Welcome to the DOLLHOUSE

It’s finally here. The long awaited premiere of Joss Whedon’s DOLLHOUSE. Are you ready?
I’m going to go ahead and encourage and every one of you reading this to check out tonight’s premiere of DOLLHOUSE (9pm on Fox). It’s definitely worth a first look and I think it will be in your best interest to plan on giving this show a few weeks before you make a decision on whether or not you’re going to stick with it for the long run. This is Joss Whedon – give the guy a shot to get his legs under him. He deserves the benefit of the doubt. I don’t think we’ll be disappointed.
Nothing like a little doom and gloom to begin a review, right? I’m telling you this because while I enjoyed the DOLLHOUSE pilot I wasn’t blown out of the water. I think my expectations were properly set. When the first reviews started coming out I had heard the same thing – it’s good, not great, but good. I know that everyone has a different opinion and a different way of viewing things, but my expectations] were so high that personally it was good to hear these reviews if for no other reason than to ground me a little. And after watching the first episode, I’m going to go ahead and agree with the majority of what I read. Good, not great. But (and this is a very important but), I do believe that DOLLHOUSE has the potential to be great. And that’s a lot more than what I can say for most new TV shows.
The premise of DOLLHOUSE is fascinating to me. The story follows Echo, a woman whose mind and personality has been wiped clean by an illegal organization that caters to the rich and powerful. With each new client, Echo and the other “dolls” living in The Dollhouse, are implanted with the memories, personality and know with all to essentially become whomever the client dictates. One day they are an assassin, the next day a lover – they are whatever money can buy.
But when Echo starts to become cognizant of her memories, The Dollhouse is at risk. Can Echo be kept in the dark or will she be the one to expose the organization for what it is?
30 ROCK: St. Valentine’s Day

Filed under #1 featured, 30 Rock, Posts by Kari
It’s a little tough to tell Valentine’s Day apart from April Fool’s Day on 30 ROCK, huh? So it’s only natural that Liz would forget Saturday is Vday, since what single person wants to be reminded of that? Only the crazies. And that Jack would be stuck accompanying Elisa to church for “the feast of the martyrdom of St. Valentine” instead of stuffing them both full of a horrible-sounding $1,000 dessert at the equally horrible-sounding Plunder. And that Kenneth would end up playing a mute Christian to Tracy’s hillbilly Cyrano on a “Valentine’s dately-do” with a pretty blind girl, only to lose her to his own face in the end. So much love! So many fools!
Our own Liz Lemon comes out lucky in love for once, although I’m not sure a first date in which you accidentally expose both a boob and yourself on the can would be considered all that lucky anywhere but in Lemonland. Still, everything unfolds pretty much as you would expect, as a pyromaniac wino daughter, an unfortunate pot of stew, and a batch of burning brownies take Liz and Drew all the way to Date 20 in a single night (with a sad detour to Liz’s Date Never, toilet-wise). And this is before she gets sucked into tagging along to Drew’s mother’s deathbed, where she learns that his mother is actually his grandmother and his sister is actually his mother. Which actually makes Drew sound a lot like Kenneth. But nobody’s perfect, and at least he’s not a serial killer. Right?
GREY’S ANATOMY & PRIVATE PRACTICE: The Best of Both Worlds

Done and done. Shonda Rhomes has finally figured out to make both GREY’S ANATOMY and PRIVATE PRACTICE worth our time…just combine the two shows. I’m talking every week. On their own, neither show has been great, but last night’s crossover episodes were fun, frenetic, dramatic and worthy of my time. Now how can we convince TPTB to make this a permanent move?
It’s amazing how much more of an interesting character Addison becomes simply by walking through the doors of Seattle Grace. In L.A. she walks around waiting for her life to begin. Her biggest worries and woes stem from her issues with men. But back in Seattle we are all reminded that she is a world class surgeon – perhaps the best in her field. A talent that is wasted tolling away in that small doctor’s office. The Addison we saw last night was the Addison I thought would be the anchor of PRIVATE PRACTICE. It reminded me why I liked her to begin with.
The crossover also allowed for some really fun moments, and the fun has been missing from both shows for quite some time. There was dancing and boozing (because it was GREY’S and and they love their dancing, but they really love their booze), and trips down memory lane. There were stolen glances and “what if” moments that were based in fond remembrance rather than a brooding foreshadowing.
Some of the onscreen pairings were just electric. Chandra Wilson and Taye Diggs played off each other so well that I was left disappointed that we didn’t get to see them more. And was that a little flirty Baily that I saw? I think so.
THE OFFICE: Lecture Circuit (Part II)

