The Top 8 performed on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE and once again Dan and I are back to talk everything good, bad and droopy eyed.
We ponder whether or not guest judge Ellen DeGeneres was a necessary addition to the show and more importantly if a backstory can manipulate the audience to the point that it corrupts the purpose of the show.

PROJECT RUNWAY All Star Challenge Reveals Contestants
July 22, 2009 by Kath Skerry
Filed under #1 featured, Project Runway
You know I love me some All Star seasons of reality shows. So imagine my joy when I got word that PROJECT RUNWAY would send some of my favorite designers of past years down the catwalk once again in a brand new All Star Challenge. Sadly it seems we won’t have an All Star season as much as a two-hour All Star special, but I’ll take what I can get.
Tim Gunn will once again make these designers work and try his best to keep them away from Heidi Klum and her auf Weidersehn. Michael Kors and Nina Garcia might be a bit tougher this time around since these designers are no longer amateurs.
The winner will walk away with $100,000. Not too shabby.
The designers competing in Project Runway: All-Star Challenge are as follows:
- Daniel Vosovic, Season 2
- Santino Rice, Season 2
- Jeffrey Sebelia, Season 3
- Uli Herzner, Season 3
- Mychael Knight, Season 3
- Chris March, Season 4\
- Sweet P, Season 4
- Korto Momolu, Season 5
Of course I’m disappointed not to see Christian Soriano on the list, but I’m sure he’s got enough keeping him busy these days. But selfishly I would have loved to see his ego go up against Santino’s. (Sadly Andre won’t be part of this season…maybe he’s at the Red Lobster).
This special All Star 2-hour episode will air on Lifetime at 8pm on Thursday, August 20th, right before the premiere of Season 6 of PROJECT RUNWAY.
Are you excited about the PROJECT RUNWAY All Star Challenge? Are some of your favorite designers taking part? Who didn’t make the list that you would have loved to see?
WAREHOUSE 13: It’s All About ‘Magnetism’
July 22, 2009 by Sarah Curtis
Filed under #1 featured, Posts by Sarah (Seels), Warehouse 13
Do you smell fudge? Is your gall bladder feeling numb? If so, you might be affected by one of the artifacts in WAREHOUSE 13! Or… you might just be watching the show. I hope you were. And I hope you liked it as much as I did. I thought, with the exception of a couple of botched scenes, that this was the best episode of the season (and not just because Pete was shirtless in the first 10 minutes). Counting the two hour pilot, we’re four episodes into it with 9 more. Yay!
In this episode, Pete and Myka are sent to Colorado where people are acting strangely. A kind nun jumps off a roof, a young music protégé destroys his violin, an elderly widow smashes a pot against a wall and a man’s face against a pastry display case, and it’s up to M & P to figure out exactly WHAT the artifact even is and then retrieve it. Meanwhile Artie tries to figure out who has breached the warehouse.
Pete and Myka don’t fight, they bicker! I thought their timing was very good and fun in this episode. Them getting slimed was dope in a Double Dare kind of way, but the subsequent laughing and wrestling felt a little forced. I guess they…like each other. I’m not talking about love or UST or anything like that, just genuine affection. And, like I said last week, it’s one of the things I love about the show, that Pete and Myka have accepted the importance of their partnership and mission and are really trying to make it work. I think their strength is in the bicker though, and not so much in the collaborating against Artie for tricking them kind of thing (which was a pretty funny trick). What do you think? Are you feeling Pete and Myka as friends? Something more?

Everyone say Happy Birthday to my Dad! It’s his big day today.
And it’s also a big day for me because it’s SYTYCD performance night (it doesn’t take much to make me happy). Our weekly SYTYCD party is on, and that means so is the SYTYCD edition of The TV Talk Podcast. So tune in later tonight or early tomorrow to get Ducky and my’s take on tonight’s performance episode.
And even if you’re not a regular watcher of SYTYCD, you might want to tune in tonight as Ellen DeGeneres will be a special guest judge.
But of course there’s much more than SYTYCD on tonight, so here’s a few more shows for your consideration including LEVERAGE and DARK BLUE on TNT and TOP CHEF MASTERS on Bravo.
Here are a few highlights from tonight’s TV lineup. If I missed anything leave me a comment or tweet me at twitter.com/gmmr.

