Taking a break from the TV talk to share some exciting news! I’m officially a dog owner! Well, officially as in I’ve done the paperwork to make her mine, but my new little pup won’t be here until February 25th. That means we have just a few weeks to come up with a suitable name for the newest member of Team GMMR.
Many of my Twitter friends have suggested that I name her something with a little nod to my love for TV. I like the idea but it needs to be the right name. She’s a little girl maltipoo so a name like Pacey or Jack Bauer just won’t suit her. But I’m open to suggestions. If you’ve got a TV-inspired name for my new puppy be sure to pass it along. (I’ll take non-TV names too…I need all the help I can get.)
(Just to save you the time, “Pam” is already out of the running.)
I’d love to hear your suggestions. Her name is Sissy right now, but it’s just not the right name for her.
Tonight’s TV Spotlight…Monday, February 8, 2010

So last Monday night was a big bust for me. I didn’t drink enough caffeine to ensure that I would not only watch my Monday night shows but write about them as well. It really threw off my entire week. No joke. I’ve learned my lesson. Tonight I’m throwing down Red Bull until I get my reviews written or my heart explodes, which ever comes first (although personally I prefer the former).
For those of you who did want to talk about last Monday’s episodes, check out our discussion of CHUCK, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, LIFE UNEXPECTED, THE BIG BANG THEORY, GREEK and DAMAGES in the latest TV Talk Podcast.
But now it’s time for tonight’s FULL lineup. Here are just a few of the highlights.
CAUTION: Tonight’s TV lineup is for real TV pros only. Don’t even attempt it if you don’t know what you’re doing.
How I Met Your Mother | 8pm on CBS
“Rabbit or Duck”
Lily and Marshall forget to fix Ted up on a blind date for Valentine’s Day; Robin’s obnoxious colleague invites her to a party at his apartment.[GMMR: Don’t be jealous but yesterday I found out that I’m going to be meeting up with the one and only Barney Stinson! He finally asked me out. He left me a voice message, but really, it’s Barney and I’m not in the position to hate. Our first date will be at McClaren’s on October 12, 2016. Here, you can listen to the message for yourself. Dial 1-877-987-6401]
Chuck | 8pm on NBC
“Chuck vs. the Mask”
Chuck and Hannah unexpectedly become part of agent Shaw’s latest mission; Morgan and Ellie continue their mission to get to the bottom of Chuck’s strange behavior. [GMMR: If I’m not mistaken, this is the last episode of CHUCK before the Olympic break. Savor each moment my friends!]
The Bachelor | 8pm on ABC
“Hometown Visits”
Jake visits the hometowns of the final four contestants; one bachelorette, after making a surprise visit to Jake’s room, makes a shocking revelation that leaves him reeling [GMMR: I haven’t watched this season, but based on the ep descriptions alone it seems like there is more drama than a daytime soap. There is NO way that this guy is going to be married to one of these girls.]
House | 8pm on Fox
“5 to 9”
A day at the hospital, as seen by Cuddy, who must deal with hospital issues and staff disputes while juggling personal issues. [GMMR: I’ve only seen half of this episode, but what I’ve seen looks good. Erik, our resident HOUSE expert has his review ready to go. It will post immediately after the episode airs. I hope you join in on this week’s discussion.]
24 | 9pm on Fox
“Day 8: 10pm-11pm”
Jack goes undercover to retrieve the enriched uranium, and President Taylor’s agenda is called into question as delegates gather at the United Nations.
The Secret Life of the American Teenager | 8pm on ABC Family
“Let’s Try That Again”
Amy seeks advice from Ricky when Jimmy doesn’t call her; Anne attempts to sort out her relationship with George.
One Tree Hill | 8pm on The CW
“My Attendance is Bad but My Intentions are Good”
Brooke and Julian try to find a balance between work and their personal lives; Quinn faces unexpected news; Millicent struggles with temptation.

