Adam Shankman Named Third Judge on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE

September 16, 2009 by
Filed under So You Think You Can Dance, SYTYCD

Finally the news can be shared!  Today Fox announced that Adam Shankman will be joining SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE as the third resident judge this season. The Shankman will be joining Mary Murphy and Nigel Lythgoe at the judges table every week this season.

“SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE is one of the most important things to happen in the last decade for the art form,” said Shankman. “Choreography is how I found my way into this business, and I’m proud to be a part of the show. As a filmmaker, it’s an honor to be able to recognize choreographers and dancers, and to be able to bring all of this amazing work into America’s homes. These kids challenge themselves every week, and it’s great for people to see how terrific these dancers are.”

“I am extremely happy that Adam has agreed to be a resident judge,” said Nigel Lythgoe, Executive Producer/Co-Creator, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE. “We love bantering and bickering, and yet he still finds a way of capturing the sensitivity of every story told on stage. He is a consummate professional with a passion for dance and a discerning eye, which makes him perfect for us. Plus, it must be remembered, it takes a slightly crazy person to work with me and Mary.”

The dancer/choreographer/director has been my favorite guest judge since his first appearance so I’m excited we’ll be seeing more of him this season.  His enthusiasm for dance mixed with his honest assessment and creative criticism brings something very special to SYTYCD.

Talk to me SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE fans! Good news this morning or are you not excited about Adam joining the team in a more permanent way.

UDPATE: This just in from conference call with Nigel Lythgoe.  SYTYCD will NOT have a fourth judge on a weekly basis.  They are reserving the right, however, to bring in a very special guest judge on occasion (think Paula Abdul or J-Lo’esque)

Also…this year’s finale will feature the Top 6 dancers. The top 3 guys and the top 3 girls.

WAREHOUSE 13: Nevermore

September 16, 2009 by

Warehouse 13

Warehouse 13

I swear on the ashes of the first 12 warehouses that I love this show! And as an added bonus, there were no rats in this episode. I really thought there were going to be rats, especially during the pendulum scene. Yuck. Instead, just deliciously creepy Poe words literally jumping right off of the page!

I want to take a moment to discuss one of the biggest complaints about Warehouse 13. Some critics have argued that the writers have plowed through storylines as quickly as Pete plows through a box of Thin Mints, and okay, sure…there have been some rushed storylines, but let’s think about it. Season one was completed and in the can and on the air before anyone knew there was a season two. So, the writers had some stories they wanted to make sure received resolution. That’s why Myka and her father made up, in one episode. So, yes, it did seem kind of convenient, and easy, but, whatever. The writers now have a season two to dig a little deeper into each character. I am pretty excited about that.

Okay! Enough of that, and back to the episode. It starts out with the team hot on McPherson’s trail, and he’s a slippery little devil (with a great accent). He escapes in time to be the title of next week’s season finale, and meanwhile, we’ve got ourselves a bifurcated artifact, and it causes a bifurcated case. On one hand, Myka’s dad (he puts the Bering in Bering and Sons) is reading a book he received, and it’s an original Poe. But as quickly as he opens it, the words begin to crawl over his skin, leaving him in an arrested state. On the other side of the artifact coin is Poe’s pen, an object stolen by disaffected youth “Bobby” at a private school in Oregon. I actually quite liked the way the writer (David Simkins) intertwined the two plots. It felt very seamless to me in this episode. Thoughts from you?

Got Questions for the Cast of CHUCK?

Dan and I are heading over to set of CHUCK tomorrow. We know that Zac will be there, but we aren’t sure who else will be on set (sadly I already know that Ryan McPartlin won’t be there – sigh). Zac’s not going to be in scenes alone so I’m going to call for questions for the whole cast.

What questions do you want us to ask Zac and the cast of CHUCK?

Leave your questions before 12pm PST tomorrow.

Before They Were TiVo’d: Zachary Levi of CHUCK

September 15, 2009 by
Filed under #1 featured, Chuck, Posts by Erik, Zach Levi

I am not a pickle person. Unlike many Americans, who use various cuts of dills and gherkins to accessorize their Labor Day paper plates, my limited taste buds make little room for fermented cucumbers. With the long summer months behind us, and after passing on a host of potentially pickled entrees, I feel comfortable revealing a secret. There is one stop on my takeout rotation that allows me to break my taboo…

Subway.

