AWAY WE GO Trailer – John Krasinski & Maya Rudolph

I’ve been waiting for this trailer for a long time now, and it’s finally here! THE OFFICE’s John Krasinski and SNL’s Maya Rudolph star in “Away We Go”, a new movie from Oscar Award winning director Sam Mendes. The movie follows a couple expecting their first child as they travel around the U.S. in order to find a perfect place to start their family.
The movie stars other TV notables including Allison Janney (The West Wing) and Jim Gaffigan (My Boys), as well as Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jeff Daniels and Catherine O’Hara.
The trailer certainly has a very JUNO’esque feel to it, but the movie looks like it could have a lot of humor and heart. I think it looks great and I’ll definitely be in line on opening day June 5th. Then again I am the same girl that took a half day on the opening day of “License to Wed” so take it for what it’s worth. But I this one will be a keeper.
Thanks to @ProgGrrl for the tip and FirstShowing.net for the trailer.

YOU Be the Network Exec – One Hour a Day TV
March 16, 2009 by Kath Skerry
This post has the makings of a horror story. Please don’t be frightened…it’s not real.
The year in 2010. In light of the economic crisis, the networks have opted to run ongoing news coverage 23/7. This leaves only one hour a day, seven days a week for non-news viewing. Given your love for all things TV, YOU have been chosen to dictate the one hour of programming that will be viewed by the masses each day. You are not constrained by budget and you don’t have to be worried about ratings. Your only allegiance is to the viewing public. Their TV entertainment is limited and it’s up to you to make them happy.
If you alone programmed the TV schedule, one hour out of each day, what would the TV schedule look like?
It’s tough, but here’s my schedule…
Monday: Mad Men – Consider it the weekly history lesson. Let’s watch together and learn from our mistakes while also getting some savvy fashion advice.
Tuesday: Chuck – This one show alone covers the action, drama, comedy & romance genres. It’s four shows for the price of one.
Wednesday: Lost – What? There would be anarchy if we didn’t air the ending to LOST.
Thursday:The Office/How I Met Your Mother – Jim Halpert & Barney Stinson. Need I say more.
Friday: Friday Night Lights – The only way I could ensure that FNL was getting the eyeballs it needed to stay on the air. Could I make my favorite drama yours?
Saturday: So You Think You Can Dance – Don’t we need a little art in our lives? It’s the best of the best of reality shows.
Sunday: The Big Bang Theory/The Daily Show – I like my men smart and funny. Plus, with 23/7 news shows we’re going to need Jon Stewart more than ever to help us sort through the BS.
Leave your TV schedule below.
DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES: The Story of Lucy and Jessie

Hey Everyone! So tonight was the big “ I kissed a girl” episode of Desperate Housewives and I have to say, I’m impressed with the way it was handled. After hearing that Susan was going to share a kiss with a woman and then seeing the previews I was afraid this was going to be some huge gimmick. Instead, it contributed to an actual storyline. Impressive! After a shaky day at work, Susan finds out that her boss will be writing a performance review about her soon. In order to get in her good graces, Susan invites her over for dinner and manages to send all the wrong signals. Her boss, who happens to be a lesbian, goes in for the kiss at the end of the night. This leads to an awkward conversation at work but Susan and her boss manage to decide to be just friends.
Gabby is surprised when Carlos tells her he hired an ex- girlfriend. She’s even more surprised when she discovers that his ex- girlfriend is considerably heavier then her and was when Carlos dated her. Gabby gets nervous and manages to get a job for Lynette working for Carlos so that Lynette can keep an eye on him. This is fine for Lynette, however, as she’s being confronted with ageism while searching for a job. I thought Gabby’s surprise at the appearance of Carlos’s ex- girlfriend was shallow but expected. I, like Gabby, thought Carlos went for looks. It was a pleasant surprise to find out he has more depth then that. I was also angry for Lynette. The comments those two women made in the office were appalling. People shouldn’t be judged by their age but rather by their value.
BROTHERS & SISTERS: Spring Broken
March 16, 2009 by Kath Skerry

