WAREHOUSE 13: Breakdown

Warehouse 13

Warehouse 13

Beggars can’t be choosers, Warehouse 13 watchers, you know? And while I have been waiting all season for a ‘warehouse-centric’ episode, this one was also heavy on the Claudia, which is just not my cup of Leena’s Bed and Breakfast tea. I’m not complaining; I’m just saying that this episode was a like, not love for me.

General Premise: Artie is away dealing with top secret issues, and Pete and Myka get the day off, while Claudia has chores.

Of course, it doesn’t work out that way, when Claudia accidentally sets off a Rube Goldberg-esque series of hazardous events (who has a release button on a zip line? And if you DO, why isn’t it guarded by glass, at least?).

But it’s up to our two top secret agents to find her and then get themselves out of the mess she created. One very interesting part of the warehouse was the replica of Leena’s B & B, from which they at first could not escape. I laughed a lot at Pete’s attempts, especially him jumping out one window only to fall into the one right next to it. Many months ago, I read the pilot script, and there was this great thread where Pete and Myka show up at Leena’s for the first time, and it is nothing special. But once they have solved the first case and agreed to stick around, they go back to the B and B for the night and each of their bedrooms has become the perfect bedroom. I missed that in the pilot, and when I saw ‘Bizarro-Leena’s’, I thought maybe that would happen. Alas, no.

Who Won HOH on BIG BROTHER?

Yikes! Sorry…I was out tonight and didn’t realize that so many people would be coming here trying to find out who won tonight’s HOH competition on BIG BROTHER.

I’m just turned on the live feeds now and Natalie, Kevin and Jordan are on still in the game.  I’ll be back with updates as soon as there is news to share.

Stay tuned…

(Go Jordan…Go Kevin….Go everyone who is not named Natalie!)

While we’re waiting, head over to CBS and cast your vote for your favorite houseguest. That person will win a special $25,000 prize. I think you all know who gets my vote this season.

11:14pm EST: The houseguests are facing some treacherous weather but all three of them are still walking on the log.

12:46am EST: These fools are still hanging on. Big Brother could make them fall off. I’m convinced they aren’t going to turn up the heat (so to speak) until half way through BIG BROTHER AFTER DARK. It’s the new Fall season and Showtime will want as many people as possible to be watching their little promo breaks. Just my opinion.

1:21am EST: Just fall already people! I’m not young anymore. I need to sleep.

1:28am EST: JORDAN just fell. Nooooooo!

In a special Tuesday eviction, another one of the houseguests went home tonight.  HOH Natalie originally placed Kevin and Michelle on the block for eviction.  But when Kevin won POV and took himself on the block, it was Jordan that took his place.

So was it Michelle or Jordan joining Jeff, Russell, Lydia and Jessie in the jury house?

There’s No Place Like MELROSE PLACE

September 8, 2009 by

Cautiously optimistic. That’s what I’m feeling about the all new MELROSE PLACE, premiering tonight at 9/8c on The CW. Like many others, I groaned with displeasure last year upon hearing the news that The CW was yet again resurrecting one of my favorite guilty pleasures of yesteryear. As a fan of the original 90210, I wasn’t pleased with fancy new version that launched last year and so it’s fair to say that my expectations for the new MELROSE were decidedly low. All this of course before I ever watched the pilot. But now that I have, as I said before, I’m going with cautiously optimistic.

I think its fair to assume you’re going to see the same trashtastic drama, overindulgence, and bed-hopping that was part of the original MELROSE PLACE – but I didn’t say that was a bad thing. In fact this particular MELROSE PLACE has all those things, but this time around the show is owning it. The producers know what worked with previous version of this show and it seems like they are trying to build off the best of the former MELROSE.

While far from perfect, I was actually surprised by how much I enjoyed tonight’s season premiere. While some of the storylines (and actors) were clearly stronger than others, there was just enough to get my attention and leaving me wanting to indulge more in this, the guiltiest of pleasures.

