Take 5: VERONICA MARS Top 5 Episodes

December 8, 2008 by
Filed under Take 5, Veronica Mars

It’s time for another installment of GiveMeMyRemote.com’s “Take 5”.  With Each “Take 5”, members of Team GMMR pick their five favorite episodes of some of their favorite shows.  After sharing their faves, we open up to you to tell us which episodes stand out as some of the best to YOU.  There are no wrong answers, just a lot of fond memories.

In today’s “Take 5”, Tricia shares with us her favorite 5 episodes of one of my very favorite shows of all time – VERONICA MARS.

This is going to be good…I can just feel it. Over to you, Tricia.

———————————————-

I saw my first episode of Veronica Mars about two years ago. It was the first episode of the third season. I was impressed but I had no idea how good the show really was until I watch the first two seasons on DVD a few months later. From that point on, I was absolutely addicted. Since then, I’ve watched every single episode of each and every season five times. I’ve gotten my friends and family addicted. My favorite shirt is the My Pretty Pony tee- shirt I ordered offline six months ago.

All this is why choosing just five episodes of Veronica Mars was nearly impossible for me. But, after much thought, I chose what I believe to be the top 5 episodes. I know some of these choices are going to be controversial so I’d love to hear your thoughts below.

5. Weapons of Class Destruction
This was the episode that kick-started one of the best TV romances ever: Logan and Veronica, or LoVe, as some like to call them. The episode starts off with Veronica’s suspicions being raised when a new classmate, Ben, starts showing some violent tendencies. Then there are the suspicious fire drills that Neptune High’s been having. Veronica does what she does best and discovers the school’s been receiving bomb threats. She follows Ben and discovers him storing fertilizer and guns in his cars. Logan interrupts the stakeout when he calls Veronica just as Ben takes the opportunity to jump in the car and demands that Veronica take him to the Camelot Motel. Veronica drops the phone, with Logan still on the line.  Just as Veronica starts to panic, Logan appears and lays out Ben with a powerful Echolls punch.  Soon after Veronica discovers that Ben is an undercover agent investigating another student at Neptune High. He asks Veronica to help and she accepts. And then something happens that makes this episode top 5 worth; Veronica kisses Logan in a scene the was full of so much chemistry that it gave me chills. The episode ends with Veronica figuring out that Ben was setting Norris up, but, honestly, who was really paying attention at that point? Veronica and Logan had finally realized that their chemistry was undeniable!

BOSTON LEGAL Ends Tonight

Boston Legal

Tonight marks the series finale of BOSTON LEGAL (9pm on ABC).  As you can tell by the lack of coverage here on GMMR, I’m not a regular watcher of the show.  But those of you who listen to The TV Talk Podcast know that I have always thought very highly of BOSTON LEGAL. On the occasion that I did watch it (usually at my parents house on a Sunday afternoon), I found it very smart, very funny and very daring.  BOSTON LEGAL was one of those shows that I should have been watching.  My loss.  At least there is syndication.

Any BOSTON LEGAL fans out there feel like sharing their favorite moments?

Dexter recap

Well, some of the events in this episode were a long time coming and some were out of left field. Let’s get started before this venti no-whip mocha sitting next to me kicks in and I can barely type.

Firstly, I didn’t see the bachelor party angle coming AT ALL! I busted out laughing when Masuka got socked in the face by a terrified Dexter. I’ve never been to a bachelor party, but every guy I know who has or has had one thrown in their honor agrees with Dexter: it’s for every guy but the groom. But, the occasion did give everyone a hangover the next morning and Dex plenty of fodder to use against Prado later.

Late Night with Jimmy Fallon Unofficially Starts Tonight

Late Night with Jimmy Fallon

Here’s what we know: Jay Leno is leaving “The Tonight Show”.  Conan Is leaving “Late Night” to take over for Jay.  Jimmy Fallon is coming on board with “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” and will be taking over for Conan.

Here’s what we don’t know:  Will Jimmy Fallon be any good?

Tonight we may just find out.

Starting tonight at 12:35pm, Jimmy Fallon will be posting nightly 5 minute video blogs on NBC.com to give us a taste of his version of “Late Night”.  I don’t think these vlogs are really about our enjoyment as much as it’s about NBC gauging the public’s reaction to Fallon.  His shtick has always been goofy, random, quirky and at sometime really annoying. This is NBC’s chance to find out what works and what doesn’t and work to fix it before Jimmy’s debut in the first half of 2009.