Leverage | 9pm on TNT
“The Tap-Out Job”
Nate’s mates scheme against a crooked fight promoter. But their mark is on to the sting, forcing Eliot to enter the ring. Mixed-martial-arts fighters Ed Herman and Matt Lindland guest star.
I Survived a Japanese Game Show | 9pm on ABC
Contestants must immerse their heads in frigid water to catch dead fish with their mouths and compete dressed as babies to pour milk without spilling it as they compete to win the $50,000 grand prize.
Dark Blue | 10pm on TNT
“Guns, Strippers & Wives”
Ty goes undercover to take down a gun trafficker, but he breaks crucial rules by seeing his wife on her birthday, potentially blowing his cover. Carter must obtain a cool $100,000 to protect Ty’s mission—and save his life. [GMMR: Damn! I guess I missed the premiere of the show last week. I’ll try to catch it tonight but with SYTYCD it’s going to be tough. Are any of you watching?! I need to hear from you.]
The Philanthropist| 10pm on ABC
“Kosovo”
Teddy tells his ex-wife about his business venture to Kosovo; Philip and A.J. fear that Teddy has taken on more than he can handle.

BIG BROTHER – Let’s Play Catch Up
July 21, 2009 by Kath Skerry
Filed under #1 featured, Big Brother, Big Brother Recap, TV News
I’ll be honest with you. I’ve been really struggling to cover BIG BROTHER 11 this season on GMMR. It’s not that I’m not watching the show…I am. Too much. And once again I’m having a love/hate relationship with it. (More on that in a minute). My problem is that I’ve been religiously watching Showtime’s BIG BROTHER After Dark and so I’m a few days ahead of what’s happening on the weekly shows that air on CBS. It’s been hard for me to write about the show because I can’t always keep straight what you all have seen on CBS as opposed to what I’ve seen on BB After Dark. In a game that changes daily, how am I supposed to write about the CBS show when I know not only the consequences but the events that have transpired since the last broadcast.
It’s tough I tell ya.
So here’s where I am now. I thought I’d just jump in and post away. Since it’s my first BB post of the season, I’ll take a little time to talk about the game, share my quick thoughts on the houseguests, briefly talk about what happened during tonight’s POV and then fill you in on what happened behind the scenes this week leading up to tonight’s POV ceremony. (As in I won’t spoil anything outside of this episode, so no worries.)
I’ll leave it to the GMMR/BIG BROTHER fans to let me know what you want me to cover. Do you want my thoughts on the weekly episodes? Commentary on the strategy of the players? Perhaps an update on what’s going on inside the BB house based on what I’m seeing during BB AD? Take to the comments and let me know.
Let’s Talk Game Play…
Now, getting back to my aforementioned love/hate relationship with the show. I don’t know if I love or hate these houseguests more or less than I have in previous seasons. The HGs got into game play mode so fast that we didn’t get a chance to know any of them outside of their catty little cliques. BIG BROTHER was smart to separate the houseguests based on their roles in high school, because they all certainly are acting like they’re back in their adolescent years.
If you’ve read this far, I’m going to assume that you’ve actually been watching BIG BROTHER this season and therefore have an opinion on the houseguests. For me, the only HG that I am really pulling for is Jeff. Hands down this is my guy this season. He’s by far the most mature. The most intelligent. And despite a few minor slip-ups, he’s doing his very best to remember that this is a game, and that people needed to be respected as human beings first and foremost. He might not be the most strategic gamer but he’s learning fast. He just needs to be more confident and get involved in the game play a little more.
As for the other HGs, here’s my uber-quick rundown (in order of personal preference). I’m sure many will disagree, but here’s where I am.

Free iTunes Downloads of CHUCK, SUPERNATURAL & more for Comic Con Attendees

Fine…rub it in.
If you were at Comic Con last year, you probably noticed that Warner Bros had delightfully branded some of the room keys of area hotels in San Diego. I know I collected a few PUSHING DAISIES keys as a memento. Well this year they’re doing it again, but they’re being just a bit smarter about it. See these special room keys serve a dual purpose – yes, they can successfully get you into your hotel room (provided you slide the key in the right direction which always proves to be a challenge for me) AND you can download free eps from iTunes. Smart!
So if you’re heading to Comic Con make sure to keep an eye out for these special room keys to get free iTunes downloads of CHUCK, FRINGE, SUPERNATURAL, SMALLVILLE and the motion comic SUPERMAN RED SON
Fans can download the designated free episode on iTunes as of July 20 for the television series and July 24 for the “Superman Red Son” motion comic. The free episode offer must be redeemed by August 4, 2009.
Are you going to Comic Con this year?

