THE OFFICE Season Finale: Company Picnic

The following contains SPOILERS for tonight’s season final of THE OFFICE. Read at your own will.
And with that, another season of THE OFFICE ends. I’m finding it quite difficult to write with my heart beating out of my chest. I did NOT see that ending coming, did you? Kudos once again to the OFFICE peeps for keeping stunners like that under wraps. (This is me being purposefully vague as not to spoil anyone until after the jump.)
The annual Dunder Mifflin company picnic brought together all the DM branches for a fun day in the sun. It also meant the reunion of Michael Scott and Holly Flax. And just as she was when she first showed up in Scranton, Amy Ryan was superb. I understand Amy is a big time movie actress but she is so pitch perfect for this show that it’s an absolute shame that she’s not a series regular. The chemistry she has with Steve Carell is impenetrable. And she gets Holly. I don’t know how she didn’t win the Emmy last year for Best Guest Actress in a Comedy but she needs to take home the statue this year.

A big congrats to Philboy who is graduating this week!!!
So, I’m graduating college this week and moving out of my temporary home for four years. Therefore, this week’s review is going to be short, unfortunately. But, a couple of comments on this week and the big question for you all.
I thought this was a fantastic episode in so many ways. I didn’t expect Tony to get caught right away and expected him to elude Jack and Renee until the last few minutes, maybe the last hour. I knew from the previews from last week that we would see Kim again and I knew that she would be in trouble because other than the season where she was a computer technician for no apparent reason, Kim’s sole purpose has been to be a pain in the ass and the princess trapped in the tower that Jack must save.
We found out this week in TV Guide that Annie Wersching and Cherry Jones will be returning next season as Renee and President Taylor respectively, so I predict that Renee will not only be helping Jack save Kim, but killing Tony in the process. Even if it is trite and has been done, I can’t help but be intrigued as to how Jack will save Kim.
Kudos to the team behind “24” for not making Aaron a bad guy. Instead, we get a double bonus of getting Ethan back in the White House to help take Olivia down. While I’m sort of sympathetic towards her, I’m ready for the beatdown that it looks like President Taylor is going to unleash next week after (I’m hoping) Aaron and Ethan look at the recordings.
Only one person died this week, so we’ll have a final kill count next week after the TWO HOUR FINALE (make sure you all turn it on at 8 p.m., people.)
Alrighty, I’m taking bets…How is this all going to end?

His can’t miss shows are “24”, “Chuck” and “How I Met Your Mother.” The thoughts running through his head for this week are, “You’re a graduate.” And “Chloe vs. Janis is the best fight since Jack vs. Anyone”
THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF NEW JERSEY – A Family Affair

Hey GMMRers, please extend a warm welcome to the newest member of Team GMMR, my friend Amy. Amy will be giving us the scoop each week on THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF NEW JERSEY. As you know, I haven’t really been watching THE REAL HOUSEWIVES sagas but I know many of you are. I’m going to try to watch this season, I promise.
Over to Amy…
Every season the housewives lives seem to become more intertwined. The more housewives that can fit into one scene, the greater the chances are for drama.
New Jersey takes it a little further. The cast is not just “friends,” three of them are related. Caroline and Dina are sisters and a third, Jacqueline, is their sister-in-law. If you’re still keeping up with that – the two blood sisters are married to brothers. And there are two or three different Christophers in the mix as well. The other two housewives Theresa and Danielle are acquaintances with Dina, Caroline and Jacqueline. It’s a small town and Dina admits in the first episode “there isn’t a town center.”
They all have the standard housewife requirements – big houses, nice cars, cute kids and most importantly, issues. Here’s what the first episode gave us:
- Caroline & Dina: They are very tight knit they don’t appear to let anyone into their circle.
- Theresa: She wants to get breast implants (or “bubbies” as they call them in Jersey) and shows signs of being an overbearing stage mom.
- Danielle: She is finalizing a divorce and can’t get a settlement from her ex. She is also getting into the dating scene (she gets stood up in the first episode). Danielle and Dina have some beef and are clearly not friends.
- Jacqueline: She is trying to get pregnant again. She is also working on remaining a neutral party to the tension between her family (Dina) and her friend (Danielle).
As Bravo says “Watch what happens!” Or course we will.
Did you watch the premiere episode? Will these Jersey girls be able to hold their own up again the housewives of New York, Atlanta and the O.C.?
THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF NEW JERSEY airs Tuesdays at 10pm on Bravo.

Who Went Home on AMERICAN IDOL?

