Adam Lambert Rocks Out to ‘Whole Lotta Love’

Hands down the performance of the night was Adam Lambert’s “Whole Lotta Love”. He was authentic and commanding. There will be haters. You are wrong. (Just kidding, enjoy who you like). He just happened to be my favorite of the night.

Danny Gokey’s “Dream On” Screech

I don’t want to ever hear another Danny Gokey fan complain about Adam Lambert’s screech after The Gokey embarrassed himself big time with this “horror” show.

Thanks Chelsea.

AMERICAN IDOL Top 4 Performances

It’s Rock Week on AMERICAN IDOL and the drama is turned up to an all time high. I for one couldn’t be more excited about having Slash as a mentor tonight. Who knows what that crazy cat will do. But it’s really more about what the four contestants left will do.

If she picks the right song it could be another great week for Allison Iraheta.  I’m expecting to hear the Adam screech, but I have high hopes for him tonight.  Not sure what The Gokey is going to do, but this might be a tough week for him.  Kris is the wild card here.  Will he stick to his laid back vibe or really rock it out?  If he chooses the rock route I might just faint.  (Just a warning in case this recap suddenly ends.)

Ryan lets us know that’s it’s been a bit of disaster on the set of IDOL. No, Gokey and Adam didn’t brawl, but there were issues with the set breaking.  Because of this, the IDOLS didn’t get a chance to do a proper dress rehearsal. Interesting.

Seacrest let’s us know that the IDOLS will be performing duets tonight for the first time!  How did I not know this?  I’ve been dreaming of duets for a long time and never knew why they hadn’t done them to date (outside of the finale of course).  I’m officially excited (ok I was way before this, but guys, duets!!)

As we do here every week I watch, share my thoughts, then listen to what the judges have to say.  The last part is all YOU! Leave us YOUR feedback on each of the contestants.

Let’s do this…

We get a little glimpse into the Idols meeting Slash for the first time.  Allison (who is looking all kinds of Kelly Clarkson tonight) looks truly frightened.  But I know she’s ready to rock it out. But she’ll have to wait her turn.

Adam Lambert
First up tonight is Adam Lambert with “Whole Lotta Love” by Led Zepplin. The look and the performance (not to mention the guyliner) might have been a bit over the top but with vocals like that there is no denying Adam owned that stage tonight. Killer, flawless vocals. That ending commanded your attention.  A rock star not in the making – already made. The perfect song choice. I’m not sure I found anything wrong tonight.  And I know some people just don’t get Adam. They certainly won’t get him tonight. But I thought he rocked the shnikey out of that song. And I have to say, he’s such a performer that when’s he doing his thing on the stage he sells the rock star bit so much, but I also loved that the second the music stopped he went back to humble, eager Adam. His whole demeanor changed.

Randy loved it and suggested he go the rock route on his album.  Kara said he was more than a rock star, he was a rock god. Paula thought it was perfect.  Simon said it was his favorite performance of Adam’s of all time.  He said the only problem he found was that Adam was first and no one can possible top him tonight.

Who has to go next? My apologies.

Allison Iraheta
Aw Allison. You’re next.  Please please rock this.  Allison Iraheta is taking on Janis Joplin’s “Cry Cry Baby”. Love this song selection! I don’t know what’s going on with me right now but I have to tell you I got a little teary during that performance.  I was just so proud of Allison. She’s only 17 (technically young enough to be my daughter), and she took on such a legendary song.  I thought her vocals were strong, but I really loved her runs that she added in to section in her lower register. She made it a bit more bluesy.  If the judges pan her I’m going to go to their houses and pan each one of them (whatever that means).

Randy didn’t love the song choice.  He didn’t love the performance. (Coming to pan him).  Kara wasn’t in love with the performance but did give her props on her on-stage personality.  Paula wasn’t overly enthusiastic but she did say that if there was a Janis Joplin biopic that Allison has the role (her and every other rock chic…oh and Jenna Maloney). Simon thought her vocals were strong but he did say he didn’t see much originality.

Jonathan Slavin & Malcolm Barrett on the Future of BETTER OFF TED

May 5, 2009 by
Filed under #1 featured, Better Off Ted, TV News

by theTVaddict.com

Since theTVaddict.com has been down for nearly twenty-four hours courtesy of our hosting company mediatemple (who apparently, is run just about as smoothly as Veridian Dynamic), this TV Addict would like to thank GMMR for allowing us to share our interview with BETTER OFF TED‘s Phil and Lem in an effort to encourage fans of quality television everywhere to tune into tonight’s season finale of BETTER OFF TED. Because if you don’t, you’ll only have yourself to thank next season when ABC unveils a dreaded 10th season of ACCORDING TO JIM. We’re just sayin’

————

With tonight marking the season finale of BETTER OFF TED, fans of the show — the few, the proud, the smarter than the average bear should take solace in the fact that Veridian Dynamics isn’t going to go down without a fight. As evidence by the fact that they sent two of their top scientists, Phil and Lem (actors Jonathan Slavin and Malcolm Barrett) to preview tonight’s season finale and reveal, among other things, why you should give their criminally under-watched gem thirty minutes of your time.

