BONES: The Rocker in the Rinse Cycle

April 30, 2010 by

Hey, hey, hey! It’s BONES time! First of all, I want to send a Happy Bonesy Birthday greeting to my sister Elizabeth who loves the show and also to TeamGMMR’s Erik. You can hop on over to his HOUSE post and wish him a happy birthday, or tweet him some birthday cheer @FreelanceErik.

But enough of that feelgoodery; let’s talk dead bodies!

Or well…just the ONE dead body…

THE CASE:

A skeleton is found in an industrial sized hotel washer, and Booth and Brennan are called to the case. Booth immediately asserts that the only way for the body to have gotten into that washer was for it to have been dumped down a laundry chute, to which Brennan infers homicide. Cam, Hodgins, Vasiri and Angela work to identify the victim as Richard Cole, single, commercial real estate developer. Richard went to fantasy camps every year for his birthday. The current fantasy camp at the hotel where his body is found is rock and roll camp. It’s led by uber famous promoter and manager, Simon Graham.

But Graham’s interest in Richard isn’t solely for pleasure; Richard was trying to buy some property that Simon didn’t want him to have.

Other persons of interest include guitar solo ripping Gino and eyebrow pierced Bebe. They are all (including Booth) big fans of Eric Dalton, who’s there putting on a guitar workshop.

The case gets interesting when Hodgins presents Vasiri with a bone fragment that he identifies as from the tusk of a woolly mammoth. Angela realizes that the bone fragment is really part of a guitar pick. Who uses a pick like that? Eric Dalton, of course.

B&B interrogate him and he puts the moves on Brennan only to realize she’s not really interested. But what she IS interested in are the scuff marks on the wall and the blood stains in the carpet. And later, Angela figures out that Richard was murdered with a 57 Les Paul.

When the Gibson shows up on Booth’s radar as trying to be hawked by a girl with a pierced eyebrow, B&B suspects Bebe. But she only stole the guitar.

The murderer was Gino, who would kill to play with Eric Dalton, and did.

THE SQUINTS:

Arastoo Vasiri=squintern of the week. I love that he’s a baseball fan. The baseball analogies wore a little thin, but the Hungry Hungry Hippos dis on Hodgins made up for it. Plus, isn’t Vasiri kind of handsome? Does anyone else think so?

Hodgins: He was great in this episode, a good support. And he found the purple hair; that was clutch (ah, my one free baseball analogy. Sue me).

Cam: Ooh, I like Paul. Elon Gold is a classic ‘that guy’ in TV, and when I saw him, I was like…ah, THAT guy! Did you guys like him? I liked that he was flirty with Cam. And I think “You look beautiful embarrassed” is my new favorite compliment in the world. And remember last week when I said that I was anticipating the Cam/Booth talk about what was going on? Well, good for the BONES writers to have it be a Cam/Brennan convo about it all. Cam’s reaction of genuine happiness for Booth rings true, as does her genuine amusement when Brennan slips and admits she doesn’t like Hacker as much as Booth.

Angela: Her guitar knowledge was fun. And her techno-art stuff was great. I just love when she’s working.

Sweets: I liked Sweets’ ‘follow Booth around’ vibe in this episode, though I’m still slightly confused by the idea that he would be pleasantly surprised that Booth and Brennan are fine with one another dating other people (and that he would bring their relationship bickering back to the case at hand). But mostly, I loved his enthusiasm and the way Booth tried to rein him in. Plus he learned a lesson we can all take to heart; Never mess with Prince. Got it.

BOOTH & BRENNAN:

Social contracts; that’s what the kids are calling it these days, I guess. But seriously…you know, the show breaks my heart in just teeny little ways sometimes, like little paper cuts. For example, Booth’s tie with dolphins on it; yes, Catherine is a marine biologist, so it is clever, but dolphins…I mean, those are Brennan’s thing, right? Her mother’s belt buckle, the figurine from Max. Breaking my heart, Bones writers; breaking my heart. But it’s mended with a Hot Blooded sing-along, and I loved that Booth called it ‘their song’.

I don’t know how I feel about their duet. Not that it wasn’t fun, but B&B have never really been the types to choose fun over catching a murderer. Goofball Booth rubs some people the wrong way, I know. And some people want Booth to rub them any way he wants to, so it’s just personal preference, I guess. Thoughts from you? My personal thoughts are this…I prefer fierce Booth, but he’s really only goofy like that when it’s Brennan related, and in this case, rocking out with his favorite girl to their song, I’ll buy that. He definitely looked very cute.

Since day one, Brennan has been so curious about Booth as this THING to solve, so it doesn’t surprise me that she is just fascinated, near obsessive, about his relationship with Catherine. It all needs to fit into some sort of quantifiable data for her, and each piece Booth reveals is processed in her mind. Booth has been very secretive in the past, ESPECIALLY about his personal life, so that he’s being very open about it now seems to strike Brennan as even more important to know. It’s like she doesn’t want to know, but literally can’t help needing to know all there is to know. That she needs Booth to know how much she values their partnership is also very special. I think she wants to be the kind of woman she thinks Booth wants and needs. Does that make sense?

Hmm…enough from me. What were your thoughts? Do you like Paul? Do you have a fever of 103?

This episode calmed my heart a little. Brennan and Booth trying to find their comfort zones with each other, and finally some emotion from Brennan. She was incredible – and wanting to know all about Catherine makes sense to me – she is trying to think mostly about him, even though it hurts her. She doesn’t know what to do – you can sense she’s in an unsettled, unhappy place. Also an admission that Hacker is just there to keep her occupied – maybe she is just trying to give Booth some space to manuever in?

