Live Blogging AMERICAN IDOL Season Finale
May 19, 2009 by Kath Skerry
Filed under #1 featured, American Idol, American Idol Recap
I wasn’t going to live blog tonight’s AMERICAN IDOL season finale, but screw it, there are people on the West Coast that need me. Ha!
We are coming in a few minutes late but we’ll catch up by the next commercial break. I can tell you that the opening was a lot of hyperbolic nonsense. “The guy next door” versus “The guy liner”. How very original, IDOL writers.
Um, guys, someone put Paula in an oven and left her in way too long. Seriously she is embarrassingly tan.
Seacrest warns us that tomorrow’s season finale is going to go long so we should set the DVRs accordingly. Thanks for the heads up. I was NOT amused last year when the DVR cut it off right before Seacrest announced the winner.
Tonight Adam and Kris will be performing three songs each. Their favorite from the season; a pick from Executive Producer Simon Fuller, and the 2009 IDOL anthem co-written by Kara DioGuardi.
Before we get into the performances, I just want to say that I will personally be happy with whoever takes home the big win tomorrow night. Honestly, both guys deserve to be there and both deserve to win. I love me some Adam Lambert and ditto on my boy Kris Allen. I wish them both nothing but the best tonight. Good luck guys! So excited for you!!
For Adam: 1-866-IDOLS-01 | 1-866-IDOLS-03 | 1-866-IDOLS-05
For Kris: 1-866-IDOLS-02 | 1-866-IDOLS-04 | 1-866-IDOLS-06
First up tonight is Adam Lambert with his personal pick from the season. He smartly went with “Mad World”. This is the song that changed a lot of people’s minds about Adam. Living up to his persona of the dark one, Adam took to the stage in a long coat and accompanied by the blue light. As for the song, it was fantastic, but if I’m being honest he sang it a bit better the first time around. But that’s ok, because it was still incredible. I’m a bit biased because I listen to Adam’s version of “Mad World” almost every day.
The judges all loved it. Simon thought it was a bit theaterical but he liked it all the same.
Kris Allen takes the stage with his favorite song of the season, “Ain’t No Sunshine”. Good choice. Other than the strategic “Heartless”, this was Kris’s other best song choice of the season. Another song that gets solid playtime on my iPod, Kris performed it so well. His voice sounded smooth, and it was smart to remind everyone of his musicality by playing the piano. Nice job, buddy.
The judges again were quite enthusiastic. Simon went as far to say that last week he wasn’t sure America made the right choice, but after that performance, he thinks they did. Wow.
As we go into commercial break, Seacrest asks Simon who took Round 1 and (brace yourselves) he said Kris Allen.
Warm Up Those Vocal Chords, it’s Time for GLEE

You’d be hard pressed to find anyone that hasn’t heard of Fox’s special preview of GLEE. The network is using tonight’s special preview event as a marketing/PR campaign for one of the most promising shows of the Fall. Get the buzz out early, give the folks a little taste and keep them wanting more. Basically Fox is like that drug deal hanging out on the corner, but instead of heroin they’re serving us an hour long comedy with song and dance numbers. I usually ‘just say no’, but one this one I’m already addicted.
I’ve watched the pilot 6 or 7 times by now. I’ve lauded the show to all my friends. Hell, I even listened to the music on my iPod on my way to work this morning. I’m ready to watch again tonight just so I can talk to you all about it. Yes, I’m excited.
But in the interest of full disclosure I must inform you that I am a life long gleeker. It’s true. From elementary school thru college, I was a hard core gleeker…and proud of it. I felt I needed to share this because GLEE is tailor made for me. I am the target audience. My dad, some of my guy friends…maybe not so much (well ok, some of my guy friends will absolutely love it). What I’m trying to say is that GLEE isn’t for everyone. The humor and charm are vastly appealing but I’m not expecting that everyone reading this will fall head over heels just because I did.
24 Season Finale: Day 7 | 6:00am – 8:00am

