Tonight’s TV Spotlight…Thursday, October 22, 2009

October 22, 2009 by

Get out your notepads and pencils. Time to take notes on all the things you want to talk about tomorrow from the great line up of TV tonight. Team GMMR will be covering there normal shows (and SB is going to cover THE OFFICE too) but the rest I’m going to be turning over to you as I’m still bed ridden (and pathetically unable to do much of anything right now).  I’d hand over my first born son (Zachary Joshua Lee Jason Neil Patrick Krasinski Jr.) to be able to blog TV these days…I miss it.

As for tonight’s line-up…let’s get to it. And I must say that I’m devastated that there’s not a new VAMPIRE DIARIES or SUPERNATURAL tonight.  Being out of the TV loop I didn’t realize both were in reruns and not I’m completely sad.

Flash Forward | 8pm on ABC
“Gimme Some Truth”
Mark finds himself on the defense during a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing; Janis wonders how her vision will affect her current romantic relationship; Olivia receives an anonymous message. [GMMR: So I’ve caught up on this show.  Dude, what’s all the hype? It feels like a really weak imitation of LOST.  I need to hear from FLASH FORWARD fans…what am I missing here.]

Survivor: Samoa | 8pm on CBS
“This is the Man Test”
Both tribes are forced to be creative in finding ways to weather the elements when a relentless rain storm batters the island.

Community | 8:00pm on NBC
“Football, Feminism and You”
Jeff tries to persuade Troy to join the school’s football team; Shirley teaches the etiquette of girl talk to Britta.

(The rest of Thursday night’s lineup is after the jump)

Parks & Recreation | 8:30pm on NBC
“Kaboom”
Leslie and the rest of the department help an organization build a playground; Leslie takes advice from Mark.

The Office | 9pm on NBC
“The Lover”
Michael shocks Pam and Jim when he reveals the identity of his new girlfriend; Dwight offers Jim a strange peace offering.

Grey’s Anatomy | 9pm on ABC
“I Saw What I Saw”
When a burn victim unexpectedly dies in the E.R., all the Mercy West and Seattle Grace residents must defend their actions in hopes of saving their jobs.

CSI | 9pm on CBS
“19 Down”

When the team discovers a connection between a new murder and a serial killer, Grissom secretly joins the class of a criminal pathologist (Laurence Fishburne) to help crack the case.

30 Rock | 9:30pm on NBC
“Into the Crevasse”
Jack tries to protect his job and the company when Devin returns to seek revenge; Tracy and Jenna try to make Liz’s life miserable; Kenneth volunteers at an animal shelter.

Private Practice | 10pm on ABC
“Pushing the Limits”
Sam, Cooper and Addison treat a homeless teen mother’s child; Violet’s feelings about her attack resurface while counseling a pregnant rape victim; Cooper’s financial issues catch up with him.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta | 10pm on Bravo
“Catwalks and Cat Fights”
As Lisa prepares for a future without Ed’s paycheck, Kandi finally sees a breakthrough between AJ and her mother; Newe butts heads with Gregg, battles with Kandi and fights with Kim.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia | 10pm on FX
“The World Series Defense”
The gang describes the trials and tribulations they went through, during game five of the World Series, in hopes the judge will clear them of all the citations they received.

Project Runway | 10pm on Lifetime
“Around the Word in Two Days”
[GMMR: Once again have no idea what tonight’s episode is all about. It seems that even the show was shot well over a year ago, they don’t publish their episode synopsis anywhere. Sorry.]

On the late night couch…

  • The Jay Leno Show: Hilary Swank, Jerry Jones
  • The Late Show with David Letterman: President Barack Obama (R 9/21/09)
  • The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien: Charlize Theron, stuntman Steven Ho, Dave Matthews Band (R 9/14/09)

Oh mann I didn’t know the Vampire Diaries was a repeat! Well I’ll be watching Flashfoward, which I admit isn’t that good but I’ll keep watching, Greys, P&R, Community, The Office, 30 Rock, Private Practice, and the Mentalist.

Aww, Fringe AND Supernatural, AND Vampire Diaries are repeats tonight? Dang. I was hoping with the Fringe repeat I could watch Supernatural live, but I guess not! Oh, not to worry … I’ll still have my Canuck guilty pleasure, The Border, at 9 pm. And I have some Monday TV to catch up on too.

I watched the first episode of FlashForward, and was amazing. Then came the second, and I half-watched it. Not as amazing. I missed the third, and felt that I’d be too lost to catch up after that. Is it worth getting back into?

I enjoy Flash Forward, but is not must-see television yet. But I think the first season is going to be a mostly self-contained story, and I am interested what the writers have planned.
I will say to Kimber and anyone who’s missed the last two episodes: nothing monumental has happened in the last two eps, and I think you could pretty easily watch the newest episode.

I gave up FlashForward after ep two. It just moved too slow for me.

I really enjoyed P&R and The Office tonight. Just finished catching up on both. It always makes those vball wins that much better to come home to good tv.

And I’m glad I checked here now because I’m pumped that the Tim/Cobie ep of Jimmy is on since it missed it last time. Woo!

Flash Fwd was just about to lose me…. it rambled all over the place after a good pilot , and I was not feeling it at all, but tonight it did semi-redeem itself with some interesting stuff that moved the plot along. Still not a fan for sure. I don’t like seeing “Penny ‘ in the weak and fretting mode as far as her personal life goes. I will have to say that tonight’s closing minutes had the Best. Gunbattle. Ever!.

I’m shocked but fine with the fact that Private Practice is now so much better than Grey’s. A complete turn around from the first season…

Aw you guys are harsh! I JUST watched FlashForward this week online, back to back to back… so maybe that’s why I’m all hyped about it. I haven’t had to do the week wait from episode to episode. So as of now, I think its pretty badass.

Kath, you’re right, it is very LOST-ish… but that’s the point. ABC is scrambling I’m sure to find some plot-driven show a’la LOST to keep those viewers post May ’10.

I dig the heck out of the fact that the point they all flashed too is (obviously) the season finale. Unlike LOST, I like that from the get-go we know where we are, we know where we’re going to be, now we get to spend the next 6 months watching the two senarios merge closer and closer together. Its next season (if there is one) that I’m really curious what they’re going to do. (“I know Kung-Fu, anyone?). I’m def in for the ride.
