fans: Collider.com is reporting, with back up rock solid evidence, that the long anticipated Arrested Development movie is finally happening!

For months us AD fans have been gathering scraps of news of the movie, only to be disappointed by counter reports that it was dead in the water. Recently we heard that the movie was a no-go because Michael Cera, who played George Michael Bluth on the show, was too much of a big-shot movie star (Superbad, Juno, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist) to take time to revisit the past.

Well, it looks like the scheduling gods have shifted some things around on Cera’s calendar (or the rumour was bogus to begin with) because in an interview with Jeffrey Tambor (George Bluth Sr./Uncle Father Oscar), we learn that the movie is most definitely happening and that the creator, writer and producer Mitch Hurwitz has made all of the requisite calls to the cast to inform them of their new jobs.

In the interview, Tambor tells fans that they can finally feel safe and get their hopes up once and for all. I can’t tell you how excited I am about this news! Of course, since I’ve been burned before I’ll probably remain a little guarded until they start production, but things are looking very, very good.

So, GMMR readers, does this make you excited? Are you willing to let yourself believe, or do you think that would be a huge mistake? Which character(s) are you most excited to see again?

Survivor Recap: “The Brains Behind Everything”

November 14, 2008 by

This week’s episode cut the list of castaways down to eight potential millionaires. After a slow start with a bloated cast of eighteen contenders, the past two weeks have focused the show into a competitive sprint for the finish line. In order to keep up with the faster pace, it is time for some fast and furious headlines regarding Survivor Gabon.

* The bait and switch “Merge Feast” in last week’s episode succeeded in confusing a cast of characters who had grown presumptuous in their strategies for reaching the final three.

* Kenny has become the new Ace, despite acting skills that would not justify a callback for an elementary school play. From an awkward attempt to keep Charlie from revealing the second Immunity Idol clue to a successful campaign to eject poor Charlie from the tribe, the video game pro has somehow grown into a position of prominence. With Sugar’s help, we are watching Kenny become the judge, jury, and executioner of the game.

Happy Thursday!!  We’ve got a big night of TV ahead of us.  Or should I say you’ve got a big night of TV ahead of you.  I, sadly, will probably miss a lot of television tonight.  My friend Stephanie arrived here in L.A. from Boston last night so I don’t think we’ll be crowding around the TV.  There’s a lot of exploring to do, restaurants to visit, and wine to drink.  But I’ll be sure to catch up on Hulu tomorrow.

We’ve got a fun day planned.  This afternoon we’re heading over to the Warner Bros lot to have lunch with a few of the press reps that provide GMMR with news tidbits, vids, etc.  A fab group of people so I’m looking forward to it.  Then Steph and I are going to jump in a golf cart and get a private tour of the WB lot – how fun?! Hopefully there will be a few celeb sightngs.  It’s going to be particulary heartbreaking to drive by the PUSHING DAISIES set knowing that today is their lst day of filming (not canceled yet but not picked up yet either).

BONES: The Con Man in The Meth Lab

Seven Words.

Seven words were all it would have taken to make everything okay. But it didn’t happen, and I’m not sure I can ever forgive Brennan.

I have a lot to say, and this week’s blog is going to look a little bit different. First a few preliminaries, but then I’ll tell you why I love Cam now, why Brennan’s birthday toast to Booth was full of crap, and why I’m not sure Booth learned anything at all.

The Preliminaries:

1. I loved this episode. I’m so angry I can hardly type, but I love the emotion it evoked in me. BONES is at its best when I feel this way.
2. I’m over this whatever-ness that is Angela and Hodgins. Are they friends? Awkward? Whatever.
3. Sweets was good, so was Clark.

Okay, enough with all of that. Here’s the real deal.

Bad News: Enemy & Jungle; Good News: Privileged

November 13, 2008 by

So NBC just pulled the plug on the low rated LIPSTICK JUNGLE and the Christian Slater drama, MY OWN WORST ENEMY.  Oh well.  Odds are that you probably didn’t watch either of these shows anyway.  I wonder what magical and ground breaking new television show Ben Silverman has stolen from overseas up his sleeve.

