BATTLESTAR GALACTICA Recap: The Oath

Gaeta is a douche. (And that poetic opening illustrated why I will never be a proper TV writer). But seriously, Gaeta is a douche.
In this chaotic yet wonderfully paced episode, mutiny ruled as Zarek and Geata seized power of Galactica. Rosalin gave up on fighting her cancer but ultimately came back swinging in the eleventh hour. Kara smooched Lee, and killed a few people. And Adama and Bill were left for dead. How’s that for an hour of TV? Nobody does it like BSG.
While watching this episode a favorite movie quote of mine kept running through my head. Indulge me while I quote some Sorkin here, but I think it holds true: “…in the absence of genuine leadership, [they’ll] listen to anyone who steps up to the microphone. They want leadership. They’re so thirsty for it they’ll crawl through the desert toward a mirage, and when they discover there’s no water, they’ll drink the sand.” And of course the counterpart to that is, “People don’t drink the sand because they’re thirsty. They drink the sand because they don’t know the difference.”
With Rosalin defeated and in seclusion, and the appearance of Adama siding with Cylons (who up until this point everyone was taught to hate as their mortal enemy), the people were left desperate and confused. The despair over the despondent Earth and a fractured leadership made way for an uprising based in fear and fueled by Zarek’s insatiable ego.
I found it fascinating that the writers could layout this story in such a way that we know who is in the right, but at the same time we can also empathize with those fueling the rebellion. As is the case in our present day world and much of our history, this uprising and fight is not really about what it appears to be on the surface. This is not about fighting against an alliance with the Cylons, this is about the hopelessness and fear of the people. Tom Zarek recognizes this fear and exploits it for personal and political gain. But when you to go to war you need an enemy, and for people aboard Galactica their enemy has always been the Cylons – and now that enemy also include Cylon sympathizers.

Zac Levi, Ryan Hansen & Jesse Spencer ‘Still Have My Heart’

Zachary Levi. Ryan Hansen. Jesse Spencer. What do these three guys have in common? Well to start, they are all incredibly easy on the eyes. All three have been on hit TV shows. And all three guys currently star in the new music video for Caitlin Crosby’s “Still Have My Heart”.
I stumbled across this video today and loved it!
Great use of the boys in the video, and a catchy little tune. (And Ryan Hansen…I love you!)
AMERICA’S BEST DANCE CREW Goes Britney Spears on Us
January 30, 2009 by Kath Skerry
Filed under #1 featured, America's Best Dance Crew
This week’s edition of AMERICA’S BEST DANCE CREW was all about Britney…Ms. Spears if you’re nasty. Each of the crews was given a classic Britney tune to choreograph against with the added twist of having to integrate a signature Britney move featured in her videos. It’s Britney, bitch.
Unlike last week when I thought all the crews really brought something special, this week I was only overly impressed by two crews: The Beat Freaks and Quest Crew.
The Beat Freaks, one of two all female crews, really pushed themselves to create a sexy routine that completely nailed the Britney challenge. To date The Beat Freaks have been known as tough and grimy B-Girls (a welcome change from other all girl crews of the past who have appeared more cheerleading squad than serious dance crew), but this week the ladies femm’d it up and put together a performance that was as tight as it was entertaining. The Beat Freaks were my favorite crew of the week.
Are you shocked that my boys of Quest Crew didn’t rank on top for me this week? Don’t be…they were a VERY close second. These guys are crazy! Their additional challenge this week was to perform blindfolded…what?! They could have easily accomplished their task by simply dancing with the blindfolds for a few seconds and be done with it, but nope…the Quest Crew, being amazing as usual, performed intricate tricks and crazy moves all without seeing. With their choreography, tricks and musicality, I really can’t see anther crew that can beat them in the end. I think these guys have owned it since day one. Am I being biased?

