About Last Night…THE AMAZING RACE and BROTHERS & SISTERS

November 16, 2009 by

Trying to squeeze in one last post about Sunday night TV before the Monday prime time shows begin. I wasn’t able to watch last night’s shows until this afternoon, but I didn’t want my two favorites to go by unchecked. So here’s my quick thoughts on last night’s THE AMAZING RACE and BROTHERS & SISTERS.

THE AMAZING RACE
Things are starting to get interesting.  Seems like the gloves are coming off and if I were brothers Sam & Dan I might be just a wee bit nervous.  After an altercation on the race to the mat, Big Easy let the brothers know that now that they’ve brought physicality to the game, they can expect that he will be too.  Big Easy is a big dude (in case you couldn’t figure that out from his moniker) and I wouldn’t want to be on his bad side.  That being said, I think last night’s scuffle and exchange of un-pleasantries might have just been spirited game talk. I still love my Globetrotters.

I thought last night’s challenges were kind of fun.  The mud volleyball was great, but I couldn’t begin to imagine how tough that must have been. I continue to be very impressed with Meghan and Cheyne.  And who would have thought that Miss America and her husband would have made it this far.  Kudos to them.  Sadly we had to say goodbye to Matt and Gary last night.  They were a great duo. And not to get too sentimental, but I think that Gary cared more about reconnecting with his son than the million dollar prize.  If so, I have no doubt that Gary got what he wanted.

So going into the final four we’ve got: Sam & Dan, Flight & Big Easy, Ericka & Brian, and Meghan & Cheyne.  Can you believe we are already at the final four? This season has flown by.

Ducky and I talked more about this season of THE AMAZING RACE on our latest TV Talk Podcast. Listen in and let us know what YOU think.

BROTHERS & SISTERS
Since we don’t talk about it that much on GMMR, I’m not sure how many of you are fans of BROTHERS & SISTERS. I was a big fan from the get go, but last season I lost interest with all the drama at Ojai, with Tommy and the search for Ryan. Blech.  But this season the show has made some changes for the better.  The writers realized there is enough drama in basic family dynamics that they don’t need to throw soap opera-esque nonsense into the mix.  As a result we’ve had some really touching storylines and some brilliant acting.

Sadly the writers still have the Nora/Holly feud flare up a bit too much for my liking.  And I wish I could fast forward through all the scenes with Ryan and his attempted sabotage of the Walker family.  But other than that, I’m really liking the show again.

Poor pregnant Rebecca. Justin is being such a goat. I know med school needs all of his attention, but he’s being a bit of an asshat to his wife-to-be (and yes, using the word ‘asshat’ is just one of the reasons why I’ll never be a professional TV critic). I just wanted her to tell him already so he could flip out, consider abusing drugs/alcohol only to be saved at the last minute by his family who come together to support Rebecca and Justin in their time of need. Ok, maybe this show is a wee bit predictable at time (or I could be SO wrong), but as long as there is some hearty drama unfolding, I’m going to go with it.

Special kudos to the writers for bringing back the Robert of old.  I was so over his self-absorbed nastiness.

Anyone else having wine with the Walker’s on Sunday nights?

I’m pretty sure he’s called Big Easy because yes while he is large (like most basketball players are) he is from New Orleans.

I’ve been really liking brothers and sisters. [Edited by GMMR: PLEASE do NOT include spoilers in your comments! I didn’t know of that storyline because I have avoided spoilers.]
