Tonight’s TV Spotlight…Thursday, May 14, 2009

May 14, 2009 by

The night I’ve been dreading. Tonight are the season finales of my favorite Thursday night shows. Say it ain’t so.  Can’t they just leave one by one over the course of a few weeks? Do they have to all disappear on the same night? I’m not a band air ripper.

There’s nothing we can do, so let’s make the most out of it. Have fun. Enjoy!

I’m going to kick it old school tonight and hold a live chat during THE OFFICE. This is something we used to do every Thursday a few years back, and it was a lot of fun.  Let’s meet up and watch the season finale of THE OFFICE together tonight at 9pm.  You in?

Now on to tonight’s mega-TV lineup…

Bones| 8pm on Fox | Season Finale
“The End in the Beginning”
A murder at a nightclub where Mötley Crüe, who appear as themselves, are performing makes suspects out of the entire Jeffersonian team, who go to extremes to solve the case and clear their names. [GMMR: I don’t even watch BONES and I’m excited for what’s going to happen tonight to happen.]

Ugly Betty | 8pm on ABC
“In the Stars”
Betty, Marc and Matt team up to work on their final YETI project; Daniel proposes to Molly; Matt’s mother (Christine Baranski) asks Betty for a favor.

Survivor: Tocantins | 8pm on CBS
“They Martyr Approach”

One castaway is left reeling after a betrayal comes to light in the tribal council; another castaway’s bizarre approach to Exile Island polarizes the rest of the tribe; one contestant is eliminated.

Smallville | 8pm on The CW | Season Finale
“Doomsday”
Oliver takes the lead when Clark exhibits resistance to killing Doomsday, and Chloe finds herself caught in the middle of the situation. Meanwhile, a fight between Lois and Tess takes a surprising turn.[GMMR: GMMR’s Sarah talked to Cassidy Freeman who plays Tess Mercer the other day. Read our exclusive interview here: Cassidy Freeman Interview]

Parks and Recreation | 8:30pm on NBC | Season Finale
“Rock Show”
Leslie goes to a meeting with a local bigwig while her subcommittee members go to Andy’s first concert since breaking both his legs.

The Office | 9:00pm on NBC | Season Finale
“Company Picnic”
Michael reunites with Holly (Amy Ryan) at Dunder Mifflin’s annual company picnic while the rest of the staff competes in a volleyball tournament. [GMMR: Amy Ryan FTW!]

Supernatural | 9pm on The CW | Season Finale
“Lucifer Rising”
The fourth season concludes with Sam and Dean preparing to fight Lucifer in the apocalypse. Elsewhere, Sam and Ruby attempt to kill Lilith.

Grey’s Anatomy | 9pm on ABC | 2-hour Season Finale
“Here’s to Future Days” / “Now or Never”
Izzie ponders whether to have a risky procedure; a patient prompts Owen to reassess his place at Seattle Grace; George has stunning news for Bailey; the doctors of Seattle Grace band together to save the victim of a traffic accident. [GMMR: Two hours of GREY’S. They better be killing someone off.]

30 Rock | 9:30pm on NBC | Season Finale
“Kidney Now!”
Jack starts to build a relationship with his biological father; Liz gets attention as a relationship expert; Kenneth helps Tracy overcome embarrassing memories.

Southland | 10pm on NBC
“Westside”
Detectives Clarke and Adams investigate when jewelry thieves start robbing homes in Bel Air; Bryant takes Janilla (Carla Jeffrey) home to make sure she is safe.

Also playing…

  • My Name is Earl | 8:00pm on NBC | Season Finale: Joy asks Earl to speak at career day at Dodge’s school; Earl, Randy and Catalina search for Dodge’s real dad.
  • CSI | 9:00pm on CBS: The team investigates a string of murders linked to a scam involving valuable poker chips; Langston has to use deadly force for the first time.
  • CSI: NY | 10pm on CBS: When kidnappers take Robert Dunbrook’s (Craig T. Nelson) son, a member of the team is murdered; another team member’s life is threatened.

An Office live chat? Yay! I used to take part in them every week. I miss them. See you in the chat room.

I’m going to have to delay watching Bones, The Office, Parks and Rec and 30 Rock till tomorrow, because tonight for me is all about watching and then recapping/reviewing Supernatural. I am actually nervous for the finale…I am starting to suspect what I think is going to be a big twist in the ep, but I still have no idea how things are going to shake out in the end. Can’t wait! Especially since this episode is all Eric Kripke…should be amazing.

How am I going to avoid season finale spoilers all day tomorrow??? Let me just say that I am psyched to watch Andy’s concert on Parks and Rec!! And the baom chicka baom baom on Bones, yippee! (Forgive the spelling – I’ve never written that out before and I’m stumped).

Grey’s Anatomy was highly disappointing. Anyone who watched ER in the first or second season (which is, oh, you know, EVERYONE with a pulse) knows that the George “reveal” wasn’t anything compared to the one on ER. What a rip-off. If you’re going to copy an idea from ER, make it from a season that nobody watched. My husband still talks about that episode of ER when they are paging the intern to help with the trauma patient (and the pager goes off on the trauma table). Oooh, goosebumps. Meredith’s reaction was good, but, whatever. Doctor Carter did it first and more believable. Watch it.

So, who will live and who will die? Is only one going to survive? Let’s see. Will they save the character who was in the show 2% of the time and is being written out anyway? Or will they save the character that they’ve devoted the entire season to? What a cliffhanger!

The superstar of that finale was Alex Karev. Justin Chambers hit it out of the park. I hope he gets an Emmy nomination!

Of course, the other superstar was Izzy. She’s always great, though. Poor girl has had some poorly written storylines, but this one has made up for them!
