Welcome to World’s End – Miley Cyrus Mentoring on IDOL
March 22, 2010 by Kath Skerry
And the Mayan prophecy predicted it would all be over in 2012. I’m pretty sure there’s a chance the world could come crashing down around us on Tuesday night between 8-10pm EST.
This just in from Fox…
Miley Cyrus will appear as a guest mentor on AMERICAN IDOL and help the Top 11 finalists – Didi Benami, Crystal Bowersox, Lee Dewyze, Andrew Garcia, Casey James, Aaron Kelly, Michael Lynche, Siobhan Magnus, Paige Miles, Katie Stevens and Tim Urban – prepare for their performances on a Billboard No.1 Hits-themed show airing Tuesday, March 23
Why? Why? Why? Has this season of IDOL not sucked enough? What’s next…Justin Bieber? (Oh the horror!)

I just…have…no words.
Except maybe, wouldn’t it have been epic if Lilly Scott were still around? Something tells me she would have made her opinion of Miley Cyrus crystal clear to the masses. Sigh.
This is a horrific development, to be certain. I believe, however, that it could be worse. Bare with me…
What if the Idols had to perform selections from Miley’s extensive catalog? Despite her immense talent, even Crystal Bowersox would find it challenging to inject soul into “Party in the U.S.A.” Imagine the culture clash of hearing Siobhan Magnus’ take on “Life’s What You Make It” on the big stage!
What’s more disturbing is that @Erik know the name of two Miley Cyrus songs. LOL!
As the father of two girls I have to admit, I like Miley! For 3 reasons, She CAN sing, she CAN stay on key and I think she’s cute ( but not in a creepy “hey, I’m 33 and I like to look at teenage girls” kind of way. . . just cute)
I can deny all I want, but my iPod playlists don’t lie, Kath 🙂
Jeez….American Idol. Singlehandedly redefining the word “mentor”. No offense to Miley fans (sorry @Todd!), but it’s one thing to be able to have an appreciation for Miley, and another all together for a hugely popular musical talent show to give her a position of authority. I mean…who is she? What has she accomplished? It would be weird if her dad, Billy Ray, was given mentor status, but it would still make a hell of a lot more sense than her. At least he’s had a career (sort of…right?) for more than two decades in the music business.
How can this show be taken seriously when it pulls stunts like this for ratings, because let’s face it – that is what this move is all about. SOOOOO glad I don’t watch this show.
Wow, I sound super bitter about such a trivial thing. I’ll end with something positive: I came to develop an appreciation for Party in the USA after seeing this tribute video on youtube (note Miley and her mouthbreathing are nowhere to be seen):

Oh please don’t get me wrong, she is no where near mentor status…it’s almost like asking Britney to run a daycare!
Just because she’s young and she’s “Disney” doesn’t mean she can’t sing. Have any of you actually listened to her? Check out “When I Look At You” and tell me she doesn’t have pipes.
Haters suck.
It just seems insane that a 16 year old girl is a mentor to some of the older contestants. How many number 1 songs does Miley even have? I can think of three and that’s it. According to Votefortheworst.com, the theme was going to be teen idols week, but they changed it at the last minute. It makes way more sense to have Miley be a mentor for teen idol week rather then Billboard No.1 Hits. Either way, I’m just happy it’s not an artist that hasn’t been relevant in over 30 years like it usually is.
what can of advice could she have for big mike? this will be so ackward for the contestants. but I hate to admit it but I actually like the climb song. Don’t tell anyone though. shhh!
well…my 4th graders will be really excited, but i’ll watch lost and ask them how it was in the morning…
I thought Miley did a good job – most of her comments made sense. HOWEVER…the judges seem to have already anointed Crystal the winner. She sang a great Janis tune, but didn’t do anything to change it & the others get hammered for not making a song their ‘own’.
