Late Night with Jimmy Fallon Unofficially Starts Tonight
December 8, 2008 by Kath Skerry
Here’s what we know: Jay Leno is leaving “The Tonight Show”. Conan Is leaving “Late Night” to take over for Jay. Jimmy Fallon is coming on board with “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” and will be taking over for Conan.
Here’s what we don’t know: Will Jimmy Fallon be any good?
Tonight we may just find out.
Starting tonight at 12:35pm, Jimmy Fallon will be posting nightly 5 minute video blogs on NBC.com to give us a taste of his version of “Late Night”. I don’t think these vlogs are really about our enjoyment as much as it’s about NBC gauging the public’s reaction to Fallon. His shtick has always been goofy, random, quirky and at sometime really annoying. This is NBC’s chance to find out what works and what doesn’t and work to fix it before Jimmy’s debut in the first half of 2009.
I’m intrigued. When he’s not spastic and fidgety, Fallon can be really funny. I think his success is going to come down to his own comfort level. I guess we’ll see how far he’s come starting tonight at 12:35pm.
Are you excited about Jimmy Fallon joining the late night talk show circuit?

I only watch NBC late night. I like Jimmy Falon (Fever Pitch is an awesome movie!) – but you’re right – he can be spazzy, I didn’t like him on SNL for that reason. I’m interested in seeing how he does, especially live…I’ll watch for sure and I’m rooting for him.
But – I’m more interested to see what Conan does with the Tonight Show!! Is it just going to be The Late Show with Conan O’Brien on at 11:35, or is it “Jay’s” show with a Conan twist? Hmmmm
