Dirty Sexy Money – The Summer House

Now that Dirty Sexy Money has been cancelled, I’m finding it hard to muster up the same level of enthusiasm for recapping it that I had just a few weeks ago. I fear that we are never going to know who killed Dutch (or if he is really even dead). It also seems that we might not witness the return of Juliet since her come back episode was whisked from the schedule last week without any warning. But because I am nothing if not loyal, I’m going to stick with it until the bitter end – however many episodes from now that may be.
Two One Weddings and a Take Over
It’s Karen and Simon’s wedding day. Tripp and Nick pay a visit to Simon to try to get him to call off the wedding. Tripp attempts to buy Simon off, offering him a blank check, but it is not money alone that Simon wants. To leave Karen at the altar, Simon demands a higher price – majority control of Darling Enterprises. No deal. Tripp and Nick leave in anger.
SECRET MILLIONAIRE Premieres Tonight

This past May at the Fox Upfronts there was one show that had everyone in the audience reaching for some tissues – Secret Millionaire. The new reality show, which premieres tonight at 8pm on Fox, will definitely pull on your heartstrings. Put your cynicism aside and see what comes of it.
So what’s it all about? Six millionaires will leave their opulent lifestyles and go undercover to experience life in some of the most impoverished areas of the country including a community devastated by Hurricane Katrina, an old coal-mining town in Schuylkill County, PA, and areas outside of Los Angeles, San Francisco and Las Vegas, where people in need live just minutes from those in upscale, gated communities.
Challenged with living on minimum wage, the millionaires will immerse themselves in situations beyond their comprehension. They will work side-by-side with community members and befriend those in need. During their stay, they decide who of their new-found friends, neighbors or co-workers should ultimately receive their extraordinary gifts of a lifetime – at least $100,000 of their own money.
New! American Idol Promo Featuring David Cook

It’s not even worth pretending that I’m not going to get completely suckered into another season of AMERICAN IDOL. Here’s to hoping they change things up a bit. Despite the talent of David Cook, things were rather stale last season. Enough with the same old, same old. You have a new judge…what else are you giving me.
AMERICAN IDOL premieres on Fox on Wednesday, January 14th at 8pm. I’ll be there…will you?
HOUSE: Let Them Eat Cake

For my money, live music is the single best way to escape the painful monotony of the work week. Legendary performers such as The Rolling Stones or Madonna have accumulated massive fortunes by giving fans a chance to forget about their troubles for an evening. No matter who your favorite artist may be, or what style of music most frequently appears on your iPod playlists, experienced live acts swear by the science of creating a great set list. After opening with a few hits, it is essential that things slow down a notch, in order to sustain the energy in the room for the rest of the night. Some bands fill this gap with quiet ballads, while others simply perform new material in order to rest the weary vocal cords of their enthusiastic fans. The very best live acts can use this ebb and flow throughout an evening, for the purpose of taking their audience on an emotional journey.
In the aftermath of an emotional hostage crisis, the House band gave their audience a chance to catch our breath and crack a few smiles this week. By delivering an hour packed with playful asides and absurd flirtation, the good folks behind our favorite medical drama earned an enthusiastic encore.
Christmas Comes Early: Elaine Stritch Is Back on 30 ROCK

If you’re a multi-genre nerd like me, you can’t help but be excited when two of your favorite worlds collide: in this case, 30 ROCK and actual Broadway legends, or ELAINE freakin’ STRITCH, she of the Emmys and the Tonys and the omnipresent hats.
Stritch dialed in yesterday for an NBC Universal conference call to promote her return as Jack’s mother in the December 11 episode “Christmas Special,” and I’m happy to report that Elaine Stritch on the phone does not disappoint. A broad is a broad is a broad, and this one was brassy, sassy, and how shall we say, loose of tongue; i.e., both salty and refreshingly candid.

