Turning GMMR Over to YOU Because I’m Outta Here!

January 23, 2009 by

Hey guys, I know Fridays are a fantastic day to talk about TV, and it pains me to abandon you, but I’m gonna have to turn GMMR over to YOU today. I’m making a last minute dash to sunny L.A. and I won’t be around to bloggity blog about Thursday night TV. It’s killing me.  But come on, you guys don’t need me, right?  I fully trust you can take on each of the Thursday night shows without me, right?

If you’re game, here’s what I’m thinking.  If you’re so inclined why don’t you submit YOUR review of your favorite Thursday night show in the comments and let others read what YOU have to say about it.  Write a recap, share your favorite moments, whatever compels you.

Any show is up for discussion but do know that at some point Kari will be posting her take on 30 ROCK; Seeleybaby will be talking BONES; and Nicole will be sharing her thoughts on SUPERNATURAL…so you might want to wait for those posts before you start commenting away on those particular shows.

But even taking those three shows out of the mix there is plenty to talk about.  Need a kick start?  Alright…

Ugly Betty: I’ve maintained that the show is becoming too repetitive in its storytelling and acting.  The things that made UGLY BETTY such a stand out show aren’t working anymore because everything has a hint of ‘been there, done that’.  Am I right?  Do you disagree? Talk to me on how BETTY is doing this season as well as your take on last night’s episode.

The Office: I can’t tell you how often I get emails from readers asking if they can do recaps of THE OFFICE.  Well, now’s your turn.  Dissect last night’s episode.  Was it HOT or NOT?  And by hot I mean did you want to bang it? Of course I expect every reviewer to weigh in on the Hilary Swank issue.  We need to see where the people are at! Here’s one more thing to perhaps discuss.  Did anyone else find it odd that there was nothing on the Andy/Angela/Dwight situation this week?  Hmmm.  Ok, I’m done.  You’re turn.

Grey’s Anatomy: Oy vey! This week’s episode actually made me angry.  TR Knight, rent a jet pack if it will help you get off that show sooner.  I may have faulted you at first Mr. Knight, but now I full support your wanting to bolt.  The only other thing I ask is that you take Chandra Wilson with you…she’s so much better than this show.  If you want my full take on tonight’s GREY’S, then check out the latest TV Talk Podcast.  Dan and I saw the episode early so we were able to share our thoughts.  But weigh in on what worked and what didn’t (and by what didn’t work, I’m not talking about Sloan’s penis).

America’s Best Dance Crew: My Quest Crew brought it again this week.  I thought their performance was hot and the choreography so imaginative. Can someone tell me if that slow-mo turn was for real?  It was so well done I couldn’t tell if they got help from the camera or what?! Crazy!! They are still my favorite crew, but Strikers All Stars killed it last night.  That full crew monkey roll got a few replays on the DVR last night.  Even the cloggers stepped it up.  What crews are getting your vote this week?

All the other shows: My Name is Earl, CSI, Kath & Kim, the season premiere of Burn Notice, ER, Smallville, Eleventh Hour

The blog is yours…make me proud!!

Hope you’re not coming to LA for the sun. It is supposed to rain for the next 5 days.