In much better news, I’m happy to report that PRIVILEGED has been picked up for 5 additional episodes.  Clearly they were hoping for the full back 9, but I’m sure they’re not complaining. And in a show of support, the CW is going to air original episodes of PRIVILEGED after GOSSIP GIRL for the first two weeks in December.  That’s pretty sweet.  Maybe some GOSSIP GIRLers will find their way to PRIVILEGED.

As we get closer to the launch of the midseason shows, we are going to unfortunately (or fortunately) be hearing a lot more shows being canceled. TV is a such a fickle place.

HOUSE: The Itch

Hugh Laurie, HOUSE

While humans are assumed to be intensely social creatures, many find themselves isolated from one another due to wildly different circumstances. Whether mourning a lost love, caring for a child or aging parent in poor health, running a home-based business, or dealing with other uniquely personal struggles, most of us have dealt with the velocity of sameness that comes from living in a solitary state. There is a danger in following a routine devoid of intimate human contact, especially when our dreams and aspirations can be pursued via iPhone or Blackberry. Are there consequences to having the virtual world at our fingertips? Would we have fuller lives with five friends on our block than with five hundred friends on Facebook? This is a daunting question for a Wi-Fi world, and a dicey subject for prime time television.

Fortunately, the House team made huge strides in addressing this dilemma during this week’s episode. Through the eyes of a lovelorn Dr. House, a strident Dr. Cameron, and a defeated patient, we saw three distinct reactions to the emotional consequences of loneliness.

PRIVILEGED: All About Insecurities

It’s pretty late in the day for those of you on the East Coast, and I’m sorry I’m just now getting around to posting Nicole’s review of last night’s episode of PRIVILEGED.  As I mentioned, today I spent the day on the set of the show and got to spend some time watching them film some scenes and did some chit chatting with JoAnna Garcia (Megan), Ashley Newbrough (Sage) and Brian Hallisay (Will).  It was a blast and I can’t wait to share all the details with you soon, but for now enjoy Nicole’s take on last night’s episode.  With no TiVo here at the hotel I wasn’t able to see it, but I was filled in today (thanks Robin) and I can’t wait to watch it.

One last thing before we get to last night’s ep….everyone I spoke with today made mention of the importance of fan support.  So for those of you spreading the word of PRIVILEGED…keep on with the keep on – it’s appreciated.

Ok, enough from me…over to Nicole.

What a great episode! I loved Privileged last night – this, despite the fact that the hour was entirely Charlie-free. Each of the storylines were pretty Megan-centric, but we got some very nice glimpses into the lives of some of the other characters – particularly Will, Sage and Rose. We also seem to have witnessed a bit of a truce between Ice Queen Laurel and Megan.

At the end of last week’s episode Laurel told Megan she would have to prove her honor to the family, and this week she more than did that when her college roommate Karen showed up and handed her an opportunity to sell out her new employers. There was also a glimpse into the future careers of Rose and Sage and the current career of Will (who knew he had one!?!?). Onto the breakdown:

Megan and Karen
Karen (played by Sarah Drew of EVERWOOD and MAD MEN) is Megan’s Yale roommate who popped in for a visit.  The two girls hadn’t seen each other in a while and Megan’s ecstatic to have a friend staying with her that she can commiserate with.

Comments Off on BIG BANGing it Up Tonight

My first full day here in L.A. has been relaxing.  I got an early start to the day and have spent most of this afternoon walking around town and enjoying the weather.  And now I’m getting ready for what is sure to be a fun night ahead.  I’m off to pick up my friend Korbi and we are heading over to the set of THE BIG BANG THEORY to watch them tape an upcoming episode.  So fun! I’ll be sure to fill you in on the details later.

Of course going to BBT means I am missing out on the PUSHING DAISIES panel at Paley.  I can’t really talk about it without getting too emotional.  I mean I flew into L.A. early just to attend tonight’s writers panel.  When I wasn’t able to get my hands on a ticket I made other plans.  Of course I’m thrilled to be heading over to see Sheldon and the boys (and Penny) but sad to know that I’m missing out on what I’m sure will be an amazing night with the PUSHING DAISIES writers.  I guess you can’t win ’em all.

