It’s Friday! Woo to the Hoo!!  Looks like I took some of the warm weather from L.A. back with me to Boston.  It’s going to be in the 80’s this weekend! Mama’s going to work on her tan. Are you doing anything fun this weekend?  Drop me a line and let me know.

Here’s a few highlights from tonight’s lineup.

Prison Break | 8pm on Fox
“Vs.”
It’s Linc vs. Michael over Scylla as Christina (Kathleen Quinlan) sets her plan in motion and a sniper targets Linc. Meanwhile, Sara receives some news; T-Bag makes his presence known at the Indian embassy; and Pad Man’s paranoia intensifies. [GMMR:I continue to be disappointed that I’ve fallen so behind on PRISON BREAK. I really wish I were watching right now. I guess I need a weekend with horrible weather and nothing to do so I can catch up.  Who is watching?]

Dollhouse | 9pm on Fox
“Haunted”
After a friend of Adelle’s is slain, Adelle has Echo programmed with the dead woman’s memories and personality in order to find the killer. In other events, Ballard investigates Mellie’s past and Topher imprints Sierra for a secret engagement.

Head Case | 10pm on Starz
“Short on Love”
Elizabeth does battle with her ex from NYC and tries to get back into the dating pool, but the pickings are slim; enterprising Lola starts a refreshing business from the Los Angeles office.

Party Down | 10:30pm on Starz
Taylor Stilstkin Sweet 16 Party
A film producer throws a sweet-16 party for his daughter, but nobody shows up; Henry and an old friend have a reunion; and a pair of rappers offer Ron some business advice. [GMMR:You guys need to be watching this show.  It’s so damn funny. Even if you don’t have Starz you must find a way — on demand, Netflix…you need to be watching.]

ABC Gives Early Pick Ups For ’09-’10 TV Season

April 23, 2009 by

ABC won’t be announcing it’s full lineup of shows until next month’s Upfront presentation, but the alphabet network did give an early nod to a few shows today.  Nothing too shocking but a big sigh of relief if you are a fan of the following:

  • Dancing with the Stars
  • Desperate Housewives
  • America’s Funniest Home Videos
  • Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
  • Wifeswap
  • Brothers & Sisters
  • Private Practice
  • Grey’s Anatomy
  • The Bachelor
  • Supernanny
  • Ugly Betty
  • Lost

Again, no big surprises here.  But this list does however put to rest all rumors about a possible UGLY BETTY cancellation.  Logically many of us new the show wasn’t going anywhere, but ABC’s schedule shift had quite a few people worried.

I’m looking forward to the next schedule released.  What will make the cut?  I’m hoping BETTER OFF TED makes the list – it’s a great show!

Feeling a bit more like myself this morning.  After taking the red eye home, I was a bit of a wreck yesterday. It seems all I needed was a little IDOL to get me feeling back to normal. (Whatever normal is).

A big night of TV tonight…are you ready? I can’t hear you. I said ARE YOU READY?!

A few highlights from tonight’s TV lineup.

Survivor: Tocantins | 8pm on CBS
“It’s Funny When People Cry”

A contestant makes a devious move; a contestant is forced to beg for another chance after becoming an outcast

Bones| 8pm on Fox
“The Girl in the Mask”
Booth helps a detective friend from Japan after the man’s sister goes missing in Washington, D.C. During the ensuing investigation that leads to an escort service, Booth and Brennan discover the woman’s roommate has also disappeared. [GMMR: A round of applause for Seeleybaby who has been working overtime to review BONES – which seems to be on every day lately.]

Smallville | 8pm on The CW
“Stiletto”
Pretending she is the superhero Stiletto, Lois secures her star-reporter status by scoring exclusive interviews with the city’s newest crimefighter. Clark fears for her safety until she ably saves him from Kryptonite-wielding thugs.

Parks and Recreation | 8:30pm on NBC
“The Reporter”
Leslie invites a reporter to cover her park project, but the resulting article isn’t what she had in mind. Meanwhile, Tom sucks up to Ron. [GMMR: I have to catch up on last week’s episode.  Seems there are mixed reviews about this show. Hmm.]

