BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: Sometimes a Great Notion – The Final Cylon Revealed

That fizzing sound you hear might be the sound of my brain trying to figure just what happened during last night’s season premiere of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. So much to take in, and for me, so many more questions.
If you haven’t seen last night’s episode, I’d stop reading right about now because we are going to be talking about some big time stuff. Go watch and come back later to chat. (The entire episode including full commentary with Ron Moore is available on SciFi.com’s Sci Fi Rewind. After I post this I’m going to watch the ep with the commentary and probably find out just how off base I am about my take on the episode).
As for those of you who have seen it, can we please discuss what the frak happened?
The Holocaust that obliterated Earth over 2,000 years ago completely wiped out the human race that inhabited Earth. But hold the phone. Last night it was revealed that the founders of the 13th colony weren’t human, but rather Cylon. Say what?!

Updated: A brand new, official trailer has just been released. Check it out:
Here’s a FIRST look at BRIEF INTERVIEWS WITH HIDEOUS MEN, the new movie written and directed by John Krasinski. I’m not sure if the following qualifies as a trailer or a set of scenes, but it’s definitely the first I’ve seen of the movie.
The movie premieres at Sundance this week. I’m nervous and excited for John and wish him nothing but the best!
So excited to be able to share this!

SUPERNATURAL: Family Remains
January 16, 2009 by Nicole

This was an entertaining enough stand-alone episode but it’s not one that I think I’ll be watching much when I ultimately get the season four DVD set. As shocking/gross (in a good way) as it was, I didn’t really connect with it overall. I’ve been trying to put my finger on what my problem with it was, and I think it’s that we didn’t get much in the way of character development or a sense of moving the story forward at all. Not to say that every episode has to feature Castiel or epic revelations, but there wasn’t much interaction between the brothers – the focus was very much on the family at the center of the drama of the week. It sort of had that feeling you’d get when you’re watching your favourite sitcom and realize the whole episode is about the neighbour or coach and you realize you’re being acquainted with the new people because they are about to be spun off into their own show. Since I’m pretty sure we won’t be watching Family Remains: The Series next year, I’m not sure why the show took this turn.
That being said, they weren’t lazy with the twists and turns at all. Just when I thought my jaw had dropped as low as it could, another twist and/or disturbing visual would cause it to go down another notch. As deep as my love is for Supernatural, it doesn’t often have the intended effect of scaring the crap out of me, like a lot of people who watch the show. However, tonight they didn’t play fair – first they featured a scene with the urban legend that scared me most as a kid and then there was the ghost-that-wasn’t-a-ghost and her rat-eating, murderous ways.
30 ROCK: Flu Shot

Holy smokes! Did you know they just added “St. Elmo’s Fire” to Hulu? [GMMR: I did notice this morning and I had the same jubilant reaction]. Sadly but truly, this news excited me far more than last night’s new episode of “30 ROCK.”
Where to start? Kenneth’s escalating death throes were a highlight, amidst the ever-growing parade of flu zombies, especially when we see him in the background while Tracy and Jenna are talking soup, and he’s busy licking the inside of his mouth. But Liz has grappled with her “elite” insecurity and guilt before, with much better results (“The ‘C’ Word” comes to mind), and Tracy and Jenna’s double-teaming flat-lined halfway through. Worst of all, though, Jack’s new romance with Elisa generated what just might be my most unfavorite line ever: “I live in the Big Apple, but I spend all my time with a Big Vegetable.” Yikes. But the “Mr. Templeton” date montage was my one real joy: “Mr. Templeton, why should he stay at home? Just get his medication…”
America’s Best Dance Crew…It’s On