    Hillary Swank is HOT!
Even if I were not already a fan of the actress I would have to fall down on the side of Jim, Pam, Micheal, and others after watching last night’s The Office because really, who can disagree with John Krasinski asking in a low whisper to make out with you?
Though not as dynamic and on-the-ball as last week’s The Duel, last night’s episode struck me as simply a classic episode. It highlighted each character perfectly, showcasing each personality so well that it almost felt like it was an outsiders guide of some sort for those New to The Office: after watching Kevin’s fevered definition of the word “hot”, Kelly’s breakdown about her own self-image, Oscar’s analytical arguments, and Angela’s disgusted resignation with the entire thing you really are able to (once again) fall in love with these characters for who they are, dysfunction and all. The Micheal-Dwight (Scarn! Micheal Scarn! From superagent to attorney–pure Office perfection) sleuthing was also a really classic, back-to-the-basics scenario. I also liked the fact that I really didn’t know if Micheal or Dwight would prevail in the Moral Issue of the Week.
There were, however, some problems with this episode for me. The lack of Jim/Pam ANYTHING (more than the subtleties which you really have to watch to catch) for the last few episodes has been disappointing. I miss them. Jim taking charge of the pro-hotness camp made sense, as did Pam’s agreement, but I find myself really really missing the way their relationship was layered into just the existence of Dunder Mifflin life in past seasons. It feels almost as if just because they’re engaged, there’s nothing else to work out in their story which i find difficult to believe. As for the lack of Dwight/Angela/Andy action (and you can take my phrasing of that any way you’d like to): I kind of expected it, and I thought it worked. There were some nice subtle shots of Andy/Angela awkwardness that were there if you looked for them, and I think it made lots of sense for Angela, at least, given her personality to just try and pretend nothing had happened. Andy I think will blow up in later episodes, but given the fact that he HAS had his Anger Management Therapy I think it will take a few episodes to get there 🙂
On the whole I did enjoy last night’s episodes (there were several laugh-out-loud moments) and I’m looking forward to watching it again. And again. And again and again and again…

I am inclined to say Hilary Swank is not hot. That stroyline amused me mostly because I can see it starting as a debate between the writers in the room and then becoming a plot. The rest of the episode was pretty solid. Not as funny as last week, but better than most this season. Michael and Dwight debating IHOP was the greatest! “You will have pancakes and you will like it!” haha! I am glad there was no focus on Dwight/Angela/Andy. It was nice to have a break from all of that. I also have a feeling that the show is gearing up for some pretty heavy Jim/Pam storylines, so I am fine with the lack of focus on them. I loved Jenna Fischer’s loud scream at the end of the tag!

I did enjoy your recap P.D. 🙂 And I will be the first to say that Mr. Krasinski can try and convince me that Hilary Swank is hot anytime…that whispering…hot damn. (I do think she is hot anyways.) Now in a debate of IHOP vs. Denny’s I will go IHOP everytime.

    I liked Greys last night!

THE OFFICE: Loved it. Didn’t move the storylines ahead at all, but was so funny. John Krasinski cracking up during Stanley’s speech was hilarious. Loved Michael running around with Dwight chasing…and the lip licking scene was totally creepy and funny. I have never said this before…but…can’t wait for Superbowl Sunday!

GREYS: Really liked it, felt like the old Greys. Is Izzy sick mentally or physically? My guess is a brain tumor, which could make her hallucinate and justify the insanity of the Denny storyline. Very sad episode – loved the moment between Derek & Meredith at the end outside the jail…and then Meredith & Cristina was good too.

Still have to watch 30 ROCK and PRIVATE PRACTICE. I am loving Private Practice, can’t wait to watch it. And the preview for the Grey’s/PP upcoming episode looks very cool.

The Office; I thought this episode was descent. I agree with some people that I wanted to see more Jim and Pam interaction. The Hilary Swank storyline was kind of funny, but nothing to write home about. I have high expectations for the Office, so I really hope they deliver in the next couple of weeks. The Michael and Dwight storyline was dam(n) near perfect. I agree with P.D. Yerf about the episode “showcasing each personality so well that it almost felt like it was an outsiders guide of some sort for those new to The Office”. I understand that they are gearing up for the Superbowl episode to entice more viewers, but it woud be nice if they developed the characters a little more for the diehard fans. I know that would be hard (twss) because there are so many characters. Again, I have high expectations. This is my favorite show on television, even though it is past it’s prime, it will always have a special place in my heart (corny I know).

Solid episode of the office. Very dark humor involving the prince family and i loved it. I felt so bad for Prince Family Paper.

I love it when Dwight acts. His fake job interview was hilarious.

Hillary Swank is hot. Mostly because of her body. Face is pretty average.