PG PORN: “Roadside Ass-sistance”

Want to know how far behind I am on TV and the such? Today is the first time I’ve checked out “Roadside Ass-sistance”, the latest installment in James Gunn’s dark and funny PG-PORN series. And much like “Nailing Your Wife” and “A Very Peanus Christmas”, this latest short left me laughing and feeling a little dirty.
As a long time follower of James Gunn’s MySpace blogs and Twitter updates, I’m used to his off-center sense of humor and always manage to find the funny within. This webseries isn’t for everyone. But try not to be too offended…it’s all in the name of fun…and porn.
(WARNING: This video is NSFW due to sexual suggestions and language…duh)
For those of you who are already fans, you’ll be happy to know that Spike.com has ordered an additional 11 episodes of the series which will be released once a month over the next 11 months. Congrats!
To date stars like Nathan Fillion, Michael Rosenbaum, Sean Gunn and even James Gunn himself have stared along the top porn stars (or so I’m told) in this series. But the question remains…what actor would YOU like to see in a future episode of PG PORN? (And before you even go there, let’s take John Krasinski off the list for many, many obvious reasons).

The official title of this episode is “Road to Hollywood”. But aren’t ALL of these auditions ep leading up to that? I love me some IDOL but three nights in a row? Talk about overkill. At least most of my shows are repeats tonight, because if not, IDOL would have lost out.

Are You Ready for THE AMAZING RACE 14?

Filed under #1 featured, The Amazing Race
Mark your calendars. Lace up them shoes. And get ready to run, because THE AMAZING RACE is back on February 15th for its 14th season and the producers are promising that it will be more exciting than ever!
According to CBS, this year’s teams will be faced with “a multitude of extremes, including the world’s second tallest bungee jump, bone-chilling Siberian temperatures followed by the suffocating heat of India, and an Olympic-sized challenge that leaves Teams gasping for air. For the first time in the history of the Race, Teams will travel to Romania and Siberia.”
Executive producer and co-creator of THE AMAZING RACE, Bertram van Muster, says, “Heading into our 14th season, I wanted to pull out all the stops. We have extreme climates, intense roadblocks and less time in airports, which adds up to an exhausting course for the Racers. Whether you’re a screen writer, a Harvard graduate, a jockey or a carpenter, this Race will test your stamina, your heart and your will to win.”
So do you want to meet the 11 teams competing for the $1M grand prize?
I’m automatically pulling for the hilarious Mike White and his Dad to win it all! Mike’s written hits such as “School of Rock” and “Nacho Libre” and he was a producers on “Freaks and Geeks”. PUSHING DAISIES fans might recognize him as Billy Balsam, brother of Dilly Balsam and co-owner of Balsam’s Bittersweets Taffy and Sweets Emporium. Goooo Mike..and his dad!!
Can someone else please be as excited as I am about the return of THE AMAZING RACE?! I love it!!
TV Buzz: Haven’t I Seen You Before? Edition – Veronica Mars, George Clooney and More…
January 28, 2009 by Kath Skerry
Filed under #1 featured, The Office, TV Buzz, TV News, Veronica Mars
From remakes of old shows both on the big screen and small, to once again stealing from the Brits, to the return of an oldie but hottie – todays’ TV buzz proves the adage “everything old is new again”. But the question remains, is it better the second time around?
Read on for buzz on THE A TEAM, VERONICA MARS, THE OFFICE, ABFAB, Clooney and more…
Who will be the B Team Taking Over for THE A TEAM?
Fox has announced the creative team that will be helming the upcoming movie version of THE A-TEAM. Joe Carnahan will direct while Tony & Ridley Scott will produce. Stephen J. Cannell, who was the creator of the TV series, is also on board as a producer. The script by Skip Woods is being worked on by Carnaham and Brian Bloom (as in ‘I get lost…in your eyes‘ Brian Bloom, sigh).
Those involved say that it’s important to them to not make this to cheesy as they want to hold true to the original series. But wasn’t the original A-TEAM just a little campy and cheesy to begin with? (Variety)
Are you ready for an A-TEAM movie? Can the magic of the TV show be captured on the big screen? Casting calls? Anyone come to mind that could play the legendary roles of John ‘Hannibal’ Smith, B.A. Baracus, Murdock, The Face?
Will VERONICA MARS PI Her Way to the Big Screen?
Speaking of the leap from the small screen to the big screen…I’ve been rather reticent about the rumors swirling around about the possible VERONICA MARS movie. I know everyone is all a flutter about it, but I’m not. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for seeing my VM friends again. I was very disappointed in the ending of the show and I would enjoy the chance to have some closure with Veronica, Logan and the rest. But I don’t really buy that it’s going to happen. Yes Joel Silver wants it done, and yes Rob Thomas said he is going to pen it, but do I see it happening? Nope. I don’t believe for one second that a studio would back and distribute a film that had horrible TV ratings on the lowest rated network. Why would they do that? I understand that this worked for “Firefly”/”Serenity”, but that was a show that had the full support of the Whedonverse. I just can’t see the same turnout for VERONICA MARS. I would love nothing more than to be wrong on this one. Make it happen. But until I see a release date I’m not going to let myself get overly excited about this one.
Would you like to see a VERONICA MARS movie? Who are the essential cast members that must return? Do you see this ever coming to life on the big screen?