Why Ryan Lafferty isn’t running and screaming in another direction is beyond me? Forget about trips to Baja and jaunts to visit Mommy – the Walker children (and their mother) need to get themselves into a group therapy session. STAT!
Like mother, like children – the Walker offspring know nothing about personal boundaries. Tommy and Justin have overstayed their welcome at Sarah’s house and now they’re just becoming annoying. Justin is still reeling from his break up with Rebecca, or so where led to believe. Really he’s just concerned with getting into Med School. I know he has military training, but why is he concentrating on Med School so much when he hasn’t yet graduated from college? Seems like the show is just going to skip over the process of actually getting his undergraduate degree. Bizarre.
Meanwhile, Tommy is dealing with the fallout from his fraudulent Ojai activities. Tommy’s lawyer has suggested he take a plea. Although the plea comes with a jail sentence, Kevin thinks it would be better in the long run as a trial would financially crush Tommy and the outcome would probably not be favorable.
Under the guise of helping Justin get over Rebecca, Kevin & Justin lure Tommy away to Baja for the weekend so they can convince him to take the plea. When they arrive and find themselves smack in the middle of a Spring Break party, their weekend of brotherly male bonding goes off track.
Tonight’s TV Spotlight…Monday, March 16, 2009

I’ve rested up and I think I’m prepared for tonight’s TV lineup. As disappointed as I am that CHUCK is a rerun tonight, at least we’ve got Josh Schwartz’s other show – GOSSIP GIRL – returning…although I didn’t love tonight’s episode at all. And with new episodes of all other Monday night favorites, I’m thinking it’s going to be a pretty great TV night. Oh and don’t forget about CASTLE. I might not have loved the pilot but I’m willing to give it another go tonight.
Weekend Update with GMMR…
I was out of town all weekend at a friend’s wedding so the TV watching was at a minimum. And by at a minimum I mean I didn’t watch any TV until I got home last night. I powered through a lot and hope to see finished before the onslaught of Monday night TV starts. I still haven’t watched DOLLHOUSE but I did manage to catch up on two weeks of BATTLESTAR. Now I just need to find the time to blog about it. Here’s to hoping I have an hour free at lunch today.
Ok on to Monday night’s TV extravaganza!
The Big Bang Theory | 8pm on CBS
“The Work Song Nanocluster”
Penny starts a hair-product business that suffers when her friends, particularly Sheldon, become involved.
Gossip Girl | 8pm on The CW
“The Age of Dissonance”
Serena develops a crush on the director of the school play; Blair gets devastating news about her future; Dan and Rachel have a hard time staying away from each other. [GMMR: We’ve been waiting a long time for the return of GOSSIP GIRL. Unfortunately the writers missed the mark with this episode. And next week’s too. We’ll talk about tonight’s ep more tomorrow when you’ve had a chance to watch but it’s just not good. It’s sloppy and way to much drama without GG’s signature wit. Disappointing.]
House | 8pm on Fox
“Here Kitty”
House sets out to disprove the allegations of a nursing home worker who feigns illness after being visited by the facility’s pet cat, which has a reputation for visiting people who are about to die.
How I Met Your Mother | 8:30pm on CBS
“The Front Porch“
Ted learns that not only did Lily plant another woman’s earring in his bed for Karen to find, she has meddled in some of his other relationships as well.
24 | 8pm on Fox
“Day 7: 9:00PM – 10:00PM”
Jonas Hodges (Jon Voight) emerges as Jack’s latest adversary; the fight to avert more terror attacks continues. [GMMR: HEY! Where have all the 24 fans been? The weekly discussion has quieted down a lot as of late. Where are you people?!]
One Tree Hill| 9pm on The CW
“You and Me and the Bottle Makes Three Tonight”
Lucas and Peyton get startling news about the pregnancy; Haley and Nathan celebrate their anniversary while Deb and Dan baby-sit Jamie.
Castle | 10pm on ABC
“Nanny McDead”
The body of a nanny is found inside the dryer of a laundry room in an upscale apartment building where she worked; Castle tries to get inside Beckett’s head while writing the first novel in his Nikki Heat series. [GMMR: New CASTLE discussion on the site tomorrow so watch tonight!]
Also playing…
- Dancing with the Stars 8pm on ABC | Celebrities compete with their professional dance partners.
- The Secret Life of the American Teenager | 8pm on ABC Family: While awaiting the birth of her baby, Amy flashes back to when she first met Ricky while at band camp; Tom tells Jack that Grace misses him.
- Two and a Half Men | 9pm on CBS: Charlie fights the overwhelming urge to flee when Chelsea gets sick and he is forced to take care of her.
- Kyle XY | 9pm on ABC Family: Kyle vows to stop Cassidy and Latnok when he learns of their true plans for Adam’s experiment.

