Who Won AMERICA’S BEST DANCE CREW?

March 5, 2009 by
Filed under #1 featured, America's Best Dance Crew

Will it be The Beat Freaks or Quest Crew? No matter who walks away with the title of America’s Best Dance Crew it will be well deserved. Both crews are extremely talented and have proven they deserve to be in the finale.

The boy of Quest have been my favorite from day one. The ladies of The Beat Freaks surpassed everyone’s expectations and have made ABDC history by being the first all girl dance crew in the finals. Well done to both teams.

Before the winner was announced we were treated to some amazing multi-crew performances. The judges chose three crews whose talent and style complimented each other. All three performances were incredible. Well done!

Group 1: Strikers All Stars, Dynamic Edition and Quest Crew
Group 2: Beat Freaks, Team Millenia, Boxcuttuhz
Group 3: Fly Khicks, Ringmasters, GOP Dance

I did really love all three performances, but I thought Group 1 was the tightest.

But the real show was the kickass performance by Quest and Beat Freaks. So well done. I wish we had seen them collaborate more this season.

But there can on be one winner. And the crew you voted as AMERICA’S BEST DANCE CREW is….

Who Made It Through on AMERICAN IDOL – Wild Card Round

If you hate IDOL I don’t know how you are hanging out at GMMR these days.  I’d apologize but I love this show so much that I can’t help but cover it.  But I appreciate you dealing with it. This is the last time it will be four days of IDOL.  We’re almost to a more normal schedule.

With that out of the way, let’s talk about tonight’s Wild Card round.  Eight singers handpicked by the judges are coming back to compete for the final three slots in the Top 12.  But tonight they’re not singing for your vote.  It’s all up to the judges. And let’s face it, barring a complete meltdown, they know exactly who they are going to put through.

Jesse Langseth was up first tonight. The girl can sing. I actually love her voice. But she could never get me to pick up the phone and vote her for her. She irks me too much.

Next up was one of my favorites, Matt Giraud. I think he redeemed himself with tonight’s performance. I thought he was so amazing tonight. But I don’t know if the judges were off their chairs in love with him.

The judges are in love with Megan Korkrey. I think some of YOU are too. I don’t get it.  Despite being different and quirky, she is so far from my favorite. I would be shocked if the judges don’t put her through.  She is one of their favorites.

This just in from The Paley Center…

The Paley Center for Media announces the long-awaited DVD release of its 2008 PaleyFest Buffy the Vampire Slayer reunion panel. The DVD captures the once-in-a-lifetime reunion event presented live on stage before a sold-out audience in Hollywood. [GMMR: I was there!  Woo hoo!] A decade following the series premiere, creator Joss Whedon joins cast members Sarah Michelle Geller, Seth Green, Amber Benson, Nicholas Brendon, Charisma Carpenter, Emma Caulfield, James Marsters, and Michelle Trachtenberg along with series writer/producers David Greenwalt and Marti Noxon for an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at one of the most revered, iconic, and deconstructed television series of all time.

Priced at $19.95 each, the DVD is available now exclusively online at www.paleycenter.org and will also be available at the Cinerama Dome at the ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood for the duration of this year’s PaleyFest09 (April 10-23). This DVD features an introduction by show creator/executive producer Joss Whedon; behind-the-scenes anecdotes by Sarah Michelle Geller, Seth Green, James Marsters, and other participating cast members; fan questions to the participating panelists; and PaleyFest08 backstage photos and video. All proceeds from the sale of these DVDs benefit the Paley Center.

Even for someone who was as new to the world of BUFFY as I was at the time (I finished watching the series finale in a coffee shop across from the ArcLight while others waited in line to enter the BUFFY Reunion) knew that it was a special evening. Now you get to enjoy it too!

Ducky wrote up an account of the BUFFY Reunion Panel at Paley, so check it out here: Buffy The Vampire Slayer Reunion Thoughts and Photos

BONES TV Guide Cover – He’s Just That Into Her

March 5, 2009 by
Filed under #1 featured, Bones, Posts by Sarah (Seels)

The following contains spoilers for BONES. Stop reading if you are a spoilertarian.

