There’s no rest for the wary. AMERICAN IDOL may be over but Fox isn’t about to let me have any down time. Tonight is the season premiere of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE – my favorite reality show. Yes, I love my IDOL, but I’d take SYTYCD over the singing competition any day. Yes, it’s that good. And if you’ve never watched SYTYCD, give it a shot this season – I think you’ll find yourself drawn in my the talent and passion of these dancers.
(Sorry, but with all the IDOL buzz I haven’t spent much time pushing SYTYCD on newbies. I’m making up for lost time.)
So You Think You Can Dance | 8pm on Fox | 2-hour Season Premiere
The search for America’s favorite dancer begins again tonight with the kick off of Season 5 of SYTYCD. Dancers audition in Denver, Los Angeles, Memphis, Tenn., Miami, New York and Seattle. [GMMR: SYTYCD is already auditioning for S6 which will air in the Fall. They will be in Boston a week from today, and believe me, I’m all over it. Hopefully Fox will help us out.]
Ugly Betty | 8pm on ABC | 2-hour Season Finale
“Curve Ball” & “The Fall Issue”
Henry comes back to New York just as Matt and Betty get ready to move in together; Daniel is invited to appear on “The View”; Marc and Betty compete for the same job; Wilhelmina threatens to reveal Claire’s secret. [GMMR: Tonight marks the last episode of UGLY BETTY on Thursday nights. Next season the show returns in the dreaded Friday night time slot. Will you be watching?]
Southland | 10pm on NBC | Season Finale
Officers find a dead gang member in the trunk of a car; Detective Bryant asks Lydia to take Janilla in; the rift between Detective Salinger and his daughter grows. [GMMR: Friday nights are definitely looking up. SOUTHLAND will be airing that day too next season. Maybe Friday will be the new…]
…and that’s about it. There’s not much on tonight in terms of new, original programming. I’m going to fully enjoy the lull. The summer shows will be starting up soon. I’m working on putting together a list of premiere dates, so check back soon.
Will you be watching SYTYCD with me? Pretty please?! Excited for UGLY BETTY or SOUTHLAND? Is there something else in tonight’s TV that I should have highlighted?

Who Won AMERICAN IDOL?

It’s here. Tonight’s the night. The IDOLS are dressed all in white (seriously, can’t they do anything original), and they are here to sing.
Adam and Kris are ready and I hope you are too. I’ll be doing my best to live blog some of the highlights of tonight’s 2+ hour event (if you’re watching on DVR I hope you’ve set your DVR to run late, because the show most certainly will be).
8:02pm: Ryan tells us that just under 100 million votes came in last night. Think about it. That’s incredible.
8:03pm: Seacrest introduces the judges with a clip package for each. Per usual the judges get way too much attention. Enough about them.
8:07pm: Adam and Kris take the stage and get the love and support from their hometown crowds. Their mics aren’t working. Oh goodness, it’s going to be a long night.

First they brought back 90210, and now it’s MELROSE PLACE. The all new MELROSE PACE will be debuting on The CW in the Fall. Here’s a look at the new cast which includes
- Stephanie Jacobsen as Lauren
- Colin Egglesfield as Auggie
- Ashlee Simpson as Violet
- Shaun Sipos as David
- Katie Cassidy as Ella
- Michael Rady as Jonah
- Jessica Lucas as Riley
Laura Leighton who played the mischievous Sydney in the original show will be back. As hard as they try I don’t think they’re going to land Marcia Cross anytime soon.
Are you excited for the new MP? Will you give it a shot the second time around?
THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF NJ Recap
May 20, 2009 by Amy

Missed last night’s episode of THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF NJ? Don’t fret, Amy is here with a quick recap!
I desperately want to call it and say Danielle is going to take the crazy title this season, but that table-flipping scene with Teresa shown in the season preview is holding me back. For now.
This week in Franklin Lakes, Jacqueline throws a birthday party for her son CJ with all the housewives in attendance. Danielle takes this opportunity to reconcile with Dina but instead being sincere, she comes across as fake and a tad obsessive. She goes as far to ask Dina if she can “borrow the boobs” since they are “friends now.” Danielle’s true motive in reaching out to Dina is to strengthen her alliance with Jacqueline (Dina’s sister-in-law) since it doesn’t appear she has too many other friends. Unless you count Steve, the date she tries to get with in a restaurant bathroom.
Teresa’s eldest daughter Gia gets a call to audition in a movie with The Rock. In preparation, she meets with an acting coach. Gia seemed to put in an honest effort when rehearsing and may even have a hint of talent. She wasn’t phased at all the camera crew was filming her during practice. We also get to see the progress on Teresa’s dream home set to be finished in 3 weeks. Judging from the construction, it looks to be more like 3 months.
Jacqueline makes a visit to her fertility doctor. She has suffered four miscarriages in a row. She gets teary eyed and choked up at several points when discussing her inability to conceive. [SPOILER ALERT!: I did read that she is pregnant now and due this summer]
Dina hires an assistant to help her with her charity and personal work. She created the Ladybug Foundation, which raises money for terminally ill children. The episode ends with her coordinating a fund raising event at the Brownstone (the family event hosting facility). She goes into psycho event planner mode and in her rage of bossiness, she sets a few of the ladies off, including Jacqueline and Teresa the two woman who don’t hold down jobs and can’t take direction.
So no table flipping this week but at least we’re one episode closer!
Are you loving the housewives yet? Any early favorites in the crazy department?
CBS Announces its 2009-2010 TV Schedule
May 20, 2009 by Kath Skerry

