BETTER OFF TED S1 on DVD Contest

On December 1st Fox Home Entertainment released Season 1 of BETTER OFF TED, one the sharpest and funniest comedies of the past few years. ONE lucky GMMR reader will be sent Season 1 on DVD just for entering! If you haven’t yet seen the show, then now is the time to catch up. New episodes of Season 2 premiere next week on ABC.

As head of research and development at Veridian Dynamics, good guy Ted Crisp (Jay Harrington) leads a quirky team of the world’s smartest scientists on a mission to make the impossible possible. From cow-less meat to deadly pumpkins, no project is too bizarre, or too unethical, as long as it’s profitable. Working to appease his beautiful boss (Portia DeRossi), Ted struggles occasionally with his conscience — and his attraction to a comely co-worker (Andrea Anders) — but it’s all in a day’s work when you’re Better Off Ted.

Jaywalking at the JERSEY SHORE

I make it a point not to watch The Jay Leno Show, and because of that I sometimes miss the occasional gem such as this appearance by Mike ‘The Situation’, Snooki and Pauly D from JERSEY SHORE. Whether or not you’ve seen the Jersey Shore you’ll still have a good laugh watching them trying to answer these basic questions.

Tonight’s TV Spotlight…Wednesday, December 30, 2009

Only one more day to write ‘2009’ in our headlines. (Obviously I’m not counting all the times I’ll screw up and write 2009 next week.) Last New Year’s Eve we had some horrible weather in Boston so I stayed in all night and worked on the re-launch of GMMR. Thankfully I’ll be spending this NYE with friends (although the weather is supposed to be pretty bad again). What are YOUR plans for New Year’s Eve (perhaps one of the most overrated nights of the year, no?)

As you probably have been able to tell, GMMR has been on a bit of a hiatus during the holidays. I’m still enjoying spending time with the family in CT and I can’t say that I’ve been watching all the much TV. Not that there’s much to watch anyway. Hello reruns! And tonight’s no different. But if you don’t mind watching reruns there are some really great shows to check out tonight. I thought I might include a few in tonight’s TV Spotlight.

Firefly vs. Freaks and Geeks
In case you missed it, we are trying to decide what will be our first ‘Watch Along with GMMR’ of the New Year. It’s between ‘Firefly’ and ‘Freaks and Geeks’. It seems the Whedonverse is winning out, but you still have time to vote. Which show would YOU rather we watch together and talk about on GMMR? Now, on to some highlights of tonight’s TV schedule.

The Office | 8 – 10pm on NBC
The Office Marathon

“Vitamin D”; “Throwdown”

True Blood | 8-11pm on HBO
True Blood Marathon
HBO’s ‘True Blood’ marathon of episode continues with three fantastic episodes. Watch Sookie, Jason, Bill and Erik (oh Erik) with ‘Burning Love’, ‘The Fourth Man in the Fire’, and ‘Plaisir D’Amour’

Modern Family | 9pm on ABC
“Run for Your Wife”
Jay and Gloria have a disagreement about Manny’s choice of outfit for his first day back at school; Cameron and Mitchell freak out when Lily gets a bump on the head. (First Aired: October 28, 2009) [GMMR: One of the funniest ‘Modern Family’ eps to date, and that’s saying a lot. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched the scene below from tonight’s episode. Each time I cry laughing.]

Watch Along with GMMR…But What?!

I watch a lot of TV. I think you probably all know that by now. Given how many shows I watch there are obvious ones that I have missed. You know, the whole 24 hours in a day thing. Over the past few years I’ve caught up on two series that GMMR readers said are just can’t miss – BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER and SUPERNATURAL. So glad I listened because my TV vocab wouldn’t be the same without these two incredible shows.

2010 starts off strong with a slew of new episodes from returning favorites as well as a launch of brand new series. But maybe, just maybe I have time to fit one new show into my schedule in the early part of the year. But what to watch? I know, I know, THE WIRE. I promise you I do want to take on that series, but I think it might be a little much given what other TV shows are on my plate come January. But I get to it, I promise.

I’ve decided that I’m going to start off the new Year with one of two critic/ fan favorites that somehow I missed when they were first on. It’s going to be either FIREFLY or FREAKS AND GEEKS. I’m going to let you vote and decide, but what I really want to know is who is going to watch along with me? Let me know which one YOU would be interested in watching and having a discussion about in the New Year. Once I know who is in, I’ll set up a viewing calendar. True Blood | 10pm on HBO

Vampires Malcolm, Liam and Diane make a hasty retreat after Bill lays claim to Sookie; Tara seeks respite from her mother’s rage; Jason turns to Lafayette for help.

Sookie Stackhouse, a waitress with telepathic abilities, falls under the spell of a 173-year-old vampire; Sookie’s brother finds himself in hot water.

The Sound of Music | 7pm on ABC

A novitiate leaves her convent and becomes governess to Capt. Von Trapp’s seven children in Austria before World War II. Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer.

Absolutely Fabulous Marathon | 8pm on BBC-A

Follow the drunken exploits of Patsy & Edina during this ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS marathon starting at 8pm and going until 5am Monday morning. If you’ve never see one of Britain’s best comedies then set the DVR…sweetie dahling.

Wedding Crashers | 5:30pm on TBS

Two divorce mediators spend a wild weekend partying with a politician and his eccentric family. Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughn, Christopher Walken, Rachel McAdams, Isla Fisher

Doctor Who | 9pm on BBC-A

The Master (John Simm) is reborn on Christmas Eve, kicking off a battle with the Doctor that spans the ruins of London and the mysterious Immortality Gate. Elsewhere, the Ood issue an ominous warning as a shadow falls across the universe. Wilfred Mott: Bernard Cribbins. Donna Noble: Catherine Tate. Golden Girls | 6pm – 1am on WE

Rose, Blanche, Dorothy & Sophia are at their best in this night long marathon. Watch the WE network for 14 fan favorite episodes. Expect to see Blanche being promiscuous, Rose talking about St. Olaf, Sophia saying something inappropriate and Dorothy rolling her eyes at her roommate.