Next week is the big AMERICAN IDOL finale, but I’ll be honest, I think I’m more excited about tonight’s results show. It won’t be long until we find out if it will be Adam/Danny, Kris/Danny, or Adam/Kris in the finale. I can’t stand it.
As we do every week, we’ll be live blogging tonight’s results show. Watch with us!
Are you ready?
9:02pm: Ben Stiller and some of his co-stars from his night at the museum kick off tonight’s show. I thought all this over-the-top promotional crap was kept until the finale. Ugh.
9:03pm: Ryan tells us that over 88M votes came in last night. It seems that only about 1M votes separated the top two guys tonight. Interesting. I voted for almost two straight hours for Kris Allen (with a few votes going to Adam for good measure). I did my part. Did you?
Could Kris Allen Win AMERICAN IDOL?
May 13, 2009 by Kath Skerry
Live in la la land with me for a moment would you? If (and that’s a very big if) Kris Allen makes it through to next week’s AMERICAN IDOL finale, there is a chance he could win it all. I know I’m talking crazy, but hear me out.
For the sake of this discussion let’s assume that Adam Lambert makes it through to next week. Everyone expects him to and it’s most likely going to happen. That means he’ll be going up against Kris or Danny. Which means the votes for one of those two guys are potentially up for grabs.
We know that Danny Gokey has a large and passionate fanbase, and we have to assume that at least some of his fans are passionate about IDOL and will vote in the finale even if their favorite guy doesn’t make it through. The question is, would Gokey voters pick up the phone for Adam or for Kris? My gut is telling me that the majority would be for Kris. If that is the case, it’s in the realm of possibility that if it came down to Adam and his fans versus Kris and his fans (plus some of Danny’s), that Kris Allen could be the next AMERICAN IDOL.
Talk to me. Am I crazy or could The Gokey fans be the deciding factor if in fact Danny doesn’t make it through tonight? Just thought I’d throw it out there.
SMALLVILLE’s Cassidy Freeman Talks Tess

by Sarah
What’s up GMMRers? I had the honor of interviewing Cassidy Freeman, aka bad ass Tess Mercer. And I have to say she’s pretty bad ass herself! She was not only a pleasure to talk to but nice, genuine, and down to earth. At one point I forgot I was doing an interview and found myself talking about her brother, Clark, also an actor, and her supportive parents.
We also discussed her first time on set with Erica Durance, Lois Lane, in a French made costume! A little nervous (who wouldn’t be) Cassidy says after 20 minutes she was fine.
She enjoys working with a terrific crew that feels like family. She also explained that the best actors are those that can make a fool out of themselves. “Everyone messes up once and a while and you have to be able to laugh it off.”
Truly the opposite of her alter ego, Cassidy’s infectious laugh and carefree spirit only makes you appreciate her skills and talent as an actress even more. Check out the interview where Cassidy fills me in on her role as Tess and the Smallville season 8 finale as much as she can!
Coming on as Lex Luthor’s replacement is a difficult task that I think you did quite seamlessly. Going into this what was your mindset and goals?
First I want to say that I really appreciate you saying that. That’s awesome. And two my goal was to pay really great homage to this character. No one knows if Lex Luthor is going to show up again. I know it was kind of a blow to the series to have him gone and so I wanted to come in and really support that for him and not pretend that Lex is out and Tess is in. So I wanted to do that because Lex is a great character and Michael Rosenbaum is a great actor. And I wanted to make Tess her own because I think it’s important to be her, not necessarily as a replacement, but as someone who comes from the same place but is a different character but that has the same journey. So I hope that was done well.
What would you say are the differences between Lex and Tess?
I think they are really different. Lex has this destiny and he also has this very story driven life And he has this father that has this big influence on him and he has a lot of baggage as a child. I don’t think he was bad to begin with I think life kind of made him that way. Where Tess has also came from a rough background. But it was a very different one and is wasn’t quite as epic and has big and grandiose but she sort of found herself in that world and was wowed by it and then it betrayed her, Lex betrayed her. She realized that the only person she could count on was herself. I think she is starting to use that power but in a different way. I think Lex sort of always felt powerless even though he had everything at his fingertips, and he felt like that one thing he wanted he could never have. And I think Tess is willing to throw caution to the wind to get it
Jon Stewart Says “Don’t Cancel CHUCK”

You never know where you’re going to find a CHUCK fan. During last night’s episode of THE DAILY SHOW, host Jon Stewart made mention of the Save Chuck campaign. Perhaps he was poking a little fun, but I choose to believe that Jon is actually a fan and does indeed want the show saved. At the very least he is aware of all the Save Chuck efforts. I always knew Jon Stewart was cool.

Watch Kris Allen Kill it with “Heartless” by Kanye West

This is when it’s good to have my own blog. Vote for Kris Allen tonight and he just might make it into next week’s AMERICAN IDOL season finale. Kris is the dark horse to make it through to next week but I think he has a shot, especially after his brilliant performance of Kanye West’s “Heartless” tonight.
Vote for Kris: 1-866-IDOLS-02 |1-866-IDOLS-05 |1-866-IDOLS-08 (I’ve been calling and I’ve been getting through. That’s not good. Let’s step it up, people!)