“Do you know how naked you’ll be?”
“They’ll both have happy endings?”
“You think I’m going to be pricked?”

Score one for TVGUIDE, for getting to hang out with Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz, and cheers to those two for getting to be on the TV GUIDE cover. If you get the chance, you should totally check it out on your local newsstand! The cover is fresh and fun, and inside there is a great article on the eventual (read: season four finale) hook to the up between Booth and Brennan. (And find out just what the quotes above are all about).

Deschanel and Boreanaz are fun, and they describe how they think ‘it’s’ finally going to happen (think…”Lady and the Tramp”), and we find out once and for all which side of the bed each sleeps on.

So go check it out, and in the meantime, set your clocks for 8 PM, next Thursday night, when BONES is back with an all-new episode, “The Bones that Foam”, directed by David Boreanaz himself.

LOST: LaFleur – LOST Leaves Me LaFleur’d Once Again

March 5, 2009 by

The following contains spoilers for tonight’s LOST. Read at your own risk.

Talk about a show keeping you on your toes. LOST was a complete mind frak tonight and I loved every single minute of it. For me this was the most confusing episode to date what with all the time jumps three later and then three years back then three years back to the future which was really the past. Zoinks! But for me the confusion was well worth it because the episode opened up yet another chapter to the LOST story.  And perhaps one of its final chapters.

I don’t want to play you.  You know I can’t properly recap an episode of LOST.  But let me take a stab at throwing out what I think happened and let’s see how far off I am, ok?

Locke’s escape down the rabbit hole led him to the donkey wheel.  With one turn of the wheel, Locke stops the island from spinning for good. Whenever in time Miles, Daniel, Jin, Sawyer and Juliet are is where they’re staying.  Sawyer is determined to wait around until Locke returns to them – whenever that may be.

Sawyer decides that they should return to the beach to try to find their friends while they wait for Locke to return. On their way they come across a woman whose husband has just been shot dead by two thugs. She’s about to be murdered herself when Sawyer interrupts. Upon provocation, Juliet and Sawyer kill the thugs.  The woman, Amy, and her (dead) husband, Paul, are part of the Dharma Initiative.  The thugs were part of the Hostiles (which we know as the earlier version of The Others).   Seems there is a shaky truce between the Initiative and the Hostiles.  The killing of the thugs meant the truce had been broken.  Well I guess it was really broken when the thugs killed Paul, but that’s not here nor there.

Who Made it Through on AMERICAN IDOL?

Wait? Do the IDOL hopefuls really lip synch in the group numbers?  Am I the only person in America that didn’t realize this until tonight?  I have seen a few missteps before but there is no way they could have been singing live as each and every one of the contestants were screwing up all throughout Katy Perry’s “Hot and Cold”.  Wrong words, not singing at all. A mess.  If it is indeed pre-recorded then I’m equally shocked that they don’t sound better. Yikes.

Oh, my bad.  Welcome to AMERICAN IDOL.

Tonight we’ll watch to see who will join Lil Rounds in the Top 12 of this week. The girl is a shoe in, right?  And deservedly so. We’re also going to find out which bypassed contestants will get a second shot during tomorrow night’s Wild Card Round.

But first let’s put some butts on those silver stools, ok?

The first contestant joining Danny, Alexis, Kris, Adam, Allison, Michael in the Top 12 is…

Tomorrow I’ll be talking with Craig Thomas and Carter Bays, the creators of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER.  I know there are a lot of HIMYM fans here on GMMR so I thought I would open it up to YOU.  What questions would you like to ask the creators?

Me? I’ll be asking when we’re going to see a musical episode? Nah…well, maybe?

Excited to read your questions!

The TV Talk Podcast: Episode #36

Comments Off on The TV Talk Podcast: Episode #36

Ducky’s back from vacation which means it’s time for another TV Talk Podcast! We have almost 3 weeks to cover so make yourself some tea, get a snack and settle in for the soothing cackles and rants we’re about to sling your way.