A certain someone has been trying to get me to watch AMERICA’S BEST DANCE CREW since it first premiered. I was hesitant. I am so die hard about SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE that I didn’t think it was possible for me to take on another dance competition, none the less love another one. But when I heard that a few SYTYCD alums were now on ABDC I decided to check it out.
To this person who has been pleading with me to watch (yes you with the fancy kicks) – I watched. I loved. I’m hooked. You have done YOUR JOB.
For all of you SYTYCD fans out there, you MUST watch ABDC. You’re going to love it. And not just because Shane Sparks is a judge, or that one of the sickest crews just happens to feature SYTYCDancers Ryan (Season 1), Dom (Season 3) and Hok (Season 3), but because there is some serious talent taking to the stage.
As for the dance crews that performed last night. Some were really tight and others a bit sloppy. The Quest Crew (featuring the SYTYCD) were by FAR my favorite. Their dancing was so inventive and tight that I can see them going all the way.
Check out Quest Crew’s performance…
I also thought Beat Freaks (the first of the two all girl dance crews) were insanely good. The judges seemed crazy about The Ringmasters, with all their crazy freaky broke bone moves. I thought they were awesome to watch, but I wanted to see a little less tricks and a little more dancing out of them. Dynamic Edition (the cloggers) were great at the clogging, but terrible at the Hip Hop. They aren’t going to last long, but I’m glad they made it this far because it’s pretty awesome to watch. As for the rest, yeah they didn’t make a huge impression on me.
THE OFFICE: The Duel

Welcome back Dunder Mifflinites. It was a beautiful thing to hear THE OFFICE theme song last night, wasn’t it? It’s been so long. I missed my fictional office friends (and boyfriend). I laughed a lot last night and I hope you did too. I thought last night’s episode, while not perfect, was clever and smart. And Jim Halpert holding all those weapons? Weirdly sexy. Hey, it’s been a while since I’ve seen him…give a girl a break.
With the amount of TV on last night, I was only able to watch the episode once. And as we all know, watching an episode of THE OFFICE just once is like only half watching it. But I trust if I share my initial thoughts and favorite moments that you’ll all jump in and fill in the rest.
So just what went down (that’s what…too easy)?
Bruce Campbell Talks Season 3 of BURN NOTICE
January 16, 2009 by Kath Skerry

Legendary actor Bruce Campbell is getting ready for his third season as somewhat corrupt but loveable Sam Axe. Bruce recently sat down with a number of online outlets to discuss season 3 of BURN NOTICE which premieres on USA on Thursday, January 22nd.
Fans of BURN NOTICE and Bruce Campbell will enjoy hearing from the man.
How much creative input do you have with your character for the show?
Bruce Campbell: Well, every situation is different and Burn Notice is very structured. Matt Nix, it’s his show, it’s his concept, it’s his idea. So when I came on board, I’m going to give smaller stuff. You know, I might ad lib some stupid joke at the end of a scene or whatever. Or I might suggest a tone of maybe treat Michael’s mother more gently at some point. So it’s really for me mostly smaller stuff; the captain of the ship is Matt Nix and he’s also allowing us to think through scenes and if we want to throw in a line or so, he doesn’t have a problem with that. But I never show up on a set going, “Man, I got to ad lib today.”
Are you at all surprised about how successful the show has been?
B. Campbell: I’m surprised by everything these days because you never know. My basis for accepting this script when it came across my desk was I loved the fact of what it wasn’t. It wasn’t a cop show, it wasn’t a doctor’s show, it wasn’t a lawyer show. There’s plenty of stuff that goes on, but this is basically the human side of spies and I went, right, I can get into that. And I really enjoyed the fact that it’s a good blend of a show that does have strong main characters, and not a lot of them. It’s got four main characters. And that’s what the emphasis is. And oh yes, stuff blows up and every week there is a caper where you defeat the jerk of the week. But I think it’s mostly you watch these characters from week to week, and that’s what I enjoy. And that’s what appealed to me and that’s what keeps me interested in the show is it’s not really about the explosions, it’s about the people who are doing the explosions.
Sneak Peek at the Premiere of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS

[REPOSTING from January 12th]
Cancel your plans this Friday night. The NBC season premiere of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS is this Friday, January 16th at 9pm and you don’t want to miss it.
In me personal opinion, FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS is the best drama on TV today. It doesn’t get the awards of recognitions outside of the voice of the critics and the love from its dedicated fans, but FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS is the real deal. A beautiful, funny and important television show, the likes of which can’t be found anywhere else on television today.
I’ve been fortunate enough to have seen all of this season of FNL and I can say for certain that it doesn’t falter. Not once. Take note of the 13 episodes you will see this season because I’m not sure a show like this will come around again anytime soon.
For those of you who need a little FNL fix and just can’t wait until Friday’s premiere, here is an extended sneak preview of the premiere episode. The clip, which runs just over 14 minutes, isn’t the first minutes of the show but rather a montage of scenes from the episode. A lot is covered so please only watch it you are prepared to be spoiled.
Enjoy!
If you have never seen FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS you can start watching this Friday without issue. You’ll be compelled to watch the first two seasons, but you need not have watched them to fully enjoy this third season.
For all of you that are already fans then please do what you can to become an evangelist for the show. A fourth season doesn’t seem likely, but it doesn’t stand a chance without our support. Spread the word and show the love.
If you are planning on watching FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS for the first time tonight, give us all a heads up. We’d like to formally welcome you to the team!