The TV Addict: I’ve really been enjoying BETTER OFF TED, but as is so often the case with these type of shows (read: smart and funny comedies) I seem to be one of about four people

Jonathan Slavin: No, there are definitely four others that are watching the show

Really? Because American and I don’t seem to ever see eye-to-eye when it comes to “funny.” Maybe it’s just me, but shows I like (see: ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, ANDY RICHTER CONTROLS THE UNIVERSE) never seem to ever break out.

Jonathan Slavin: Thank you. I loved ANDY too.

Malcolm Barrett: What show?

Jonathan Slavin: It was before your time, you wouldn’t of heard about it!

Is it hard to work on such a funny show like ANDY RICHTER only to watch it get quietly cancelled?

Jonathan Slavin: With ANDY RICHTER, it was a heartbreak but it wasn’t much of a surprise because I always felt that audiences weren’t ready for it. I think that the show was very much ahead of its time, before America really knew how to take in a single-camera comedy and knew how to go with the absurd. Whereas with our show [BETTER OFF TED], I feel that people are starting to trickle in and more people ‘get it’ then don’t. So I have hope for this one!

So you’re optimistic that you might see a second season?

Jonathan Slavin: I’m not an optimist at all.

Malcolm Barrett: You are so not an optimist.

Jonathan Slavin: My glass is not only half empty, but its got poison in it and somebody is going to drink it. But I really do feel that we have made progress as a culture and I think that people are more likely to get this. Especially right now with what’s going on in our economy, with our workforce, where in this absurdist workplace comedy there are no pretensions made about the fact that this company doesn’t care about us at all.

Malcolm Barrett: And having the network behind you long enough.

Jonathan Slavin: There goes Malcolm, throwing down ABC right now!

Not much happened this week until the end of the episode, but there are a lot of possibilities for where things could go.

Debrief

  • The CTU servers dug out of storage hadn’t served up any information. Jack, using the information he had received from Jonas, told Chloe to search for all Muslims in the database. Janis whines about it. Jack yells at her. She shuts up. Chloe finds out about Jack’s exposure to the bioweapon and impending death. He tells her to buck up.
  • Tony has Jabran read a statement or else they will kill his brother. While he is reading it, the cops show up. Jabran’s neighbor reported a disturbance and some unknown visitors to the apartment. Jabran, under threat of death, waves them off.
  • Chloe finds a lead on Jabran, his mosque leader. When they talk to him, he recognizes Jack and assures them that Jabran is not a terrorist. Shockingly enough, Jack doesn’t believe him. When the cop who visited Jabran tells the FBI where he lives, Jack handcuffs the mosque leader and brings him along.

HOUSE: Under My Skin

The game of expectations has a long history of leaving its contestants defeated and deflated. Who among us has escaped the trap that opens when we put our emotional eggs in a tenuous basket? Examples of this phenomenon are as plentiful as the broken dreams that suffer the consequences. A father brings his son to the ballpark, hoping that this generation’s team will rectify the offenses committed by his childhood heroes. A young couple meets in person, testing the chemistry that was hatched during months of marathon phone calls. A lifelong salesman meets with his boss in private, confident that his experience will be rewarded with an exciting new opportunity to compete in these difficult times. Most people are hard pressed to recall when they emerge victorious from these contests, but the losers always remember. The sting of disappointment is often immune to any ointment, fading only when enough time has passed.

Tonight’s House produced both winners and losers in this game. If you were anticipating a torrid start to the Huddy love affair, you may have been let down by the episode’s climax, which served as more of a teaser for the season finale than as a satisfying release for fans who have waited patiently for the two doctors to become one. If, on the other hand, you were searching for answers to the questions posed by Amber’s reappearance, and the impact of House’s hallucinations on the people around him, this was an hour of television that surpassed your most elaborate hopes.

100 QUESTIONS from NBC – First Look

May 4, 2009 by
Filed under #1 featured, Fall Preview, Fall TV

My first impression based on the description? – “Slumdog Millionaire” meets “My Name is Earl”, you know…but different. Again, another comedy with a lot of buzz. This one didn’t quite grab me. I was very distracted by the forced laugh track. Who knows, could be the next (insert name of great NBC comedy here) James Burrows has done great things for NBC. Can he do it again?