We start as we always do, Monday nights. BIG BANG THEORY and HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER continues to be the best damn double bill on television. CHUCK goes to the suburbs, tests his best friendship with Morgan and breaks up with Sarah, say what? HEROES hits rock bottom and Matt Dallas shows his rock hard… abs!

THE BIGGEST LOSER 7 pisses Ducky off and shockingly Kath watched! PRIVILEGED aired what may have been it’s series finale and is to be continued but when considering The CW renewed a bunch of shows already. AMERICAN IDOL continues to rock on while randomly REAPER returns.

TOP CHEF has a shocking finale while Kath gets a shocker as she realizes she missed DAMAGES last week mid-recap.

SURVIVOR’s getting ugly, Sweeps are in March, 30 ROCK gets political, AMERICA’S BEST DANCE CREW kills it and I might kill Kath for something she says about BURN NOTICE.

Over on Friday’s there’s FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, DOLLHOUSE and BATTLESTAR GALACTICA to discuss before breezing through Sunday’s THE AMAZING RACE because really you just want to listen to…

TWO IDIOTS TALK LOST!

NOTE: There were many of you out there that asked we include chapter markers so you could fast forward to the shows you want to hear about so we added them this week. This makes the podcast file size humongous so I think we’ll only do it on the super-sized podcasts moving forward.

AMERICAN IDOL: Top 36 (Group 3)

Are you ready for the next 12? Who will make it through? And how many of us knew that Lil Rounds was going to get the pimp spot tonight?  Oh IDOL producers, give us a little credit, please.

My AMERICAN IDOL recap is going to be a little more direct tonight. I love breaking down the performance of each contestant, but tonight I think it’s going to be a little more of my gut reaction.  Sister needs some sleep!

Let’s go at it.

Von Smith – The screamer reads his own press and he promises he’s not going to yell at us tonight. Whew. He was a little screamy but not too bad.  He doesn’t have a bad voice but unless everyone else after him bombs, he’s not going to be moving on.

Taylor Vaifanu – Good voice, but not great.  She was all over the place on the stage.  Very distracting.

Alex Wagner-Trugman – Smooth voice but so awkward. So very awkward.  He kept doing all these bizarre growls.  Horrible.  I think he tried to rock it out.  I think.  Miserable.  Adios.

Arianna Afsar – She was off pitch from the start and she lacks the ability to switch from a low to higher octave. Really bad. Of all the songs she could have chosen she goes with “The Winner Takes it All” by ABBA? No way. Even her parents weren’t really clapping for her.

Ju’Not Joyner – I remember this guy and I remember really liking him. But I also remember him singing “Hey There Delilah” in Hollywood Week, so did he have to sing it again tonight? Maybe not, but I like what he did with the melody though.  He turned a quirky anthem into a sexy and soulful R&B love song.  Well done.  Really well done.

CHUCK vs. The Beefcake

March 3, 2009 by
Filed under #1 featured, Chuck, Chuck Recaps, Posts by SB

Oh, you guys … Chuck totally brought it for me this week. I haven’t laughed that hard at an episode in a really long time, and it’s so funny because Sarah and Chuck were all breaking up and she was getting hit on by a smooth operating James Bond, and it should’ve been totally angsty, but instead it was hysterical. Loves it!

Casey was amazingly funny in this ep, and I like his little snarky interjections, like Chuck and Sarah breaking up and Casey commenting that the most annoying relationship of his life was finally over. And I know he was giving Chuck a hard time about Cole (the James Bond Lite), but I kept getting the feeling that it was in that older brother, get-your-butt-in-gear way, where he wanted Chuck to step it up and fight for his woman.

Later, when the Fulcrum lady who said that everyone talks killed herself immediately after Casey repeated the sentiment, I was like … dude, they were perfect for each other! So I got an extra big laugh when Jeff later said that everyone talks. And I suppose that it was an interesting tie-in that Sarah said the same thing at the end, proving yet again that she’s more like Casey (and, frighteningly, Jeff) than she is like our optimistic Chuck.