I’ve heard from many of you that you really enjoy our daily ‘TV Spotlight’ post. But I’ll be honest with you, I feel like this post is just too small to properly express my excitement for tonight’s TV. We’ve got a one-two punch on awesomeness tonight that is making me giddy with excitement.
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS premieres on NBC. And coming from a die hard fan who just finished watching the third season finale last night, I can honestly say that you won’t be disappointed by a nano second of this season. I can’t wait to watch it all over again with you.
And then we have the premiere of the final season of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. Are you kidding me? It’s finally frakking here! I’ll be honest, BSG intimidates me a little bit. I feel like there are so many passionate fans out there that I’m almost afraid to talk abot it or analyze it as there’s a good chance I’ll mess something up. But that doesn’t mean I won’t enjoy every last bit of it.

Exclusive Interview with DC Comic and SMALLVILLE Scribe Geoff Johns
January 15, 2009 by Sarah Luoma
Filed under #1 featured, Posts by Sarah, Smallville
Hey GMMR readers! Sarah here and I wanted to share with you my recent interview with DC comic book writer, Geoff Johns! Geoff, who has been in the biz for years and is quite a superhero himself, penned the script for the Legion episode that will air tonight on Smallville.
He was nothing but nice, and a very down to earth guy! Where he finds the time to work on all of these projects I’ll never know. And because there isn’t enough hours in the day to list all of Geoff’s work you can check them out at www.geoffjohns.com. Don’t forget the Legion hits the small screen tonight on the CW at 8pm!
How did you end writing the Legion script for Smallville?
Geoff Johns: I work in comic books most primarily and I worked with Jeff Loeb who was a writer on the show a couple of years back. One day I was talking to him about an idea I had for a Legion episode for Smallville and I thought it would be really cool, why don’t they do it (this was earlier last year) and he said that’s a really good idea. Then he mentioned it to the producers at Smallville who I had already known. They were interested in hearing the idea and they wanted to know more about it, they wanted me to write something for them. So I had lunch with Todd, Darren, Kelly and Brian and we discussed what the Legion would mean to Clark and what it would mean to Clark in Smallville terms. What kind of episode you would get out of it and they really seemed to respond to it. Next thing you know I was in the writer’s room and we were breaking the story.
It’s Back to Work for THE OFFICE

THE OFFICE is back tonight. I feel like I should be doing a jig or some other kind of dance that properly expresses my joy. It’s been a loooong time since we’ve had a new episode and I don’t know about you but I’m ready to see what 2009 has in store for our friends at Dunder Mifflin.
To celebrate I thought I would dedicate a whole post to all things THE OFFICE. A throwback to the old OFFICE Thursdays on GMMR.
Tonight on THE OFFICE…
“The Duel”: The office is on eggshells because Andy still hasn’t found out about fiancee Angela’s affair with Dwight. When Michael spills the beans, Dwight and Andy take matters into their own hands. Meanwhile, Michael is nervous about being called down to corporate for a meeting with Wallace.
Some Casting News…
Thesp Idris Elba has been cast on “The Office” as a new rival to Dunder Mifflin regional manager Michael Scott (Steve Carell).
Elba, most recently seen in Guy Ritchie’s “Rocknrolla,” will appear in six episodes later this season. Details are slim on his plot line, other than he’ll play a no-nonsense hire at Dunder Mifflin’s corporate office who will throw Michael Scott into turmoil. (Variety)
ET Goes Behind-the-Scenes of THE OFFICE
ET talks to some of the cast about what’s in store for their characters. Do Jenna and John think Jim and Pam will ever make it to the alter? How does Angela view Andy vs. Dwight. And some of the cast does a little singing along the way.
