Jim Cramer on THE DAILY SHOW with Jon Stewart

March 13, 2009 by
Filed under #1 featured, The Daily Show

Jon Stewart might be at the helm of a fake news show but there is no denying he’s one hell of an interviewer. I don’t mean to oversell the importance of Stewart but if our traditional journalists were doing the job that Stewart is, at least in terms of this interview with CNBC’s Jim Cramer we would all be better off. Forget about the comedy, this was an amazing piece of journalism.

Can Jim Cramer comeback from this interview? Honestly, I’m not sure. His credibility was so shot down by Stewart that I’m not sure he can survive this. Jon Stewart was credited for taking down CNN’s CROSSFIRE with just one appearance, has he done it again?

John Krasinski on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno

A completely self indulgent John Krasinski post. But to be fair, it’s been a while, hasn’t it? This time, it’s not just superfluous – John Krasinski will be a guest on THE TONIGHT SHOW tonight at 11:35pm on NBC. See, there was a point to my post, it’s just not all about posting hot pictures of Krasinski. But since you asked…

UPDATE…here’s John’s March 13, 2009 appearance.

Tonight’s TV Spotlight…Friday, March 13, 2009

I love the internet. I do. But you know when I hate the internet? The day after a night in which you missed a ton of TV. Last night yours truly was babysitting and wasn’t able to catch much in the way of television. I missed GREY’S, PRIVATE PRACTICE, 30 ROCK, and was only able to half watch THE OFFICE (ugh). So how am I suppose to go to my usual internet haunts without being spoiled. It’s like I’m walking through a landmine of spoilers. Yikes!

And if my DVR wasn’t stacked up enough with shows from last Friday (BSG and DOLLHOUSE!), tonight I’m heading to NYC for the weekend for my friend’s wedding (Congrats KG!). Not sure when I’ll be back on Sunday but I’ll try to play catch up then.

My apologies if I’ve fallen a bit behind here on GMMR. Sometimes real life gets in the way of this funny little side hobby of mine. Hopefully things will get back on track next week. At the advice of Ducky I’m not going to stress. It’s just TV…wait, did I just say that?! Ha ha! Thanks for your patience and understanding!

Now on tonight’s TV…

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles | 8pm on Fox
“Today is the Day”
Jesse has a flashback to a mission aboard her submarine, the Jimmy Carter; John and Sarah make plans to leave their house.

Friday Night Lights | 9pm on NBC
“Game of the Week”
Dillon is in the spotlight when the Panthers’ game is selected as the nationally televised game of the week; Riggins decides whether to meet with a college coach; Tyra sees the truth about Cash and finds herself in a desperate situation.

Dollhouse | 9pm on Fox
“True Believer”
Imprinted as a visually impaired woman, Echo must infiltrate a cult to rescue a woman being held against her will.

Battlestar Galactica | 10pm on Sci Fi
“Daybreak”

In Part 1 of the 2 part series finale (ugh), Admiral Bill Adama calls for volunteers for a final mission. Who will volunteer to risk their lives for Galactica?

The Tonight Show | 11:35pm on NBC
Tonight’s Jay Leno welcomes American Idol’s Kara DioGuardi, Randy Travis and some hick named John Krasinski…never heard of him! And by that I mean YAY!! It’s been a while since Krasinski has hit the talk show circuit.

Also Playing…

  • Ghost Whisperer | 8pm on CBS: Sam has a brush with death when he saves Melinda from mortal danger.
  • Flashpoint | 9pm on CBS: The team discovers that the federal agent they are working with during the transport of a serial killer is secretly sabotaging their mission.
  • Numb3rs | 10pm on CBS: The team gets a last-minute tip that could exonerate a dangerous mob boss who is about to be executed; Charlie tries to help the CalSci basketball team break their losing streak.

George Clooney Returns to ER

March 13, 2009 by
Filed under #1 featured, TV News

In case you missed it, George Clooney returned to ER last night. Dr. Doug Ross is now happily married to Nurse Carol Hathaway and together they are working in a hospital in Seattle. It was nice to see the two of the reunited last night, but there was another reunion that made me even happier – that of Dr. John Carter (Noah Wyle) and Dr. Peter Benton (Eriq LaSale).  The surgeon and his former mentee always had an amazing relationship and a strong bond, and all that was present in the scenes they shared in last night’s episode.

As somsone who watched the show religiously back in its early days, and not so much since then, it was nice to turn on the TV and see some familiar faces.