I’ve got a chainsaw, some mini Snickers and I know my movie quotes. Kids, I’m giving up the blog to hit the lecture circuit. Hell, if Michael Scott can do it than so can I. Then again, Michael Scott has been a bit of a train wreck, hasn’t he? Isn’t he always?
Tonight’s conclusion to “Lecture Circuit” didn’t have me on the floor as much as some moments from last week’s episode, but I was laughing…and crying and cringing and wanting to be Kelly Kapoor (and lusting after Jim Halpert) – all the elements that make up a great episode of THE OFFICE.
Bravo to Jenna Fischer who carried most of the episode on her back. Fancy New Beesly knows how to handle Michael Scott better than anyone else and she is the only reason he kept it together in Nashua. And seeing that he didn’t really hold it together all that well, I can’t help but imagine what he would have done if Pam weren’t there. But Pam could not have been more adorable. Seriously, I wanted to shoot her, stuff her and put her of my shelf. Adorable!

Welcome to Thursday, which is like the Monday night of TV, which used to be Thursday and still kind of is, but not really because Monday is the new Thursday. Bottom line? You’ve got a lot of choices tonight.
Survivor: Tocantins | 8pm on CBS | Season Premiere
“Let’s Get Rid of the Weak Players Before We Even Start”
The castaways are surprised to learn that they must take a preliminary vote based solely on first impressions, before starting the grueling first challenge. [GMMR: Let us know if you will be watching SURVIVOR this season. Is this something we should be covering on the site?]
Ugly Betty | 8pm on ABC
“The Courtship of Betty’s Father”
Betty’s video tribute for Claire Meade’s birthday is more revealing than she had planned; Daniel and Wilhelmina have trouble adjusting to the new significant others in their lives. [GMMR: I feel like I haven’t watched this show in ages. But I heard Mark and Amanda are shacking up, so I’m definitely watching this week.]
The Office | 9pm on NBC
“Lecture Circuit (Part II)”
Michael and Pam continue their branch tour; Jim and Dwight try to fulfill their party planning duties; Angela’s new cat causes a commotion. [GMMR: I know way deep down that Amy Ryan won’t be guesting tonight, but there’s a deeper part of me that hopes Greg Daniels & co pull off a big surprise.]
Grey’s Anatomy | 9pm on ABC
“Before & After”
Addison, Naomi and Sam rush Archer to Seattle Grace, where they reunite with old friends in hope of saving his life; Izzie devises a medical game to teach the interns; Owen runs into someone significant from his past.
30 Rock | 9:30pm on NBC
“St. Valentine’s Day”
Not realizing it’s going to be a holiday, Liz insists she and Drew have their first official date on Valentine’s Day; Kenneth tries to win the affections of a new staffer.
Private Practice | 10pm on ABC
“Ex-Life”
Derek asks Addison to work with his pregnant patient while Archer recuperates from surgery; Bailey and Naomi work together to find the cause of Sam’s sudden asthma attack; Cooper, Violet and Pete treat a woman with postpartum depression.
America’s Best Dance Crew | 10pm on MTV
The five remaining crews (Quest, Strikers All Stars, Beat Freaks, The Fly Khicks, and Dynamic Edition) incorporate magical illusions into their routines. [GMMR: This has potential to be a sick night of dance. I can’t wait to see what they bring to the stage.]
Burn Notice | 10pm on USA
“Bad Breaks”
A federal agent with a knack for giving Michael trouble returns to Miami to force Michael to hand over blackmail materials; the two enemies must work together during a bank robbery.
ER | 10pm on NBC
“The Family Man”
A car accident in the ambulance bay severely injures a mother; an insurance company frustrates Morris; Neela tells Brenner about her offer in North Carolina.