Hilarious because this is the chaos of the house – 12 houseguests all taking at each other at the same time. It was pure, unadulterated chaos. It’s also quite sad…because I was able to follow along with what is going on!

What will YOU be watching tonight?
10 Things I Hate About You | 8pm on ABC Family | Series Premiere
Bianca needs help getting to a house party her father has forbidden her to attend; Kat needs a fake ID after Patrick invites her to a concert. [GMMR: I was NOT a fan of the premiere episode. I thought it was chessey and weak. But I caught last week’s episode and I liked it more than I thought I would. I found it quite amusing. I’m not adding this show as a season pass, but I’ll give it another shot. Maybe you should too.]
Hell’s Kitchen | 8pm on Fox
The 16 chefs are sent to the kitchen to create their signature dishes; one chef has a confrontation with Gordon Ramsay during the elimination round. [GMMR: Really? A chef has a confrotation with a chef? Shocking.]

“Pilot”
In the series opener, teenage Ruby (Alexa Vega) reconnects with her dad, David (David Cassidy), a pop star whose heyday was in the ’80s. David then seeks out his estranged brother and former bandmate, Patrick (Patrick Cassidy), who’s now a suburban dad from whom David needs helps.

Big Brother 11 | 9pm on CBS
Strangers coexist in a house hoping to win the cash prize. On tonight’s episode we will see this week’s POV competition as well as the POV ceremony…I think. [GMMR: I’m so far behind on BIG BROTHER. Well, that’s a lie – I’m way ahead on watching BIG BROTHER, but I’m behind on writing about it. Will today be the day?]

