24 Debrief: Day 7 | 3:00am - 4:00am - Give Me My Remote : Give Me My Remote

24 Debrief: Day 7 | 3:00am – 4:00am

April 28, 2009 by

This episode felt like good ol’ “24.” Let’s get started before Jack tells me to, “GO WHINE SOMEPLACE ELSE.”

Debrief

  • Tony shows up to Galvez’s apartment. Money has been paid to Galvez. When Tony goes to get the canister, it isn’t there. Galvez wants to know who is buying/using the canister. Tony kills him for…being a nuisance? The woman who posed as Hodges’ lawyer visits Tony. She says that “the group” needs that canister to create more pathogen. Tony says the best plan would be to use the canister today instead of six months from now, like “the group” is planning. After talking on a very creepy conference call, they agree unanimously to go through with Tony’s plan.
  • The agents got Hodges to the hospital in time for him to not die. He’s in lockdown at the FBI. Jack figures that “the group” is using Hodges’ family as leverage. Jack tells the President to offer Hodges a deal for protection. They fake his death. Hodges tells Jack that, even though he doesn’t know any names, he knows that “the group” was planning on framing sleeper cells to show the need for their government contracts to stand up against the courts. The woman who posed as Hodges’ lawyer was the lynchpin to it all. Jack convinces the President to go forward on the premise that Tony and “the group” will attack today.
  • Jack needs the old CTU servers to keep up with Tony. Only one person knows how to use them…CHLOE! She tells Morris to take Prescott and leave and she goes to the FBI. When she gets there, Jack tells her everything…except that he’s dying. Janis is being how Chloe used to be and Jack yells at her for it. He mixes up Presidents Taylor and Palmer in his tirade, which clues Chloe in on the fact that Jack isn’t well.

  • Olivia is ticked about her mother giving the pardon to Hodges. She tells Aaron as much and goes on to say that she would like to see him dead. She calls a politico friend of hers to talk about just that.
  • Tony and his crew invade the apartment of Jabran Al-Zarian, the civilian with no sleeper cell ties they plan on framing for the pending attack.

Agent Philboy’s Assessment

When Jack and Renee were in the Conference room with all of the agents talking over the plan, it really felt like old “24.” I wanted Nina breaking it down for everyone, and Chloe being the lone voice of dissension, with Edgar arguing with her like the old married couple they were. It made me miss the old days, but it also made me incredibly excited for these last few episodes.

This ominous group that is controlling everything could get annoying, but I don’t think so. I’m loving the fact that they are all anonymous and that we get to see only little bits and pieces of everything. I hope that they don’t stay so mysterious, though, and that we get the answers…unless they could be used as a jumping point to next season. What if this group of people is the “24” answer to “FULCRUM” on “Chuck?” They just keep striking. It might not work with “24”s format, but it might. Plus, having Wil Patton on board of next season would be fantastic.

Yes, indeed, kids, we saw two very welcome returns this week. First of all, Aaron is back in full swing as Olivia’s babysitter. He could either stop her from doing whatever she’s doing, die trying, or let her do it but make her deal with the consequences. I love Aaron, so I don’t want to see him go too dark.

And, this week we saw Chloe come back, finally. Her scene with Morris and Prescott was sweet. Just the right amount of emotion, and lack thereof, to make me believe it. Much to my father’s chagrin, they needed a reason to bring Chloe back and digging the old CTU servers conveniently out of storage is just the thing to bring her back plausibly. Jack’s blowup was fantastic and will hopefully get Janis on board.

What I Learned…

  • Aaron doesn’t take crap from anyone.
  • It doesn’t matter if he’s on death’s door, if Jack says do it, do it.
  • Voice modulation software makes anyone’s voice sound cooler.
  • The government can stage a death just like…umm…CTU used to.
  • Everything old is new again…or at least useful in stopping a former good guy now turned bad guy from blowing us all up.

Weekly Kill Count = 2 Total Kill Count = 362+

Who else was happy about Chloe’s return? Plus, do you think “the group” may return? Or ever get a name?

Philboy is GMMR’s resident Dexter and 24 analyst. He spends his days studying Communications at Purdue University and his nights failing at keeping up with all of the TV shows he loves. His can’t miss shows are “24”, “Chuck” and “How I Met Your Mother.” The thoughts running through his head for this week are, “CHLOE!” and “AARON!”

Sorry to be late in commenting this week again. Chuck took over Monday night so I had to catch up with Jack last night. CHLOE!!!!!!!! My old prediction was that she’d get Kim back from the airport and I’m sticking to it.

I thought I was supposed to know the one Group member that tipped the scales. Have we seen him before?

The man who provided the swing vote was in last week’s episode and asked Jonas’ fake lawyer about Tony. He’s our only true insight into the Group.