- Kath & Kim | 8:30pm on NBC: Kath asks Athena (Maya Rudolph) for spiritual guidance before auditioning for a community production of “Cats”; Kim gets a job at Phil’s sandwich shop.
- CSI | 9pm on CBS: The team investigates a murder at a fast-food restaurant but discovers that much of the evidence is covered in cooking oil.
- Eleventh Hour | 10pm on CBS: Hood suspects that his nemesis (Kate Burton) has returned when he is called upon to investigate a string of stem-cell thefts, which appears to indicate a cloning project.
Lots and lots to choose from. What will YOU be watching?
PRIVILEGED: All About Betrayal
February 12, 2009 by Nicole
Filed under #1 featured, Posts by Nicole, Privileged
Hey Privileged fans – sorry this is a day late. When I sat down to watch it on the pvr the channel had become distorted – all pixilated and totally unwatchable. Has this ever happened to you guys? So annoying. [GMMR: Yes, that’s the same exact problem I’ve been having with my CW-HD channel as of late. So weird.] Anyhow, I managed to watch it last night, so here we go…
Poor Rose. She is clearly the one who most fit the “betrayed” category in Tuesday’s episode, to the point where she felt she couldn’t trust anyone anymore, and who could blame her? She was let down by almost everyone she’s closest with and found out she had a grandfather she didn’t know about just as he was dying. We also got an answer as to why Sage felt responsible for her parent’s death and as we all assumed it was not that she deliberately did anything, but rather because she inadvertently kept her mother on the phone causing them to miss their plane and catch the next one. While this is obviously not something that anyone could blame her for, it is easy to understand how Sage would carry guilt around for all those years.
Myles has passed away, but obviously this can’t be the end of the situation. I’m guessing that we’re in for a legal battle with Myles’ daughter (the basis of the suit is pretty weak – although that could just be the lawyer in me; on tv anything is possible). Anyhow Rose and Sage have forgiven and forgotten, and Rose has decided to show people that she’s strong and can take care of herself, so she’s moving out of the twins’ room into her own. How she could want to leave that room with the gorgeous wallpaper and bedspreads (I am fixated on the décor, sorry) is beyond me, but I’m sure the blue room down the hall will be just as beautiful. One last point about this storyline: the tearjerker moment for me was totally when Sage and Lauren were talking and Sage said she was sorry for all of the loss Lauren’s experienced in her life. Was that a beautiful moment or what?
Joaquin Phoenix’s Bizarre Appearance on David Letterman
February 12, 2009 by Kath Skerry
Filed under #1 featured, Talk Show Appearances
Did anyone happen to catch Joaquin Phoenix on Letterman last night? Someone needs an intervention. Phoenix was despondent and just plain out of it during the entire interview. Things got even more awkward and uncomfortable as the tension between Joaquin and David rose throughout the interview.
Joaquin talked about quitting the acting business to pursue his career as a rapper. There’s been some rumblings that this whole rapper thing is just a farce which is secretly being filmed for a documentary. But Joaquin insists he’s the real deal. Even Diddy backed him up last week about the rapping gig (which actually makes me believe that this is all a joke).
Allegedly family and friends of Joaquin have stated that his bizarre behavior as of late has more to do with his emerging substance abuse issue. Which if true is very sad, and even more so when you consider that Joaquin’s brother River was the victim of drug abuse himself.
Whether this was all an act or if Joaquin is just that big of an asshat, I defy you not to squirm while watching.
Joanna Pacitti Out on AMERICAN IDOL…Why?
February 12, 2009 by Kath Skerry
Filed under #1 featured, American Idol
Last night Joanna Pacitti was all smiles and happy tears as she was named one of the top 36 finalists on Season 8 of AMERICAN IDOL. But when Fox released the official list of IDOL contestants, Pacitti’s name wasn’t on the list. A footnote at the end of the press release simply said:
“It has been determined that Joanna Pacitti is ineligible to continue in the competition. AMERICAN IDOL contestant Felicia Barton has replaced Ms. Pacitti as part of the Top 36.”
Leaving the question, why?
Joanna Pacitti probably has had the most buzz out of any contestant this season, but it hasn’t all been good. There were rumblings about her eligibility early on when it was revealed that Joanna Pacitti had already released an album on Geffen records. And as more details about her career to date emerged, the more fans questioned if Pacitti was the “untapped talent” that the IDOL producers claimed they were trying to capture.
In addition to release an album, Pacitti has also been featured on the soundtracks for “Legally Blonde” and the “Bratz” movie – on which she sang “Out from Under”, a song which has since been rerecorded and can be found on Britney Spears latest release, “Circus”.
If all that wasn’t enough, then came word that Pacitti had actually recorded songs written by none other than IDOL judge Kara DioGuari.
There is precedent for IDOL contestants with records deals. Season Six singers Kristy Lee Cook and Carly Smithson both released their own albums in the past. And both, especially Smithson, faced similar criticism. But both were allowed to continue in the competition.