If you missed it, here’s a scene with Benton and Carter, and then all the Clooney you can handle this time of day.

More Clooney highlights after the jump…

BONES: The Bones That Foam

March 13, 2009 by
Filed under #1 featured, Bones, Posts by Sarah (Seels)

Trust BONES to have the line “Everyone knows you don’t touch the monkey” and have it be about an ACTUAL monkey. And here’s the thing. I love the show, BONES. There has been a lot of criticism of the episodes this season (and some from me, I admit), but I really do love it. Cheers to David Boreanaz for a very smooth BONES directorial debut, and I was pleased that DB wasn’t absent from this episode. But I was the most pleased with the way the entire cast was used in the episode.

THE CASE:
A bungee-jumping bride and groom see a decomposing body (very gross…maybe one of the grossest ever in four seasons, what say you?), but when the team gets it back to the lab, there are a few complications. Namely that the bones are foaming, and, all of the evidence is evaporating, and, the alarms keep going off. So yeah, complications. Meanwhile, Booth and Brennan have to dig deep into the world of car salesmen to try and crack this case. I liked this case; I thought it was pretty creative. Oh, and did I mention the victim’s remains ALSO caught on fire?

THE SQUINTS:

  • Mr. Nigel Murray: I love him. I really do. I love his facts and brains and accent, and I just think he’s great. Tonight was no different.
  • Hodgins: He’s the undisputed King of the Lab. Was this episode super sciencey or what? Just like I like it, and Hodgins didn’t disappoint. I LOVED when he and MNM were trying to let Cam let them get the body out of the plastic tube thing.

Not too long ago I got the distinct pleasure of heading to Los Angeles to watch the final three, yet to be aired episodes of PUSHING DAISIES at the private cast and crew screening.  It was a true honor to be invited and I was proud to represent ThePieMaker.com as well as PUSHING DAISIES fans everywhere!

It was an excellent night as I was able to catch up with some PUSHING DAISIES friends and revel in the final three episodes of this magnificent show.  I wish you could have all been there.

I wanted to share with all of you some of the highlights from the cast & crew screening as well as some pics and video I was able to snag.

We are also going to be sharing some spoilerific reviews of the final three episodes.  Yes there are spoilers and teasers, but we aren’t giving away the daisy field (so to speak). Some of the special moments will be kept hush hush so you can better enjoy the episodes as they air.  But for those of you spoilertarians out there, you’ll want to stay away.

So follow the links below to ThePieMaker.com and get the latest scoop.  The reviews for the final two episodes will be coming soon so keep checking back.

EXCLUSIVE: PUSHING DAISIES Final Screening

PUSHING DAISIES: “Window Dressed to Kill” – EXCLUSIVE

For those of you lucky enough to attend the PUSHING DAISIES screening at Paley in April you’ll see the last three hours of the series.  For the rest of you, you’ll have to wait until ABC decides they want to air them.  If they air them.  Creator Bryan Fuller is hoping ABC will finally screen the eps sometime this summer but no firm commitment has been given.  What a shame. Please continue to reach out to ABC and tell them that you want your PUSHING DAISIES!

P.S. If you’re going to be at Paley let me know. I’ll be there.

PRIVATE PRACTICE – Who’s Your Daddy? Poll

Filed under #1 featured, Private Practice

On tonight’s episode of PRIVATE PRACTICE, both Pete and Sheldon are pressuring Violet to get a paternity test to find out which one of them are the father of her unborn baby.

Question is…who would YOU rather have as the father?

Sheldon, while a bit nerdy and neurotic but seems to really care for Violet. He’s said that he doesn’t want kids but he seems to be coming around.

Pete, has been really on edge since he heard of the baby, but I think he truly wants to be the father. But will he want a relationship with Violet too?

Check out two baby drama scenes from tonight’s episode.

So vote below and let us know who YOU think would be the better father for Violet’s baby. (And no, you can’t vote for Cooper…no matter how much you wish it were true, he’s not in the running. Sadly.)

Leave a comment and let us know why you voted the way you did. Who would make the better father?

It’s a BIG night for TV.  Are you ready? Can you handle it?

All arrows are pointing to George Clooney‘s return to ER tonight.  Mr. Clooney must have made some deal that prohibited ER from promoting his return because there is nothing to be gained by not telling the world he’s going to be on.  The promos suggest that all the doctor’s will be back tonight. I haven’t watched ER is years and I know I’ll be tuning in, will you?

