Tonight’s TV Spotlight…Thursday, January 21, 2010
January 21, 2010 by Kath Skerry
I know you can’t see me right now but I’m doing my happy dance. Complete with the running man. (There’s a reason I will never be on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE…I can’t!) But I also can’t contain my excitement for the Thursday night TV extravaganza we have waiting for us tonight. All my favorite Thursday shows are back with new episodes. It’s almost as if everything is right in the world again.
I suppose I should also make mention of a new show that’s premiering on ABC tonight. It’s called THE DEEP END. TV Talk Podcast listeners know all too well my thoughts on the new show. Bottom line – a fantastic cast wasted on a messy and uninspired script. It was quite disappointing given how excited I was at the idea of Jack & Bobby’s Matt Long and Veronica Mars’ Tina Majorino coming back to my TV on a weekly basis. Not even an appearance from someone from the Twilight cast could pull me in. I’m giving the show one more shot next week. But unless it suddenly rises to the caliber of say, THE WEST WING, I’m going to be swimming to much shallower waters.
As so many of you are fans, I wanted to remind you that tonight is the winter premiere of BURN NOTICE. Be sure to check it out.
Thursday’s can be a bit challenge for TV addicts like me. Check out the highlights from tonight’s lineup and then share how you are going to tackle each show in the comments below.
The Deep End | 8pm on ABC | Series Premiere
“Pilot”
Dylan is given an impossible pro-bono custody case; a 90-year-old man signs an agreement, thinking that Beth is his daughter; Liam tries to get a client to sign with the firm under false pretenses; Addy gets attention when she speaks her mind.

“Bloodlines”

Bones | 8pm on CBS
“The Proof in the Pudding”
Government agents demand that Brennan and her team determine a cause of death for an unidentified and highly classified set of remains; Cam thinks Michelle is keeping a secret from her.
Community | 8:00pm on NBC
“Interpretive Dance”
Jeff is determined to keep his new girlfriend a secret; Britta and Troy have secrets they decide to share with their friends.
(The rest of Thursday night’s lineup is after the jump)

“Leslie’s House”
Following a date with Justin in Indianapolis, Leslie hosts a dinner party at her house to try to impress him.

Private Practice | 10pm on ABC
“Best Laid Plans”
Maya makes an announcement that stuns Sam and Naomi, especially Naomi; Pete challenges Fife (Michael Patrick Thornton) over a patient with a bionic arm. Lynn McDonald: Melissa McCarthy.

The murder of a mayor’s aide is investigated; Rigsby and Van Pelt make an announcement. Mayor Shannon: Sharon Lawrence.
Burn Notice | 10pm on USA | Winter Premiere
“A Dark Road”
A woman hires Michael and Fiona to get her away from some violent con men; a contact goes to extreme lengths to get Michael’s attention. [GMMR: For those of you who can appreciate the awesomeness of a ‘Cagney & Lacey’ reunion, you should check out tonight’s ep with special guest star Tyne Daley.]
Also playing…
- Archer | 10pm on FX: A new field officer makes a splash at ISIS, however Archer and Lana suspect there may be something all too perfect about their new hire.
- Project Runway | 10:00pm on Bravo: [No episode description available.]
- Jersey Shore | 10pm on MTV: No episode description was available but let’s just assume that the Shore kids get drunk, hook-up, and fight. Oh and of course G.T.L.
Which shows will YOU be checking out tonight?

Grey’s Anatomy

Parks & Recreation
The Office
30 Rock
Fringe
Archer
Burn Notice
Thursday will always be the busiest night for me. Good thing I gave up on The Mentalist.
Except that The Office is a clips show. That make me sad. But it does have some new material. And the other comedies (especially P&R, which I’ve really been enjoying) should be good.
And I am looking forward to Burn Notice (although I’ve never seen “Cagney and Lacey”).
God, 10 pm is impossible…don’t forget Project Runway. I also like Burn Notice & the Mentalist. I think PR reruns later so will have to do that. I need Tivo not run of the mill DVR.
Whew! Cannot wait for tonight, especially the return of the CW Thursday lineup. I will definitely be watching Supernatural, and I think I’ll be saving TVD and the NBC comedies for tomorrow (not because I’m not interested, but because tonight is really busy for me and I want to enjoy them instead of rushing through). I think I’ll probably just be watching SPN, and dvr’ing TVD, the entire NBC 8-10 lineup, Fringe and Bones (thank goodness for time-shift options). I’m 2 eps behind on Fringe, so I need to catch up this weekend.
So glad to know that The Deep End is a bust or I would have watched. Now I don’t have to bother.
Oh! Another thing I just remembered – Jason Dohring is guesting on CSI tonight, so I’ll have to dvr that too.
Bones should be great tonight, so hopefully it really is! I had thought about The Deep End, mainly for Billy Zane who holds my heart for reasons I cannot explain, and still may give it a shot at some point. And I will be tuning in to Project Runway, althought so far, no one seems annoying on there yet. Glad to see the show back in BY!
Oh, I mean NY, as in new york. I am dumb! 🙂
I really hate it when I have to work Thursday nights. It’s going to take me all weekend to catch up on tv. Tonight I only get to watch The Mentalist, but I’ll also watch Bones, Fringe, Parks, The Office, and Burn Notice over the next couple of days.
Thanks for The Deep End scoop. The only reason I was going to watch is because they filmed some of it outside my old apartment and because I know someone that is in the 4th (?) I assume I can catch the stuff I want to see online somewhere.