Some of the names have changed but the address has stayed the same. Fans of the original MELROSE will not only see some familiar faces returning, but parallels of characters that comprised the original series. There’s Ella, played by perhaps the show’s strongest actor, Katie Cassidy (Harper’s Island, Supernatural), who is a hot shot Hollywood agent who doesn’t let anyone or anything stand in her way. The stunning looks and blonde hair aren’t the only similarities between Cassidy’s Ella and Heather Locklear’s Amanda.

PROJECT RUNWAY: Rumble on the Runway

Why is it that every season at least a few of the designers need to be personally escorted back to Kindergarten to learn all over again how to play nice with others?  Geesh. I get it…they’re artist, they’re creative people and they don’t like anyone impeding on their artistry. Get over yourselves. Despite what the producers think, personally all the petty bickering does nothing for me.  For me it’s all about the fashion, oh and Tim Gunn…and tonight Rachel Bilson, but uh, yeah, the fashion.

Tonight’s challenge took the designers out of the studio and on to the beach.  The designers were paired up to create a surf inspired look that infused the beauty and culture of the surfing lifestyle with their own personal point of view as a designers. I can’t say I saw much of the “surf” look on the runway tonight. Most of the designers just went for summer wear. Is it the same? Hmm.  There were a few hits and only a few misses, but the misses missed it big time.

Before we get to the designs, can I please say how annoying the gratuitous Garnier product placement was last night.  Having the stylist on the beach talking about how he was going to give the models the perfect beach hair was ridiculous. Why is it different than any other week when the models go to the Garnier hair salon?! Ease up there, PR producers. I know you’re on Lifetime know and you need the money, but that was cheesy.

All my bah humbugging aside, let’s get to the runway.

Shirin & Carol Hannah

These two looks were my favorite of the runway. I thought the surf-inspired dress was beautiful, but when it cut away to reveal itself as a pseudo cover-up I was floored. Very cool. And while I thought there was a lot of fabric going on in the avant garde look, I still thought it was beautiful.

Althea & Louise

The dress was cute but not necessarily all that exciting. It looked too much like a beach cover-up.  I think it was intentional, but I still didn’t love it.  The avant garde piece was one of the nicer of that style tonight. I didn’t see any cohesiveness between the two looks.

TOP CHEF Review: Thunderbirds

September 3, 2009 by
Filed under #1 featured, Posts by SB, Top Chef

Well, all I can really say about this episode is that you start to really get to know the chefs, and more or less, your suspicions about them are confirmed. Especially given that this was a group challenge, it seemed pretty telling.

But first, the Quickfire! Man, I love potatoes. But still, the thing that stands out here is how much of a douche Mike Isabella is, what with claiming that Jen (who I have been referring to as “Jill” by mistake) won because of “favoritism”. Seriously, Mike? Are you kidding me? She’s been in the top of almost every challenge and she’s clearly very talented, not to even mention the fact that the winner was chosen by someone who doesn’t know any of you, so suck it!

As for the Elimination Challenge, I thought it was interesting how they decided to go about it, and I did think that Jen was awesome as the head chef. I mean, she definitely is not my favorite from a personal standpoint, but homegirl knows what she’s doing and I don’t think anyone can argue with that. I think the producers would LOOOOVE a Brian and Michael showdown at the end, but for me, it’s all about Jen and Kevin (and I will cheer for Kevin the whole way—he’s my official favorite). And I thought it was interesting how splitting up in pairs was Mike’s idea AND the very thing that came back to bite him later. I was impressed with Gail for accurately pointing out that they didn’t require the chefs to do that, that was something they did on their own, AND I agreed that just because something fills a “niche” in the menu, doesn’t give it a pass to be bland.

