Tonight I’ll be live blogging the results show. If you’re watching, use the comment below to share your thoughts on the couples dancing for their lives. Will your favorites live to dance another day?
Tonight’s opening number was choreographed by the fabulous Mia Michaels. It didn’t do much for me if I’m being honest. It was lacking that “wow” factor. Everyone was really dancing on their own and there didn’t seem to be any cohesiveness. I’m sure it was loved by many. That’s ok.
9:06pm: There’s no kidding around tonight. Cat gets right to the fate of the first three dance groups.
- Ade & Melissa – SAFE
- Jason & Caitlin – Bottom Three
- Philip & Jeanine – SAFE
A little frustrating. Jeanine and Philip were the weakest couple last night, by my estimate. Philip’s fans really went out of their way to vote last night. Disappointed, by not surprised, that Caitlin and Jason will be dancing for their lives.
9:15pm: Back from the commercial and the fabulous and stunning Cat Deeley has the next three couples on the stage, ready to learn whether or not they’ll be moving on to next week’s performance show
- Brandon & Jeanette – SAFE
- Karla & Jonathan – SAFE
- Ashley & Kupono – Bottom three
Of this three, the right group is in the bottom three tonight. Karla and Jonthan made a big impression on fans last night.
9:24pm: Spotlight on Ryan Kasprzak, Evan’s brother. He’s going to Vegas in Season 6!! I could cry right now. So happy he gave it another shot for Seaosn 6.
9:26pm: What a bittersweet moment it would be if Evan is now sent to the bottom three. No way it’s going to happen.
- Randi & Evan – SAFE
- Auska & Vitolio – SAFE
- Kayla & Max – Bottom three
What?! Are you kidding me? I am shocked right now.
9:30pm: So for the girls it’s either Caitlin, Ashley or Kayla going home. For the guys it’s between Jason, Kupono and Max.
Who will it be? Before we even see their solos, my gut is telling me we are going to be saying goodbye to Kupono and Ashley tonight. I think Kupono is a given, but Ashley could save herself with her solo. If she’s outstanding, it could be Caitlin leaving us tonight. Kayla could practically stand there and brush her hair and the judges would save her.
Let’s see who YOU think will go home before the solos.
[Comments: Kimber – “I think Kupono will be going home tonight. Not certain about the girls, though, as I think all three in the bottom are pretty fantastic. Judging by the judges and their views, I think it will be between Ashley and Caitlin, most likely Ashley.”]
9:37pm: Caitlin is up first with her solo. She was much more impressive than I thought she would be. And “To Make You Feel My Love” by Adele?! I’m downloading that tonight.
9:38pm: There is no way Jason can home after that solo. Beautiful.
9:39pm: Ashley is up next. I enjoyed her solo tonight but I’m not sure it was enough to take on Caitlin.
9:40pm: Kupono. So interesting to watch. He moves so differently than anyone else in the competition, but I don’t think this solo will be enough to save him.
[Comments: Patty – “I am disappointed in both Ashley & Kupono. Neither of them used their time to show the judges why they should stay. Running around and long pauses do not get that message across. You have what? 30 seconds to impress? Color me not impressed.”]
9:45pm: I didn’t find Kayla’s solo anything special. I actually thought she was the weakest of all the girls. But again, she’s not going anywhere tonight.
9:45pm: Max is cutting Footloose tonight. He’s all footwork so it was good song choice. I think it’s tough when a ballroom dancer has to dance solo. But he deserves to stay.
[Comments: ClioBC: I think it’s Kupono going home, which bums me out, I liked him. As for the women – geez, you know I was underwhelmed by Kayla, but I don’t think the judges will send her home, so I think it’s Ashley.]
9:48pm: Krisitiana Debarge is doing a terrible job at lip syncing. Sorry, but you are a complete joke.
9:52pm: We’re back from the commercial break and the judges have made their decision.
The judges weren’t unanimous in either of their votes tonight. However, two people need to go home.
For the girls, going home tonight is Ashley.
For the guys, it’s Max.
We say a fond farewell to Ashley and Max.
WOW! And with that decision, by first tears of Season 5. I didn’t have a strong connection with Max, but it’s sad because he truly did nothing to deserve an ousting tonight. It’s so tough this early in the competion. Ugh, gut wrenching.
We wish them both well.
Kupono and Kayla will partner up next week. Should be an interesting pair.

The group dances have been just plain weird so far this year. I want something fun. Please!
LOL, loved the Lil C package – he reminds me of that Damon Wayans character from In Living Color, you know, the ‘hyperliterate’ prisoner?
I liked the opening number – the Maori face tattoos and dance style, was off the wall but I thought worked well with that song
I can’t believe (well, yes, I can) that Phillip and Jeanine are safe. They should have had to dance. I think it would have done them good.
Mia’s opening number was pretty wild! But oh no Caitlin & Jason!!!
Maybe I need to give Mia Michaels opening number another look.