AMERICAN IDOL Top 3 Perfromances
May 12, 2009 by Kath Skerry
Filed under #1 featured, American Idol, American Idol Recap, TV News
Driving home from work tonight it hit me. Next week is the season finale of AMERICAN IDOL. A week from tomorrow we will know who this year’s AMERICAN IDOL will be. Ok, we probably know it already, but next week it will be legit. I can’t stand it. I’m not ready for IDOL to be over. Thank goodness Fox is launching SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE next week (yes next week!!!) or else I might be truly freaking out.
But to get to the finale we first have to say goodbye to one IDOL wannabe. The three guys remaining: Danny Gokey, Kris Allen and Adam Lambert will both be performing two songs tonight. One chosen by the judges, and one they chose themselves. Personal song choice is critical tonight. I hope they choose wisely. (And I secretly hope Adam chooses to sing “Dream On” by Aerosmith, for very obvious reasons).
Danny Gokey
“Dance Little Sister” by Terrance Trent D’Arby (Paula’s Pick)
1-866-IDOLS-01 |1-866-IDOLS-04 |1-866-IDOLS-07
I could be wrong about this one, but I think The Gokey wants all of the little sisters to dance. Just a guess. I kind of wish I had a Gokey fan sitting with me right now, because I think I am way past the point of being able to judge his performance without bias. Listen, he has a large fan base. That’s obvious. He’s just not the type of artist I enjoy. I thought the performance was ok, but I think (a) he shouted 95% of it and (b) it sounded like every other Danny Gokey performance. There’s no subtly to his performances. At this point Danny just needs to show up. The producers want him in the bottom two for reasons that defy me, so he’ll be there.
Judges: Randy thought it was dope. Kara didn’t like the dancing (gasp!) and thought the performance wasn’t that memorable. Paula called her out and said that she is a choreographer and she thought the dancing was great. Simon thought the vocals were very, very good, but thought he would do better with another song.
[GLEE sneak preview a week from tonight! Set the DVRs right now.]
Kris Allen
“Apologize” by One Republic
1-866-IDOLS-02 |1-866-IDOLS-05 |1-866-IDOLS-08
While I thought he performed it well enough, I can’t say that was my favorite song by Kris. There were some interesting melodic choices that paid off, but I didn’t love his falsetto all that much. Kris needed to be 100% flawless tonight in order to keep the judges at bay. I don’t think he was.
Judges: Randy thought is was very nice. Kara thought it was competent but she didn’t think he hit it out of the park. Paula didn’t love it, but she tried to be complimentary. Simon said that Kris that Kris was competent but he didn’t perform it better than the original. But he did call Kara out on criticizing Kris as she was the one that picked the song.
There was also a lot of nonsense about the arrangement. Simon seemed to imply that he worked with Adam on the arrangement of the song he chose for him. He told Randy and Kara that they didn’t put in the effort and if they wanted a different arrangement they should have worked with Kris on it. Then Randy piped in saying they weren’t allowed to do that, and Simon agreed. So which is it? The judges were allowed to work with the contestants and/or with the arrangements of they weren’t?!
Listen I know that Randy, Kara, Paula and Simon don’t read this site, but if they ever did I would beg the to remember that the show is not about THEM! Stop with the childish antics at the judges table. The show goes over every week and it’s not because the contestants are singing too much. It’s because the judges have egos the size of the Nokia Theater and they have to act like five year olds. Every single one of them. So annoying.
Adam Lambert
“One” by U2
1-866-IDOLS-03 |1-866-IDOLS-06 |1-866-IDOLS-09
Once again, Adam gets the pimp spot. Simon said they had to get special clearance in order for Adam to sing the song. Dude, it’s not like this is the first time this song has been performed on the IDOL stage. Elliot Yamin and Mary J. Blige sang it a few seasons back. Simon just wanted to brag that he personally knows Bono. [See above paragraph.]
The song started off beautifully. Simply stunning. Then the tempo picked up and Adam went on to full on scream mode. I liked the Adam scream…in moderation. That was just way too much for me. Had he stuck with the slower version he would have killed it. Just ok for me, Dawg. You have no worries for next week, my friend.
Judges: Randy wasn’t a fan of the screaming part either but he had a hard time saying that since it wasn’t in his script. Kara thought the arrangement was unbelievable. Paula said it was brilliant and she called him the American Idol. Simon thought it was a brilliant song choice. He said it Adam wasn’t in the finale last week it would be the biggest upset in the history of the show.