I reallylike the scene with the B, B and Sweets after the eyebrow piercing girl’s interrogation. The grouper convo was so funny, and the looks that B&B gave each other during and after it were so heartfelt. Booth seems to be trying to figure her out – and wondering where her head/heart is. Like the partnership being important comment at the end – she can’t let her heart free, can she?

    Nice review Seels!

I still can’t figure out what HH is trying to do with the Brennan character as far as her feelings for Booth or Booth’s dating Catherine. Last week she finally accepted that Booth was dating and this week was very intriqued about his relationship. I don’t know if she wants Booth to accept Catherine as his mate in life so he gets what he always wanted or trying to figure out what a relationship is or she’s jealous.

We all know how important their partnership is to Brennan from what she said in the 100th episode and they brought it up again in this episode.

I think these last couple episodes are so disjointed that we’ll have to wait for the season finale to see how they all fit in as far as Brennan’s character is concerned. I realize they want to save what Brennan is feeling for the last couple episode but, ATM, they are just making her seem like a cruel, heartless b..ch.

Overall I thought it was a “fun” episode.

You’re right about Elon Gold. My first reaction was “wait a minute….I’ve seen this guy somewhere!” (and I realized he was on The Mentalist not long ago ><. I liked how they introduced him though (since I read some spoilers and I've been curious about what exactly the writers meant by "weird encounter"…..this was weird alright).

OMG! Now that you've pointed that out..my heart is broken too!! NOT DOLPHINS!!! NO!

I did think Booth was a bit too goofy in this episode….and Brennan too. They usually aren't this "playful" in the middle of a case are they? But who cares….they sang "their song"…that's all I'm asking for ^^.

Thanks for the great review….as always 🙂

    Happy Birthday you guys!!!

Gosh I really want to see these 2 together but I have to say the tension and those brief moments that they connect just makes my heart jump to my throat! I LOVE it! It was a good ep and awesome recap!

Since the 100th episode Brennan is being acting like a person who cannot decide what she wants, either she wants Booth as just a partner or something else. As in this episode Brennan keeps asking Booth bring up his date like married couple when the husband does something bad and wife will keep nagging him about it.

    Nice recap Seeleybaby.

I liked this episode. (Okay, I like EVERY episode!) I really enjoyed seeing Cam meet someone, and seeing emotion from Brennan about Booth and her nearly forgetting that she was dating Hacker!

And yes, Vasiri is TOTALLY HOT! Especially since he ditched the high-pitched Apu-from-the-Simpsons fake accent. He’s got a nice deep voice… rawr!

This was the first episode of the last four where I haven’t been completely sad at the end, so that’s good haha! I did a lot of laughing in this episode, and the “Hot Blooded” scene was spectacular! They both just looked so completely happy… and grounded… and in their comfort zone with each other during that scene. I actually like seeing Booth all goofy sometimes… it makes him a more well-rounded character in my opinion.

I’m still loving the little stuff we’re getting each week with Angela & Hodgins, and the preview for next week has me excited on that front!

Like someone else said… how did I miss that the tie had DOLPHINS on it??? Ugh! That breaks my heart, too, Seels! I probably blocked that out subconciously… 🙂

Although I wish that they would bring Brennan to her senses sooner rather than later, I don’t think that she’s coming across as heartless at all. For Brennan, I think that we’re actually seeing a lot of insecurity & confusion that she’s not trying very hard to hide. Then again, maybe she just can’t hide it as well anymore when it comes to Booth. I’ve still got my fingers crossed for the finale!

I’ve stopped watching Bones. It has been painful to watch since Cam slithered onto Booth in Season 2. Getting rid of Zach in Season 3 seemed to be the death knell……but last weeks episode finished me off for good. I can’t take any more of Hart Hanson’s manipulative garbage. I don’t care if B&B get together anymore. I hope Booth starts a harem, and Brennan will probably want to watch him having sex with the harem as an anthropological experiment. The woman is beyond hope and help. So long “Bones”.

Oh Seels…the dolphin tie broke my heart too. Those little smithereens that were my heart after the end of the 100th keep being rebroken and are now pieces so small you need a magnifying glass to see them. Dolphins are Brennan’s; I don’t care what Catherine’s profession is there should not be dolphins on the tie she gives Booth. It broke my heart even more that it wasn’t a skinny tie like he normally wears…not only did it have dolphins, but it sucked away a little bit of Booth’s originality and rebellion at that moment. And Brennan’s constant questioning of his new relationship was driving me CRAZY. Either she wants him or she doesn’t…and since she can’t change it’s not like she can become the woman she thinks he needs. So the questioning just needs to stop…the only reason it is a good thing is because it shows that she is bothered by Booth and Catherine just the tiniest bit. And the Brennan/Cam convo showcased this well. Kudos to the writers on that one!

You know I normally don’t like goofy Booth, but I can put that aside for him and Brennan singing Hot Booded. OMG look…someone sang (No EitB does NOT count) and no one got shot or blown up! It was so cute he called it their song. Bet him and Catherine don’t have a song. 🙂 Not that I hate Catherine or anything, but we all know who belongs together and it’s not them.

And yes…Vaziri is HOT! You’re not alone in thinking that one…I think he may be my new favorite intern since Wendell fell from grace.

This is the first time I write here, but I have read your recaps and they help me a lot because sometimes you clarify things for me and others you confirm that what I watch and interpret is correct. It’s a kind of feedback that I appreciate.
I have seen the episode twice and there is something that I noticed and I’d like to know if it is my imagination or if it really happened. During the last scene, while Brennan and Booth are talking at the FF, there is a moment when Brennan is talking about Led Zappelin and she puts her hand next to Booth’s but he suddenly moves it back. I think Brennan noticed it and there she realized that things are not going to be the same from now onwards. Did any of you see that too?
Sorry for my English but it’s not my first language.
