DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES: The Story of Lucy and Jessie
March 16, 2009 by Tricia
Hey Everyone! So tonight was the big “ I kissed a girl” episode of Desperate Housewives and I have to say, I’m impressed with the way it was handled. After hearing that Susan was going to share a kiss with a woman and then seeing the previews I was afraid this was going to be some huge gimmick. Instead, it contributed to an actual storyline. Impressive! After a shaky day at work, Susan finds out that her boss will be writing a performance review about her soon. In order to get in her good graces, Susan invites her over for dinner and manages to send all the wrong signals. Her boss, who happens to be a lesbian, goes in for the kiss at the end of the night. This leads to an awkward conversation at work but Susan and her boss manage to decide to be just friends.
Gabby is surprised when Carlos tells her he hired an ex- girlfriend. She’s even more surprised when she discovers that his ex- girlfriend is considerably heavier then her and was when Carlos dated her. Gabby gets nervous and manages to get a job for Lynette working for Carlos so that Lynette can keep an eye on him. This is fine for Lynette, however, as she’s being confronted with ageism while searching for a job. I thought Gabby’s surprise at the appearance of Carlos’s ex- girlfriend was shallow but expected. I, like Gabby, thought Carlos went for looks. It was a pleasant surprise to find out he has more depth then that. I was also angry for Lynette. The comments those two women made in the office were appalling. People shouldn’t be judged by their age but rather by their value.
Orson is refusing to stop stealing despite Bree’s insistence that he do so. As a matter of fact, Bree’s insistence that he stop is actually causing him to continue because it gives him “a thrill”. I think there’s something seriously wrong with Orson. This isn’t just a case of him wanting to get back at Bree; I honestly think he has something medically wrong with him. The therapist is a step in the right direction.
Dave is gearing up for his big camping trip with Mike and Katherine just as Edie discovers that he had a daughter who was killed. It seems like things are finally moving ahead with this storyline. I’m getting a little frustrated with how slow the plot has been moving recently.
That’s it for this week. See you guys back here next week!

Great recap but you didn’t mention Gabby laying the demo kisses on Susan. They were actually pretty funny. I too was appalled at the ageism and weightism discussions but good on Carlos for showing some quality. Is it me or is the actor playing Carlos still looking like he’s blind from time-to-time? I have to profess I don’t know the actress’ name playing the ex-girlfriend/new CFO but i loved her in Ed. I hope she is in more upcoming eps.
Good episode! I totally agree with you.. Orson is crazy!! or there’s something medically wrong lol but I think he’s crazy haha. It was Swoozie Kurtz from Pushing Daisies! I don’t know if i spelled her name right though. I was curious who she was going to interact with and then I heard she was going to kiss someone. At the beginning of the episode when I saw her with Susan I was like ohh lol. Also, Tricia omg seriously we watch like exactly the same shows lol. Actually I think I might watch more than you lol, and I’m three years younger haha. But, you’ve got all my favorite shows on there, I was going to leave a comment on Flickr but I’m not signed up, anyway my point is lol we watch the same show I think there’s like 5 I don’t but there’s some others I do. Anyway, I thought that was cool lol, ok I’ll stop rambling now lol
Wow. Swoosie Kurtz going full-on lesbian. Please make her a recurring character.
