Hey CBS, Play Nice with Our Favorite Actors

June 17, 2010 by

So CBS has made some major cast changes in the past couple of days.

Seems CRIMINAL MINDS is losing AJ Cook, we’ll see less of Paget Brewster next season and we’re now hearing that Eddie Cibrian is off CSI: MIAMI — and so, yeah, we’re just kind of wondering what’s going on.

We know both shows are aging, but to lose the aforementioned actors seems harsh.

And the CRIMINAL MINDS crew isn’t taking these developments too well either — both Brewster and Cook have tweeted about their change in status, while cast mate Thomas Gibson has expressed his dismay — and the shock of it all just has us thinking about all the other actors we don’t want to see exiting.

CBS, you have a lot of faces we’re not willing to let you part with. We made a list…

1. The entire cast of THE BIG BANG THEORY. Yes, we know this ensemble is likely quite safe. But, seriously, you should know that you’d have a riot of epic proportions on your hands should you ever decide that Sheldon can do his thing sans Leonard or Raj or Wolowitz or Penny. Jim Parsons is genius and we love him to pieces, but his genius is perfected by the specific chemistry created when all five actors come together. We’re pretty sure you’re aware of this fact, but we needed to say it out loud.

2. NCIS’ Mark Harmon. Gibbs, man! We like everyone on that team, but for us, the heart and soul of the show has always rested on Harmon’s shoulders.

3. CRIMINAL MINDS’ Matthew Gray Gubler. You’ve already hurt CM fans enough this year. MGG is one of the few original cast members left, so let him be, okay?

4. HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER’s Neil Patrick Harris. Obviously, there’s no show without Barney, but just in case you find yourselves forgetting, we’ve jotted a few random thoughts down to refresh your memory.

5. SURVIVOR’s Jeff Probst. Through 20 seasons of the series, he’s pretty much remained the only real constant. We’re kind of attached.

Who else? We know our fellow viewers have others to add to this list, so keep it going in the comments section. And, tell us, are you as bothered as we are by this recent CRIMINAL MINDS and CSI: MIAMI (un)casting news?

The BBT crew all just asked for raises too… interesting.

Can we go ahead and add Criminal Minds’ Thomas Gibson to that list? I confess: I NEED my Hotch! Not to mention I already feel raw from probably losing AJ and, I assume, eventually Paget. Messing with my favorite drama like this is just not okay!

I have an idea of how CBS could save a bunch of money instead of firing good actors, dump Two and a Half Men (I personally don’t know anyone who watches it).

I’d like to second Kyle’s suggestion. Why not dump the stinker Two and a Half Men? You’d get rid of a bunch of highly-paid idiots there (including, but not limited to Charlie Sheen).

I’m a CM viewer, and I love the entire cast, especially the women (AJ, Paget, and Kirsten Vangsness). The fact that Kirsten will now be the “only full time woman” on the show makes me sick. I’m not willing to lose AJ’s character, or cut back on my Paget, so CBS had better fix this mistake. Fast.

Shame on you CBS! In my opinion, Criminal Minds is one of the best long-running prime time series on TV! The only reason that you have such a devoted fan following, is because you were smart enough not to change a thing in the first place! We the people chose to keep you in that position, not the producers! You should be very careful who you offend, they just might be the same people you seen on the way up, and it surely is a long way down! Just a piece of advice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jason Segel! HIMYM can’t lose him.

Apparently, the only two people CBS can’t do without are Charlie Sheen (he could blow up a building and they’d probably give him a raise) and Alex O’Loughlin (3 drama leads in 4 years).

I’m not surprised about what happened to Cibrian. I figured it would happen after they brought Rodriguez back full-time. However, the way the network abruptly cuts ties with these actors doesn’t seem very professional.

Totally agree about HIMYM and BBT! Love them!

I agree with Kyle! Drop two & 1/2 men. Who needs Charlie Sheen. Criminal Minds is the best show on t.v. and A.J. Cook & Paget Brewster are very important to the show.

I’m blaming LeAnn Rimes for the entire episode, but that’s just me 🙂

Criminal Minds will not be the same without AJ and Paget. At this point, you can’t take away or reduce ANY of the characters on this show, the impact would be too drastic. This show is so good because of the awesome cast and how well they work together and help show that the characters are a family.

Both AJ Cook and Paget Brewster are integral members of the Criminal Minds family, and their characters are important members of the BAU team. There is no way that you are going to be able to portray the cases with such passion and empathy without them. Emily and JJ are smart and tough without sacrificing their feminity, funny, sarcastic, and sometimes grumpy without being portrayed as nagging, mean witches. They are not interchangeable.