So why was Joanna Pacitti released? I think more details will emerge today, but I have a feeling we will find that perhaps Ms. Pacitti wasn’t as upfront with the IDOL producers about her current contracts as maybe she should have been. Or, giving her the benefit of the doubt, maybe she didn’t read the fine print of her former record deal and she is still beholden to the label. No IDOL contestant can be signed by a record label at the time of the show.
I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
So Joanna Pacitti is out and Felicia Barton is in. Welcome to the Top 36 Felicia. Best of luck to you, Joanna.
Do you think based on the info we know that Joanna should have been eliminated? Don’t you think that the producers could have made this decision before she made it to the Top 36? Was this a publicity ploy on part of the producers? Your thoughts and speculation…until the facts are revealed.
AMERICAN IDOL: Top 36 Contestants Revealed
February 11, 2009 by Kath Skerry
Filed under #1 featured, American Idol, American Idol Recap
54 contestants remain for only 36 spots. Tonight they will learn whether they are going home or if they have a shot at becoming the next AMERICAN IDOL. Ryan tells us that they’ve already made it through the toughest week of their lives (which of course is all relative…just ask Danny Gokey). Who will make it through (not Tatiana…not Tatiana…not Tatiana), and who will be sent home? And what is this strange and irrational lust I have for Seacrest?
This is the 8th season of IDOL and the second season in a row that I’ve wanted a little Seacrest action. What is wrong with me? I had a bit of a crush last season, but back in November we sat across from each other at Nobu and I think I picked up on a little something between us. My name is Kath and I am loving me some Ryan Seacrest (is there a support group or some kind of shock therapy?)
Tonight I was all about live blogging IDOL. Well, kind of. Although I didn’t post the updates in real time, I wrote my thoughts on each contestant while I watched and then unpaused ye old DVR to hear the final results. Some I got right on the money, a few I got devastatingly wrong, and most…well most I didn’t have a dog gone clue who the contestants were.
So check out who made the Top 36 for Season 8 of AMERICAN IDOL and who go left behind.
- Anoop Desai – I love the contestants that take you by surprise. I remember Anoop form his auditions and I remember being taken back by his talent back then. Every time we’ve seen him since he’s been pretty damn great. I mean hell, he sang “My Perrogative” as his final song. Love it! The producers have made sure we know who he is, so I’m pretty sure he’s in. Result: He made it!
- Von Smith – Remember him? That guy that always insisted on shouting even though he was armed with a microphone? He tells Ryan that singing is why he is alive? So if he doesn’t make it through does that mean he doesn’t have a reason to live? Hey, I’m just asking. Von has made a memorable impression on the show, but I can’t say that it’s been the best impression, at least not for me. I’m thinking that the judges are going to pass. Result: He made it? Wow. Get your ear plugs ready people.
- Adam Lambert – I wrote something about this guy before and hope much I loved him despite his HORRIBLE Cher impersonation during his last performance. He’s in.
- Cody Sheldon – I’ve seen this kid in passing throughout Hollywood week but no one has gone out of their way to shine the spotlight on him. Actually until Seacrest mentioned he was the “horror film” kid, I didn’t even know who he was. He seems pretty young so I think the judges will pass and ask him to come back next year.
- Alex Wagner-Trugman – I can’t remember if this kid has a voice or not, but I do remember him, but only because he reminds me of a little Josh Groban (looks-wise that is)
This season the judges are asking certain contestants to participate in a sing off. Sing a tune on the spot and go head to head. The best voice wins. And wins big.
Sing off -Cody and Sheldon were best buds during Hollywood week, but not they are going head to head and one of them is going home.
Cody: No way. I know the kid is uber nervous as his whole journey rides on this song, but it was weak.
Alex: Hands down the winner here.
Result: Moving on to the next stage will be…Alex. Dude, that’s rough. Here you are making it to American Idol but you have to contain your excitement out of respective for the guy YOU just sent home. Alex handled it well. Nice job.
- Taylor Vaifanua – No clue who this chick is. Even when they showed the clips I didn’t remember her. But she can sing. Not better than some of the guys we’ve seen but I think she’ll make it to the next round. Result: She’s in
- Also in…Jasmine Murray, Arianna Afsar, Casey Calrson, Megan Corkery, Mishavonna Henson, and Stevie Wright – all who we gipped out of a good, tension filled on-air reveal. But I’m sure they don’t care. Some of those names sound familiar while others I’m a little wha? Have we met Megan Corkery before and I just don’t remember? The only one I’m a little thrown by is Jasmine Murray who I thought could sing, but I didn’t think she was all that great. I think the fact that she’s gorgeous played a big part in this one. Prove me wrong, Jasmine.