You think Jack Bauer can do it all? How about our very own Agent Philboy who kept up with the whole season of 24 while finishing his Senior of college?! Take that, Mr. Bauer. All kidding aside, I would like to thank Philboy for taking on reviewing 24 this season for GMMR. It’s not an easy show to cover and he did it while being informative and fun. And thanks to all of you who pulled the all nighter the Jack and GMMR this season. We hope to see you back when the clock starts ticking again.
As for Philboy, I’m happy to announce that he will be on vampire duty this summer. He’ll be back with weekly reviews of HBO’s TRUE BLOOD.
Thanks,
Kath

My feelings about “24” are mixed. The season, as a whole, was a classic return to form. For a show that has had some excellent finales in its time, tonight’s episode left me a little disappointed.
Debrief
Instead of trying to debrief you all on two hours of action, I’m going to try my best to tie up all of the storylines.
Jack, Kim, Tony and Renee
Jack was forced to break Tony out of FBI custody to save Kim. Tony then takes Jack hostage, saying he plans on using Jack to rebuild the pathogen and launch the bioweapon. After finding this information, Renee finds Kim and tells her someone is after her. After seeing that the cops are coming, the couple engage the cops in a shootout, with the woman dying and the man getting away.
While Jack is losing some weight via his spinal fluid, Tony stars complaining that he wants a promotion within The Group. Cara calls her boss, Alan Wilson, who says that he will meet with Tony. Jack escapes, but is recaught by Tony. Tony tells Jack that he never planned on harvesting his organs, but was using Jack to lure and kill Wilson. It turns out that Wilson is responsible for Palmer and Michelle’s death’s, as well as everything that occurred during the day.
Jack follows the guy and eventually calls Renee. He ends up crashing a car in the airport’s parking garage. Kim takes the laptop…and gets set on fire in the process. The information on the laptop led the FBI to the warehouse wherein…
…there’s a giant shootout and everyone escapes, but the bomb is defused. In the warehouse, Tony kills Cara and starts monologuing before he supposedly kills Wilson. Jack and Renee put an end to this and arrest both of them.
Renee wants information from Wilson, who doesn’t budge. Before he heads to the hospital to die, Renee asks Jack for advice. Jack tells her that he has no regrets; that he knows that what he did, by some sort of marker, is wrong, but he was OK with what he had done; and that Renee needed to be able to see in her heart what the right thing to do was.
Jack is ready to die. While in a coma, Kim shows up to do the stem cell transplant.
CHUCK “May” Extended Into Next Summer

Today on the NBC press conference call, Ben Silverman said that there “may” be an opportunity for CHUCK to run longer than its order 13 episodes next season. He mentioned that he could see it being a good fit with FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS if the show were to run into the summer.
Now before we go all crazy, let’s remember that CHUCK living past 13 episodes this season is just a slim possibility. But if it’s going to happen it’s going to because of the fans. I know I sound like a broken record, but it’s true, we need to keep up the CHUCK efforts and get more people than every watching and maybe we’ll be rewarded with more episode. Again, a big MAYBE.
But I will say this, Ben Silverman could not be more emphatic in saying that it was the efforts of the fans and the support from Subway that brought CHUCK back. When it was on the bubble NBC listened and watched to see how the fans would react. You stepped up and the show was renewed. It’s that simple.
Job well done, but the job’s not over.
If you have any ideas on what we can collectively due to keep the CHUCK momentum up, leave a comment on the site and/or email me at info(at)givememyremote(dot)com.
P.S. It’s worth letting you know that Ben Silverman credited Alan Sepinwall for Saving Chuck. With all due respect to Alan and all that he did, I think the applause should go to Wendy whose Subway idea really put things into motion. She might not be a name that Ben Silverman knows but fans of CHUCK should know her name well.