Who knew that all the Oceanic survivors needed were a few Bud Lights and all there problems would have disappeared. Ok maybe not disappeared, but they might have been drunk enough not to care about a smoke monster out to kill them. The power of booze.

Erik will be back tomorrow with his review of February 8th “House”, but here are his thoughts on last week’s episode.
“Moving the Chains”: Original Air Date: February 1, 2010
Something bizarre happened as I watched this week’s House. It was not a shock on the level of, say, trying to dissect the LOST season premiere. On the other hand, it still felt foreign to someone who appreciates the efforts of Hugh Laurie & company. Within the first 15 minutes of the episode, I was gripped with….boredom.
Quick check to make sure this was legitimate: I was not tired or fatigued as my HDTV pushed through the opening credits. No turkey or Nyquil had entered my system, negating that explanation. Nope, I was simply taxed to sit through this story with any enthusiasm. How did that happen?
After a second viewing, fueled by an inhuman supply of Diet Coke, I have a theory about why “Moving the Chains” felt like an inordinate commercial break. For the first time I can remember, the script seemed to fail the actors onscreen and the home audience.
From a distance, this week’s patient storylines seemed to be easy fodder for dramatic interpretation. The issues of head injuries in amateur athletics and deployment pressures on military families are well documented in our mainstream media. Surely, the talented House creative team could tell their own versions of The Blind Side and Stop/Loss, right?
Oprah, Letterman & Leno – Super Bowl Commercial

Whoa. Didn’t see this one coming.
Late night adversaries, Jay Leno and David Letterman, share a couch with Oprah. Perhaps Dr. Phil would have been a better choice. (Scratch that, Dr. Phil is never a better choice.) Wish Conan was on that couch (sorry, it had to be said).
Just how did this surprising threesome come together?
The spot was shot last Tuesday afternoon, under the strictest of secrecy which involved both Mr. Leno and Ms. Winfrey flying in surreptitiously to New York, and arriving incognito at the theater, while Mr. Letterman was in the midst of taping his show for that night. It also involved Jay wearing a disguise: hooded sweatshirt, glasses and faux mustache. (More at The New York Times)
In case you missed it.

SMALLVILLE: Absolute Justice
February 7, 2010 by Sarah Luoma

What’s up Smallville fans?! Was the Smallville two hour movie everything you expected? Written by Geoff Johns, Absolute Justice really brought an interesting storyline meshing the old JSA with, hopefully, a new one. Talk about superheroes a plenty! Hawkeye, Dr. Fate, The Sandman, Star Girl, The Star Spangle kid and John Jones all made appearances.
I don’t know about you but some of my favorite parts of Absolute Justice was when Clark finds out a little about his fate, his relationship with Lois and the missing Lex. Although the show’s writers didn’t divulge much about Lex, Dr. Fate seemed to do a good job at avoiding the big question. Of course we know that the ultimate villain has to be out there anyways! They also managed to keep Lois and Clark in the same place so to speak. Episode after episode they continued to stall out their relationship, but now there seems to be no going back since Dr. Fate explains to Lois that her savior needs her and she needs him.
Chloe’s long running cold spell seems to be coming to a close. Star Girl was right on by pointing out that Chloe’s watch tower is a little uninviting. And she’s not the only one that thinks Chloe needs a little reality check. John Jones manages to get through to her, explaining that she’s the only family he has and that like Fate she is only going to go crazy if she doesn’t start living again outside of her cyber world. It was great to see her among all the superheroes as well holding her own as a human that they trust. I think the old Chloe is back and could end up tucking away all that resentment she has for Clark
What is BURN NOTICE? – SNL

Uh oh. Hopefully the dedicated fans of BURN NOTICE will find some humor in this skit which asks the question “What is BURN NOTICE?”.
If you think about it, it’s kind of true. It’s a wildly popular show that relatively few people know anything about it. If you’re one of those people, then please note that BURN NOTICE is not a reality show about sunglasses.