Certainly a lot to choose from. Share YOUR Monday night TV lineup in the comments below.
THE AMAZING RACE Brings Us Phil in His Undies!

Russian brides, snow plows and Phil in his undies – ah, you gotta love THE AMAZING RACE.
The teams were once again traipsing through the Siberian cold on their way to one million dollars. After spending the night on a train, the seven remaining twosomes encountered a detour which involved plowing a Russian bride. Wait, that’s not right. Actually the teams had the option of completing laps behind the wheel of a snow plow OR delivering a Russian bride to her would be groomsmen. Despite trouble navigating a run down, stick shift car through the treacherous roads of Siberia, most teams complete their respective tasks with ease.
Tonight’s road block really turned the heat up. One contestant from each team was required to strip down to their unmentionables and run a mile and a half race through the streets of Siberia. Not an easy task when fully clothed never mind being near naked in 25 degrees. But it did allow us to see Phil dawning his boxer briefs. Not something you’re going to see Seacrest doing on IDOL anytime soon.
Luke and Margie arrived to the mat first and claimed a trip to St. Lucia. Following in order were Victor & Tammy, Cara & Jamie (I still had to look up their names since I just call them the redheads), Mel & Mike, Michael & Mark, Kisha & Jen and finally, coming in last was Christie & Jodi.
Check Out KINGS Tonight on NBC

I know this post is a bit redundant as I’ve already included KINGS in Tonight’s TV Spotlight, but I wanted to give it some extra loveage because I’m hoping that y’all will give it a go tonight. I’ve seen the first four episodes and while the show is a lot to take on, and a bit daunting out of the gate I think if you give it some time you’ll find it as intriguing as I do.
We’ll be talking about the show tomorrow here on GMMR so I’m hoping you’ll make the investment in watching tonight so you can partake in the conversation we’ll be having tomorrow.
KINGS airs its 2-hour series premiere starting at 8pm on NBC tonight.

Tell me: what do you guys want to know? You know I’ll be trying to get some scoop on how the rest of the season is going to play out, but I wanted the GMMR SPN fandom to have the opportunity to contribute their own questions.
Leave your questions in the comments section below and I’ll do my best to get you some answers. Don’t forget to check back on Wednesday to read the interview!
SMALLVILLE: Infamous

Hey GMMRers it’s been awhile but finally after a few weeks on hiatus Smallville has returned along with some juicy news as well! While on a long break word around the web is that two of our show’s stars will be killed off by the end of the season. So I thought today I would hit the highlights of last night’s episode and see who you guys are putting your money on? Now on to the latest happenings on Smallville with a guest appearance by the devious Linda Lake played by Tori Spelling.
The episode entitled Infamous brought Clark to the realization that the world isn’t quit ready to find out who the red-blue blur is after all. Forced into exposing himself by Linda Lake, Clark’s whole world becomes affected by the announcement as well as the lives of Chloe, Jimmy and Lois. The H2O queen shows up right after Lois arrives back to Metropolis. Lake wants Clark to give him the inside scoop on all the city’s happenings and if he doesn’t she’ll publish the truth behind Clark Kent. Beating her to the punch Clark decides to reveal his true identity to the world and gives the exclusive story to Lois to publish! After Lois laughs at Clark he tells her all about his true identity after lifting up a desk then catching her in his arms. The storyline was definitely an unexpected surprise.
30 ROCK: Funcooker

Yay! How much do you want a Funcooker? Just knowing it’s named after Tracy’s backside would probably be enough for me, although the prospect of microwaving food in the same shower in which I am simultaneously bathing is a pretty sweet bonus. Mmmm…bathroom food…
Let’s start off by putting this one in the win column for the season, for sheer lunacy alone, and also for the callback to Liz’s previously foolproof jury duty escape plan: a Princess Leia costume that’s ingeniously capped off with a Yoda voice. Except: oops! She’s in New York City now, where a jury of her peers will include one person dressed in Christmas lights, one preteen boy wearing a fake mustache, two tight-faced elderly twins, a woman carrying a dog wrapped up like a baby, and what appear to be a couple of homeless people. (As a current resident of New York City, I will say: all plausible. Princess Leia: apparently also plausible.) Plus I am a sucker for any episode that can tie together three seemingly disparate plots and work in all (or most) of the cast, and then wrap it up by teaching Liz Lemon a valuable life lesson that she is able to forget in under two minutes.