I’m intrigued. When he’s not spastic and fidgety, Fallon can be really funny.  I think his success is going to come down to his own comfort level.  I guess we’ll see how far he’s come starting tonight at 12:35pm.

Are you excited about Jimmy Fallon joining the late night talk show circuit?

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES Recap: A Vision’s Just a Vision

Desperate Housewives Recap

Tonight’s episode is the last episode of 2008, and it was a great one; there were some laughs and a big reveal.

Katherine and Mike’s relationship is starting to take off and Katherine wants to spend more time with MJ. MJ, however, has something else in mind: he wants his parents to get back together. All this leads to an emotional scene between Mike and Susan. Susan tells might that a part of her still believes there’s a chance of them getting back together and Mike refuses to acknowledge her. I thought this scene was touching. It shows that even when two people divorce they’re still tied together in some way. Personally, I think it’s obvious that they will get back together at some point, but I’m in no rush to see it happen. I like them better separately.

Crusoe, NBC

Crusoe is back after the Thanksgiving break and it looks like the powers that be at NBC have allowed him to stay stranded just a little while longer.

This week, Crusoe and Friday learn the mutineers’ ship is ready earlier than they thought it would be, so they quickly devise a scheme to sneak on board and overthrow Atkins and restore Captain Taylor to power. Their plan is for Olivia to take Atkins and a few of his men into the jungle and show them where Crusoe’s tree house is so that Crusoe and Taylor can overtake them when they return. Of course it doesn’t work out that way.

Survivor Gabon

After a Thanksgiving highlight show gave Survivor fans a recap of the season’s eliminated contestants, the Gabon crew returned to their manipulative ways this week.

With just seven contenders left in the Nobag camp, the dramatic tension was more palpable than ever.

Corinne delivered the first hard punch before three minutes had elapsed in the show, when she asserted, “In general, I am a nice person to people I like. I am now in a camp of mutants, none of whom I like!” Game on!

30 ROCK: Reunion

30 ROCK

Liz Lemon was a mean girl! Funny that “Reunion” comes just as Tina Fey’s Vanity Fair cover story is hitting the stands, in which she admits to Maureen Dowd that she had “a touch of high-school bitchy” during her younger days. Or maybe not funny at all: maybe this well-timed revelation is just another track on Tina Fey’s roadmap to ruling the universe.

It was a neat trick: what we take for granted about Liz—that her snarly bossiness and smart mouth mask her insecurities and social ineptitude—and what she misreads as shy is what her former classmates (including the cool, pretty crowd) remember as biting and nasty. I loved the reveal of the White Haven Witch, who apparently made lives miserable simply by being the clueless, bespectacled, quippy nerd we know and love. And she’s able to drive her old foes back to facial tics and dancing just by showing up, which means Liz Lemon already rules the universe.

THE OFFICE: The Surplus

The Office, The Surplus

Red rover, red rover, send Michael right over. Welcome to a alternate-reality Dunder Mifflin where Michael Scott is the world’s best boss, the most popular guy at work, and his minions want to do nothing but please him and make him happy. It’s a scary reality, and one I’m glad didn’t last the full half hour.

The “Other” Dunder Mifflin…

“The Surplus” might be remembered as the episode where Dwight and Angela got married. I, however, will choose to remember it as the ep where Pam almost prostituted herself for a new desk chair. I’m not judging – use what God gave you Ms. Beesly.

Bryan Fuller Returning to HEROES

December 4, 2008 by

Bryan FullerLooks like PUSHING DAISIES is deader than a dead guy after Ned’s second touch. Word on the street (and THR.com) is that Daisies creator Bryan Fuller will be returning to HEROES for the last three episodes of this season. Fuller worked on HEROES during its first season and wrote some of the best episodes of the show including “Company Men”.

You know I personally love every little bit of Bryan Fuller but I’m not sure his return is going to be enough to get me back to HEROES. I tried. I really did, but the show just kept letting me down over and over again. My Monday night TV schedule is just too crowded for a show that seems to keep saying – wait, oops, we screwed up again, just give us one more chance we’ll get it right this time.
