My Sunday Night with John Krasinski & Maya Rudolph – Boston Screening of “Away We Go”

Sometimes my life doesn’t suck. Last night I attended the Boston premiere of “Away We Go“, the new indie romantic-comedy directed by Sam Mendes and starring John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph. And as luck would have it, the stars of the movie made a surprise appearance, along with writer Dave Eggers. Not a bad Sunday night.
Let me start out by saying the movie was fantastic. John and Maya, as Burt and Verona, take the audience on a beautiful adventure as they try to find a place to call home for them and their baby on the way. The movie is gorgeous and poignant, with a lot of laughter and joy. Krasinski and Rudolph both give amazing performances. Maya, who I hadn’t seen much of outside of SNL, was so ethereal and breath taking that she captured my attention and never let go. Not an easy task given my affection for her co-star. As for Mr. Krasinski, well, this is the type of movie he should be doing. I think he is a gifted actor who will be around for quite some time, but as we know he’s had a somewhat rocky transition to the big screen. Give the right role he really has so much to offer. With the risk of sounding condescending, I was so proud of him.
I’m not much of a movie critic and I don’t want to pretend to be, but I will say that personally I adored the movie and I’ll definitely be seeing it again in the theaters once it premieres on June 12th. I hope you’ll check it out too.
After the film, Rudolph, Krasinski and Eggers took the stage for a Q&A. Had I known this was happening I would have been better prepared. No recorder or notebook at my disposal. And I’m sorry but when my favorite TV actor is sitting 10 feet away from me I can’t be relied upon to remember much of anything that was said. Although I do recall being given the opportunity to ask the first question of the night. I asked about Maya’s transition from SNL to this more subtle role. And as a side I jokingly asked John if this role helped him to be more prepared for his role as expectant father on THE OFFICE. John at first misinterpreted my question and thought I was asking if he was going to be an expectant father. He said no but solicited volunteers from the audience (twice none the less). One should not joke about such things in my presence. I was about to jump on that stage. Kidding of course…kind of.
[Here are a few pics & a super short video from last night. The theater was dark & the video on my camera wasn’t working. Told you I wasn’t prepared.]

There are going to be a lot more Monday nights between now and when CHUCK premieres in the winter. But that doesn’t mean you have to go without. If you are a devoted fan of the series who is just going through withdrawl, or better yet someone who was late to the CHUCKwagon, then tonight is the night for you!
The folks over at ChuckTV.net will be having a sort of viewing party every Monday night during which they’ll re-watch CHUCK from the beginning. The event kicks off tonight with the pilot episode. Definitely check it out and help spread the word of CHUCK.
If watching with others just isn’t your thing, then watch CHUCK on your own terms. Episodes are available both on Hulu (http://www.hulu.com/chuck) and on TheWB.com (http://www.thewb.com/shows/chuck). But you should just go ahead and buy both seasons on DVD and have the episodes to watch whenever you want Chuck – The Complete First Season and pre-order Chuck: The Complete Second Season.
We here at GMMR have our own CHUCK funtivities in the works. Can’t say much right now, but I’ve been in contact with a few people on the CHUCK side of the house and let’s just there will be ample opportunities to stay connected to the show throughout this long hiatus.

June?! When did it become June? Ok, technically I guess it was this morning at midnight, but still…I can’t believe it. Maybe it’s the lack of good weather here on the East Coast. Bring on the summer!
I hope you all had a good weekend. Well rested and ready to head back to work? No…me neither. Although I did have a good great fabulous weekend. The rain ended just in time on Friday night for the Dave Matthews concert at Fenway Park. And last night, a special treat for fans at the Boston screening of the new Sam Mendes film, “Away We Go” – stars Maya Rudolph, John Krasinski and writer Dave Eggers were on hand for a Q&A after the movie. I had the chance to meet John after the movie, and I’ll share more of that later. But yeah, not a bad weekend.

Bruno & Eminem at the MTV Movie Awards: What Happened?
June 1, 2009 by Kath Skerry

Reports coming from those attending the MTV movie awards say that the altercation between Sacha Baron Cohen’s alter ego, Bruno, and Eminem was indeed real. Some say that Marshall Mathers was indeed pissed and really did storm out of the theater. I’m not sure I believe it.
Oh wait, you don’t know what happened? My bad. In short, Bruno clad in only angel wings and a thong descended down upon the audience after the harness holding him up lost control. And it just so happened that his ass landed in the face of Eminem. Planned or not, it was rather disgusting. Em demanded that his crew get Baron off of him. One they did, Em and his guys were seen leaving the theater.
Here’s what I don’t get though. Did camera just happen to show Eminem right before Baron was flying down? And was it just a coincidence that a camera was right there when Eminem left his seats and walked out of the theater? Perhaps.
Take a look and watch for yourself.
What do YOU think? Was it real or was it staged?
Thanks to Reina for passing the video along.