The Office | 9:00pm on NBC
“Broke”
Michael’s new company has a hard time making early morning deliveries; the office struggles to get their expense reports in on time when Angela enforces Dunder Mifflin’s policy. [GMMR: Another great episode last week. Can’t wait for tonight! ]

Supernatural | 9pm on The CW
Jump the Shark”
Sam and Dean agree to meet with a 19-year-old man named Adam. Adam claims to be John Winchester’s son, but they suspect that he’s really a demon attempting to trap them.

Grey’s Anatomy | 9pm on ABC
“Sweet Surrender”
While undergoing aggressive cancer treatment, Izzie focuses on planning Meredith and Derek’s wedding; Callie’s father visits; Owen looks for help with his PTSD. [GMMR: Something seems to have turned around in the writer’s room of GREY’S ANATOMY. Both this week’s and next week’s episodes are really strong.  Great performance. Better than normal writing. I may have even cried…a little.]

30 Rock | 9:30pm on NBC
“The Ones”
Jack shops for an engagement ring; Liz finds out that Elisa is keeping a secret; Jenna falls for an attractive EMT.

Private Practice | 10pm on ABC
“What You Do for Love”
Noah and Addison try to save a pregnant heart patient; Sam rethinks his friendship with Naomi; Violet’s pregnancy complicates Pete’s relationship with Lisa (Idina Menzel). [GMMR: You’ve got Idina Menzel, Taye Diggs and Audra McDonald in an episode and you can’t find a way to let them sing? Can’t the whole crew go to karaoke night or something? Oh and congrats to Idina and Taye who are expecting their first baby!!]

Southland | 10pm on NBC
“See the Woman”
Ben reveals the details of his past to his therapist and his training officer; when Dewey (C. Thomas Howell) is star-struck by a famous, self-absorbed actor (Tom Sizemore), he decides to party with him instead of booking him. [GMMR: Missed last week’s episode while I was away. I don’t want to fall behind. I really liked the first episode.]

Harper’s Island | 10pm on CBS
“Ka-Blam”
A supposed suicide puts the wedding guests and the locals on edge; Trish must make a decision about Hunter. [GMMR: Missed this one too.  I’m not sure I care as much. I’ll think about getting caught up. Raise your hand if you are watching HARPER’S ISLAND.]

Also playing…

  • My Name is Earl | 8:00pm on NBC: While trying to make things right with a local minister, Earl realizes that he and Randy have wronged the man more than once, making forgiveness harder with each revelation of a past misdeed.
  • CSI | 9:00pm on CBS: Catherine re-examines one of the first cases she worked on when a convicted felon claims the verdict was based on flawed evidence.
  • Hells Kitchen | 9:00pm on Fox: Chef Ramsay prepares dishes for the contestants to taste and re-create; a proposal is planned during the dinner service.

Who Went Home on AMERICAN IDOL?

If you’re looking to find out who won the American Idol season finale tonight- Adam or Kris – please click here: Who Won AMERICAN IDOL Tonight? (May 20, 2009)

PREVIOUS POST

And then there were six five. The judges save for Matt last week means two people are going home tonight. Who will it be? Will the judges regret their save if one of their golden boys go home? We’ll see.

I’ll be live blogging IDOL tonight. I’m ready to go, are you?

9:01pm: “THIS is American Idol” — do you think Seacrest had a team that sat around and came up with that opening? I hope not.

9:03pm: Paula Abdul is choreographing tonight’s group number. Maybe it’s me but I thought Paula looked about 10 years younger in the dance studio.

The Idols sporting some seriously horrible 70’s outfits. I appreciate Kris Allen in skin tight clothing, don’t get me wrong, but it’s all a little ridiculous. Oh and they’re back to the quite obvious lip syncing. So sad for the show.

They’re giving Paula some flowers for that dance? Seriously? This show is a little crazy and it’s only 9:08pm.