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER Season Finale: The Leap

“Maybe i don’t want to be saved the trouble. Maybe I want the trouble. I haven’t wanted the trouble in a long time, but with you the trouble doesn’t seem so… troubling.”
I think Paula Abdul and MC Scat Kat said it best when they said, “I take two steps forward. I take two steps back. We come together when opposites attract”. There was certainly a bit of a MC Skat Kat and mouse game tonight when Barney and Robin finally spoke of their feelings for one another. Both offered declarations of love coupled with some take backs – baby steps for the emotionally immature.
Ted wrestled a goat which resulted in finding a new career, and the mother of his children. Marshall jumped off a building. Lily tried really hard to hide her baby bump.
It was quite the season finale for HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER. (If you missed it, stop reading now & scroll to the bottom of the page to watch the finale, then come back up & read, ok)
Let’s start slow and work our way up to the good stuff, ok?
ABC’s Announces its 2009-2010 Schedule
May 19, 2009 by Kath Skerry
Filed under #1 featured, Fall TV, Network Upfronts
ABC just announced it’s schedule the for the upcoming 2009-2010 TV season. The network has unveiled a number of new shows a few line-up changes that might surprise you.
The big renewal news was leaked last week – “Castle”, “Better off Ted” and “Scrubs” will be back. Much to the surprise of many, ABC canceled “Samantha Who?”, probably after it’s poor showing this season when it filled in during the break of “Ugly Betty”. Speaking of, the Emmy award winning comedy was moved out of its coveted Thursday night spot and moved to Fridays. That was a bit of a shocker. No mention of “Lost”, but since that show doesn’t come back until 2010 I’m not worried. “Lost” will most likely be back in its Wednesday at 10pm timeslot.
Because of the heavy cross promotion, I expected to see “Flash Forward” on Wednesdays paired with “Lost”, but ABC put it together with “Grey’s Anatomy” on Thursdays. Looks like they are putting the push on winning Thursday nights.
Check back throughout the day for more on each of the new ABC shows unveiled today. And let me know what YOU think of ABC’s new schedule. Seeing any schedule conflicts yet?
MONDAY
8:00 p.m. “Dancing with the Stars” (two-hours) | “The Bachelor” (mid-season)
10:00 p.m. “Castle”
TUESDAY
8:00 p.m. “Shark Tank”
9:00 p.m. “Dancing with the Stars the Results Show” | “Scrubs” (mid-season)
9:30pm: “Better off Ted” (mid-season)
10:00 p.m. “The Forgotten”

Warm up those vocals chords and put the dancing shoes on because the music is taking over TV on this Tuesday evening, and it’s taking over in a big way.
Tonight is the final performance night of AMERICAN IDOL. Tomorrow night the winner is revealed. Can you stand it? And right after IDOL is the one-night preview of GLEE. We’ll have more on the show tomorrow so make sure you check back. And although it’s not a favorite of mine, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention tonight’s season finale of DANCING WITH THE STARS. It’s a musical bonanza!
(Oh and there are other non-musical shows on too…we should probably mention them as well.)
American Idol | 8pm on Fox | Season Finale Part I
Kris Allen and Adam Lambert perform for the last time in competition. Tonight you will vote and decide who will be the next AMERICAN IDOL.[GMMR: Me? I’ll be voting for both guys. Honestly it doesn’t matter to me at all who wins. If Kris wins it will be a big shocker, but either way I’m going to be happy. I think both those guys will be too.]
Glee | 9pm on Fox | Special Preview Event
“Pilot”
Musical comedy-drama about the misfits who make up a high-school glee club and the teacher who leads them, a one-time glee-club star himself. [GMMR: I’m not sure if everyone is aware, but GLEE doesn’t start its season until the Fall. Tonight is just a preview episode. It’s not a summer show. More on GLEE later today.]
The Mentalist | 9pm on CBS | Season Finale
“Red John’s Footsteps”
The team investigates the murder of a girl and the abduction of her sister; Lisbon thinks Patrick is being drawn into a trap.
My Boys | 10:30pm on TBS
“Friends of Friends”
A new friend trend stirs up the gang’s dynamic when PJ forms a fast bond with one of Stephanie’s pals. In addition, Kenny and Mike befriend a customer, a counselor whom Andy despises. Meanwhile, Brendan deals with an unreliable business partner.
A sneak peek at tonight’s MY BOYS
Also playing…
- Reaper | 8pm on The CW: The Devil places Sam in a company that is a front for capturing souls. Also: Sam receives a message from his dad in hell with information about possibly escaping his deal with Satan.
- NCIS | 8pm on CBS | Season Finale: The team travels to Israel, where Ziva has an uneasy reunion with her father (Michael Nouri); Tony has a confrontation with Rivkin; and Gibbs makes an important decision that reverberates throughout NCIS.
- Dancing with the Stars | 8pm on ABC | 3-hr Season Finale: Results show. Another celebrity and dance partner are voted off.
- 90210 | 9pm on The CW | Season Finale: Naomi throws a post-prom party at her place and has a fit when she walks in on Liam and Annie, making accusations that push Annie to her breaking point. Meanwhile, Brenda (Shannen Doherty) goes to the hospital to see Adrianna as she delivers the baby, and Dixon and Ethan get into a fight over Silver.
- Law & Order: SVU | 10pm on NBC: A plaintiff seeking a restraining order provokes an odd request from a judge (Alan Dale): He wants detectives to question a convicted serial killer about his son’s kidnapping, which occurred 30 years ago.
- Without a Trace | 10pm on CBS | Series Finale: In the seventh-season finale (and most likely the show’s series finale), the agents search for a man who vanished after a late-night ocean dive. Meanwhile, Danny and Elena’s relationship deepens.
What will YOU be watching tonight?!
TWILIGHT “New Moon” Poster – I Apolgize in Advance

