Dear Showrunner…

This, my friends, is me cheating. This is me posting a post a pseudo-game in lieu of blogging this morning. I have my reasons, and though they might not be good enough, I still have ’em. Here’s where my head is at this fine Wednesday.
(1) The morning after one of the most important and historic Presidential elections this country has ever seen, I struggled with an appropriate post that should follow my last one which was Barack Obama’s acceptance speech. Talking about how hot Charlie looked last night on PRIVILEGED, while a very important matter, didn’t seem right as my very first post of the day. We will talk about it, but just later.
(2) I didn’t watch much TV outside of the election coverage last night, so I don’t have a ton to talk about right now. Actually the major TV news item that is of interest to me right now is the de-gayifying of GREY’S ANATOMY and the firing of the brilliant Brooke Smith. But after what happened last night with Prop 8 in California and Prop 2 in Florida, I feel that my emotions are not in check enough to deal with the ignorance and arrogance of others.
(3) I can afford to be a little lazy today as I have a 100% TV focused week ahead of me. It all starts with a TV Bloggers weekend here in Boston. Rae from Ramblings of a TV Whore and Amrie from My Take on TV are headed to Boston to hang with me and Ducky this weekend. I’m sure we’ll be doing some podcasting so stay tuned.
And guess what happens when they leave? I head off to Los Angeles for a 6-day TV adventure! I’ll let you know what I’m up to as things get finalized, but if things go as planned I’ll be stopping by to visit a few shows which are quickly becoming favorites for GMMR readers. I’m excited!! I’ve missed you L.A.!!
(4) The best part of having a TV blog (outside of meeting John Krasinski and Joshua Jackson) is reading comments from all of you! (Yeah, sorry but as much as I love you all you just don’t trump JK or JJ). So anytime I can post something hear that allows me to hear what you all have to think, I’m one happy blogger.
Ok, so let’s go. Here’s what I’d like to know. If you could ask one showrunner, from any show, just one question what would it be? The show can be on the air or a favorite show from your past.
I’ll start…
For Damon Lindelof & Carlton Cuse of LOST – Did you know how LOST would end before the show started to air? If not at what point in time did you figure it all out?
(yes, I suppose 2-parters are ok).
If anyone wants to play along, leave your questions in the comments. You never know who stops by GMMR during the day…maybe one of your questions will be answered.

Barack Obama’s Victory Speech
If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer.
It’s the answer told by lines that stretched around schools and churches in numbers this nation has never seen, by people who waited three hours and four hours, many for the first time in their lives, because they believed that this time must be different, that their voices could be that difference.
It’s the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled. Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been just a collection of individuals or a collection of red states and blue states.
We are, and always will be, the United States of America.

I’m proud to share the news that Barack Obama has been elected as the 44th President of the United States of America.
No matter what your political affiliation, it’s a historic day in this country.
“I urge all Americans…to not just congratulate him but offer our next President our good will and earnest effort to find ways to come together to find the necessary compromises to bridge our differences and help restore our prosperity, defend our security in a dangerous world and leave our children and grandchildren a stronger, better country than we inherited. Whatever our differences, we are fellow Americans…” – John McCain

GOSSIP GIRL Makes Me Happy Despite…

Too much happened on GOSSIP GIRL last night not to chat about it. Unfortunately I don’t have that luxury today. So how about a little compromise? I’ll toss out a few nuggets and then you take the ball and run with it. (Wait, was that a mixed metaphor? I don’t think it even qualifies…but I think you get my drift.)
Little J – What in God’s name is going on with that child? Crashing a charity ball with her fashion show? I was actually pulling for it to blow up in her face. I mean, how rude?! Jenny is out of control and needs to reign it in. Maybe I’m just old and crumdgeony but I think her latest stunt as a badass designer and now a runaway is just tired. Put the eyeliner away, ditch Kaitlin Cooper and pull it together.
And not to go all Amy & Seth on you, but REALLY…are we suppose to believe that the AARP attendees at the charity ball were really into Jenny’s designs? Really?! Come on now. And speaking of Miss J’s designs, did this new sense of style come as a result of the magical and mysterious eyeliner too? Just a few weeks ago she was making tasteful doily dresses for the white party in the Hamptons, and fancy (conservative) green numbers for Eleanor’s line. Now all of a sudden it’s all about ripped clothes and tulle? Eh, I’m over her.
Nate – Here’s to hoping he finds something interesting to do besides make out with girls a lot less pretty than he is (although I’m sure it’s not easy to find such a girl). And when does find something to do, please let him do it shirtless.
Vanessa – This note is to the writers rather than Ms. Vanessa herself. Writers: What’s the point?
HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER: Happily Ever After