And if that wasn’t enough we’ve also got new episodes of THE OFFICE and 30 ROCK. If it wasn’t for that damn KATH & KIM I’d probably be tuned into NBC all night.

Fandoms around the globe will be happy for new episodes of BONES, SMALLVILLE & SUPERNATURAL all which seem to have the most random schedules. At least we know BONES will be back for 11 episodes in a row. That’s huge. GMMR will have reviews of all of these shows tomorrow, so make sure you come back and check them out.

I don’t want to hear any complaining that there’s nothing on to watch…check out just a few of the shows airing new episodes tonight.

Bones| 8pm on Fox
“The Bones That Foam”
While bungee jumping, a couple discover a corpse at the bottom of a gorge; the lab is thrown into lockdown when an unknown substance begins oozing from the corpse. [GMMR: Did you see BONES on the cover of TV Guide? Holy hotness. ]

Smallville | 8pm on The CW
“Infamous”
Linda Lake (Tori Spelling) returns to Metropolis and threatens to expose Clark’s secret unless he gives her an exclusive on the red-blue blur; Clark, refusing to be blackmailed, tells Lois his secret and asks her to write his story.

Survivor: Tocantins | 8pm on CBS
“You’re Going to Want that Tooth”

An overzealous castaway risks it all in the immunity challenge and pays with a tooth, while another castaway finds himself in hot water for not performing during the challenge. [GMMR: Hey SURVIVOR fans – do you want us to cover the show in the next TV TALK PODCAST? Leave a comment and let me know. ]

Ugly Betty | 8pm on ABC
“A Mother of a Problem”
Things don’t go as expected when Betty meets Matt’s mother (Christine Baranski); the Suarez family secretly tries to set Hilda up with Archie (Ralph Macchio). [GMMR: Sweep the leg!]

The Office | 9pm on NBC
“Golden Ticket”
Michael comes up with an idea that causes a huge problem in the office; Pam, Jim and Andy each give Kevin different advice on wooing a woman. [GMMR: Glad to see that Andy is back from his honeymoons. We missed you, Nard Dog!]

Supernatural | 9pm on The CW
Death Takes a Holiday”
Sam and Dean investigate a town where people are cheating death and discover that the Reapers have gone missing. [GMMR: I have nothing to add here other than I just watched a promo and those Winchester boys are damn easy on the eyes.]

Grey’s Anatomy | 9pm on ABC
“I Will Follow You Into the Dark”
Derek decides to quit after learning that more of his patients have died than survived; Izzie’s interns make an unsettling discovery about “Patient X.” [GMMR: Oh no! Might Derek leave Seattle Grace? Will Patrick Dempsey leave the show? The suspense is killing me! (/sarcasm)]

30 Rock | 9:30pm on NBC
“The Funcooker”
The TGS cast and crew are left unmanaged when Liz can’t get out of jury duty; Jack gets absorbed in launching a new product. [GMMR: The promos for this episode look hilarious. I’m already excited for Leia Lemon.]

Private Practice | 10pm on ABC
“Finishing”
Addison flirts with a colleague at St. Ambrose Hospital; Sheldon and Pete try to convince Violet to take a paternity test; Sam accidentally calls Sonya by the wrong name. [GMMR: Not for nothing but how about a story line for Piz?!]

ER | 10pm on NBC
“Old Times”
Neela and Sam are stunned when they return to the airport with transplant organs, only to find their plane left without them; Dr. Carter (Noah Wyle) gets a surprise visit from an old friend (Eriq La Salle) while waiting for his kidney transplant. [GMMR: Why do I feel that if Clooney is on is will only be in one scene? Let’s hope not.]

Who Went Home on AMERICAN IDOL?

UPDATE: Looking to find who went home on IDOL? Click here for tonight’s shocking results: Who Went Home on AMERICAN IDOL? (March 11, 2010)

——————-

PREVIOUS POST

This first official booting of the 8th season of AMERICAN IDOL and tonight’s it’s two for the price of one.  Which two IDOL hopefuls will be going home tonight? My guess what Jasmine and Megan.  Was I wright?  Were you? Let’s find out. I’m live blogging tonight’s AMERICAN IDOL.

Big news for IDOL…
Seacrest just informed us of a new rule.  The IDOL judges are allowed ONE save from now up until the Top 5.  This means that if America decides to send someone home and the judges don’t agree with the verdict, the judges can vote to veto America’s vote.  But they only get one veto for the whole season.  And when the veto is used, the next week two IDOL wannabes will be offed.

