PREVIOUS POST:
Tonight we’re going from 11 to 10. This week’s elimination is especially tough because whomever gets sent home is going home for good while their fellow contestants will be enjoying the AI summer tour. Bummer.
Since it’s country night we’ll be treated to performances by Brad Paisely and a duet with Randy Travis & Carrie Underwood. Any chance we could just get Carrie and skip the others? What…I want to watch LOST.
9:00pm: Ryan has informed us that “THIS is American Idol”. Whew, I thought maybe we were watching TOP CHEF or DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES.
9:05pm: Time for a recap of last night’s performances. Re: Danny’s performance – The funniest commentary of the day came from @HitFixDaniel who said via Twitter: “The song “Jesus Take the Wheel” irks me. Jesus lived in a time without cars. If he took the wheel, he’d probably crash.” Ha!
9:07pm: The Idols are lip syncing some God awful song. Not sure what they’re singing, but it might be the alphabet. I know I’m going straight to hell for asking, but what is Scott going to do if he makes it through tonight and goes on the IDOL tour? Won’t it be really difficult for him to learn and perform the cheesy choreography? I’m not saying he can’t do it, but it certainly poses a unique set of challenges.
[Commercial break: They showcase the audition of Kristin McNamara, one of the many, many contestants that could out sing Jasmine Murray. Way to go judges!]
9:12pm: This week’s Ford music video has the contestants throwing water balloons at each other. Who do you think was the biggest target – Danny or Adam?
9:16pm: Bring out the kleenex. Between the look at last week’s castoffs and Michael Sarver talking about how his kid doesn’t know why Daddy doesn’t love her anymore, it’s an emotional few minutes.
9:18pm: Let the auf wiedersehening begin.
- Danny – SAF
- Lil – SAFE
- Anoop – SAFE
- Allison – BOTTOM THREE (wow!!)
- Michael – BOTTOM THREE
9:27pm: Brad Paisely is performing. Believe it or not I actually have a favorite Brad Paisley song – “Alcohol”. This isn’t “Alcohol” but I don’t really have anything else to say about Brad Paisley.
“I can make anybody pretty
I can make you believe any lie
I can make you pick a fight
with somebody twice
your size. . .”
9:35pm: We’re back at it. Time for more results. It’s kind of anti-climatic when two of the three in the bottom three are announced before the break. You know the next few down the line are going to be safe.
- Scott: SAFE
- Megan: SAFE
- Matt – SAFE (Yay!)
- Kris – SAFE (Yay! Again)
- Alexis – BOTTOM THREE
- Adam – SAFE
I’m disappointed to see both Allison and Alexis in the bottom three tonight. I really believe that Scott should have been there. Of those three I’m thinking it’s going to be Michael going home.
9:40pm: Ryan quickly eliminated the fears of Allison as she went back to the safety zone.
If Alexis is voted out will the judges use the Golden Power of Veto to save her? I’m thinking they’re not going to want to use it this early, especially since they’ll want to keep it in case their beloved Danny is ever voted off. But on the other hand the ladies are disappearing at a fast rate – will they want to keep a few more chicks around for the run?
9:47pm: Randy Travis and Carrie Underwood chit chat with Seacrest. What’s up with Carrie’s hair? I don’t like that tucked back hair look. But I do love me some Carrie Underwood, even with questionable locks.
9:56pm: After the nationwide vote is Michael who is safe tonight. WOW! SHOCKING!! Will the judges use their veto? Simon said that they were going to decide whether or not to use the veto depending on this performance. Too bad they’re not listening to her. I don’t think they should use it despite how much I like Alexis. But the poor girl…she is so emotional at this moment right now. Talk about singing for her life. This is brutal.
9:58pm: The judges have spoken and they have opted NOT to save Alexis.
A shocking evening. I really didn’t think Alexis would go this early. I guess America didn’t love her as much as I did. Farwell Alexis.
What did YOU think of tonight’s rather shocking outing? Did you expect Alexis to go home this early? Did you expect Michael Sarver to get more votes? And what does it mean that Allison was in the bottom three? Lots to discuss tonight!

Programming note – President Obama is preempting IDOL next Tuesday so it will be on Wednesday and Thursday. Ok enough with these updates Barack – why not do them at 7pm. People don’t care if you cut into Access Hollywood…I promise.

Alexis is one of my favourite that I’m expecting to be among the three finanlist. Unfortunately, American make the wrong choice.
Alexis you are talented,go ahead and do your thing girl……..
Did anyone else notice Randy Travis looks and sounds how you would imagine Landry (Lance!) from Friday Night Lights in 30+ years????
Surprised to see Alexis go, I thought Scott, Lil, and Michael should have been in the bottom 3. And Michael should have gone home.
It’s a travesty and I am very disappointed. Never underestimate the country fan base out there that probably saved Michael. He’s gone next week. Even more shocking was Allison in the bottom, wow, I have to pick up the phone and vote next week.
I actually did vote for Allison this week because I feared she would get lost in the crowd with that song (which was good, but a little too much all in one range, and I don’t think many knew the song itself…), and even though she is awesome, I don’t think she has a wide fan base like some of the others. I agree – Scott should have been gone last week (and if not, then CERTAINLY this week!). Idol tour catastrophe aside, he just isn’t as interesting a vocalist as some of the others. A great pianist, but only a so-so vocalist. I would have preferred to see Michael leave over Alexis, but the past two weeks she didn’t wow me. I think it really hurt her to be in the very first week of 12 singers, and then not be seen again for weeks. I think everyone kind of forgot about her.
No big loss for me but I do think there were others that should have gone long before her. Namely Scott, Michael and Megan.
The group number really showed how few girls are left. 4 not 3….wow! They are going to end up with a top 4 of all guys if you ask me.

I think the reason the judges didn’t use the save was that it would’ve been a mess next week to eliminate two contestants and then pick one of them only for the tour… better to just avoid the hassle and send Alexis (a.k.a. Allison) home.
I was actually relieved that is wasn’t Michael that went home last night. Nothing against your girl Alexis. I want to see if he bounces back next week. If not, it is open season on the boy.
Still – who is voting for Scott & Megan?? Time to go…
I was really surprised Alexis went home. I had Alexis pegged for top 4. I guess I was wrong. I thought it was going to me Michael. I figured they wouldn’t save Alexis because it so early on. I voted like a bazillion times for Megan, Kris, and Anoop. I lost track i just kept calling and calling lol.
