Who Made it Through on AMERICAN IDOL?

PREVIOUS POST:

No one can waste time like AMERICAN IDOL. An hour of filler to announce the three contestants moving on to the Top 12. Lucky for all of us they used that time wisely and gave us a over the top, cheesy, poorly performed dance number.  Awesome.  I have to wonder if they IDOL producers ever watch the shows.  Don’t they know how bad it looks? Yikes.

After much yammering Seacrest finally gets around to bringing the contestants down to the main stage.  For three of them tonight is about moving one step closer to the dream. For the other nine it’s the end of the road…well, at least this particular road.

To mix things up a bit (and by that I mean to waste time), half way through the results we were treated to an encore performance of “The Letter” by former Top 12ers Carly Smithson & Michael Johns.  Both are fantastic and should have gone further in their seasons. All due respect to David Archuleta, I think the finals should have been Cook vs. Johns. [GMMR ducks and hides as the Archie fans pelt her with tomatoes.]

The first three contestants through to the Top 12 of Season 8 are…

(find out…after the break) [/Seacrest]

Alexis Grace, Michael Sarver, and Danny Gokey

I think the big shocker was Michael Sarver being the third highest vote getter. It came down to him and Anoop.  I thought the third spot would have been between Anoop and Ricky Braddy.  I don’t think Michael performed well enough to make it through.  And he sounded perhaps worse tonight.  But clearly the voters knew who they wanted.  Congrats to Alexis, Michael and Danny.

Did your favorites make it through? Are you going to miss Tatiana?  What’s the over/under on her posing in Playboy within the next 18 months?

I agree and blame the producers’ obvious love for Michael’s story and their lack of coverage of Ricky Braddy (who is CLEARLY more talented.) Oh well…we still have the wildcard round for Ricky and Anoop.

On the superficial side of Idol (as if there is another side), I liked Danny’s red glasses better than the clear ones tonight.

How are the wildcard spots working? And any chance of Anoop getting through on that, or is he totally done for good?

I don’t know the details of how the wild card round will work, but if I remember correctly, back in S2 there were four contestants in the wild card round. Simon got to choose someone, as did Paula and Randy. The fourth contestant was based on America’s votes. All competed and them America decided who made it through. In Season 2 America’s choice for the WC round was Clay Aiken.

    Did I get that right?

They really need to get rid of the group songs pronto! Thank goodness I DVR’d it and was able to fast forward while they butchered a great song by my favorite artist.

yup GMMR, that’s how the wildcard round worked back in season 2…i’m actually glad they brought it back! i think the judges and producers pick the wildcards. i kinda like how this way the judges get direct picks in the top 12

also, yes….the america’s vote in S2 was clay aiken

I like Michael. Yes, he doesn’t have the best voice, but he’s so gosh darn likable! Anoop does need to go on to the wild card round, though his song choice sucked last night. I was sooo holding my breath with Tatiana and Danny’s decision. I was going to have to boycott if Tatiana made it through!!!

There is no one that disliked Tata any more than I did and glad to see her go but even I thought it was pretty mean for the cameras to chase her around to watch her cry. Didn’t get third choice Michael but I live in the Northeast where country music is not popular, I mean really not popular.

In terms of the wild cards this year, EW.com’s Michael Slezak said in the recap of last night’s show that the Wild Card Show was going to be March 5th, and the first performance show for the Top 12 would be March 10th. With March 5th being a THURSDAY, it’s very unlikely that America will get to choose ANY of the wild card spots. I call BULLS&*T on that. I thought Ricky was the best singer, male or female, this week and he is the victim of the producers’ editing of the audition rounds. I’ve never been a fan of the current format, and AI’s lazy, incompetent new producers are accomplishing nothing but destroying my love for this show.

I think Anoop is the best guy singer to ever be on the show and he gives me chills when he sings

Well if Anoop doesn’t make it through on the wildcard show, I don’t think I’ll continue watching AI this season. He’s really the only one I care about.

I don’t get the Danny hype. It’s obvious he’s the producers choice with all the face time he’s gotten, but I think there are more talented contestants.

i am really sad about anoop not going through. as for michael- if he is going to be on the show, he needs to go country because that’s the only group he would actually be successful in… i am not a fan of his though. it’s too bad about ricky, if he would have had more exposure he probably would have gotten through. my vote is still for danny, i love him… not because of his story, but because he DOES have talent and knows what to do.

i am thinking they will choose one person per group for the wild card round… but who knows, it is so different and it’s confusing!

I was happy with the three that made it through from this group. (I still dislike the groups deal… let ’em all sing – broken up into different nights of course – and then just take the top 12). I think there was a lot of talent in this group that would’ve made it through had they been up against other people, I’m looking at you Anoop and Ricky Braddy.

I don’t mind Michael, and as long as he sticks to Texas/Country sound a little more I think he’ll be ok for awhile. He has to find a way to make the different theme nights work FOR him instead of trying to make his voice fit those themes.