Wednesday night TV is all kinds of awesome. It’s packed with good shows, but not over packed to the point its overwhelming. Of course I’m excited for LOST and DAMAGES, but I must admit that I’m way too excited to see the trainwreck that is sure to be A VERY DUGGAR WEDDING. It’s a repeat tonight which means I somehow missed it the first time around. How is this possible?! The Duggars throw a wedding? Josh and Anna finally kiss? Sex advice from father to son? It’s a fire den of creepiness…I can’t wait!!
May I ask…what are YOU watching?
Lost | 9pm on ABC
“Jughead”
Desmond looks for a woman who might be the key to helping Faraday stop the island’s unpredictable movements through time; Locke finds out who has been attacking the survivors. [GMMR: Expect another solid episode of LOST tonight. There is one particular ‘holy frak’ moment that I didn’t see coming that I can’t wait to get your take on. This particular moment seems to be a major reveal that has dictated and will dictate the fate of the Survivors, the Others as well as many others (small “o”). How’s that for ambiguous?]
Lie to Me | 9pm on Fox
“Moral Waiver”
A female soldier accuses a commanding officer of sexual assault; the team investigates a potential athletic bribe. [GMMR: Did you watch this show last week? Talk to me. Should I be watching?]
Damages | 10pm on FX
“Hey! Mr. Pibb!“
Patty works to clear Daniel in his wife’s murder; Ellen and Tom go to West Virginia to gather vital information in the case against Ultima National Resources. [GMMR: So excited for a new episode of DAMAGES. That is all.]
Life on Mars | 10pm on ABC
“Take a Look at the Lawmen”
A longtime rivalry between two precincts heats up when a bank robbery appears to have links to the Russian mafia; a young, attractive social worker catches Sam’s eye. [GMMR: Who knew? I thought this show had gone off the air.]
Also playing…
- American Idol | 8pm on Fox: Auditions continue.
- Law & Order | 10pm on NBC: The owner of a trucking company, Vic Russell, is found dead after a business meeting; detectives uncover information that leads them to believe that Russell had ties to the Russian mob.

THE OFFICE Super Bowl Episode is a Touchdown!!

UPDATE: Now that the episode has aired, if you would like to join in and discuss your thoughts on tonight’s episode, then check out the most recent post here: THE OFFICE Super Bowl Episode – Favorite Moments]
If you’re taking bets in your football pool on Super Bowl Sunday, put your money on THE OFFICE. It’s a sure thing.
I’ll be the first to admit that I haven’t been overwhelmed with this season of THE OFFICE. We’ve talked about this. At times I’ve felt that the show has had a hard time finding the funny. But in this episode the writers found the funny, faked a reverse, and then handed it off to the actors who took it into the end zone without ever looking back. Touchdown!! At the end of the hour I was doing my own victory dance.
With the post Super Bowl episode of a show attracting tens of millions of people, THE OFFICE is going to have a lot more eyes on Sunday. The biggest audience it’s ever had. And for those people new to our show, I think they’re going to have a good laugh at the expense of the Dunder Mifflinites. But it’s not the newbies that I want to talk to. No, it’s those of you who have been fans all along, some of us from the very first episode. What can I say to YOU that will let you know how much I enjoyed this episode?! Well, here it goes….the Super Bowl episode of THE OFFICE felt like something we would have seen in Season 2. How’s that? Are you picking up what I’m putting down people? I liked it…I really liked it!!