In the end, I was satisfied with Preeti’s elimination for all the reasons that they said. While I know that Mike’s dish wasn’t good and he’s an ass, he has been stronger along the way than he was tonight. I felt bad for Laurine, in a way—I thought she cracked under the pressure of the questioning, which I actually thought was much, much more intense than we usually see. I don’t know WHAT got into Padma last night, but good LORD! I was all, you go girl! when Preeti brought up the clam chowder in 90 degree heat, and Padma put the smackdown on how their version of clam chowder was better than her version of a pasta salad. Oh snap! Because seriously, the “I’m so much better than these people” attitude was really rubbing me the wrong way.

Tonight’s TV Spotlight…Thursday, September 3, 2009

I’ve gotta say…this week is flying by for me. Bring on the long weekend!

But before all that, we first need to talk about tonight’s TV. It’s a bittersweet night for me. You know I love me some PROJECT RUNWAY, so I’ll be happy to watch that (and write about it since I didn’t get the chance to last week). But at the same time, I’ll be bummed because things aren’t going to go my way on BIG BROTHER tonight. Ugh. Well, at least with my favorite houseguest gone I’m going to be watching BIG BROTHER AFTER DARK and the live feeds a lot less. That will give me more time to watch the shows I should be watching. (Yes, I know…I must get a move on with SUPERNATURAL – more on that later.)

Let’s take a look at just some of the shows that you might be interested in checking out tonight. I know I’ve said it before, but it’s important – letting me know which shows you are watching on a given night (whether they are on this list or not), really helps me to know what shows we should be talking more about here on GMMR. Don’t believe me? In the past year we’ve added coverage for SUPERNATURAL, BONES, TRUE BLOOD and TOP CHEF among others based on YOUR feedback! So bring it.

The networks are mostly airing re-runs tonight in preparation for the Fall season.  But there are a few shows airing original eps.  Then again, the re-runs are always great to…hello “Company Picnic”.

Big Brother 11 | 8pm on CBS
In tonight’s episode, the houseguests will vote to evict either Jeff or Jordan.  The remaining houseguests will then compete in one of the last Head of Household competitions this season. [GMMR: Sending all my luck to you, Jordo!!]

Skins | 9pm on BBCA
“Freddie”
Freddie’s big sister Karen’s reached the final of a TV talent show; Freddie is emotionally blackmailed into upholding the story she and her Dad are spinning about their dead mother

The Real Housewives of Atlanta | 10pm on Bravo
“My Ego is Bigger than Your Ego”
Kim lays down the house rules with the new nanny; a tragic accident halts Kandi’s plans for an engagement party; NeNe directs the ladies in a photo shoot.

Project Runway | 10pm on Lifetime | Season Premiere
“Rumble on the Runway”
The designers will pair up in teams to create a look for what’s being called “their biggest challenge yet.” [GMMR: All I know is that Tim Gunn is wearing a blazer and flip flops on the beach. You had me at Tim Gunn, but you owned me at flip flops.]

Also playing…

  • Repeats of fan favorites such as 30 ROCK, CSI, GREY’S ANATOMY, THE OFFICE, PARKS & RECREATION, SUPERNATURAL and more. So much to watch. And if you haven’t seen it, it’s new to YOU!

On the late night couch…

  • The Late Show with David Letterman: Billy Crystal, John Fogerty
  • The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien: Sandra Bullock, Gina Yashere
  • The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson: Carrie Fisher, Ron Livingston
  • Jimmy Kimmel Live: Kathie Lee Gifford, Milo Ventimiglia, R. Kelly
  • Late Night with Jimmy Fallon: Jason Bateman, Ashlee Simpson, Shadows Fall
  • Chelsea Lately: Eli Roth, Randy Sklar, Jason Sklar, Gary Valentine (R 8/26/09)
  • Last Call with Carson Daly: Army troops at Fort Irwin (R 6/1/09)
  • The Daily Show with Jon Stewart: Pre-empted
  • The Colbert Report: Pre-empted

Which shows will YOU be checking out tonight? Leave a comment here or send me a message via Twitter.