Saturday is not known for its stellar TV lineup, so around here it’s movie night. Last Saturday was all about the Apatow boys. This week it’s the first lady of the big screen – Julia Roberts. Believe it or not, TBS isn’t airing “Pretty Woman” tonight – I thought that movie was on at least once a day. Instead we are offering some of Julia’s other big screen flicks. As all three movies are airing at the same time you’ll have to choose one…unless you’re particularly crafty with the remote. Do you have a favorite Julia Roberts movie?
Erin Brockovich | 8pm on Encore
A law clerk researching a client’s health case stumbles on a cover-up of a contaminated water supply in a desert town. Starring: Julia Roberts, Albert Finney, Aaron Eckhart, Marg Helgenberger, Cherry Jones
Notting Hill | 8pm on ABC Family
A ordinary man’s life changes when an international star walks into his bookshop. But can their relationship survive her stardom? After all, she’s just a girl asking a boy…nah, too cheesy. Starring: Julia Roberts, Hugh Grant, Hugh Bonneville, Emma Chambers, James Dreyfus
Charlie Wilson’s War | 8pm on Cinemax
A congressman, a socialite and a CIA agent are instrumental to the funding of freedom fighters working against the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Based on a book by George Crile. Starring: Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams, Ned Beatty
Saturday Night Live | 11:30pm on NBC
30 ROCK star and former Saturday Night Live regular, Tracy Morgan, returns to his old stomping grounds but this time to host. Joining Tracy will be musical guest, the original American Idol – Kelly Clarkson. Julia Roberts will not be appearing…well as least as far as I know.

THE OFFICE: Golden Ticket

Michael Scott tried his best at being Willy Wonka but ended up looking more like a bad Oompa Loompa in last night’s episode of THE OFFICE.
After devising a marketing plan to place Golden Tickets offering major discounts into random boxes of paper goes horribly awry, Michael sets up Dwight to take the fall with Corporate. But when the mishap is turned on its ear resulting in a financial windfall for Dunder Mifflin, Dwight takes the credit for Michael’s idea. When the lies are revealed, any good will David Wallace had for Michael in light of recent branch performance was seemingly erased setting up a major plotline that will play out over the course of the rest of the season.
Meanwhile, Kevin is contemplating his next move with the woman he met at the Lonely Hearts Party, but when he gets conflicting bad advice from Jim, Andy and Pam, he’s left a muddled mess.
SUPERNATURAL: Death Takes a Holiday
March 13, 2009 by Nicole
Filed under #1 featured, Posts by Nicole, Supernatural
It’s been a good long while since we’ve had a new episode of Supernatural, but our show has returned, and even better, so has Castiel!! Also making a return? Tessa, the Reaper from “In My Time of Dying” who was about to take comatose Dean into the afterlife before John made the infamous deal with the devil to save his son’s life. In addition to Tessa and Castiel, this episode also marks the return (and swan song) of randy psychic Pamela Barnes who reluctantly agrees to help the boys in their quest for astral projection (bye bye Pamela, we’ll miss your double entendres). To top it all off, Alastair is back, in a couple of different incarnations. Whew! And I haven’t even mentioned little Shane Botwin from WEEDS making an appearance as Cole, a young boy who helps the brothers in their efforts to stop Alastair from breaking another seal. Incidentally, IMDb lists Kaley Cuoco from The Big Bang Theory as a guest in this episode, but clearly that was a mistake unless she was hiding out in the background somewhere.
This was a nice, juicy character and story-driven episode that added a new twist to the inevitable battle of the titans we’ve all been gearing up for. The tension that’s been building between Sam and Dean all season is out in the open now and the boys are coping with it as best they can without really acknowledging that their differences are increasing and could ultimately pit them against one another. After “Bobby” (aka Castiel imitating Bobby on the phone) informs the brothers of a town where people have been living through events that would seem impossible, they head over to see what’s goin’ on.
Even though it was a fairly heavy and emotional episode, we did get some pretty hilarious exchanges. A selection:
- Sam: I know you want to think of yourself as Joe the Plumber, Dean, but you’re not. Neither am I.
Dean: Joe the Plumber was a douche.
- Dean (in astral projection mode, with his fist shoved through Sam’s chest): Am I making you uncomfortable?
Sam: Get out of me
Dean: Prude
- Dean: How the hell are we supposed to fight that?
Sam: I don’t know, learn some ghost moves?
Dean: By tonight? Yeah sure, I’ll meet you back at Mr. Miyagi’s house (sweep the leg, Dean!)