Instead of making you sit through that much TV talk at once, we split the podcast into two! Be sure to check out our other podcast, a very special “Two Idiots Talk LOST”

SUPERNATURAL: The Song Remains the Same
February 5, 2010 by Nicole
Filed under #1 featured, Posts by Nicole, Supernatural
I’ll just start by saying that I was one of the people watching last night who full-on loved this episode. Frankly, I was surprised to see that the internet is so torn on it, but that’s why we all have free will right? So that we can choose which episodes of television we love, or something like that? Anyhow, I loved “The Song Remains the Same”. First of all, Cas was back. Even in small amounts, I love it when he’s around and I love it even more when he’s confused about pop culture references. I especially love him when he’s threatening angel’s lives to defend Sam because “he’s my friend”. Can I get an awwwww? Second, any episode that kicks off with “Cherry Pie” is already ahead of the game.
A lot of people have said that nothing really happened in the episode, which is completely valid because, yeah there wasn’t much forward motion in the big story. However, I think that this was done on purpose. I mean, look at the title – the song remains the same. Factor in the discussions between Michael (more on him later) and Dean and Sam and Dean, and I think you get the point. The episode seemed to exist primarily to demonstrate that nothing is going to change the course that these characters are currently on. As much as they like to hold onto the notion that they have free will and can choose their own destinies, all signs point to no so far. And last night we got a big hint as to what might make them say yes to their would-be occupiers. Michael mentioned to Dean that he could save Mary and John. Sam later asked Dean if agreeing meant saving their parents, would he do it, and Dean didn’t give an answer. I could be wrong but this makes me think that this is what the angels will use to get the boys to crack eventually. We know from experience that they like nothing better than giving up their lives to save family members – why should now be any different? Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but that’s where my mind is at right now.
FRINGE: Jacksonville

When I saw last week’s preview, I got all caught up in the excitement of the “Winter Finale”. Winter Finale = big exiting episode with major happenings = good thing!! Right? Not entirely. Not when it means that there is not going to be another new episode until APRIL!!!! Forgive my rant, but I long for the days when shows had just “season finales” and not “fall finales”, “winter finales”, etc. I don’t need to get all geared up multiple times a season. I have this problem with forgetting to breath during critical segments and I end up breathless by the time a commercial break rolls around. (For real.) So one finale per season is quite enough for me, thank you very much. That’s not to say that I didn’t enjoy tonight’s episode – I completely did. I just hate having to have the “momentum deferred” all the way until April Fool’s Day – is that some kind of a sick joke?
Glimmer Man
MANHATAN [sic] — The opening event is what at first appears to be some sort of quantum tectonic event, which causes a building to collapse, killing everyone in it except for one man. He ultimately dies, but not before he answers a few questions for Walter, including “which buildings were attacked on 9/11” – the Pentagon and the White House. This information and the fact that the man has his own duplicated head protruding from his chest (not to mention various extraneous limbs), lead Walter to deduce that something far worse than a seismic disaster is afoot. What has actually happened is that a building from the other reality has collided with itself in this reality. Based on the properties of alternate reality item exchange, Walter predicts that a building from this reality will have to get sent to the other reality to counter balance the arrival of this building.
To figure out which building is in danger of vanishing, Walter needs Olivia to return to Jacksonville with him, to the sight where he and William Bell performed experiments on her, or, more accurately, on young “Olive”. Olivia, much to Peter’s dismay, agrees to be Walter’s lab rat once again. This particular experiment, as per the usual, involves an IV infusion of drugs (Cortexiphan, maybe others) and various wires hooked up to the brain. The goal is to get Olivia into a highly emotional state and then pull her back into consciousness. She should then be able to identify otherworldly objects because they will have a “glimmer” to them. That ability will be transported back to NYC where Olivia can take a peak around the city and find a glimmering building which can then be safely evacuated before it goes poof.