I have been anxiously waiting for this episode for nearly two months now, ever since I read the episode description in the casting scoop for Eric Braeden (Young & The Restless). This show excels with representing the characters’ pasts, considering that this show really takes place in 2030, it should! But when we learn more about the characters before Ted’s story started, that’s when the show’s creative energy is out in full force. And any opportunity to see Robin’s past makes me giddy!
While Future Ted is telling his kids that his first wedding didn’t end up with a happy ending, we find the gang at MacLaren’s with Current Ted reminiscing how his friends have stood by him through this rough time and they helped him get over Stella. As Lily points out, it’s only been a day. It’s been 24 hours and Ted is telling his friends that he is fine and over being left at, well, technically not at the alter. So Ted is ready to move on. A new chapter in his life is starting and Kool & the Gang is the first song on that soundtrack.
CALIFORNICATION: Coke Dick & First Kick

Hey GMMR readers it’s Sarah back with a little review of last night’s Californication. What an episode?! Runkle made his major movie debut in Vaginatown! Moody felt his maybe baby kick for the first time!
The episode, Coke Dick & First Kick, opens with Hank scoping out the home of Lew Ashby’s long lost love and former wife, and not like Mulder would have! He’s going through the mail box, snooping around. At this point who cares if he gets labeled a stalker! It can’t get any worse than being a mouth rapist and just the fact that he’s working is great. In the last couple of episodes he’s been just sleeping around and drinking. The wallowing over Karen seems to be less extreme this time around. Maybe Chloe knocked it out of him? Or maybe his upcoming jump back into fatherhood has him preoccupied? Let’s face it Becca resembles more of a father to both her parents than Moody has. Unsuccessful at getting the 411 about Lew’s lady Hank moves on after a very funny run in with a bush and the new husband!
Election Day 2008!!

Today is election day here in the U.S. Please get out and vote. I have a busy day at work so I’m going to be at the polls at 7am here in Newton, MA. That’s damn early, but it’s that important. I’m sure there will be many people in line early with me so I’m getting my warm clothes ready. I have the right to vote and there is nothing that can stop me
If you are registered to vote, you MUST not waste this important right as a citizen of this country.
- Know your voting location. If you are unsure as to where you should go, check out: Can I Vote.org
- Know the candidates you are voting for and where they stand on issues important to you. This isn’t just about Obama & McCain, it’s about all elected officials running for office.
- Understand the propositions you will be voting for or against. Often the wording of these laws can prove to be confusing. Make sure what your YES vote or NO vote really means. This isn’t a test – you are allowed to bring a cheat sheet in with you.
- Take the time you need. Don’t feel rushed. No one is timing you.
- It’s ok to ask questions, that’s what the election officials are there for.
- The lines might be long. Stand there and wait.
- You might hear early results and think your vote doesn’t matter. It does.
When you’ve done your civic duty, come on back here to GMMR and celebrate with the rest of us proud citizens.

Dear Producers of THE AMAZING RACE.
Your show is beginning to bore me. How about some interesting challenges that actually hold my attention? Painting a car and ironing, really? There’s been only a handful of truly exciting tasks this season. I’m not saying that you have to have the racers eat bugs or scape mountains every week, but have them do something interesting…please!
Oh and I really don’t care about the interpersonal relationships of the contestants as much I do about the race itself. Either get back on track or start calling it “The Amazing Couples Therapy Session.”
Please do better.
That is all.