24 Debrief: Day 7 | 2:00 am-3:00 am

April 22, 2009 by
Filed under #1 featured, 24, 24 Recaps, Posts by Philboy

Compared to last week, this week was a little boring. But, a lot went on, so we’ll get started.

Debrief

  • A woman posing as Hodges’ secretary goes to his cell and tells him that the group in control of all of the day’s events, which is made up of a bunch of Starkwood-type organizations (or so it seems) see hi as a liability. She gives him a pill that will trigger a massive heart attack and, in theory, stop the investigation into Starkwood. Taylor orders Hodges to be transported to the White House for questioning.
  • The FBI finds out that Larry has been shot. Tony has made it look as if the shooter also shot him. Tony tells his contact with the canister to find a large building and blow it up to draw the FBI off the perimeter.
  • Kim tells Renee she’s leaving because Jack doesn’t want her to watch him die. Then, Renee finds out that Larry is dead. After that, she goes to lead a team to the site of the crime . Jack is in the middle of debriefing (while he still can), but decides to go with her to find the man with the canister. (manister?)
  • When Jack and Renee get to the crime scene, Jack starts to question Tony’s story because the bullets don’t match. Tony’s guy with the canister tposes as an FBI agent to get the team to the location where he will promptly blow them all up. Jack can’t go because of the bioweapon symptoms.
  • As the team gets closer to the building, Jack starts to put the pieces together. He looks at the communication information and figures out that the building is a trap. The building blows up with minimal casualties.
  • Jack uses his badassery to put together that Tony has something to do with everything. When he confronts him, the bioweapon gets the best of him and he collapses, with Tony holding his medication, lording it over him.

Agent Philboy’s Assessment

This was one of those episodes where you are yelling at the TV, “C’mon, Jack. Put it together. You know better than this.” And he did. Of course he did. Because he’s Jack. The hope that I was holding that Tony being a bad guy was all an act doesn’t seem to be happening does it? I know that’s what a lot of you were hoping for too. But, alas, it looks as if our beloved Tony is a bad guy after all.

This episode had to do a couple of things and it did them very well. First, it had to introduce the scheme in which Starkwood should be placed. From Hodges tirade last week, we knew that things didn’t end with Starkwood, and details are still vague as to whats fully going on and, more importantly, how Tony plays into everything. What we do know is that Will Patton (Remember the Titans) is currently the big bad guy. I really like him, so, like Jon Voight, it should be a good time.

Back in Boston! My flight landed around 5:30am and I’m already back at the office. (I hope the bosses don’t mind me taking a few minutes to post tonight’s TV spotlight.)

L.A. was amazing! I had a fantastic time catching up with friends during the Paley Festival. But 8 days without TV and the internet left me feeling all kinds of anxious. Please be patient with me as I play catch up. I’ve got lots of pics from Paley to share as well as a few anecdotes. And for you GREEK fans I can’t wait to share updates from my time spent on the set with Rebecca Logan and CAPPIE!!

But one thing at a time. How about we start off with a few highlights from tonight’s TV lineup.

(Glad to be back. I missed you guys!)

Lie to Me | 8pm on Fox
“Better Half”

Lightman’s ex-wife (Jennifer Beals), an assistant U.S. attorney, hires the group to help with an arson case.

American Idol | 8pm on Fox
Two contestants are eliminated; former contestant David Archuleta performs; disco stars Harry Wayne Casey (KC and the Sunshine Band); Thelma Houston and Freda Payne perform a medley of their hits. [GMMR: Oh no. I forgot we are saying goodbye to two contestants tonight. I’m hoping it’s going to be Lil and Anoop, but I suppose I should prepare myself for Matt to go. Oh no!]

Scrubs | 8pm on ABC
My Cuz
As J.D. makes plans to move closer to Sam, he discovers that Kim (Elizabeth Banks) has a new man in her life; Turk tries to get a promotion. [GMMR: You must, must, must watch SCRUBS tonight! The one and only Krobi Ghosh will be guesting as Nurse Korbi. It’s not everyday one of my friends is on TV so tune in! Read more about Korbi’s appearance here. ]

Better Off Ted | 8:30pm on ABC
“Goodbye, Mr. Chips”
The gang tries desperately to get Ted his job back after he accidentally deletes himself from Veridian’s system. [GMMR: I missed last week’s episode so I have two to catch up on. It’s actually a treat. Looking forward to laughing my ass off.]