My sandwich artist must add pickles to my foot long turkey sub before their latest masterpiece is ready for public viewing. Unlike traditional backyard favorites, like burgers or hot dogs, my turkey sandwich relies on pickles for distinctive flavor and a hint of spiciness. The lesson I have learned is that a pickle buried behind a wall of dominant flavors cannot be fully appreciated.

Long before his name became irrevocably linked with Subway, Zachary Levi was an underrated pickle on ABC’s sitcom, “Less Than Perfect.” The program, a thinly written workplace comedy, was launched as a breakthrough vehicle for likable star Sara Rue, known better to most GMMR readers as Stephanie, Leonard’s cohabiting girlfriend from Season 2 of “The Big Bang Theory” and before that Carmen from “Popular”.

The cast and crew of “Less Than Perfect” produced 81 episodes, placing it alongside “According To Jim” and “JAG” as the longest running series that neither myself nor any of my friends have ever watched. The TV gods provided mixed blessings to the Less Than Perfect cast, which also counted Sherri Shepherd and Andy Dick among its ranks. Who would have guessed that this little sitcom would have given life to “Chuck”, “The View”, and “Celebrity Rehab”?

TRUE BLOOD Season Finale: Beyond Here Lies Nothin’

September 15, 2009 by
Filed under #1 featured, Posts by Philboy, True Blood

My apologies to Philboy and TRUE BLOOD fans. With all my traveling yesterday, I wasn’t able to post Philboy’s take on the TRUE BLOOD finale until now. I actually just got around to watching it myself, and WOW! Dan and I will be talking about it on the next podcast. But check out Phil’s take and share your thoughts in the comments below.

I went through the widest array of emotions in this episode. Boredom, happiness, sadness, interest, hilarity, unbridled joy and shock, all in the span of an hour. Let’s go through it and reflect on the season that was.

We open back up our cast of characters to learn that Maryann is starting to plan the wedding where she will offer her vessel, Sam, up to Dionysus and be reunited with him. Sookie, being not human and all, is forced to be the maid of honor. I loved the exchanges between Sookie and Maryann. Sookie had to ride a fine line, since she despised the woman for what she had done to her town, friends and home; but she also needed to find out more about what she IS, and Maryann held that information. As we saw at the end, we still aren’t quite sure, but…we’ll get to that in a bit.

The wedding is, honestly, cut and dried. There’s an effigy, and the ostrich egg, a symbol of purity, to complete it. Bill shows up with Sam and Sookie is all upset. Eggs kills Sam, upon Maryann’s request; Sookie starts to destroy everything, upon Sam’s request. Maryann chases Sookie and meets up with Dionysus, who is really Sam, who kills her. This changes everyone back to the way they were, not knowing why they’re all at some sort of wedding with a “statue of meat.” This, along with the finale, obviously, will be the jumping point for next season.

Well good morning my friends! It’s a lovely day here in sunny Los Angeles. Ok, well that may be a bit of embellishment as the shades are drawn and the hotel room is pitch dark. What? It’s still early out here.
But I’m dragging myself out of bed to give you the quick rundown on a few highlights from tonight’s TV schedule.

Tonight is the finale of BIG BROTHER! I’m going to be indisposed this evening and won’t be able to watch live (uh, it’s killing me) so hopefully I won’t be spoiled (but I know I will). I know many of you are fans of THE BIGGEST LOSER so I’m sure you’re excited that the show is premiering tonight.  I know I’d like it, but it’s up against SYTYCD so there’s no way I’d be able to cover it. Sorry.

It’s down to Kevin, Jordan and Natalie. By the end of the night, one of them will be half a million dollars richer! Who do YOU want to see win the big prize on BIG BROTHER.

Vote now and then tell us why your favorite contestant should win.

Me? I’m Team Jordan all the way, but I wouldn’t mind if Kevin won. I’d like to see Jordan win the $500k, Kevin to win the $50k second-place prize and Jeff to walk away with the $25k favorite houseguest prize. I think it’s going to be a toss up between him and Jordan for that one. You never know, Jordan could walk away a REALLY big winner tonight.
