BONES: The Beaver in the Otter

April 30, 2009 by

Please join us in wishing Seeleybaby a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Before I forget, GMMR and I tossed around the idea of doing a live BONES chat NEXT THURSDAY, MAY 7th, at 8PM for The Critic in the Cabernet. We’d all hang out here and watch the episode. Sound like something you’re interested in? Let us know in the comments, and if there is interest, we’ll go for it. Tell your friends.

Tonight’s episode was about brothers. And while there was some of the ’Bros before Hos’ brotherhood going on, it was more about two fine Booth brothers in leather jackets working through some of their own deal. I am glad that Booth and Jared ended (for this episode at least) on good terms. And we also had a montage of Brennan examining bones, the likes of which we haven’t seen since season one. Speaking of season one…well, more on that later…

THE CASE:

During a college pep rally where some school spiriters have hung the costume of their rival’s mascot, the crowd pelts it with all kinds of homemade weapons, and the costume bursts to reveal human remains inside. Pretty gross, but not the grossest ever, for those of you keeping score at home. Turns out the body belongs to James Bouvier aka “Beaver” (even though, as Brennan points out, interestingly enough, “Bouvier” means “ox”. The show makes us smarter, doesn’t it.) It’s up to the team to find out who killed him, where and with what! Was it one of his frat bros? Was it a disgruntled professor of chemistry? Or was it someone else entirely?

THE SQUINTS:

  • Arastoo Vasiri: He’s back as squintern of the week. And apparently Hodgins doesn’t trust Muslims. So Vasiri assists in a ‘shameful’ experiment to build trust. He’s also the one who found the USB and the bullet. And he explains things to Booth very succinctly.
  • Hogdins: I wasn’t feeling him tonight, but I’m going to cut him some slack, because he had to clean the sheets, and as Booth said, “That seems like a bad job to me.”
  • Angela: She was helpful, with scanning in photos, and stuff. She looked very pretty in this episode. And I am sure she and her Toyota Matrix had a good time after she won the game. Paper covers rock. (It is a rock, though. Should beat everything. There’s not a lot of logic to it.)
  • Cam: She’s a wise cracking pathologist with a dark sense of humor. But kind of a wet blanket about the experiment. Boo that!
  • Sweets: Yes! Way to go Sweets, walking out on Brennan like that. Cheers, bro! And while he DID over examine the fraternity (which Dr. Wyatt would tell us is really a reflection on Sweets’ feelings about frats), I did quite enjoy his analysis of Booth and there convo in the FBI building. Ah! Our Magic 8 Ball is growing up!

BOOTH AND BRENNAN

Can we dish on Booth for a bit? Remember in Soldier on the Grave when Booth told Brennan he was trying to balance all of his ‘evil’ with good? I think his relationship with Jared is a microcosm of that whole issue. He wants good for Jared, to combat all the bad his brother has experienced. And yet, I have the feeling Booth is the one with the bad experiences. But Booth is free to do whatever he wants, he says. He lives wide, remember? But I think he really, really, really did consider going to India. And I thought the show was going to go the Sully way and Brennan was going to tell him he should go. But it didn’t and she didn’t. And I think both Booth and Jared knew that Booth would stay, but just being asked was enough. And the medal from Booth was a nice touch.

As for Brennan, her “I’m not the public” was very sweet. And I liked how she was right around the corner, waiting for Booth to be done talking to Jared. And he knew she was there too, which is fun. But, and I’m drawing a blank on a close second, I’m going to have to say that Brennan, at the end, thinking she was being ‘bad’ is probably one of my favorite Brennan moments of all time. And I love that Booth was the one to lead her into the ‘dark side’.

Line(s) of the night:

  • Booth: A Cougar is an older woman who prefers younger men.
  • Brennan: Wouldn’t that indicate that every woman is a cougar?
  • Booth: Thanks for the insight there, Bones.

Let me know what you think of this week’s episode. And don’t forget to let me know about next week’s LIVE BONES CHAT!

Another prime-time commercial featuring GMMR’s lovely take on “Glee”. Great episode! And I loved seeing the girl that played Jessi on Kyle XY not be so robotic.

Stinkin’ loved the end… rewatching it over and over again as we speak haha! She’s so cute, and he just loves that he’s the one “leading her into the dark side” as you said! Great moment!

This a good episode, but my favorite part was when Sweets walked out on Brennan. People should do that to her more often.

Oh and my least favorite part was Booth arresting a man he knew to be innocent because he didn’t like the guy’s attitude. We have a right to exercise our rights even if the police don’t like it. That is why they are called our rights and not called police options.

I found myself laughing out loud quite a bit during this episode. I am not sure how I feel about that.

I loved Sweets calling himself the magic 8ball. I liked that Brennan wanted to know how Sweets knew the chick did it and he just walked away. Tonight was a yeah!Sweets night for me. (again so what?)

I know Jared was back to move the story forward but I wasn’t really feeling him tonight. But the whole brain the size of a raisin thing totally worked.

I can’t wait until next week. Is next week the finale?

I really enjoyed this episode- and it’s one I didn’t think I was going to like from the episode description. I loved the montage of Brennan examining the Bones- it reminded me of the scene from the pilot episode. I also loved the ending scene- how adorable was that!!? Oh and if I’m home next Thursday- I’m definately interested in a live chat.

Patty- next week isn’t the finale- it’s the week after 🙂

Oooh, I’d probably forget about the live chat, but its something I’m interested in if I remember!

And man, I’m just loving the B&B. Bones being bad was just so cute and happy and fun, and just made me squeal with delight.

Happy Birthday!!! Thanks for the recap. I definitely liked the episode although I agree there wasn’t a whole lot of Hodgins and Angela and Cam to love. I kind of missed them. Hodgins with his whole distrusts Muslims might’ve been kind of irritating if it was anyone else but he’s such a conspiracy nut. He kind of distrusts everyone so I could roll with that.

I’m also glad that Booth and his brother worked that out and the medal. Sigh. He is just the cutest tihng and you knew it was the St Christopher medal that his grandfather had given him but he was just so insistent that it wasn’t. ANd then the “bad” Bones. how hysterical is that lady.

I absolutely cannot wait til next week

By the way, this was the second show this week where the male lead lured the female lead into being “bad” by leaving a restaurant w/o paying and in both cases the guy secretly paid.

Happy Birthday Seeleybaby! Hope it’s a good one for you.

This episode was just meh for me. I didn’t hate it, but I also didn’t love it. I did like parts of it – like seeing Brendan Fehr. I’ve been an “on again off again” watcher this season, and hadn’t seen any other ‘Jared episodes”. I’ll admit, I was a Roswell fan back in the day, and Brendan is from my hometown, so … I should have tuned in sooner! The two Booth brothers = pretty awesome.

The case was boring, to me, but I loved the montage of Brennan examining the bones. Felt very, very S1 to me too!

Happy Birthday! It’s my friend’s birthday today too. Great recap. Can’t wait for the next two episodes.

I am always late to the recaps. Would this be one of those live chats that will remind you via email that you are to attend? Because I’d be all over that.

I enjoyed this episode, too. The “I’m not the public” moment was so telling. I also loved the Sweets/Booth moment where Sweets told Booth that he feels tied to his “responsible nature, job, and interpersonal relationships.” I wonder which interpersonal relationship Sweets was talking about. :). I think now that Sweets has ‘figured out’ who Gordon thought was struggling against attraction, he is beginning to work it into his Booth profile.

Wow This sounds like a good Episode of Bones, I only got to see the end of it so hopefully I will catch it again another time…..