HEROES Producers Fired
November 3, 2008 by Kath Skerry
Last night I wrote up a small piece on two HEROES producers, Jesse Alexander and Joseph Loeb, leaving the show. I had meant to post it this morning but I forgot all about it. But in hindsight I’m glad I’m didn’t because there was more the the story than what was released on THR.com yesterday.
Here’s my original post…
Seems as if the former fans of HEROES aren’t the only ones jumping ship. According to a report that just broke on THR.com, Jesse Alexander and Joseph Loeb – two of HEROES co-Executive Producers- have bid farewell (probably not a fond one) to the show. They say they are leaving due to “creative differences” which is the entertainment equivalent of “irreconcilable differences”.
Let’s hope the remaining Executive Producers know how to turn around the cluster-F that is HEROES.
That was last night. But today reports are surfacing that Loeb and Alexander were actually fired from the show. This bit of news certainly changed my perception of things over at HEROES. Originally thinking that the two producers quit on their own accord, I had visions of rats leaving a sinking ship (not calling Alexander & Loeb rats of course, but in the analogy HEROES is most definitely the sinking ship). I figured if those who have been there since the beginning are leaving then maybe there was no hope. But that was all before word was leaked today that Alexander & Loeb were actually fired from the show. Now I’m thinking that perhaps HEROES is taking on the mentality of out with the old, in with the new. Is this a step in the right direction?
I’m of course just passing along what I’ve read – I promise you I have no inside scoop on this debacle – but I thought it brought forth an interesting question to ponder. Do you think the show is heading in the right direction by firing these two producers or are you worried that getting rid of guys that were there in the shows best of times could be even more harmful?
I’ve pretty much given up on the season. I had fallen behind in the series and hoped to catch up, but everyone I talked to told me not to bother because it just wasn’t worth it. Oh how the mighty have fallen.
Speak up HEROES fans. Do you think Jesse and Joseph’s departures means further turmoil for the show?

Are you ready for a little XOXO? Maybe a little sneak peek at tonight’s episode of GOSSIP GIRL will help your Monday go by a little faster.
“There Might be Blood” – 8pm on The CW
Serena (Blake Lively) invites Aaron (guest star John Patrick Amedori) to be her guest at a charity gala honoring Lily and Bart (Kelly Rutherford and guest star Robert John Burke), but after discovering a secret that Aaron has been keeping from her she begins to question whether Aaron is the guy she thought he was. Hoping it will help her chances of getting into Yale, Blair (Leighton Meester) naively agrees to babysit the 15-year-old daughter of a prominent Yale donor, but the teenager proves to be more than a handful and Blair begins to suspect that the evening may actually wind up hurting her chances of getting into the college of her dreams. Meanwhile, Jenny (Taylor Momsen) and Agnes (guest star Willa Holland) plan a guerilla fashion show that will either launch Jenny’s star or ruin her chances of ever being accepted by the industry.
Another week of Jenny Humphrey 2.UGH…I’m not sure I can take it.
DEXTER: “Si Se Puede”

Well, after last week’s episode and its bombshell, there was little this episode could have done to top it off in the revelation department. But, as all good TV fans know, not every episode can be an event, and this was one of the examples of a completely solid episode where nothing happened and a lot happened all at the same time.
I was kinda sad we didn’t get to see more of Wendell. I thought he had awesome chemistry with Deb and could really have furthered her career (more on that later), but, alas, the Skinner (Is that what we’re calling this person?) had other plans, as Wendell was the worst victim yet.
DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES: “There’s Always a Woman”
November 3, 2008 by Kath Skerry
The theme of this week’s episode was dangerous women. Our favorite housewives are all dealing with big changes in their lives and some of these changes are the result of dangerous women who have come into their lives.
After breaking up with Jackson last week when she reused to move in with him, Susan finally realizes that she needs to open herself up and take a chance on Jackson. Of course, the way she did this was completely stereotypical; an old wise man gave her life advice. Really, that’s the first time I’ve ever seen that plot device (not!). Susan decides to surprise Jackson by sneaking into his apartment and jumping into the shower with whom she thought was him. Of course, instead of being Jackson, it was his new much younger fling. The scene that followed was pure physical comedy. Teri Hatcher did a great job. For the most part, the scene was believable and hilarious. Susan and Jackson eventually decided to “start over”. This, if course, involved the stereotypical starting over scene where they reintroduce themselves to each other. I’ve seen that done on Sex and the City way too many times for it to even remotely work here.