Update: Um, I meant to say that I’m sharing the poster for “New Moon” starring many TV alums including Peter Facinelli (Fastlane), Billy Burke (My Boys & Gilmore Girls), Kella Lutz (90210), Jackson Rathborne (Beautiful Girls), Michael Welsh (Joan of Arcadia), Nikki Reed (The OC) and Elizabeth Reaser (Grey’s Anatomy)
(Thanks Jen!)
Previous post…
I know this isn’t TV related (believe me, I tried to find some small TV connection to Twilight, and outside Nikki Reed’s brief appearance on THE OC and Billy Burke’s stint on MY BOYS I was at a loss), and you can’t possibly know the shame I feel in posting this. But I must. I can’t help it. Someone* who follows me on Twitter and knows of my confusing and shameful addiction to “Twilight” sent me this picture of the new promotional poster for “New Moon”. And now I share it with you. What is wrong with me?
*I can’t find the email of the person who sent this my way. Please email me so I can thank you personally.
Oh and in case I haven’t embarrased myself enough, please know that this Thursday has been deemed “Twilight Thursday”. Friends, almost all of whom are in their 30’s, who have not seen the movie (and some of us who have, many many times), will be gathering to experience Twilight together. I know, I know…bring it…I can take it. Ha!
GREEK: Divine Secrets of the ZBZ Sisterhood
May 18, 2009 by Kath Skerry
I think I’ve found a silver lining in this gloomy week of season finales – my schedule is now a bit more open to watch other shows which usually are DVR back logged for a few days. Case in point – GREEK.
Tonight was the very first time I’ve ever watched GREEK live. Since I was a late comer to the show, I caught the first season and most of the second either on DVD or iTunes. Once the show came back for the second half of this season it’s been up against CHUCK, GOSSIP GIRL, HOUSE, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER and THE BIG BANG THEORY – so many shows that even my two DVRs couldn’t handle it. So I’ve been watching GREEK on the ABC Family press site (thank you!) or ABCFamily.com. Not ideal. But tonight I was able to watch it live and it was fantastic. ZBZ snaps all around.
The events that took place in tonight’s episode were important in and of themselves, but they also serve as the set up for the rest of the season. Especially the, dare I say truce, between long time rivals Cappie and Evan?! But before we get to the boys let’s talk about the girls.
Having recently declared herself a lesbian, Rebecca sought out the company and advice of CR’s other gay Greeker, Calvin. Calvin advised Rebecca to take it slow, but I don’t think it’s in that girls genes to half ass anything. Rebecca and Robin had a great first date, but when their end of night kiss didn’t set off the fireworks Rebecca expected she wondered whether she might have been wrong in thinking that simply declaring yourself lesbian actually makes you one.
As it turns out, Rebecca was a bit more Anne Heche than Portia DeRossi. Robin took it well and the two decided to remain friends. And now that Beccs is back on the prowl the men of CR better watch out.