Lost | 9pm on ABC
“Lost: The Story of the Oceanic 6”
What happened to the Oceanic 6 and the rest of the island survivors in the three years after Ben moved the island; how Locke leaving the island may have helped stop the time rifts; what led to Locke’s death off the island. [GMMR: A recap episode? What? I want to know where Daniel Faraday has been!!!]

The Unusuals | 10pm on ABC
“Crime Slut

A pawn store is robbed while Beaumont is hocking her jewelry; Delahoy and Banks search for a man who was pronounced dead right before vanishing. [GMMR: Are you guys liking this show? Sound off in the comments below.]

Also Playing…

  • America’s Next Top Model | 8pm on The CW: The contestants arrive at the exotic overseas location; the women must dress and pose like famous cultural icons during their photo shoots.
  • Criminal Minds | 10pm on CBS: While reviewing a series of child abductions and murders, the team realizes that one of the cases may not actually be the work of the serial killer they arrested.

May I ask…what will YOU be watching?

Kris Allen: “She Works Hard for the Money”

Kris Allen doesn’t have to work very hard to capture my heart. I love this guy! If it weren’t for Adam Lambert’s sick talent Kris would totes top my IDOL list. Could he overtake The Gokey and be in the finals against Adam? Here’s to hoping!

I really liked how Kris changed up this overdone song. I didn’t even recognize it at first. I could watch him sing all day.

Adam Lambert: “If I Can’t Have You”

April 22, 2009 by
Filed under American Idol, American Idol Recap

Just got off the plane and the very first thing I did was go online to check out last night’s AMERICAN IDOL performances. Adam Lambert once again sets out to shock and awe. It was disco night. I thought for sure he’d ham it up. Nope. He takes us all by surprise with the beautifully arranged rendition of “If I Can’t Have You”.

Is there a way this guy can lose? I don’t know if an IDOL has ever deserved it more.

CHUCK vs. The Colonel

Who wants to hear a confession of how dumb I am? What? Everyone? Okay! I totally thought this was the season finale. I know, I know. I guess I got confused. But it turned out alright because I was completely watching with heightened emotion and suspense. You cannot IMAGINE my relief and excitement when I realized that we still have one more glorious episode to go!

I don’t even know where to start because this episode was just that good. I’m one of those people who, to the irritation of anyone who has ever lived with me, can enjoy something over and over and over (and over), whether that’s eating the same thing for dinner four or five nights in a row, watching one movie on a constant loop, playing one song on my iTunes on repeat, etc. And last night, I was so ready to do that with this episode. If only stupid sleeping and hygiene didn’t get in the way. But I did save it on my DVR, so YEAH!!!!

We really hit the ground running on this one. Chuck and Sarah in the hotel was a little amazing, and how much did everyone love Sarah’s hot ass in those panties? It just has to be said—if you’re going to put it out there, I’m going to pick it up and run with it because that’s how I roll, okay? I know I was totally excited to see some spooning and some cute hand holding, but I’m sure that the average collective heart rate in America took a jump during that makeout scene! Oh, HOT. But I’m still a little glad that we have the sex to look forward to. I mean, yes, we have had like two years building up to it, but I felt like this was a good audience tease. And that whole Morgan taking the condom thing … oh, that was a visual I just wasn’t sure I wanted to have. So I kind of tried in my mind to go to a place where Morgan was making water balloons out of condoms or seeing how many pieces of chicken he could stuff into it … but then you know Anna’s a freak, so the illusion was lost.