CBS has just released it’s 2009-2010 Fall schedule and there were a few changes worth noting. The biggest one for me was the decision to move THE BIG BANG THEORY from the 8pm timeslot until 9:30 – after TWO AND A HALF MEN. The ratings boom of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER had to play a part in that decision.
The schedule change I’m personally most excited about was moving THE MENTALIST to 10pm on Thursdays. I’m not going to be watching Leno so this means I can finally fit Simon Baker into my TV schedule.
And really…NCIS: Los Angeles? CBS, you should be ashamed. Honestly, you can’t come up with something more original. And while you’re at it, why don’t you just make the formal announcement that CBS stands for Crimes Burglaries Shootings.
MONDAY
8:00 – How I Met Your Mother
8:30 – Accidentally On Purpose
9:00 – Two and a Half Men
9:30 – The Big Bang Theory
10:00 – CSI Miami
TUESDAY
8:00 – NCIS
9:00 0 NCIS: Los Angeles
10:00 – The Good Wife
Chace Crawford’s Gettin’ Footloose – Who Should Join Him?
May 20, 2009 by Kath Skerry
Filed under #1 featured, Gossip Girl
GOSSIP GIRL star Chace Crawford will star in the remake of the classic 80’s movie “Footloose”. He will play Ren McCormack, the rebellious teenager with a big heart that just wanted to dance. Ren was famously played by Kevin Bacon in the original movie. Chace got the part when Zac Efron, who was originally signed on as the lead, stepped down.
No word yet on who Chace’s leading lady will be but rumors are swirling that Miley Cyrus, Amanda Bynes, Hayden Panettierre and Julianne Hough are all in the running. Personally, my vote would go to the lovely Julianne. It’s a dancing movie, it should go to a dancer.
As or Chace – can he even dance? He must have had to dance a little during the audition process, right? I just can’t see Nate Archibald letting loose, none the less Footloose.
I guess the more important question is, what will the new Footloose look like? Will it be a remake of the original or a re-inspired version? Certainly the 80’s dance numbers in the original film will be updated, but at the same time it’s those very dances that are so special to so many fans (right Heather?). I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
YOU Cast Footloose…
We’ve got Chace Crawford, but there are other important roles still to be cast. Tell us who YOU think should be cast in the new Footloose.
- Ren McCormack (Kevin Bacon)…Chace Crawford
- Ariel Moore (Lori Singer)… ???
- Reverend Shaw Moore (John Lithgow)… ???
- Vi Moore (Diane Wiest)… ???
- Willard Hewitt (Chris Penn)…???
- Rusty (Sarah Jessica Parker)…???
- Chuck (Jim Youngs)…???
- Ethel McCormack (Frances Lee McCain)…???

Poll: Who Will Win AMERICAN IDOL?
May 20, 2009 by Kath Skerry
Kris Allen. Adam Lambert. Before the night is over one of these guys will be named the next AMERICAN IDOL. But which one WILL it be? Which one SHOULD it be? Perhaps two very different questions. Vote in the polls below and then (respectively) defend your position in the comments.
Who WILL Win American Idol?
Time to put all bias aside. This first poll isn’t about YOUR favorite IDOL contestant, it’s all about how you think America voted last night. If you were a betting man (or woman), would you put the big money or Kris or Adam to take it all tonight.
Who SHOULD Win American Idol?
As objectively as you can, tell us who you think deserves to win IDOL tonight.
REMINDER! IDOL Will Run Long Tonight!
If you are planning on watching AMERICAN IDOL on your DVRs tonight, remember that the season finale is already slated to run long. Be sure to set your DVRs accordingly or you’re going to risk not seeing the big moment when the new IDOL is named.
I’ll be posting some of my favorite TEAM KRIS and TEAM ADAM comments in this post throughout the day so keep checking back.

Kris Allen: What’s Going On?
May 20, 2009 by Kath Skerry
Filed under American Idol, American Idol Recap
Despite what a few of the judges had to say, I actually really loved Kris Allen’s version of Marvin Gaye’s “What Going On?”. I thought it was a bit ridiculous that the judges would criticize the song choice since Kris didn’t choose the song himself. Simon thought it was too laid back. Personally, a song with that much depth and meaning would have been ruined had it turned into a big rock number. Besides, that’s not who Kris is as an artist. I thought the song was in his wheelhouse.

In case you missed it, here is Adam Lambert‘s performance of “A Change is Gonna Come” from the AMERICAN IDOL Season Finale performance show. I thought this was an incredibly powerful performance. It was my favorite performance of Adam’s of the night.