Emmy winner James Burrows (”Will & Grace,” “Friends”) directs “100 Questions,” a new comedy series written and executive-produced by Christopher Moynihan (”For Your Consideration”) that provides hilarious answers to 100 questions about love. Charlotte Payne (Sophie Winkleman, “Peep Show”) is looking for love and has rejected multiple marriage proposals — but she has yet to meet Mr. Right. When she joins a popular online dating site, she gets a little help from her dating counselor Ravi (Amir Talai, “The Ex List”) – who requires her to take a 100-question compatibility test. The questions aren’t easy for Charlotte to answer, and each one requires her to recount a poignant and humorous time in her life with friends Leslie (Elizabeth Ho, “Women’s Murder Club”), Jill (Joy Suprano, NBC’s “Law & Order”), Mike (Christopher Moynihan “For Your Consideration”) and Wayne (David Walton “Quarterlife”). The test becomes a journey of self-discovery for Charlotte who begins to realize what she truly wants in a relationship. Ron West (”Psych”), Kelly Kulchak (”Psych”) and Michelle Nader (”King of Queens”) join Moynihan as executive producers. The series is produced by Universal Media Studios and Tagline.

COMMUNITY from NBC – First Look

You had me at Joel McHale. THE SOUPster finally lands himself a network gig in COMMUNITY, a new comedy from NBC. There’s some really good buzz about this one….which we know of course means nothing. Ha! Is this something that grabs your interest?

From Emmy Award-winning directors Joe and Anthony Russo (”Arrested Development”) comes “Community,” a smart comedy series about higher education — and lower expectations. The student body at Greendale Community College is made up of high-school losers, newly divorced housewives, and old people who want to keep their minds active. Within these not-so-hallowed halls, “Community” focuses on a band of misfits, at the center of which is a fast-talkin’ lawyer whose degree has been revoked (Joel McHale, “The Soup”), who form a study group and end up learning a lot more about themselves than they do about their course work. In addition to McHale, the series also stars: Gillian Jacobs (”The Book of Daniel”); Yvette Nicole Brown (”Rules of Engagement”); Danny Pudi (”Greek”); Alison Brie (”Mad Men”); and comedy legend Chevy Chase (”Saturday Night Live”). “Community” is a Krasnoff Foster Entertainment, Harmonious Claptrap and Russo Brothers production in association with Sony Pictures Television and Universal Media Studios. Russ Krasnoff (”The Soloist”), Dan Harmon (”The Sarah Silverman Program”), Joe Russo (”Arrested Development”), Anthony Russo (”Arrested Development”) and Gary Foster (”The Soloist”) serve as executive producers. Joe and Anthony Russo directed the pilot that was written by Dan Harmon.

New comedy! A smart comedy about higher education…and lower expectations.

Joel McHale explains why his new NBC comedy Community is not by the book.

PARENTHOOD from NBC – First Look

Get to know NBC’s PARENTHOOD which will premiere in the Fall. Take a look and let us know if this is something you might be checking out come the Fall.

From the executive producers of the box-office hit “Parenthood” — Ron Howard and Brian Grazer (Oscar winners for “A Beautiful Mind”), and writer/executive producer Jason Katims (”Friday Night Lights”) — this contemporary re-imagining of the blockbuster film depicts the colorful and imperfect Braverman family — four grown siblings sharing the headaches, heartaches and joy of being parents. The star-studded cast includes Peter Krause, Maura Tierney, Craig T. Nelson, Dax Shepard, Bonnie Bedelia, Monica Potter, Erika Christensen and Sarah Ramos. When Sarah Braverman (Tierney, “ER”), a financially strapped single mother, returns home to her parents and siblings in Berkeley, Calif. after packing up her Fresno apartment and uprooting her two inconvenienced kids, Amber (Mae Whitman, “In Treatment”) and Drew (Miles Heizer, “ER”), she is greeted by her opinionated father, Zeek (Nelson, “Family Stone,” “Coach”), and strong mother, Camille (Bedelia, “Heart Like a Wheel”), who are privately dealing with their own marital issues. As Sarah is reunited with her siblings — sister, Julia (Christensen, “Traffic”), and brothers Crosby (Shepard, “Baby Mama”) and Adam (Krause, “Six Feet Under”) — all struggling with issues of their own, it’s clear that the Braverman reunion is just what they need to face the everyday challenges of modern family life. “Parenthood” is a production from Imagine Entertainment and Universal Media Studios. Emmy winner Thomas Schlamme (”The West Wing”) directs the pilot.