Okay, while we’re talking about Morgan … WHAT?!?! Morgan QUIT the Buy More? Seriously, are they writing him off? Are they getting rid of the Buy More? I NEED TO KNOW THESE THINGS! Interestingly, I could totally see Morgan as a Benihana chef, and I have had plenty of them who weren’t Asian so I say follow your dreams. I did think it was funny that he picked another chain place as his dream job, except in Hawaii. But I was like … actually feeling really emotional during his quitting scene, even amid all the chest hair and applause. And I realized that I’m not ready to let go of Morgan! He and Chuck are supposed to be together forever!

BONES: The Double Death in the Dearly Departed

April 21, 2009 by
Filed under #1 featured, Bones, Posts by Sarah (Seels)

Just when I think BONES can’t surprise me anymore, it pulls out a total shocker. Booth likes pretty lawyers? What? Oh, haha, yeah, we knew that. But Brennan knows the words to Amazing Grace?!!? Ey yo! I laughed a lot during this episode, but I know a lot of people don’t care for ‘funny’ BONES. If the show wants to dabble in what I consider the absurd (that is Booth and Brennan carrying dead persons around and/or singing gospel favorites), then I guess that’s their prerogative. Not my favorite episode of the season. Probably not even my favorite episode of the week, but…that’s not something to translate over, know what I mean?

And can we all at least agree that the needle in the eyeball was just ghastly?

The Case: A J-team is attending the wake of a Jeffersonian colleague, Dr. Hank Reilly. But when Brennan is paying her ‘respects’, she deduces that he did not die of natural causes. The gang has to get to the bottom of this murder/code word: translation, before the body is buried. There was a lot of alcohol, there was a lot of money, there were a lot of suspects, and the murderer would have gotten away with it, if it wasn’t for those meddling kids! (no dog, though….)

The Squints:

No squintern of the week! Let’s move on…

Angela: Her job this week was to conveniently have a Toyota (Matrix!) parked in such a way to be stolen by her team in order to steal a dead body. Go Angela! Go Team! Go Toyota!

Sweets: Haha. If he wants to be part of the team, he has to make sure and not tell potential suspects that murder is nothing to worry about. That’s okay, Sweets, it’s just a little something everyone has to learn.

CASTLE: Home Is Where the Heart Stops

April 21, 2009 by
Filed under #1 featured, Castle, Posts by Philiana

Disclaimer: I apologize if you wanted to read about last night’s murder; while it is a significant part of the show, “Castle” would be nothing without its quirky character dynamics. A discussion of this follows.

After watching the first seven episodes of “Castle,” I’ve come to realize – as many of you have – that the show is not about the weekly murder mysteries. Though the show is sold as a crime procedural a la the “CSIs” and “Law & Orders,” the one thing the show cannot live without is the different dynamics and relationships Castle plays during various points in his personal, public and professional lives. Tonight’s episode was another glimpse into Castle’s non-work environment and like any freshman series, was one of the best so far in depicting the growth of Castle and Beckett’s relationship. Earlier in the season when Stana Katic’s Beckett was still not on par with Nathan Fillion’s portrayal of Castle, I offered some concern over Katic’s abilities to go toe-to-toe with Fillion. Six weeks later, I must admit – Katic has steadily improved after each episode. She infuses a strong-willed, unfazed attitude into the character that has given viewers an opportunity to see multiple sides of what could have easily been the archetypal headstrong female detective on another throwaway crime show.

At various points in the episode while the duo worked to solve the obligatory murder case, the dynamic between Castle and Beckett retained its employee-employee relationship yet forwarded ten steps each time the two socialized. There was a moment when Beckett and Castle went shooting. Appropriately Beckett wore fire engine red (was this a subtle way of incorporating the femme fatale?) as she showed off her toughness, shooting the target right in the center of the head. Castle, pretending to be unable to shoot a gun if his life depended on it, aimed at the target’s crotch, commenting boyishly that that would hurt. (Oh yes, Castle, it most definitely would.) Of course, Castle is a man of mystery – as I have learned from watching past episodes. After allowing Beckett to wallow in her glory for being the best shooter in the room, Castle quickly put her back in her place, shooting the target right in the chest.
