Tonight’s TV Spotlight….Wednesday, November 4, 2009
November 4, 2009 by Kath Skerry
It’s Wednesday? How did that happen? This week is flying by. The World Series is still messing with the schedule, so sadly there is no GLEE tonight. Wah wah! But we do have a brand spankin’ new episode of MODERN FAMILY, and I must say, that news alone makes me happy. If you haven’ already, give the show a shot tonight. It’s just so much fun to watch.
TOP CHEF fans may be delighted by tonight’s reunion episode which brings back past winners. Since this is my first season watching I’m not sure if this is a good thing or not. You tell me.
And make sure you set the DVR for late night as FRINGE star Joshua Jackson will be guesting on Jimmy Kimmel. And for all my friends in LA that are heading to the DAWSON’S CREEK event tonight – I am so jealous. Here’s to hoping that Pacey makes it across town in enough time to attend.
Check out some of the shows below and leave a comment to let me know what YOU are watching. Are you on Twitter? Let me know by messaging me @gmmrtv
Hank | 8pm on ABC
“Hanksgiving”
Hank’s mother-in-law (Swoosie Kurtz) visits for their first Thanksgiving in the new home, and Hank is less than thrilled. [GMMR: I was going to make some wise ass remark about ABC not being able to find another Charlie Brown episode to air tonight rather than “Hank”, but then I saw that the fabulous Swoosie Kurtz is guest starring tonight and I just couldn’t do it. I love her. Viva la Pushing Daisies!]
Mercy | 8pm on NBC
“The Last Thing I Said Was”
Veronica takes a cue from her courageous cancer patient and contemplates facing her fear by admitting her affair to her husband; Sonia gets relationship advice from an experienced patient; Chloe plans a reunion with a former boyfriend.
The New Adventures of Old Christine | 8pm on CBS
“The Curious Case of Britney B”
The most popular girl in school asks Ritchie to a dance; Richard and Matthew try to force an elderly tenant out of an apartment they want to rent.
Gary Unmarried | 8:30pm on CBS
“Gary Tries to Do it All”
Gary finds himself in over his head as he tries to balance handling two careers and his kids. [GMMR: I have yet to find one person that watches this show. It does ok in the ratings so it has an audience. Note to self – ask Mom & Dad if they are watching.]
(More of tonight’s lineup after the jump)
The Middle | 8:30pm on ABC
“The Front Door”
Axl accidentally breaks down the front door and Mike insists he fix it; Frankie may be forced to wear a dog suit. [GMMR: Ok fans of THE MIDDLE. I need to hear from you. Talk to me about the show. Are you loving it? Is it worth trying to catch up on?]
Modern Family | 9pm on ABC
“En Garde”
The family comes out to support Manny’s newfound interest, fencing; Phil is determined to find Luke’s hidden talent. [GMMR: There are few people more adorable than little Manny.]
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit | 9pm on NBC
“Users”
When a crime scene photo of a murdered teenage girl quickly becomes an Internet phenomenon, the police initiate an investigation with the victim’s father, who points the detectives toward his daughter’s therapist. [GMMR: Must this show always be such a downer?]
Criminal Minds | 9pm on CBS
“The Eyes Have It”
The team searches for a serial killer who removes his victims’ eyes and keeps them as souvenirs. [GMMR: Well, that’s just wrong. Ever hear of organ donation? How selfish.]
Cougar Town | 9:30pm on ABC
“Don’t Come Around Here No More”
Jules reluctantly accepts a date with an older man just to get out of the house; Grayson makes a bet with Jules that she can’t spend a day by herself. [GMMR: I’ve watched every episode, but I’ll be honest with you…the show is starting to lose me a bit. Courtney Cox-Arquette is so over the top. Must she constantly scream?]
CSI:NY | 10pm on CBS
“It Happened to Me”
When an executive from a software company bleeds to death on a Manhattan street, the CSIs delve into the messy world of “food sploshing” parties to find his killer.
Eastwick | 10pm on ABC
“Red Ants and Black Widows”
Roxie is determined to fulfill Chad’s last wish, if she can figure out what it is; Joanna deals with her lingering questions about the kidnapping ordeal; Kat realizes that Bun’s old friend (Cybill Shepherd) may have the answers she needs. [GMMR: I have almost every EASTWICK episode saved on my DVR but I haven’t watched since the second episode. I kind of want to watch but the fact that I haven’t should tell me something. Right? Need help.]
Top Chef All Stars Dinner | 10pm on Bravo
Fan-favorite series contestants from past seasons return to dish out culinary fare and dish on memorable moments in a full-course event hosted by Season 5 chef Fabio Viviani. The cooks include Tiffani Faison, Harold Dieterle, Marcel Vigneron, Ilan Hall, Dale Levitski, Casey Thompson, Hung Huynh, Richard Blais, Lisa Fernandes, Carla Hall and Stefan Richter.
30 for 30 | 10pm on ESPN2
“Without Bias”
Filmmaker Kirk Fraser uses interviews with teammates, family and friends of Len Bias in an effort to determine what happened on the night Bias died. [GMMR: I don’t know if any of you have been watching this ’30 for 30′ series, but each episode has been incredible. Looking forward to tonight’s episode as it was such a big moment in Boston sports.]

Tonight is comedy night. I will miss Glee though. I will be watching Christine, the Middle, Modern Family, and Cougar Town. Modern Family is my favorite new show, and I can’t wait. Cougar Town is the weakest of those comedies to me, but it has had some good moments so I will continue to give it a chance.
The big surprise for me this season was the Middle. The reviews seemed to be mixed and with you and Ducky not really into it, I didn’t expect much. It really won me over. More of a broad comedy than Modern Family, but I enjoy the characters, especially little Brick. You should catch up and give it a chance. Even though some of the situations are ridiculous, it is fun and I can really relate to the frazzled mom and her love for her crazy kids.
I agree, The Middle grew on my quickly too. I find myself giggling out loud a lot more than I thought I would when I started watching it. Sad there’s no new Glee tonight. That is by far my favorite new show of the season!
I will come out as a fan of GARY UNMARRIED. Seriously, watched every episode and while it’s certainly no MODERN FAMILY, it has a immensely likeable cast.
I will be tuning in to GHOST HUNTERS as it features your pal and mine Eddie McClintock. That’s fun. I’ll also be DVRing Craig Ferguson for the Bones love of Stephen Fry. And I’ll also be trying to decide whether cheering for the Yankees to win tonight (so BONES will be on tomorrow) is considered unpardonable (on account of I really don’t like the Yankees).
Very sad about no new Glee! But baseball will be over soon, right? And will stop messing with my Fox shows?? Here’s hoping. Tonight is Bones for me (got back into it over the weekend, while sick in bed. Haven’t watched in a whole season!). I’m also excited that I’ll be home to watch Criminal Minds … but ewww to the keeping of eyeballs.
I ditto the TV Addict about Gary Unmarried. My husband and I secretly love it. The premise/jokes should be painfully stereotypical and tired, but somehow the cast is so charming and delivers the lines so well that we end up laughing and watching every week. I would definitely reccomend it!!
