THE GATES and SCOUNDRELS have now debuted, so what did you think?

ABC’s new summer fare, THE GATES and SCOUNDRELS, debuted last night to decent ratings, with the former scoring just under 4.65 million viewers and the latter grabbing about 5.17.
The premieres definitely gave the alphabet net a bump up above last year’s numbers at this same time.
But we’re still dying to hear your thoughts on the hours.
Did you watch?
Will you continue to?
Which series did you like better and why?

I watched The Gates. I was hoping it would be a little better – maybe Buffy funny or something like that. Instead it felt kind of like it was trying to be serious. And the ladies at the end felt like we were doing a Desparate Housewives thing. I don’t know. I might check it out again, but mostly out of lack of things to watch over the summer.
I just happened to be channel suring and came across The Gates. When I saw Luke Mably from The Prince and Me movies, I became much more interested in the show. Looks like pretty good summer tv watching to me.
I haven’t watched it yet, but I recorded The Gates, but I won’t be watching Scoundrels.
GATES, yes. SCOUNDRELS, no.
Scoundrals was just a slightly sanitized scene-for-scene remake of the pilot of the New Zealand show “Outrageous Fortune” (which is going into its 6th season). While I enjoyed the original more, this was OK. It was nice seeing some people I missed from other TV shows. Luke’s daughter from “Gilmore Girls” looks a lot like her NZ counterpart, and the same with Carlos Bernard. It was odd watching “True Blood” the same night as the original “Wolf” West is now on that show as a werewolf. It will be interesting to see how this show progresses (i.e. if every episode is just a remake or if they will go off on their own).
The Gates was also somewhat entertaining. I’ll give both shows at least a few more weeks (unless they get cancelled first).
Gates was definitely better than Scoundrels. I’ll hang in with the Gates for a while, I think, but Scoundrels may only have one more shot…
I gave The Gates a try and was half sold on it until the last few minutes of the episode — they got me. I set a series recording. 🙂
