What Was Your Favorite Super Bowl Commercial?

February 2, 2009 by

Despite being a completely enthralling game (especially in the 4th quarter), I couldn’t muster the interest in a Super Bowl that didn’t feature my Patriots. So Super Bowl Sunday for me was all about the commercials. But were they any good?

I can’t say I was blown away by any of them. There were a few LOL moments but in general I thought they were a little lackluster. And seriously…not that I’m a big Budweiser drinker to begin with, but I may have become anti Bud after ALL their commercials. Those horses were become quite annoying after the 5,000th commercial.

Personally I enjoyed the NBC promos more than any of the commercials.

Check out the Super Bowl commercials and tell us what ones were YOUR favorites!

Can I get an AMEN?!  A little louder please…AMEN!!! The ultimate Monday is here.  The return of CHUCK.  HEROES is back. The season premiere of MEDIUM. New episodes of other Monday night faves.  It’s all good.  Well, not all good.  There are still too many shows on at the same time tonight. Something’s got to give.  I’ve lucked out this week because I’ve already seen tomorrow’s CHUCK and HOUSE so that’s two less I have to deal with. Next Monday…I’m screwed.

Oh and I’ve decided that I’m going to DVR HEROES and see if this chapter is any better?  I should know better by now, but I’m a sucker for punishment.  My expectations are low HEROES – you don’t have to do much.

What will YOU be watching tonight?

Chuck | 8pm on NBC
“Chuck Versus the Third Dimension

Chuck foils a plan to kill Tyler Martin, an international rock star; Chuck’s night out with Tyler leads to trouble; Morgan holds a contest among his fellow employees. [GMMR: Check back soon for my take on tonight’s episode of CHUCK.  If you don’t already have your 3D glasses, then make sure you head out today and pick some up.  You don’t want to miss out on this special TV event.]

The Bachelor | 8pm on ABC
Jason wrestles with the decision on which women should be the final four bachelorettes; the five contestants visit Jason’s hometown of Seattle; Jason breaks the rules at the rose ceremony.

The Big Bang Theory | 8pm on CBS
The Financial Permeability”
Sheldon’s solution to Penny’s financial difficulty leads to a confrontation between Leonard and Penny’s ex-boyfriend.

House | 8pm on Fox
The Greater Good”
While treating a former cancer researcher who gave up her career to pursue her own personal happiness, House and his staff begin to question their own choices; Thirteen begins to show serious reactions to her experimental treatment. [GMMR: Here’s a sneak peek at tonight’s 100th episode of HOUSE.]

Gossip Girl | 8pm on The CW
Carnal Knowledge”
Blair devises a plan to bring down a teacher; Chuck wakes up in a hotel with little memory of what happened the previous evening.

How I Met Your Mother | 8:30pm on CBS
The Possimpible”
Robin, desperate to find a job before she is deported, agrees to let Barney produce a video resume for her. [GMMR: Robin and Barney and a video tape? Hmmm.]

The Secret Life of the American Teenager | 8pm on ABC Family
Chocolate Cake”
Amy and Ricky discuss adoption; a co-worker approaches George about adopting Amy’s baby; Adrian tells Grace that she can date Ricky again.

Heroes | 9pm on NBC
“A Clear and Present Danger

Hiro tries to train Ando to be a true superhero; Matt and Daphne try to live as a normal couple; Claire discovers a deadly plot orchestrated by Nathan to capture people with abilities. [GMMR: I’ve been told that I can start watching HEROES tonight even though I didn’t watch last season.  I’ll trust that to be true, but I’m not sure.  I mean, if I wasn’t on Twitter, I’d be asking “who’s Daphne” right about now.]

24 | 9pm on Fox
Day 7: 2:00PM – 3:00PM
Dubaku looks for another target using the CIP module; while the NSA tries to locate the breach, the situation escalates rapidly; Jack follows leads.

“In the past sixty years, the groundhog has only predicted the weather correctly 28% of the time.  The rushing back and forth from burrows is believed to indicate sexual activity, not shadow seeking.”

Rashida Jones Goes Back to THE OFFICE

Rashida Jones

(SPOILER ALERT) (SPOILER ALERT) (SPOILER ALERT) (SPOILER ALERT)

After tonight’s Super Bowl episode of THE OFFICE, a promo for next week ep was shown, and it seems to have everyone all a flutter (or at least I’m guessing based on the slew of emails I just received).  In the promo, Michael and Pam visit the Utica branch only to find a VERY pregnant Karen Filippelli.

Yes, Rashida Jones IS returning to THE OFFICE next.  I’m so excited!