Stop what you are doing RIGHT now, turn up the volume on our computer and enjoy Prop 8: The Musical – a new video from FunnyorDie.com. Oh and you might notice a few familiar faces, like Neil Patrick Harris, Jack Black, Rashida Jones, Allison Janney, just to name a few.
And well since we are naming names, here are the other stars involved:
California Gays and The People That Love Them
Jordan Ballard, Margaret Cho, Barrett Foa, J.B. Ghuman, John Hill, Andy Richter, Maya Rudolph, Rashad Naylor, Nicole Parker.
The Frightened Villagers
John C Reilly as a Prop 8 leader, and Alison Janney as his wife. Kathy Najimy as his second wife. Jenifer Lewis as a riffing Prop 8’er. Craig Robinson as a preacher. Rashida Jones, Lake Bell, Sarah Chalke as Scary Catholic School Girls from Hell. Katharine “Kooks” Leonard, Seth Morris, Denise “Esi!” Piane, Lucian Piane, Richard Read, Seth Redford, Quinton Strack, and Tate Taylor as The Frightened Villagers.
Jack Black stars as Jesus Christ, and Neil Patrick Harris is billed as ‘A Very Smart Fellow’.
Hairspray composer Marc Shaiman (whose boycott lead to the resignation of Sacramento’s California Musical Theatre creative director Scott Eckern following his donation to Prop 8) wrote and conceived this hysterical short piece (presented with a wink and a nod by the ‘Sacramento Community College Players’), which was directed and staged by Hairspray director and choreographer Adam Shankman and features plenty of folks you will recognize.
PRIVILEGED: All About Love, Actually

So we had a short little break from new Privileged episodes and now we’re back on Monday nights (after powerhouse Gossip Girl, no less) for some fun in the Palm Beach sun. I loved this week’s episode and laughed a lot while watching, but I also found it to be all over the place too (not necessarily a bad thing, I’m just saying). There were a lot of roller coaster-style ups and downs in the various love lives of our favourite Floridians (except poor Rose who was doing her best Cinderella impression throughout the episode – she was trying to be a good groundee, which was very sweet). We were also introduced to the concept of the Wallow Hallow – what’s yours?
Before we get into this week’s antics, just a reminder that if you haven’t checked out GMMR’s notes and pics from her recent set visit to Privileged, you can do so here: GMMR: On the Set of PRIVILEGED

I happen to know there is a particular contingent of GMMR readers that will be interested in this news. I aim to please.

The movie stars Julianne Nicholson, Timothy Hutton, Bobby Cannavale, Will Forte, Christopher Meloni, Dominic Cooper, Josh Charles, (possibly) Rashida Jones, and Ben Gibbard, among others.

CHUCK vs. The Sensai

Oooohhhh … you guys … a CASEY episode! I bet you were worried there would be no recap because my head exploded from awesomeness, and while that very nearly did happen, I live to see another day! Oh, and I’m just going to tell on myself and say that first thing in the episode, when Casey chased down and tackled the white ninja and stabbed him with a pen and ripped off his mask and said, “Sensei?” I got totally excited to make a pun and yelled, “PENsei!” I was SO pleased with myself.
Second confession? Even though this was a Casey-centric episode, it wasn’t my absolute favorite. Don’t get me wrong, I still liked it, but the overall story wasn’t as exciting to me as all the little moments. So let’s explore those, shall we?

Despite the headline which may have many assuming a more scandalous story, the facts are not. Kelly Rutherford, who plays Lily van der Woodsen on GOSSIP GIRL, announced that she and her husband are expecting their second child in June.
We wish Kelly and her family well.
Ok on to the speculation – will Lily also be with child on the show? Another Bass baby or perhaps a Humphrey/van der Woodsen offspring. Could be exciting.

CALIFORNICATION: In Utero

I’m such a sucker for flashbacks! Last night’s episode of Californication gave us a great inside look at the beginnings of the Hank and Karen saga. The show always seems at its best when the writers anti up these small doses of our favorite characters younger years.
Last season’s 30 minute episode that followed the loss of Hank’s father and the reasons behind their dysfunctional relationship is still my favorite. The trip down memory lane also has a great way of grounding the often unrealistic world creator Tom Kapinos serves us every week. And so on with the highlights of this week’s episode as we return to the days of Kurt Cobain’s suicide and Karen’s black nail polish.
CAPRICA Gets a Series Pick-up

Good news for BATTLESTAR GALACTICA fans.
From THR.com
Sci Fi Channel has given a series pickup to “Caprica,” the prequel to the channel’s signature series “Battlestar Galactica.”
The project, which is set 50 years before the events in “Battlestar” on the home world of Caprica, hails from “Battlestar” masterminds Ronald D. Moore and David Eick.
“Caprica,” starring Eric Stoltz, Paula Malcomson, Esai Morales and Polly Walker.
Are you excited? I am. I’m glad BSG is going to live on. And I’m also excited for Eric Stoltz. Dude, Stoltz!
