Andrew Garcia “Straight Up” on AMERICAN IDOL
February 10, 2010 by Kath Skerry
With all the nonsense thrown at us during the AMERICAN IDOL audition episodes, it’s surprising that anyone could be memorable and stand out. But Andrew Garcia did just that. Despite his overwrought and overproduced back story, Andrew gave one hell of an audition when he took on Maroon 5’s “Sunday Morning”. His interpretation and vocal abilities made him an instant favorite of mine. Tonight we saw Andrew for the second time, and I’m thrilled to report that he outdid himself.
Check out Andrew Garcia’s take on “Straight Up” by Paula Abdul. Tell me this guy isn’t going to bring something refreshing to this season! (If only this version were on iTunes.)
If you missed Andrew’s first IDOL audition, check it out here. (Just fast forward through the sob story to get to the good stuff.)
How great is this guy. I’m not interested in spoilers, but I hope to makes the Top 24!

Go boy! Love me some Andrew Garcia, been listening to him on Youtube for over a year. I hope he goes far in this competition, he’s so talented and really deserves it. Lots of love.
He is definitely my favorite of all the ones from last night.
I wish Kara hadn’t compared him to Adam. Why do they have to do that? David Cook did it long before Adam and they are nothing alike. I say they shouldn’t compare anyone to past people on Idol.
Being a Southern Cali girl who lived in his hometown of Moreno Valley for 3 years, I am rooting for Andrew Garcia!!!! Ever since I first heard him on the audition show, I have been hoping he would make it to the Top 24…and beyond! Go Andrew! I loved what he did to Straight Up- gave me a Jason Mraz/Kris Allen vibe.
Such a great performer! What an interesting choice – he really made it work. I haven’t seen many of the contestants yet at this point but I think he has a great talent and will definitely keep an eye on him this season.
I love this guy. A group has been created in Facebook called “Vote Andrew Garcia to be the American Idol of 2010!!”
I would buy that CD today….LOVE IT! Go Andrew!