NURSE JACKIE is the Summer’s Right Medicine
July 21, 2009 by Kath Skerry
Filed under #1 featured, Nurse Jackie
NURSE JACKIE continue to be the highlight of my Monday night TV lineup. Hell, it’s one of the highlights of the whole summer. With every episode Edie Falco further cements her lock for an Emmy. There is nothing false about her portrayal of the complicated but good Jackie Peyton. Here’s a woman who is a secret drug addict, who cheats on her wonderful husband, and yet I have nothing but sympathy for her. Despite some of her well meaning, but dastardly deeds, Jackie is a good person. She’s managed to get herself into some complicated situations, but rather than hope she finds her way out – away from the drugs, away from her cheating ways – I find myself rooting for her not to get caught. A lesser actress wouldn’t be able to pull off such a complicated role and she wouldn’t be able to elicit such sympathy. Edie Falco asks us the audience to love Jackie despite giving us, at least on the surface, reasons to truly dislike her. I say bravo!
The supporting cast continues to shine as well. There’s not a character that I’m not a fan of – well, there’s Mrs. Akalitus – but I don’t think I’m supposed to like her. Coop is brilliant and oblivious at the same time. O’Hara is sassy, self absorbed, and a good friend. Eddie is a bit whiny but with a good heart. Mo-Mo is the no-nonsense gay that every girl needs. And finally, my favorite of the All Saints staff – Zoey. Come Emmy time I hope Merrit Wever is recognized for her pitch perfect performance of the first year nurse with a lot to learn and a lot to teach. Her performance of Zoey compliments Falco’s Jackie at every turn. The sharp verse the soft. The jaded verse the enthusiastic. The rules breaker verse the by-the-book goodie two shoes. Zoey has so much to learn from Jackie, but at the same time she reminds Jackie of what is was like to not be burdened by all the BS that comes with the job, and with life.
NURSE JACKIE is worth calling your cable company to order Showtime. It’s my can’t miss cable show of the summer.
I don’t know if there is an audience here on GMMR to talk about the show every week, but if you want to, just let me know in the comments. If you’ve been watching NURSE JACKIE, tell us what YOU think of the characters, the cast the recent plot developments. Loving it, hating it or somewhere in between?
HBO’s Sunday Night Boys: HUNG & ENTOURAGE
July 20, 2009 by Kath Skerry
Filed under #1 featured, Entourage, Hung, TV News
I don’t know about you, but on Sunday night’s my TV is set to HBO. With the 1-2-3 hit of TRUE BLOOD, HUNG and ENTOURAGE, HBO is where all the cool kids hang out on Sunday nights.
Philboy already shared his thoughts on last night’s TRUE BLOOD, so let’s have a quick chat about HBO’s other Sunday night shows.
HUNG
Despite having enjoyed the pilot more than most, I’ve been disappointed in HUNG over the past two weeks. I’m really going to need the show to pick up the pace a little bit if I’m going to keep watching. Not much of anything has really been happening. Hopefully Ray’s new “clients” will mean this show will actually start going somewhere. Storywise, there’s nothing to really sink your teeth into. Tanya is borderline pathetic. Ray’s problems with his neighbor are boring (although if the neighbor’s wife starts looking for a little “happiness” it could get interesting). And am I the only one that thinks the scenes with Jessica and the kids are pointless? I love, love, love the casting of Ray’s kids and I’m really to take on a bigger role in the series.
I’m not understanding how the show can drag this much in only the third episode. I’ll be sticking with it for now, but mostly because it’s sandwiched in between two can’t-miss series. Here’s to hoping the show adds a little spice. Given the subject matter, it shouldn’t be that hard (oh come on…it’s killing me not to add a ‘that’s what she said’ here…wait, I just did.)
ENTOURAGE
Hopefully the writers and producers of ENTOURAGE have learned their lesson – despite how realistic the ups and downs of Hollywood may be, a downtrodden Vinnie Chase does not make for good TV. But our boy is back on top and so is ENTOURAGE. I know it’s only two weeks into the new season, but I like the direction the show seems to be taking. I think it’s going to be great for these guys to start having their own lives. Drama is a somewhat successful TV actor. Eric’s career is starting to take off and he finally has his own place, and hopefully Sloane will come around soon (because seriously, I can’t watch the anorexic actress they have stalking E. Are we supposed to ignore her hideous eating disorder?) . Turtle and Jamie Lyn seem quite happy. And Vince is back on top – where he should be.
TRUE BLOOD Recap: Never Let Me Go
July 20, 2009 by Philboy
Filed under #1 featured, Posts by Philboy, True Blood
This episode was a lot of relationship stuff, not much to further the big plot lines but at least get them to a new section for the next few weeks.
Sookie, Bill and Jessica
Sookie can’t get Barry, the telepathic bellboy to talk to her. He warns her that the Dallas vampires are dangerous and out of control and aren’t really nice to humans as a whole. Jessica is punished for ordering “room service” and starts to talk to Hoyt over the phone. Bill continues to feel the pressure of trying to protect everyone while not having the control over any of the decisions. Sookie tells him that that’s what being a human is like and tells him that she will stay safe.
When they meet with the Dallas vampires, it quickly becomes clear that the Bon Temps crew was invited as a courtesy and that all of the Dallas vampires have war in mind with the Fellowship of the Sun, who they are positive took Godrick. In order to stop all of the arguing and save all of the area humans, Sookie volunteers to infiltrate the Fellowship of the Sun and find out a) who took Godrick and b) who is working both sides. Eric is so interested in Godrick because Godrick is (was?) his maker.
At the end of the episode, we learn that Barry quit the hotel. Then, a random female vampire shows up, fangs out.
This is obviously the main storyline of the season, as it should be. We returned from the “Marianne is Crazy Hour” of the past couple weeks and got back to learning a lot more about vampire relations. This season has delved a little deeper into the way that coming out of the coffin has affected all sorts of things and how all of the traditions of vampires work in the mainstream world. Plot elements like this are what I’ve been craving all season, so I loved it.

Tweens get ready to take sides because there’s a feud brewing. Seems that Robert Pattinson of “Twilight” and Daniel Radcliffe of “Harry Potter” fame have a few choice words for each other. See the two battle it out where all great battles take place – on YouTube.
Funny stuff! Loved “Robert Pattinson” in the tree, although he was a little harsh on the HP films considering he was in one of them. Cedric Diggory FTW!
Me? I’m Team Cullen…and Team Fallon!