But I think what some people might be worried about is that bun in the oven.  Despite Michael’s idiotic comment about trying to figure out the last time Karen and Jim had sex, there is NO chance that Jim is the father of Karen’s baby.  Zero chance so don’t worry your pretty little heads about it. I mean, look closely, Karen is sporting a ring. But that’s besides the point. The baby can’t be Jim’s.

Do look for some hopefully interesting and angsty scenes between Karen and Pam.  I bet the two ladies will actually be more than ok with each other.  Don’t forget they once a upon a Benihana Christmas, these two pretty gals were friends.

Anyway, feel free to speculate away. Based on the number of people that have ended up on GMMR tonight looking for info on this, I’m sure there are a lot of theories.

[GMMR: Don’t be throw by some of the comments – this is an update from an older post that talked of Rashida’s last guest appearance on “The Office”]

THE OFFICE Super Bowl Episode – Favorite Moments

If you read my early review of the post-Super Bowl episode of THE OFFICE then you know I was a big fan! But I want to know what YOU think. Chime in during or after the episode and share YOUR favorite moments.

Here are some of my favorite moments… (and despite appearances NO these are not ALL the same scene)

The Cold Open

Brilliant! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched this cold open.  So many classic moments, but I think Angela throwing the cat up into the ceiling only to have it come crashing down might have been my favorite.  Others include “the fire is shooting at us” and “Barack is President….you’re black”

Stanley Hudson’s Greatest Hits

Who doesn’t love a good Stanley freak out.  I’m personally partial to when he rips Ryan a new one in the break room, but in general he’s pretty scary most of the time.

Jennifer Hudson Sings the National Anthem at Super Bowl XLIII

Powerful and stunning.  That was Jennifer Hudson’s rendition of the national anthem at last’s Super Bowl.  After all that this woman has been through over the past few months, I’m glad she came back in such a big way last night.  Well done, J Hud.

SUPERNATURAL: After School Special

I loved the episode Thursday night – it was a nice return to the brothers and their relationship to each other after a couple of episodes that were focused more on secondary characters. I knew I was going to love the episode once I saw the cold open; it was sooo Heathers, with the traumatizing chants and uber-violence. High school really is one of the most evil places, isn’t it? It totally makes sense that horrible supernatural things would go on there. At Truman High in Indiana, people have been committing horrible, violent crimes against their tormentors and then claiming to have been possessed after it’s over. And weren’t we all a little satisfied when the horrible bitchy girl got hers after the way she treated the girl who had just tried to reach out to her? Yes, I know that killing someone because they’re a bitch is wrong, but this is tv…c’mon; we’re allowed to enjoy things like that.

So we had two distinct storylines going on last night. In one, the boys are trying to deal with whatever is turning the kids at the high school into violent psychopaths (aside from teenage hormones), and in the other the boys are the students, because we’re seeing flashbacks to 1997 when they attended the very same school. I thought that the boys who played young Sam and Dean were fantastic. They looked too far apart in age, but it’s a minor point that I can live with (according to imdb, the actors are 11 years apart, which is about what it looked like).

CRUSOE: Stranded Forever

Before we get into the final recap of CRUSOE, I just wanted to take a moment to thank Meredith for her hard work and dedication to this show this season. CRUSOE maybe wasn’t the hit NBC hoped it would be, but Meredith stuck with it all season long.  Kudos and again, THANK YOU!

———————–

So he’ll be stranded forever…..

This week Blackthorn and his gang head back to the tree house looking for the baptism certificate hidden in Crusoe’s bible. When he doesn’t find it, they burn the tree house. (Did anybody notice how the fire stayed contained to the tree house and didn’t spread anywhere else? Just an observation on my part). After Crusoe and Friday watch the tree house burn, they return to the ashes and Crusoe finds his baptism certificate hidden in the spine of the bible, and not hidden within the pages where Blackthorn had looked. He apparently didn’t know it was there and as he reads it, he finally realizes why Blackthorn is after him.

It’s only a matter of time before Blackthorn and Crusoe run into each other and when they run into each other at the piranha filled lake, Crusoe lets Blackthorn know he has the certificate he’s looking for. He asks Blackthorn to head back to the ship and wait for him. Crusoe then asks Friday to follow Blackthorn back to the ship while he tracks down Tuffley and Nathan, who Friday had scared off earlier by shooting arrows at them. He follows them to the beach where he challenges them to a duel. He kills Nathan and then threatens to kill Tuffley if he doesn’t tell him the truth about what has happened to Susannah and his kids.