Is it just me, or was there a hint of Carlton (Fresh Prince) in Brandon’s Disco last night? I really enjoyed it, but just kept thinking of Carlton when Brandon was flinging his head around. 🙂
ClioBC: What’s “fletch”? I don’t know if I’m familiar with that one.
Karla and Jonathan really impressed me last night, and I already love me some Brandon & Jeanette. But I thought Ashley was fantastic in the hip hop routine! Too bad the entire couple has to go down for that.
‘fetch’ – it’s from MEAN GIRLS, the phrase that Lacey Chabert’s character makes up and tries to work into a hip phrase.
Vanessa, LOL! That’s exactly who Brandon was reminding me of, I couldn’t place it then, but it’s totally Carlton … cue ‘It’s Not Unusual’!
I really hope that Kupono dances well enough to save himself….but I like Jason, too. I kind of hope Vitolio is the third guy in the bottom three and that he goes home.
I think I might be most excited that Ryan made it to Vegas than anything else tonight!
Is this the first time a new season has been auditioning while the prior season is still running?
Looks like I totally called the saving of a few dancers for fall season…

wow! Kayla and max in the bottom? I thought they did fantastic. Both will be saved.
Two if the three couple I picked to dance are going to have to. I think It’s the best I have ever done! Lets see if we get anything impressive…
Kimber, yes it is because its the first time they are doing back to back seasons. Smartly too, the show has matured enough to be able to hook prime time ratings in the fall.
So pre-solo predictions? I say Philip and Ashley will go.

Very stunned about Kayla and Max … I do like Vitolio, but Asuka does nothing for me.
Nigel might be a bit mistaken that none of them have a following yet…I’m pretty sure that is what saved Phillip tonight!

No!!!!! I love Max! I am so bummed. I thought he was great in that jazz routine (and really, who didn’t want to see him try hip hop lol). I think they booted him based solely on a lack of vocal fan support. So bummed.

Max wasn’t really a stand out to me, but I think he gave a great performance in his pair, and in his solo – he didn’t deserve to go home. Ashley I really enjoyed, but I had a feeling she’d be the one to go. Kayla & Kupono – should be interesting indeed!
Hmm… did not like that guy choice. 🙁 Ballroom is very hard to do a solo for. Plus, Nigel mentioned yesterday that a dancer should do their field for their solo not something else.
However, Kayla and Kupono will be interested.
Oh, I agreed with your earlier points, GMMR, from yesterday: I wasn’t all that moved with Asuka’s and Vitollio’s dance yesterday. We’ll just be heartless together. 😉
That was a tough one. Perhaps it was all the booze in my system, but I had a stronger reaction than I expected with Max’s departure.
I think it’s tough because two weeks in these people haven’t had a fair chance to really show their talent.
I liked max but he had to go… I’m excited for next week!
I’m really bummed about Max too. He was never a fave but I always felt bad for him as the judges lavished praise over Kayla while he quietly smiled beside her. At least it wasn’t Jason! I would rather have lost Caitlin tonight too but she did give the better solo so I guess I can’t be too upset. I just don’t get anything from her.
Also – yay Ryan! Adorable! and add me to the Heartless (*cue the Kris Allen music) bunch that didn’t feel last night’s waltz.
I know Jenette in real life we have danced together since FOREVER.

My three favorite girls ended up being in the bottom three :(… (already? really?) I’m just bummed that Ashley was sent home when she did so well last night! I even liked her solo… she’s a strong dancer as well as a risk-taker.
the lip syncing performance was PAINFUL and embarrassing for the show, and unnecessary overall
Max never had a fair chance if you ask me. We saw about three seconds of him and then he was gone. In my opinion Asuka and Vitolio should have gone home. I like Ashley and I don’t like Caitlin but sadly Ashley spent the first 20 seconds of her solo dancing around the stair rail. That’s always the kiss of death.
I really didn’t think they’d get rid of Max. He is the only guy ballroom and they used that as an excuse last week to keep Asuka (only one in their respective dance.) I am happy that they didn’t get rid of Jason (my TVbf) or Kupono, but its sad that Max is the one that had to go.
For some reason I really want Vitolio gone….that guy creeps me out. I think its from the pre-dance interviews.
Based on the Solos, I did think Max was a goner. That solo was nothing that was all encompassing, and I bet there was a big fight over who to send home between the judges.
Ashley’s solo was meh. I knew she was gone.
And the lip synching (can we even call it that when she wasn’t even really in synch?) by Kristiania Debarge? Worst I have seen in my entire life. Worse than the Ashley Simpson debacle on Saturday Night Live when she walked off.
Loved the Carlton reference. I was trying to place that move as well! It was great!
Really surprised that they split up the couples and also that they got rid of a ballroom dancer since it seems that 98% of them are contemporary. I really liked all three girls and it’s too bad that Auska wasn’t in the bottom. She’d have gone for sure. I think Ashley is so beautiful and her facial expressions and those huge eyes are what made their Wade Robson routine so great Week 1. I hate to see her go. But I didn’t want to see Caitlyn go either. I have no allegiance to Kayla yet. I keep forgetting who she is until they talk about her grandparents and then I think “oh yeah, that’s who she is”.
I LOVED the Mia Michaels routine! Great song, great moves, and Ade really stood out! Those tiger-like moves and faces with the tiger-like face make-up was awesome. I loved those leaps (more like “pounces”) that one of the guy groups made upstage. Watched it 3 times (so far)!
PHILIP should go!!!!! all he knows is hip hop. Jeanine deserves a better partner. End of story……….
I am so upset with American”s voting. The best dancer went home tonight, Jeanette. She was given some dances last night that were not very popular. She danced them well. But they lacked good choreography. SHE TRULY WAS THE BEST>