Interesting.  I’m going to have to think about how I feel about this one.  I think I kind of like it since America has got it wrong so often in the past. What do you think?

Welcome to Casa de Idol…
The IDOLS are once again shacking up.  In the early seasons the contestants were all living together in harmony under one roof. Tales of drama and sexcapades plagued the contestants in the tabloids but none of that ever made it to the show itself (thankfully). In later seasons the contestants weren’t required to live together but for some reasons the producers thought they need to do it again.  I don’t really see the point of having them live together. This isn’t The Real World.  And what about Jasmine and Allison?  Are these teens now living with guys in their 20’s? Bizarre.

9:15pm
– The recap of last night’s performances, a cheesy group performance and the (ugh) Ford music video take up a good ten minutes. The IDOLS are excited. Wait until they have to do that every week.

9:17pm – The first set of results are in. Keep reading after the jump to find out who went home.

AMERICAN IDOL: Top 13 Performances

The Top 13 is finally here.  Did the right people make it through? Will someone standout tonight? Will we hear about Danny’s dead wife? THIS is American Idol.

Welcome to the non-live, live blog.  I’ll be live blogging as I go but since I’m watching an hour behind it won’t be quite live for those of you reading.

The judges got a fancy entrance tonight.  Don’t they take up enough time on this show?  Paula is looking especially drag queeny tonight. She really needs to fire her stylists.

Simon tells us that these 13 singers will be vying for 11 positions, meaning tomorrow is a double elimination. Hope the kids brought their A-game for Michael Jackson night.

Let’s get to the singing, shall we?

Lil Rounds
1-866-IDOLS-01
Song: The Way You Make Me Feel
My Thoughts: Fantasia was pretty good tonight.  Oh wait, my bad…this is Lil.  She was ok too.  Not as good as she was last week.  This girl can sing no doubt, but I think she is better than this performance.  I didn’t hate it at all, but this wasn’t the right song for her voice.

Judges: Randy loved the bluesy vibe to it. Kara can’t wait to hear her on the radio. Paula thought it was like angels singing. Simon thought it was good but thought it was a little lazy. He thought the second half was better than the first.

Scott MacIntyre
1-866-IDOLS-02
Song: Keep the Faith
My Thoughts: There’s been a lot of talk about how Scott was really going to shine once he was able to sit behind the piano.  I think the talk was right. Scott’s performance was waaay more vocally interesting than what we heard in the previous round. He sounded contemporary and strong. I wasn’t sure that Scott made it through totally on his vocals, but at this point it’s all about giving it your all, and I personally was impressed.

Judges: Kara harped on the hopeful message that Scott delivers.  Stop Kara! Judge him on his performance. Paula thought it was lovely. Simon hated it because nobody knows it. I get what he’s saying – by choosing a song that’s not familiar with the voting public it might make it hard to remember.  But it’s got to be frustrating when the judges constantly give conflicting feedback on what type of song the contestants should sing. Simon said it’s fine to be artistic but not on this show. Huh? Randy thought the performance was good but old fashioned.

Danny Gokey
1-866-IDOLS-03
Song: P.Y.T.
My Thoughts: The way the song started I thought it was going to be a disaster. But when he kicked into the melody it was a lot of fun.  He owned that stage. Great interaction with the audience.  A fantastic performance! I loved it. (But the boy needs some dance lessons).

Judges: Paula overly gushed and predicted he’ll be in the finals. She makes me like him less. Simon thought the vocals were brilliant and he really (x3) liked him tonight. Randy loved it all!! Kara felt his joy (don’t be dirty).

Michael Sarver
1-866-IDOLS-04

Song:
You Are Not Alone
My Thoughts: Another performer who sounded much better tonight than he had in previous rounds. Before his performance I had Michael Sarver ready to hang out in the bottom two, but I thought his vocals while not perfect were much, much better than I expected. Am I just in a good mood?

Judges: Simon thought he had passion and heart and gave it 110%. Randy thinks he’s one of the best. Kara thought he did a great job and after tonight he proved that he can really sing. Paula babbled on about something, but it was all positive.

