“Hey Jude” Sing Along in Trafalgar Square for T-Mobile
May 4, 2009 by Kath Skerry
They did it again. After their brilliant “flash mob” dance at Liverpool station earlier this year, T-Mobile came through this weekend with another awe-inspiring commercial concept. This time around 13,000 people (including Pink) came together unwittingly for an impromptu sing along of The Beatles “Hey Jude” in Trafalgar square. As with their “dance” ad, the commercial will be edited down within 48 hours and aired in British television.
I can’t stop watching it. I think it’s just lovely!
And in case you missed it, here was the dance ad that took place in January.

At the risk of sounding like a complete pushover, I was moved to tears by the new video from Trafalgar Square. I am astounded by how easy it is to move through an entire day without connecting to another person. We don’t plan it that way. Quite the contrary, I believe that we are all looking for ways to find meaningful connections.
I spent seven years working in the wrong profession. The drudgery of my old life was most noticeable when I started walking with my head down. I rarely engaged strangers in conversation, and I couldn’t be bothered to smile. Fortunately, I had the chance to break that pattern when I frequently attended concerts alongside thousands of others looking for an escape.
Music truly does bring people together, and I applaud T-Mobile for celebrating the spirit of community that legendary artists like The Beatles engendered in their legions of fans. Take a second look at the ad, and appreciate the real smiles on those real faces. It’s something to behold.
Good times! I’m off to buy more Kleenex…
Ha … I can’t believe I missed it! I’m 15 minutes away from there! Ironically … I was at Liverpool station that day thinking about the first commercial.
Why do I ALWAYS ALWAYS cry at these things?! 😉
These T-Mobile videos are awesome….did you see the one where people were dancing to a song from the “Do Re Mi” song from Sound of Music at the Antwerp Station? It is, quite simply, banoodles!!
