24 Debrief: Day 7 | 11:00 pm-12:00 am

March 31, 2009 by

[Sorry for the late post 24 fans. Philboy sent this my way and it got temporarily lost in the shuffle.]

Debrief

  • The CDC examined Jack. It turns out that the bioweapon that Starkwood (re)acquired contains an airborne version of Cruetzfeldt-Jakob disease. The bioweapon causes paralysis and dementia in a matter of days as opposed to the disease’s normal matter of years. From the leak in the containers, Jack was infected.
  • Tony is held captive at the Starkwood compound. He is rescued by Greg, Jonas Hodges’ second in command, who worries that the operation has gone too far and offers to help Tony and the FBI help find the bioweapon in exchange for immunity.
  • Renee cries a lot after debriefing Jack (the puns abound, I know) and Larry tells her that she should have trusted him. The good news is that Larry is totally on Jack’s side now, it seems. He doesn’t allow him to raid the Starkwood compound because he doesn’t know when the symptoms of the bioweapon exposure will occur.
  • President Taylor has appointed Olivia acting Chief of Staff. She authorized the attack on the Starkwood compound without issue. Olivia wants Aaron to be her Secret Service detail.
  • Greg leads Tony and the FBI to a container at Starkwood, only to have them realized it was all a ruse to buy Starkwood and Hodges more time. The weapons were no where to be found. When they tried to leave, Starkwood troops boxed the FBI in, not allowing them to leave. The FBI has been taken hostage.

Agent Philboy’s Assessment

This episode was…fine. It had an awesome last act, with the raid on Starkwood. Tonight, I took stock in the plotlines that were annoying me to see where they were a couple of episodes and, I have to say, Larry may not be a tool anymore! I did love the moment where Jack and Larry “finally agreed on something.” Larry had a good point, I suppose, and Jack really had no point but agree and stay behind. Of course, it makes his entrance even more dramatic next week (I predict).

I also am making the following prediction: Aaron takes the job. He then realizes that Olivia is the satan child and says “I’m afraid I can’t do that ma’am” to her shenanigans. Of course, I thought we would have a Chloe-Janis team-up at this point, so my predictions are pretty hit and miss.

The details behind the bioweapon do mean that we won’t see the bioweapon released, at least with the intent with seeing it being used on people. With it working in one to two days, there wouldn’t be any of those dying shots that Taylor was watching of the Sangalese. That means that (Another Fearless Prediction Alert!!!) Jack and company will plan to find a way to get rid of the bioweapon with a couple of hours left and then spend the final two hours, which will air at one time as the season finale, chasing Hodges around DC.

Now, watch as NONE of those predictions happen and I look like a jackass.

Everything I Need to Know in Life I Learned from Jack Bauer (and Others)…

  • If you don’t understand why someone is threatening the country, go along with it. It’s fine.
  • It’s perfectly rational to trust the guy working for the creepy defense contractor.
  • As long as you talk in short, urgent sentences, you will have a reason to wear a Kevlar jacket in the middle of an FBI office.
  • When the President says it’s OK, it doesn’t really matter what creepy Jon Voight says.
  • Appropriate evil villain attire: North Face.

Weekly Kill Count = 0 Total Kill Count = 344+

I didn’t miss a death this week, did I?

What did you learn from the gang this week? Plus, we have eight episodes left…What are YOUR fearless predictions?

Philboy is GMMR’s resident Dexter and 24 analyst. He spends his days studying Communications at Purdue University and his nights failing at keeping up with all of the TV shows he loves. His can’t miss shows are “24”, “Chuck”, and “Life on Mars”. The thoughts running through his head for this week are, “GREEK IS BACK!” and “’Life on Mars’ ends this week. *Cries*”

You missed a death–Greg shot (and i assume killed) the guy guarding Tony.

Good call on Larry’s vest. That had me laughing when i was watching the episode.

I too predicted the return of Chloe, where the hell is she? Am missing her!

I think you’re right about beloved Aaron – he will be a key to revealing the evil that lurks in the first daughter…so who is the person first daughter recommends for chief of staff?

They must have listened to us because they showed Jack changing clothes not once but twice!

No, Ryan, the guy Greg “shot” showed up at the end, talking to the FBI and backed up by tons of soldiers. That’s why Tony looked at him all funny.

But I didn’t notice that until someone pointed it out to me, and from what I’ve been reading, I’m not alone.

Yeah, I caught the fake shooting. Thanks for the thought, though Ryan. I think I was so angry at the whole situation (being boxed in by Starkwood) I didn’t comment on it. 🙁
