I think I love the show BONES most for the friendships it showcases. So I’m going to shake up this review a bit, and focus on some of the ‘ships we all love and give a special shout out to Ms. Camille. But first of all…

THE CASE: Brennan and Booth are called to a local reserve where a body has been mangled by wild animals. Totally disgusting, totally BONES (and a Pinky and the Brain reference…canNOT go wrong there, am I right?), and totally within the first few minutes of the episode. But it gets more interesting when the body is revealed to be that of Cam’s former fiancée, Dr. Welton. Suspects include an overinvolved benefactress, a competing hospital admin, a career-jilted silver spooner, and the ex-husband of a woman who died on Dr. W’s operating table. I was surprised by the actual killer. Not sure if that means the writers fooled me, or if they pulled it out of left field as a crappy plot device. Thoughts?

THE ‘SHIPS: First of all, in lieu of a ‘squint’ section…how funny was Clark? Haha. I could have done without Angela’s rambling on and on about him (actually, I could have done without any of Angela’s rambling on in this episode. What has it been, like 0.2 seconds of celibacy? Get over it! Anyways….) Clark was funny, and I liked when he brought his GF in to the lab. What were your thoughts on that hypnosis section? Kind of weird, right? I don’t think I liked it. Felt like a stretch to me, realism wise. And kind of out of character for Sweets, I guess.

  • Booth + Brennan:
Not much B+B tonight (but how about next week. Uh, shove me up against the wall, Seeley Booth!), but I actually LOVED that. Evidence, Booth asks Brennan to trust him about something…and she does. Simple as that. Good stuff.

  • Booth and Cam:
This has been one of my all time fave story arcs of the season, and I liked the way Booth supported Cam and stood up for her.
  • Brennan and Cam:
This one TOTALLY surprised me, in a good way. Of course, though, I shouldn’t have been surprised. Brennan would take an interest in Michelle’s welfare, that makes sense. They way she put her hand on Cam’s…well, that’s character growth.
  • Hodgins and Angela:
Hodgins could be all over her randy butt if he wanted, but he was cool enough to stay aloof (that we know of). That’s friendshippy. Again, Angela annoyed the heck out of me in this episode, so I’m not in the mood to talk more about her, really.
  • Angela and Brennan:
Okay, I’ll talk a little more about her. I do love their fractured conversations where meaning gets lost in the middle, haha, and I laughed a lot tonight with the conversation with Cam, where they discuss cheating.
  • Dr. Camille Saroyan:
I know I’ve been down on Cam this season, or at least the people who write Cam’s character, but tonight she was radiant! Tamara Taylor was Empress of the Lab tonight and despite a TON of close-ups, she managed to keep up the sympathy factor. I thought some of the exposition in the beginning of the episode was a little forced, like the pilot episode, you know? But I guess they had to build up the storyline. And Dana David was excellent as Michelle, don’t you agree? I’m hoping we see MUCH more of her. I liked how the episode ended with Cam and Michelle. I also liked seeing Cam’s vulnerability. And I liked when she called Brennan out on ‘feelings’ of trust vs. trust in past events re: Booth. (Although I actually liked that Brennan said she trusts Booth because of past events).

But what do you think? Did you like the episode? If you haven’t yet, check out the April Fool’s joke from the BONES set…very, very funny!

i was telling the girl i worked with a little about last night’s show and I was blown away at how much I have come to care about Cam. i used to HATE her and last night I felt like I was halfway teared up the whole time. And then scene at the end just KILLED me! I thought she did an awesome job throughout the entire episode. I thought the hypnosis thing was a little wonky too. I think maybe they just wanted to have lots of wild animals running around. Also, if anyone hypnotized me, I would never be able to come up with oval face, high cheekbones, and the like. I would be – um, her face was round and she had eyes. i would be an awful witness, I think.

As for Angela – yeah, I got a little tired of her constant need for sex. I mean does she never have a drought? Seriously? And when Clark brought his girlfriend in, I seriously expected Angela to start hitting on her too and then Clark would run for his life. That would’ve been funny.

And while I know there wasn’t a lot of Booth & Bones, I did see the previews for next week and wow! that looked hot.

    Thanks for the recap

My one and only Bones tweet last night read “Damn it. Bones made me actually care about Cam this week.” Normally she bugs me if she’s used more heavily in an episode, but last night was great. The end scene almost got me teared up, when Michelle walked out of the room – we all knew she was coming back, but Cam’s reaction was heartbreaking when she got up to leave. Remind me what I’ve seen the actress who plays Michelle in before? I can’t remember.

I was over the whole Angela thing the second time they brought it up, cute/funny the first time. 75 times later? Overkill. Good on Hodgens that he didn’t give in though. Didn’t love the whole hypnosis deal, though I will say I was surprised to see that Chad Lowe WASN’T the killer. When most shows cast a “hey it’s that guy….” actor it usually ends up being them. Don’t know if I’d call it a curveball, but it was a nice change of pace.

Booth standing up for Cam was a mmm mmm mmm yummy, his whole “and now she’s a federal blahblahblah so show some respect” line somehow managed to make David B that much sexier, which is hard to do.

Next week’s episode looks like a good one, can’t wait to see it.

I really enjoyed last night’s episode- I wasn’t sure if I was going to or not. I’ve never really disliked Cam like some people have- but that may be because I didn’t start watching Bones until season 3. But I liked the change of pace- focusing on a different character than usual. It turned out really well.

And yes I cant wait to see next weeks episode 😛

Angela annoyed me from start to finish.

When you make a co-worker so uncomfortable they feel the need to bring in their significant other you have gone way over the line.

    She should have been suspended.

Who better to be there than Clark, tough, when Angela is horny and all kinds of inappropriate? I wonder if the writers have been that clever with that rotation in the past?

I think Clark was awesome. Overall I liked this ep, Angela didn’t really bug me.

To answer your question about hypnosis… we totally just talked about this in class last week… there is no concrete evidence that hypnosis will help people remember things about a situation that they were not paying attention to. I don’t think that whole scene would have bugged me as much if we hadn’t discussed it, but the show lost me there for a while. It gave a few sight gags, but that was about it.

Just one thing….are we really supposed to believe that Angela doesn’t already own some “manual assistance devices” to deal with this issue?! Really?

Cam is my girl, I’ve been saying it forever!
FINALLY they use this incredible talent! How great was she, really?!

I agree this ep really showcased the friendships. I love that they went back to the Booth/Cam friendship. And Sweets and Angela are hilarious together (as long as she continues to keep his hands off him, thankyouverymuch), but I CAN’T say that I liked the whole hypnosis scene. Weird, sure – like Angela’s own session was, but this one was too over the top. The hubby looked over at me and said, “This is stupid,” and I had to agree with him. And I hate to do that!!

I LOVED Cam’s portion of the ep, that whole story. But whenever they cut to the others, something didn’t jive right for me. It was like things were TOO disconnected. A have to use Clark bringing his GF to the lab. I just don’t find why that was necessary. OR why this stranger was giving Angela advice on sex toys.

*snickers* Seriously, this is Angela. I agree with Sara V. Does this woman REALLY need advice on such things? I doubt it.

I was floored by Brennan’s conversation with Cam, and her comforting her with a hand over hers. I’d like to think that is shows her evolving, I just hope that she’s going to keep moving foreward, and that the writers won’t have her take two steps back in the next ep.
