Tonight’s TV Spotlight…Wednesday, December 30, 2009

December 30, 2009 by

Only one more day to write ‘2009’ in our headlines. (Obviously I’m not counting all the times I’ll screw up and write 2009 next week.) Last New Year’s Eve we had some horrible weather in Boston so I stayed in all night and worked on the re-launch of GMMR. Thankfully I’ll be spending this NYE with friends (although the weather is supposed to be pretty bad again). What are YOUR plans for New Year’s Eve (perhaps one of the most overrated nights of the year, no?)

As you probably have been able to tell, GMMR has been on a bit of a hiatus during the holidays. I’m still enjoying spending time with the family in CT and I can’t say that I’ve been watching all the much TV. Not that there’s much to watch anyway. Hello reruns! And tonight’s no different. But if you don’t mind watching reruns there are some really great shows to check out tonight. I thought I might include a few in tonight’s TV Spotlight.

Firefly vs. Freaks and Geeks
In case you missed it, we are trying to decide what will be our first ‘Watch Along with GMMR’ of the New Year. It’s between ‘Firefly’ and ‘Freaks and Geeks’. It seems the Whedonverse is winning out, but you still have time to vote. Which show would YOU rather we watch together and talk about on GMMR? Let your voice be heard here: ‘Watch Along with GMMR…But What?’

Now, on to some highlights of tonight’s TV schedule.

The Office | 8 – 10pm on NBC
The Office Marathon
NBC is airing four back-to-back episodes tonight including “Gossip”, “The Lover”, “Double Date” and this year’s hilarious Christmas episode “Secret Santa”. [GMMR: If you liked this year’s holiday episode, be sure to check out the Producer’s Cut here.]

Glee | 8-10pm on Fox
“Vitamin D”; “Throwdown”
“Vitamin D”: The boys compete against the girls in a mash-up showdown; Terri tries to keep an eye on Will by taking a job as the school nurse.
“Throwdown”: To cause dissension among members of the glee club, Sue forces the students to compete against one another; Sue and Will are called into the principal’s office; shocking news is revealed.

True Blood | 8-11pm on HBO
True Blood Marathon
HBO’s ‘True Blood’ marathon of episode continues with three fantastic episodes. Watch Sookie, Jason, Bill and Erik (oh Erik) with ‘Burning Love’, ‘The Fourth Man in the Fire’, and ‘Plaisir D’Amour’

Modern Family | 9pm on ABC
“Run for Your Wife”
Jay and Gloria have a disagreement about Manny’s choice of outfit for his first day back at school; Cameron and Mitchell freak out when Lily gets a bump on the head. (First Aired: October 28, 2009) [GMMR: One of the funniest ‘Modern Family’ eps to date, and that’s saying a lot. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched the scene below from tonight’s episode. Each time I cry laughing.]

Eastwick | 10pm on ABC | New!
“Magic Snow and Creepy Gene”
The ladies agree never to reveal what they did to Jamie; Joanna tries to help Penny find closure; sparks fly between Kat and her new neighbor (Jerry O’Connell), a single father with a dark secret.

The Real World: DC | 10pm on MTV | Season Premiere
This is the true story Seven eight strangers…picked to live in a house…work together and have their lives taped… to find out what happens… when people stop being polite… and start getting real…The Real World. D.C. [GMMR: This is the 23rd season. Gone are the days of Eric, virgin Julie and controversially gay Norman.]

What will YOU be watching?

Since my New Years Eve plans are TV related, I will share. With young kids at home, I typically don’t do much that night. However, this year I couldn’t resist buying tickets for my husband and I to see Joel McHale perform here in Phoenix. His opening act is Donald Glover, who is also on the show Community.

…I watched Eastwick; so bittersweet; I would so have loved to watch where would the show have gone from here; it was fantastic, the Daryl-Roxie hookup; waterman Dan heartbreaking his proposal of marriage to 3 ladies who all said no, and OMG, never saw it coming, Jeryy O’Connel’s kid being evil!!! so sad Eastwick is cancelled…I’m still hopinmg some other network will see the light and pick up this great show, or that maybe ABC will have a change of heart and keep it around…