If you are going to the PD panel, drop me a line here or at ThePieMaker.com and let me know how it was.

I’ll try to update the site with BBT news when I can.

Major McJourneyman Named a Regular on GREY’S ANATOMY

November 11, 2008 by

Seattle Grace has actually done something right this week.  Chief Webber has hired Dr. Owen Hunt as the latest full time staff member of the esteemed (well at least sometimes esteemed) hospital.

Kevin McKidd has been named a series regular to GREY’S ANATOMY.  I for one think McKidd has been a fantastic addition to the show thus far and I’m happy to know he’ll be kicking it with McDreamy and McSteamy for the foreseeable future.  Let’s just hope they don’t make him gay…seems to be the kiss of death over there.  I kid, I kid…kind of.

Anyway, McKidd’s character seems to tell it like it is, and we like that (and need that) in GREY’S these days.

A show of hands for people that think this is a good move for GREY’S?

cast of PRIVILEGED

I’m going to be hitting the set of PRIVILEGED tomorrow to check out the behind-the-scenes action and get the inside scoop.  As you all know, I’m a big fan of the show so I’m sure it will be a blast.

In addition to talking to Executive Producer Rina Mimoun, I’m told that series stars JoAnna Garcia (Megan), Brian Hallisay (Will) and Ashley Newbrough (Sage) will be on set filming.  (I’m still crossing my fingers that Michael Cassidy (Charlie) will be hanging around on set too.)

If you have any questions for the PRIVILEGED folks be sure to leave a comment below today.  And please leave your name and hometown as I’m going to try to get as many of YOUR questions answered as I can.

Chuck vs. The Ex

This is where I hang my head in shame and apologize profusely to SB.  Having missed CHUCK on Monday night while sitting on a plane (although in full disclosure I watched three episodes of CHUCK while flying so I get a few points, right?) I totes forgot to post SB’s review.  So here it is….really late….so sorry.

******

So, who loves November sweeps? Ummm … ME. I do. That’s when the drama and the angst really roll out, and what can I say? I love both, and this episode delivered fully.

I think we’re all used to having our hearts break for Chuck, but Sarah tore me apart this week. At least when she’s working her seduction ruses, you know it’s all an act. Seeing her dying a little over Chuck and Jill, knowing that it was real and he wanted something that he could be sure was an actual thing KILLED me, and at no moment was my heartbreak more devastating than when Chuck insisted it was too dangerous for Jill to give the speech and Sarah said, “Fine. I’ll give it instead.” And Chuck let her! I just wanted to punch him for being such an ass! And, okay, I know that Chuck was only being a sweet, protective, lovable ass, but he’s not supposed to be that for Jill. JILL!

I also got really mad at Billy when he suggested that Jill might be hotter than Sarah. Okay, no. No no no. Jordana Brewster is beautiful, obviously, but Jill in no way kicks the ass that Sarah does in all forms and facets of her life.

Before I turn things over to Jen may I just say how difficult it is to post this review of last night’s episode without actually reading it.  As I was on a plane I missed all of my Monday night shows and I need to catch up online this morning.  So while you are reading and commenting on last night’s ep, I’m going to give it a watch.  Once again…the internet FTW!!

And now on to Jen’s review…

It must be really difficult in the writer’s room to come up with so many different dating lingos, with definitions, for the character of Barney to invent. Lemon Law, Hot/Crazy Scale and now we have The Cheerleader Effect. If anyone missed the definition, here it is: when a group of women seem hot but only as a group. Take them individually and they are hideous. Also see: Bridesmaid Paradox, Sorority Syndrome and Spice Girls Conspiracy. Kudos to the cantina scene reference from “Star Wars”. Does George Lucas make money for each time “Star Wars” is mentioned? This is the third time this season his brilliant trilogy has been mentioned. Yes, I know there are six movies, but I believe there really is only one true “Star Wars” trilogy, Episodes IV – VI. Read more