HOUSE: The Social Contract

March 10, 2009 by
Filed under #1 featured, House, House Recap, Posts by Erik

As a reformed high school debate nerd, I was overwhelmed with flashbacks after seeing the title of this episode. For eager young minds who are desperate to assert their intellectual superiority, few topics brought out more first class blowhard behavior than the various theories regarding the Social Contract. Though many of history’s most admired thinkers offered their own provisions of this imaginary agreement, my personal favorite came from an English philosopher named John Locke. Though he lacked the experiences of being confined to a wheelchair and participating in a walkabout, Locke possessed enough wisdom to prescribe an individual’s role within a larger society. While Locke believed in the freedom of each person, he theorized that rational people would curtail some of their liberties in order to resolve conflicts in a civil manner.

This week’s House delved into the broad landscape of how we treat each other in routine social situations. Faced with a patient who had surrendered the ability to reconcile his selfish thoughts with his familial discretion, the good doctor was thrust into a strenuous renegotiation about the pact signed by best friends. Writer Doris Egan threaded these stories into an impassioned exploration about the schism between one’s duty to self and duty to others.

My “blogmance” with House & Wilson’s chemistry has been blatantly obvious all season. Television friendships are rarely compelling to watch in both subtle and heightened moments, but Hugh Laurie and Robert Sean Leonard have mastered those scenes, along with all points in between. After learning his homeless brother Danny had resurfaced after thirteen years, Wilson took elaborate steps to keep House out of the loop. Using Taub as a racquetball alibi was a fun device for generating comedy, and likely served as the first time a TV show has ever presented a racket sport inside of a morgue. Once the laughs had subsided and Wilson’s true story emerged, the rest of the story gave us two men, stripped of any pretext, trying to express their concerns in patently different ways. Though House may never know the right thing to say, he appears to have a knack for being where Wilson needs him to be. Rather than accept the conventional wisdom that we are all supposed to follow the same rules, Wilson welcomes the dysfunction of his best friend, contract or no contract.

CHUCK vs. The Lethal Weapon

March 10, 2009 by
Filed under #1 featured, Chuck, Chuck Recaps, Posts by SB

So, I’ll be honest … last night’s episode was hard to watch! And it wasn’t that it was bad, because it wasn’t—I really liked it. It was just so sad and awkward, you know? Not necessarily what I’m used to with Chuck, but you know I like it when they switch it up, so hopefully that first statement didn’t sound worse than I meant it.

Here’s the thing … I know I liked the Buy More plot, and I remember being really cracked up by some little soliloquy of Lester’s, but I cannot for the life of me remember what it was. I know that Morgan said, “Laugh it up, fuzzball!” which is one of my all-time favorite Star Wars quotes (nerd alert!), but details are kind of escaping me right now because so much happened on the spy side. Forgive me, and please help me in rehashing all the fun details in the comments.

Also, did anyone watch Heroes after Chuck? I think I may be the only GMMRer still loving Heroes, but I got extra super excited when Claire went into the comic book store to apply for a job, and all the comic book nerds were staring at her, and two of said nerds were Buy More employees! It was the kid with the red fro and the heavy guy who was wearing a Jeffster shirt. Yay! Apparently when you’re on the NBC lot and in need of a geek, you just go pick one up at the Buy More!

Oh, ALSO, do you guys remember that episode with Gary Cole where they played the most amazing song ever at the end, and I fell madly in love with it and downloaded it and wouldn’t shut up about it? Yeah, it was called “Furr” by Blitzen Trapper. Anyway, I immediately started loving the first song they played in this episode and I was fairly certain it was the same band, so I just went to the Chuck website and sure enough, it was. And dammit all if this show is not going to end up giving me a new favorite band. I am in a certain amount of love.

24 Debrief: Day 7 | 9:00 pm-10:00 pm

This week featured a fan favorite making his farewell, the saddest sight imaginable and one character in quite the pickle. Let’s get started before I inhale some nerve toxins and go to sleepyland.

Debrief

  • General Juma makes President Taylor read a confession of her crimes against Sangala on a live internet feed. She was interrupted when…
  • Jack told Bill that there were explosives in the President’s safe room. Jack was planning on going in and drawing a stray bullet to the explosives, taking out all of the Sangalese henchmen. Bill then told Jack that he knows that Juma has someone working on the outside, who we all know is Jonas Hodges. Bill tells Jack he’s the only one who can find the mystery man helping Juma and runs into the safe room, killing himself in the process.
  • Vice President Wussypants Hayworth, even after the explosion, refuses to take action. Larry and Renee lead the team into the White House against Hayworth’s orders. They, along with Jack and Aaron, kill most of the henchmen and Jack kills Gen. Juma.