The show doesn’t actually start airing until the Fall, but tomorrow night is the special preview of GLEE on Fox. I think by now you’ve probably heard that I loved the premiere episode. Tomorrow I’ll be talking a lot more about why I love it, and why you might not.
But in honor of today’s official pick up by Fox, I thought you might like to get to know a little more about GLEE. Meet the cast and the characters behind this GLEEful new show. (Sorry I tried to resist writing it but there was no controlling this keyboard)

Hey everyone! Tonight was the season finale of Desperate Housewives and it was full of shocks and had quite the cliffhanger ending. Before we get to that, however, I want to talk about the other events of tonight’s episode.
Orson discovered Bree’s storage unit last episode and used it to threaten Bree in order to prevent her from divorcing him. Bree, however, no longer has any interest in Orson. In fact, it looks like Bree’s newest love interest is none other then Susan’s ex- husband Karl. This really came out of nowhere, but I’m excited to see where it goes next season. They’re so wrong for each other that they just might work. First Bree has to get rid of Orson though, which I’m sure will be a major part of next season.
Carlos’s teenaged niece is in need of a home and Carlos convinces Gabby to take her in. She’s trouble from the beginning; in no time at all she has the Scavo boys over doing her chores. In fact, it seems like this is a reoccurring theme for her. She has a closet full of designer clothes from various “boyfriends”. Taking in a troubled teenager is a clichéd storyline but this looks like it could have potential for next season. Especially since she’s so perceptive; there’s no doubt in my mind that Gabby is jealous of the attention she attracts from men.
When visiting a college with one of the twins, Tom decides that he wants to return to college to major in, wait for it, Chinese. Lynette, of course, is against this and attempts to use tequila to stop Tom from getting into the school. Once he explains his reasoning behind his choice of major, however, Lynette is all for his return to academia. You see, it appears Tom is smarter then we thought and wants to learn Chinese so he can break into the Chinese market. It’s actually a very good idea. Too bad it’s probably never going to happen. At the end of the episode, Lynette discovers that not only is she pregnant, she’s having twins. Again. I’m excited for this storyline; having two new babies just in time for November sweeps will give Tom and Lynette new challenges as they juggle work and teenagers with their new babies.
SONS OF TUSCON on Fox – First Look
May 18, 2009 by Kath Skerry
Filed under #1 featured, Fall TV
SONS OF TUSCON will be airing mid-season for Fox from 8:30-9:00pm.
About SONS OF TUSCON…
In the tradition of “Malcolm in the Middle” and “The Bernie Mac Show,” SONS OF TUCSON is a family comedy about three brothers who hire a charming, wayward schemer to stand in as their father when their real one goes to prison. What begins as a business relationship evolves into something more complex and compelling: a family unlike any we’ve ever seen.
The three brothers find their dad-for-hire, RON SNUFFKIN (Tyler Labine, “Reaper”), at the local sporting good store. Ron will be forced to draw on a wide array of skills and a vast bag of tricks as he steps into the patriarch role to take care of the boys of the Gunderson family.
ROBBY GUNDERSON (Davis Cleveland, “How I Met Your Mother”), 8, is a loose cannon who doesn’t respond well to authority; GARY GUNDERSON (Frank Dolce, “Doubt”), 11, is a bright and street-savvy leader who is every bit the con man his father is; and BRANDON GUNDERSON (Troy Gentile, “Entourage”), 13, is a gentle free spirit who simply goes along for the ride. MAGGIE MORALES (Natalie Martinez, “Saints & Sinners”), Robby’s second-grade teacher and the object of Ron’s affection, might just be the only stable figure in the lives of this quirky quartet.
While SONS OF TUCSON is grounded in the day-to-day challenges of a single-parent home, nothing in the Gunderson household is quite what it seems. An ongoing chess match between Ron and the boys will keep both parties on their toes, as neither side can afford to give up too much power or independence.