TV Buzz: Heigl & Knight Out; Mars Maybe In; Krasinski on the Big Screen and More…

Hear that? That’s the sound of the random TV news buzzzzzzzing around in my head. Here are a few of TV-related stories that are making the news as of late featuring Katherine Heigl, T.R. Knight, Veronica Mars, Dr. Horrible, John Krasinski, some married people sharing screen time and much more. Share your thoughts on these headlines in the comments below.
Don’t Let the Emergency Room Door Hit You on Your Ass on the Way Out…
Katherine Heigl and T.R. Knight are leaving GREY’S ANATOMY. Ok, not really a shocker, but this is the first time it’s been confirmed. Co-star James L. Pickens (The Chief) confirmed the news and said “Wherever Katherine goes, I wish her nothing but the best”. As for T.R. he said, “He’s going too….He just wanted to pursue other career paths.” Seeing that George O’Malley hasn’t more than 2 minutes of screen time all season, I’m glad T.R. will be moving on to other things. Heigl – I can’t say that I care too much where she lands. Do you care? (US Weekly)
Katherine & T.R.: Can you take Ben Silverman with you?
NBC has picked up a new reality series starring “famed life strategist”, Tony Robbins. And here I was thinking that I couldn’t possibly hate Ben Silverman anymore than I do. Way to go, Ben! Could NBC be more of a sh$#show? Maybe in I’m in the minority here…are YOU interested in a Tony Robbins reality show? (Variety)
Lights…Action…Veronica Mars…
As we talked about in our last TV Buzz, Rob Thomas is writing a big screen version of VERONICA MARS. The internets have been all a twitter now that its said that RT is supposedly going to pitch the movie to the studio. Here’s a tip Rob – dont’ call it VERONICA MARS. Why not just write a tale about a witty young woman who has dysfunctional relationships with men and is a PI in her spare time. Tell them you have Kristen Bell attached. Calling it VERONICA MARS could be the death of the pitch. Raise your hand if you think that VERONICA MARS: The Movie will ever make its way to theaters. (EW)
“Wicked” Awesome Casting News…
Broadway actress Idina Menzel will be guesting on an upcoming episode of PRIVATE PRACTICE along side hubby Taye Diggs. According to TVGuide.com “Menzel will play the mother of a patient tended to by Pete (Tim Daly). To hear one source tell it, Pete’s special brand of “bedside manner” might bring about an attraction between him and Menzel’s character. At this early stage, it’s unclear if Menzel and her main man will share many scenes.” By any chance will this mother feel the need to break out into song? If so, that would be all kinds of awesome! Who is with me that Kristin Chenoweth should also guest in the same ep? That would be a “popular” episode. (TV Guide)

Usually Monday is such a full night of TV that I’m looking for a little break on Tuesday. But last night’s Presidential address through everything off and left me with little TV to watch. So I’m totally ready for a little self indulgent TV viewing tonight. Bring it on!
Here’s a little of what I’ll be watching…what about YOU?!
American Idol | 8pm on Fox
Hollywood Round 3
Singers compete in the third week of the Hollywood Round in hope of becoming a semifinalist. [GMMR: IDOL is pissing me off. There is so much talent in Hollywood yet they are still focusing on the freak shows. If we see that Tatiana girl again tonight I might have to turn the channel. Enough – let’s get to the talent, please.]
Scrubs | 9pm on ABC
“My Absence”
